    Green Chilaquiles

If you're looking for authentic Mexican this is not the place. So many good reviews and yet the flavor was totally the opposite. I had the green chilaquiles. The salsa was great! I wish they put more though. The beans tasted canned with Orange cheese. Papas were ok, and sour cream was missing. Eggs were perfectly done but not seasoned. My to go packet salt was double pepper instead of salt and pepper which I'm guessing was a factory mishap. Strawberry horchata tasted like strawberries and water. No horchata taste at all. First the atmosphere, it looks ok, nothing fancy, nothing dirty. The crowd was mostly elderly, and let's say more Americanized. The service- was ok. I walked up to the counter and a lady who said so and so will take your order. No problem, she was busy, and she delegated it to someone else. I don't have a problem with that, I don't need my ego stroked and I respect she knew she was in the middle of getting her order out, so she grabbed someone to help me. The wait- not too long but not too quick either. I went to an outside table to wait. Out comes the owner with an elderly lady who was upset that she didn't get asked how her day was and how her life is. She wanted more attention. The worst thing was the owner was talking crappy about the worker with the customer in front of a new customer. Boo, shame on you and orange cheese on beans is not Mexican.

My friend invited me to a new place. We ordered the Cali Bowl. Rice, beans, veggies, steak. Side of chips and super fresh salsa. I had the peach lemonade tasted very good. The service was excellent and they had buy one entree and get one free. So 2 drinks and two steak bowls was 30!!! The bowl was huge and will have half tomorrow at home. The taste was excellent. The place was clean neat and had beautiful color Mexican tiles. Great service , we got free refill on the salsa and chips.

Chilaquiles was outstanding! Breakfast served all day

If you're local to the area, you would know that this new restaurant replaced Rosarito Grill. It's typically rare, nigh impossible, to be pleasantly surprised when you find out a local spot you used to frequent has been replaced - but Amigas Cafe has proven to be the exception. Now La Habra has no shortage of Mexican food, but good Mexican food is a different story. I was fortunate enough to be served by the owner (and learned that she also runs another establishment in the area). She was pleasant and struck up conversation whilst I looked over the menu and it became very apparent that she cares greatly about the food she serves, noting how she updated the recipes from the prior restaurant. The owner shared more of her personal story and the common theme I saw was resilience. With her experience and dedication to what comes out the kitchen, I expect this cafe to become a new local landmark quite quickly. I've been a handful of times now having had the Chilaquiles and the Breakfast burrito, both of which were delicious! I'll be coming by more in the future - can't wait to try the other dishes.

Mothers Day Brunch was delicious & so fresh. Many options to choose from. My daughters & I were in food heaven! Loved the live music as well. And your servers were so sweet & attentive.

Our new local favorite! My wife just discovered Amigas and we have been coming often. I've been exploring the menu and everything is delicious! The chile verde, in all of the various delivery systems, is fantastic. Try everything! It is all wonderful!

My daughter and I were looking for a place to have breakfast- we stumbled across this place- it's right at the corner of First and Whittier Blvd in Whittier. In the shopping center. We walked in and immediately greeted by a waiter- he was very kind and welcoming. I ordered cafe de olla which was very delicious- my daughter ordered chorizo and egg and I had chilequilles with eggs over easy- it was delicious- we asked the waiter how long they've been open and he mentioned a few months however it is the same owner from the green chile in La Habra- however the food will be a bit different- more of the El Paso flavor. I liked that the place was clean- loved the decor and my daughter and I spent quality time a delicious breakfast and the price was average.

New restaurant in the area, so I went to go try it out. Had a breakfast special burrito $10. Nice size burrito, heavy after 2 bites, this is a great tasting burrito. I would eat here again. No, problem. Other people in the restaurant seem to be enjoying their breakfast plates. Also I would highly recommend this. Try the burrito 10 bucks can't go wrong cheaper than McDonald's.

Stopped in for dinner on what I think was one of their first days open. Parking was plentiful and convenient. We were greeted and welcomed in immediately. We were hungry, so everything sounded good. Our server was so helpful when it came to offering suggestions or answering any questions we had about the menu. We kinda ordered a little bit of everything and were really happy with every item we ordered. The Rajas were incredible, and it will probably end up being one of those must have items whenever we come. Their red salsa was amazing too, so much flavor and I loved the chunkiness which was the perfect addition to my shredded roast beef taco. I was really happy with our experience here. I was looking over their breakfast menu and will definitely be back soon!

The idea was to enjoy my coffee while getting organized--paying bills, planning calendar events, and having the opportunity to focus without any distractions from my usual surroundings. In search of the perfect spot, I turned to Yelp, a reliable resource for uncovering hidden gems nearby. Upon stepping into the coffee shop, I was immediately greeted with warm hospitality, setting the tone for a delightful experience. The ambiance of the place was truly captivating--it was bright and welcoming, infused with an aesthetic charm that instantly put me at ease. I couldn't help but be intrigued by the design elements throughout the shop, which added an inviting touch to its overall atmosphere. Before I settled in, I asked the staff if I could snap a few photos to capture the essence of this delightful space. They graciously welcomed my request, and I was shown to my table, which, quite uniquely, was designated by a number--a small detail that I found charming. As I browsed the menu, I encountered a small conundrum: I wasn't entirely sure what to order. I wanted to break the mold and try something out of the ordinary. My curiosity was piqued by their exclusive offering of Café de la Olla--a traditional hot drink that piqued my interest right away. I ultimately settled on a hearty plate that included rice, beans, and enticing potato tostones, accompanied by two beautifully cooked sunny-side-up eggs. As I waited for my order, I noticed the café was filled with the sweet sounds of old-school music from the '60s and '70s, which only enhanced the cozy ambiance while I sipped my drink. Now, let's talk about the food! I must say, I rated the café itself a solid 4 out of 5 for its overall charm, while the rice earned a respectable 4 out of 5. The beans were rich in flavor and received a fair 3.9 out of 5. The potato tostones, delicately bathed in a savory red sauce, stood out with an impressive score of 4.3 out of 5--these are a must-try if you visit! And as for the sunny-side-up eggs, they were good, but hey, eggs are eggs, right? Overall, the entire experience was quite enjoyable, from the delightful food to the warm atmosphere. A special shout-out goes to Ana, whose exceptional customer service made my visit even more memorable. The combination of fantastic service, inviting aesthetics, and satisfying food truly made for a perfect morning retreat. I can't recommend this spot enough for anyone looking for a relaxing place to unwind and focus on what matters.

Bizzare and not cool because when we arrived, we realized this and still decided to stay. So. Thats on us. Would not return. This place is cute inside and I could tell it wants to be trendy and cute. Even though the restaurant is small and busy, we were seated right away, which was a great start. Our waiter Washington, was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and made our whole experience even better. The atmosphere was perfect too. They had music playing at just the right volume and a big TV showing the live Dodger game, which the kids loved. We started with chips and salsa. The salsa had the perfect level of spice for everyone at the table. The kids ordered horchatas and were excited about the unlimited refills (something you don't always see at other restaurants!). The drinks for the adults were just as impressive. My wife's watermelon margarita on the rocks was perfectly made. It was not overly sweet or syrupy like at some places. Our friends had the "El Jefe" margaritas, and they definitely didn't skimp on the tequila! For dinner, everything was a hit. The kids loved their meals. Albóndigas soup, shrimp tacos, and street tacos--all served with rice and beans. The adult dishes were just as good. The carne asada arrachera was cooked perfectly, the chile verde was full of flavor, and my chicken mole was delicious with a great balance of spicy and sweet without being overwhelming. The portions were very generous, and everything came with rice, beans, and both corn and flour tortillas. The only small thing I would've preferred differently was the chicken in my mole. I personally would've liked a leg and thigh instead of sliced chicken breast but the dish was still very good overall. What really stood out was the hospitality. At the end of the meal, Washington offered us "holy water"-house tequila shots on the house--and it wasn't cheap tequila either! Then after the bill came, he surprised us again with another round of "holy water". That level of generosity and care really impressed us. We also learned that the restaurant has been there 20+ years and is family-run by him and his siblings, which made the experience feel even more personal. You can tell they have a loyal customer base--one couple even said, "See you tomorrow Washington!" The only feedback we'd offer (coming from a customer service background) is that we noticed a few guests waiting at the entrance without being greeted, and one couple actually left the restaurant. A simple "Welcome, we'll be right with you" would go a long way. That said, it didn't take away from our experience. Overall, amazing food, great service, generous portions, and a welcoming family atmosphere. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu!

I went on a taco run yesterday to try to find the best taco in Whittier…read more Started off the run with a keto taco mixed with asada and al pastor and then a regular tripa taco. Keto taco - toasted/grilled cheese instead of a regular tortilla - needed to be done a little more on one side as the cheese wasn't quite toasty enough to stay in place to slightly resemble the shape of a taco. Bit hard to eat, covered my hands in grease. Asada tastes almost boiled, and this being my 2nd or 3rd time getting the Asada here, it consistently tastes like it was boiled and not grilled. Unsure of meat quality or preparation, but there are no grill marks and it's a bit chewy. Same with the al pastor. Tripa taco was bizarre. Strips of flat skin instead of the usual roundish, cylindrical shape of tripa (intestine). Usually a saltier, fattier meat than asada, which is my preference but the one here was lacking in flavor and the texture threw me off a bit. Tripa can be chewy - unless requested extra done, which is how I normally order it - but there was no saving this tripa. I think it needs to be sliced differently, the cuts made it inedible. Brother shared some of his chorizo taco and it was the better of the bunch. Red chorizo, TJ style, although it was also lacking a teeny bit in flavor... onions and cilantro to the rescue! Still, mediocre. Salsas were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Don't think the tortillas were homemade. Service was fine, cashier takes your order, dude at the counter was chill and had a friendly attitude. Seating was limited. Mostly bar style seating but the majority was in front of a window and it had so much heat trapped from the glass that it was kind of uncomfortable. Other seats are too close to the bathroom. Good for a quick bite or just pick-up orders. Wouldn't plan a sit down/dine-in visit. Parking is scarce and has really small spots, wouldn't come if you're driving a pick-up truck or anything like that. Food was reasonably priced, which is good, however; the food was lacking so I would not return.

We ordered all kinds of food and everything we had was good. The restaurant is clean and has a cool vibe, not super Instagramable but not bad. We also got two margaritas they were good and strong! A weekend brunch with friends brought me to Madre's Whittier, where the menu offered plenty of tempting options--and a few unexpected lessons about ordering seafood. I tried the Ensenada Omelet, loaded with shrimp, salmon, crab, and octopus. Now, I'm a seafood lover, but octopus and I aren't exactly close friends. I asked if it could be removed, but since the seafood mix is pre-made, the octopus had already RSVP'd to the party. The omelet was good, topped with a creamy sauce, but not something I'd order again. The crab appeared to be imitation crab, and while everything was prepared well, it just wasn't a standout for me. The real star? The strawberry pancakes. Delicious! Next time, I'd order those with a side of eggs and call it a win. I also sampled the chilaquiles, and now that's a dish I'd come back for. The Tiramisu Latte was another favorite--not overly sweet and packed with that classic tiramisu flavor I love. A special shoutout to our waitress, Annie, who was attentive, friendly, and made our brunch experience even better. My Verdict: Skip the Ensenada Omelet and build your brunch around the stars of the menu instead. The strawberry pancakes are the must-order item, the chilaquiles are a strong savory choice, and the Tiramisu Latte ties everything together. If you order wisely, Madre's delivers a brunch worth coming back for.
