Amigo delivers when it comes to flavor the food is satisfying and definitely hits the spot if you're craving Mexican cuisine. The taste leans toward authentic, and portions are filling. That said, the quality of ingredients feels more on the budget side (e.g., standard cuts of meat and frozen seafood), which shows in certain dishes. Where the experience falls short is service and overall hospitality. Upon entering, there's no clear greeting or direction guests are left unsure whether it's seat-yourself or full service. Unfortunately, this lack of engagement continues throughout the visit. The staff comes across as disengaged, and the overall atmosphere can make guests feel more like an inconvenience than a welcome customer. During my visit, I observed at least three separate groups walk in, wait a few minutes without being acknowledged, and then leave. That's revenue literally walking out the door an unfortunate and completely avoidable loss. It's disappointing, because the food has potential. With stronger service and a more welcoming approach, this place could easily elevate the entire experience. Bottom line: If you're purely focused on food and don't mind a hands-off, somewhat confusing service style, Amigo will satisfy your craving. A friend recommended this spot and we were mildly skeptical since my husband is from San Diego and is very selective about Mexican food... and we were a long way from California and Mexico! Amigo's has opened in Napili Plaza. It's a strip mall style shopping center and there's a parking lot there including a few electric vehicle chargers in front of Amigo's. Stopped by late Sunday afternoon. They had football playing on the tvs but weren't too crowded. Our server, Regina, was very friendly and attentive. Food came out quick. I got the cheese enchiladas any my friend got a burger. Burger was stacked high with game, cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato. Burger at a Mexican restaurant wouldn't be my pick but my friend enjoyed it. She even had 1/2 still left for leftovers that she took with her. Enchiladas hit the spot. THEY ARE OPEN IN THE NAPILI PLAZA NOW Yay...loving Amigos now that it has finally opened in Napili Plaza, and boy does the community love it too! It is always full and for good reason. Great service, delicious food, lively decor, and turning into a community hub. Last week it was takeout, this week we decided to stay and have a leisurely Sunday lunch. We luckily got the last seats in the restaurant and bar, and the server was straight over to make sure we had menus then gave us time to decide. Since it was after noon and a Sunday I decided to imbibe with a house Rita, zingy citrus with a hit, it was delicious, ice n salt as it should be ;) I love chiles relleno so I ordered a plate with one relleno and one shrimp soft taco, which comes with rice n beans. The taco fell apart which was a pity. (I wish they used cheese between the tacos to make them stick together and stop them falling apart. A little trick I learned from the the LA mom n pop Friday night street taco vendors). However the shrimp was still tender and succulent, as was the relleno, with a nice spicy sauce and melt in the mouth cheese filling. Hubbs was feeling that leisurely vibe so he went simple with steak n eggs. The steak was a little over cooked for him but he usually expects his steak to still have a pulse which isn't to everyone's taste. Eggs were over easy, over excellent. We also asked for the spicy salsa with our chips which I used on my meal to pep the heat right up to give me an excuse to quench it with Rita...lol. While we were eating an elderly uncle came in and asked for a plate of rice n beans and a coke, he looked a little down on his luck and Hubbs n I decided we would pay for his meal. However the owner of the restaurant beat us to it and paid for uncles meal and the server was so kind and gave him great customer service. This is what community is about, helping our kupuna and showing kindness!! This reinforces my 2 x 5* rating: through the pandemic and the tragic Lahaina fire our community has come together to look after those who need it and Amigos is embracing this Aloha! read more

Our first time here. We're visiting from California. A waiter at a nearby resort recommended this place. Food was good (especially chile verde). Service - not good. We were seated for at least 5 minutes before being acknowledged and the owner (I think) was about 20' from us, rolling silverware. Took another 5 minutes to get our drinks. Food came out fast. Was craving Mexican Food after way too much Hawaiian food the past 4 days. Being from Southern California, it's hard to find comparable quality in Hawaii, but Amigos in Napili measures up. We shared a chili verde plate for lunch and texted of us barely finished it. Great chile flavor but had a little zing to it. Heat level was almost jalapeno level. Loved the rice as it was not garlicky tasting as some places tend to do. Refried beans with melted cheese on top was on point. Although the salsa looked less dense than what we're used to it still had very good flavor. Service was great and our waitress did a great job handling about 6 tables of by herself! Having negra modelo on tap was a nice bonus. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the pricing is a little high for it not being on a resort property. I miss the Wharf Amigo's so much!! The staff at the new location seem a bit lack luster which is unusual for servers on Maui. The food is okay but the ingredients are not top quality even though we are surrounded by amazing, fresh products here on Maui. Went here for dinner. Really good Mexican food. I was told the carne asada was good so I tried the California burrito. It was delicious. Hubby has the whole fried tilapia plate which was also very good. Could use a little seasoning in my opinion but cooked well. Good homemade salsa and hot fresh chips which to me says a lot about a Mexican restaurant. Also good Margaritas. Will go back for Brunch and happy hour which they have twice daily. read more

Fantastic experience all around. The michelada was absolutely on point--perfectly seasoned, refreshing, and balanced with great spice and citrus. Easily one of the best I've had. The chips and salsa were fresh and flavorful, with crisp chips and salsas that tasted vibrant and house-made. A great start to the meal. The breakfast chilaquiles with al pastor and salsa verde were the standout. The al pastor was tender and well-seasoned, the salsa verde added a bright tangy kick, and the eggs tied everything together beautifully. Hearty, comforting, and full of authentic flavor. Our order was almost $60 for the 2 burritos, we ordered to go and when I asked if we could get a bag of chips with our order we were told we'd be charged for it. It seems a bit ridiculous given that the dine in patrons all receive free chips at their table. Charging $4.00 to add a spoonful of red sauce over a burrito seems predatory, now granted we should've checked the prices but when the person taking our order asked if we wanted our burrito "wet" my husband said yes without being told it's a $4.00 upcharge. Furthermore, it was "burrito Tuesday" which means every burrito was supposed to be $14.00- we were charged full price so we overpaid by at least $12.00. I'm bummed because I was so excited to try this new place, but the high prices, mediocre food and being told we couldn't get the free chips dine in patrons were served left us with a negative impression. read more

Thursday night dinner out with my brother. We thought, why not try Amigo's. Glad we did because I was not disappointed at all. It wasn't busy so we got a booth and sat down and was served immediately. I had the carnitas chimichanga... OMG, can we say ONOLICIOUS!!! I ate the whole thing. This place is wonderful! Very authentic Mexican food with good prices. The food is delicious and the service is great! My husband had a plate of crunchy tacos and rice and beans and he really enjoyed them. I had chicken enchiladas and they were very tasty! The people here are very friendly. My friend and I woggled here after finishing the 2023 Maui Ocean Front half marathon and was looking for alcohol. Wait that was me. We found the Amigo's Mexican restaurant and grill in the Wharf Cinema center, next door to the Pho Huong Nam Vietnamese restaurant we had dinner in the day before. It was perfect morning to sit down after a challenging morning filled with lack of good quality sleep and pushing my body to complete 13.1 miles in Lahaina, most of it on Highway 30. With that said, we woggled in and asked for a table but the NFL playoffs were on at the time, around 11:15am, so we decided to sit at the bar. Our experience here was at most an hour or so, but I got my alcohol (draft Stella) as a reward for completing another half marathon on Maui with this 43 year old body of mine. I also had the Mexican burger, which was pretty good. Quite nice when there's bacon involved in the burger. For the most part though, it was a chill experience that was definitely needed and was delicious at the same time. Indeed, the burger itself was good and was served with French fries. The prices here was up there especially when you're in the tourist town of Lahaina. But still, it was cool and the ambiance was as good as any sports bar, especially with the NFL playoffs being shown on there in restaurant televisions. I liked the Mexican burger and went down great with the beer. Definitely hit the spot after the half marathon that morning for sure. The overall experience here at Amigo's Mexican restaurant in Lahaina Maui was great and definitely was nice, while keeping it casual. The restaurant seemed small, which probably boasted about 10-15 tables, along with the seating at the bar. It was cool to watch the game while enjoying my beer and post race meal. The location was nice, since I just had to walk a couple of blocks from where we parked the rental car in the free parking lot. The restaurant itself was nicely organized and clean. It was NFL Playoff Sunday, so the restaurant and the neighboring restaurants in the Wharf Cinema Center was buzzing with people watching their favorite teams. The service was nice and friendly, of course. I enjoyed the ambiance, although I wasn't sure if there was any centralized air conditioning here, let alone any WiFi connection for its patrons. I also enjoyed the beer, which was their Stella on tap for the day I was there. It was smooth and good, almost like a Kona Longboard beer, just a little bit lighter. And so, if you are on the west side of Maui and enjoy the bar scene, consider coming to the Amigo's Mexican restaurant and bar. It's tucked away in the Wharf Cinema center, but you'll be glad you did. They have a full bar and pretty much anything can be made to order. Definitely recommended during your stay on the west side of Maui. Amigo's Mexican restaurant is located in the Wharf Cinema Center. You'd have to walk in a bit but it's near the Regency Theaters and next to the vietnamese restaurant Pho Huong Nam. It's address is 648 Front Street in beautiful Lahaina, Maui. They accept major credit cards, as well as cash. As far as parking goes, best bet would be to try to find parking in the free parking lot and walk on over. They are usually full up for most of the day, so you'd probably would need to get there early enough to get a space or pay in another adjacent parking lot. There's always residential street parking nearby if you are lucky. If you are like me, the Maui Bus travels to Lahaina town and makes a stop at the Wharf Cinema center. Choose the routes that are best for you. And so, if you are feeling mexican and/or love to drink while you are on Maui, consider coming here to Amigo's for a nice relaxing time. The Mexican burger was great, but I should have told them more jalepeno's especially when having a beer to chill things down. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. 5.0 stars for the location. 4.0 stars for the service, but 3.0 stars for the prices. Terrible experience here from the second we walked in. The workers made eye contact--no "hello", no direction on whether to wait to be seated, sit ourselves.(that should've been our sign to GET OUT IMMEDIATELY) We get seated with menus and after 5 minutes they bring chips (stale af btw), finally order and got the expensive fish tacos ($8 per taco) only to be so disappointed when they brought out tacos looking like a McDonald's fish taco. No silverware to eat our food. I went up to ask and the lady rolled her eyes at me. No napkins. Safe to say--don't go here.
