Food was average but nothing special. Not to mention it was pricey for the quantity and quality of food. Coming from Los Angeles, this was not authentic. I asked for limes to go with my tacos order (which typically are given with street tacos) and was given 1/8 of a lime for 4 tacos and birria plate. Asked for more and was told "I can't give them out for free since it will be taken from my check". So I asked to purchase more. I was charged almost $2 for approximately 5 more sliced wedges of lime. I spend about $70 plus tip and couldn't get a half of a lime which is insane. The response that they can't gives limes or it will be taken from their check is ridiculous. I really hope that's not the case from the owner! After my order, my family of 12 (who were planning to order after me) went to the food court instead. And when asked if they had a QR code to add a Yelp review, I was told to "look at the name on the truck" my receipt says JJs Tacos but the truck says Taco Zone. read more

I stumbled around Wailuku, spotted the food trucks from afar. On my flight, I was told to eat at the trucks instead of restaurants. I found a path beneath the bridge, and first read a menu for an insane ice cream and dessert truck; not what I want. I walked a bit further to discover JJ, read the menu and to my surprise, the jovial man serves Quesabirria! That's all I needed to know. I sat and waited while listening to the top 40 pop music playing at the next truck. A convenient, state of the art plastic and steel bench was comfortable enough to enjoy every cosume soaked bite of my 2 Quesabirria Tacos with a handful of chips. I really wanted to love this place, since it's close to home and easy to get to, in a small food truck park with plenty of shade-covered seating...and I definitely love Mexican food, the spicier the better. Hoping I caught them on an off day but I couldn't finish my order (quesabirria plate with rice and beans plus horchata). The tacos themselves were good, with a generous amount of stewed birria that was rich and tender with plenty of melty cheese, and the fried corn tortilla shells had a nice crunch. The filling seemed a bit bland to me, which the accompanying consommé (leftover stewing liquid, for dipping) didn't seem to enhance; some fresh chopped onions, cilantro, and serrano or jalapeño peppers would have been a huge improvement. The rice was good. My biggest issue was the beans, which were so salty that I barely ate any of them, a huge disappointment since I love beans. The horchata was just right, though. We ordered the nachos, 2 burritos (asada and veggie) and a chicken taco. It was plenty for our family of four. Everyone loved the meal.
