Key West is filled with many unique characters. You'll come across plenty of oddities, laid back bros, and people you may have never seen before (just spend a sunset in Mallory Square). But the one thing you'll find the most is friends. Well, in this case let's call them Amigos (and let's make it an eating establishment, just to be clear). Luckily, most of those aforementioned abstracts stay away from this place because Amigos has its own awesome vibe going on. It's not big, but has enough character through its eclectic Mexican feel to make Amigos feel mucho grande. The best place to sit is at the countertop that faces the corner of Greene and Duval Street. You'll get a perfect glimpse to people-watch all the interestingness that passes up and down this main drag. Oh, and you can eat while you do this too. My coworkers and I, on our recent Key West getaway, dined here almost every morning as Amigos makes some high quality comida. Their menu breaks down between American, Mexican, and Cuban, bringing together tastes that you honestly don't find at enough Spanish spots. I ventured under the Mexican umbrella with a hint of Cuban. My first dish was Migas. This consisted of three scrambled eggs, corn tortillas, sautéed onions, poblano peppers, tomatoes, Colby jack cheese, and cilantro as well as a potato patty on the side and a choice of toast (Cuban bread, because it's amazing). I also went for a side of chorizo potatoes, because why not? I was on vacation. But seriously, Migas, you have mi corazon. This combination of flavors and tastes were nothing short of incredible and if I hadn't turned into a man of curiosity over the last few (edible) years then I would've repeated its delicious wonder. Instead, our second morning here had me going after a favorite dish of mine: huevos rancheros. It's become a staple for breakfast aboard the cruises I take most summers, but Amigos' version was on another level. Three fried corn tortillas topped with fried eggs, black beans, roasted tomatillo salsa, ancho chili sauce, cotija cheese, and topped with avocado and sour cream. No Cuban bread with this one, but it wasn't needed. The flavors melded so well together especially when I cut into the runny egg. I could've died and gone to ranchero heaven (if that's a thing). I did add those chorizo potatoes again, just for kicks, and created round two of a breakfast I won't soon forget. Overall, Amigos is my numero uno place for breakfast in Key West. There are a ton of other spots so it's worth trying as much as you can, but I promise, you won't be disappointed here (apparently the breakfast burrito is also insanely good). And hey, if you're not stopping in for a morning meal, you can always come back later at night to grab a drink and continue to watch the wonders of human activity along Duval Street. I don't understand why people give this place such great reviews. When we arrived, we waited a while before the host came to greet us. Plus, a lack of friendliness from the server. They have some of the best vegetarian tacos I have ever had. The fried avocado taco is too good. The other vegetable tacos also have a wide variety of vegetables other than the usual 2-3 which we get dumped with in other shops for veggie tacos. They even have basmati rice which makes the dishes very flavorful. Things I would change: Their signature sauce was garlic aioli which I couldn't taste as I don't do garlic. We got the beer battered fried avocado tacos which were very well made with plenty of toppings in a Taco to fill you up- 4.5/5 The spicy potato appetizer was average and nothing spectacular - 3/5 Corn on the cob was well made but lacked some kick to it 4/5. The service was average even what seemed to be a slow Saturday evening. Went on a key west tour and stopped by this place for lunch. Got a beef burrito which was actually a really good value. The taste was comparable to a chipotle or Taco Bell burrito (I'm not a burrito connoisseur at all) but it was a decent sized burrito. The value was decent I think I paid $7-8 for it, and the quality of the food was great. I will say that the waitress had a bit of attitude when we asked if we could order now since we were in a rush to make it to our next tour. She responded with "well that's why I'm here" without a smile or joking sense. Maybe she was having a bad day or something, but sure. But we let it slide lol. Starting when we ordered margarita's and receiving them unsolicited in the touristy plastic souvenir cups - handy as they were pretty expensive. We LOVED the square tacos at Amigos! The shrimp, fish, and beef tacos were well seasoned and delicious. I also loved the Strawberry Margarita (although the tequila seemed absent)! The service was friendly and prompt. We were visiting Key West during a cold spell, and I wish Amigos had more indoor seating because it was chilly on the sidewalk patio.
