I love Amir's Falafel! I've lived in Studio City for 17 years, and I've always gone to Amir's when I've had the craving for falafel or Shawarma. Located on the corner of Ventura and Colfax, Amir's has fantastic meat on a spit and Israeli salads. I love their carrot salad, their smoked eggplant, and their tomato and cucumber salad. Meats are well seasoned, juicy, and the portions are generous. Their falafel balls are well seasoned, and their hummus has a texture that I really enjoy -- it's got a tiny bit of grit to it instead of being perfectly smooth. I lived in Israel when I was in college, and I find their food to be very authentic to what I used to eat on Ben Yehuda Street. The parking lot can get a little crowded, but it's free parking, which is a plus. Service is friendly and pretty quick! There are so many great falafel and Shawarma places in the valley...but my heart belongs to Amir's. read more

Service is friendly and your food is ready fast! Love their lamb/beef shawarma and their pita is so fresh. I love getting the plates with your choice of protein and 5 salads. There are lots of yummy things to choose from. I always get the beets, eggplant, carrots, tabouli and either baba ghanoush or hummus. All of them are wonderful. I have been going to this Amir's Falafel L.A for many years now. I was in the mood for some Mediterranean food so I got up and left. Walked in and was greeted by Miguel and placed my order. I wanted to get their Specialty Combo plate that you get to choose what you want. It comes with your choice of meat, Basmati Rice, Pita Bread, and 4 different salads. I wanted to try the Carrot Salad, and by hearing word of mouth that the Carrot Salad was VERY spicy... so after trying it, my tongue was burning. They were right. I went with Shish Kebob, Rice, Hummus, Salad Shirazi, (Israeli salad) Beet Salad & Corn Salad. Also, came with Garlic Sauce, Tahini Sauce, & Hot Sauce. Miguel got my order wrong. I wanted and ordered Shish Kebob & their Chicken Thigh. Instead of getting the Shish Kebob, he gave me lule kebob(long ground beef) I didn't notice it until I opened my plate to cave in to my food. I was so hungry that I didn't even bring it up to his attention. I wasn't going to wait for another 15 minutes to get the right order. Other hiccups: asked for a spoon, he said they didn't have no spoon, wanted to use the restroom, he said it's only for employees; when I had a severe emergency. I wanted to order their baklava, but since mother nature was calling me desperately, I rushed home so fast and barely made it to the bathroom. Thank God, I live 3 minutes away from Amir's. Next time, I will go there with my doctor's letter so they will know how serious I had to use their bathroom. Food was VERY FRESH, DELICIOUS, plenty of portions; for the price being $23.05. Since I have been a customer of Amir's for many years, I am not going to dock couple of stars, because this is a solid 5 star establishment!! Take things seriously Miguel & management. I noticed last night after eating the falafels a coating of greasy oil/wax on my lips and mouth that is still there the next day. The falafel was just ok, but tasted like it was fried in old oil. Within 10 minutes of downing a couple of falafels I experienced severe nausea and GI pain..I see previous posts that complain of them using old oil and or them also not feeling well after. I have not had this issue with Naab's or Mizlala's falafels.. never again. read more

If you're a vegetarian, and you don't have to be, you will love the meat-free options available. Pair them all with rice or one of the soft Pitas. You won't be disappointed. I used to love this place, and it's incredibly unfortunate because prior to March, I had gone and ordered here multiple times without issue. The food is really good (typically order Amir's Special Plate), and the staff is decent, but they seem to have a serious hygiene problem in the kitchen. ​Back in March, I found hair in my food. I called them directly, and they were very polite. They apologized and remade my order. Because I really liked the food, I was hesitant but ultimately willing to give them another chance today. Unfortunately, I found hair in the food a second time. ​I understand mistakes happen, but a repeat of the exact same hygiene issue months apart shows a lack of proper quality control. The food here is absolutely delicious! Service is quick , courteous with a very welcoming ambience. The grape leaves are quite flavorful and filled beautifully. Order a small party tray of grape leaves (dolmas aka dolmeh), one of my favorite Middle Eastern dishes. They have some amazing catering menu options. I wasn't sure if the grape leaves would be vegan and vegetarian friendly as they can traditional be stuffed with a variety of things including meat, but they have a very extensive and detailed menu, especially online, including indicators in the form of green letters for dietary restrictions (gf, v). The grape leaves were a hit, though I was surprised a lot of people there hadn't had them before or were aware of this amazing classic dish. The basmati rice, spices, herbs and marinade were so rich and flavorful that they made for an excellent holiday party intro for a lot of my friends. Ordering earlier the the day before an event, I was also able to indulge in their garlic sauce, pita and a loaded pita sandwich. The falafel pita was wonderful. Stuffed with chopped lettuce, Israeli salad, hummus, pickles, and pickles... I also added turnips of the pickled variety inside... 10 out of 10 for that amazing huge pocket sandwich. I met Amir and his family right about the time they came to live in the Sherman Oaks area in 81 or 82. Their family had two boys, my age at that time, and my best friend lived in the same apartment building. Their first location was in the old Glendale Galleria around 1982. It was great because we would go after school and go to the Sega center in that same section and then also have falafel or Shawarma. Then a few years later, they ended up opening the one in studio city on Ventura. I have not really cared for falafel during the last 30 years and really avoid it. Having said that I was driving down Ventura Boulevard yesterday and decided to stop in Amir's and asked them if it was the same owner, etc. and it was Amir still owns it. So I decide to have the falafel sandwich from my fond memories back in the day. Much to my surprise as I said earlier, I do not really like falafel anymore. I absolutely loved it. It was fabulous. I had it in the.Laffa bread instead of pita pocket. Anyway, I cannot recommend it enough and the falafel is truly different here compared to other locations because they use a decades old family recipe. I will be going back there again. read more

We got one plate with chicken shawarma and the other with lamb/turkey shawarma. Each specialty plate comes with 5 toppings and one pita. The lamb/turkey shawarma was definitely better than the chicken, more flavorful. I liked their babaganoush, their hummus was good. The purple cabbage was also pretty good. I actually didn't like their falafels... I thought they were dry and not impressive. I've had much better falafel. This has been one of my favorite places to eat at for the last 10 years. Recently however the recipes taste slightly different. The hummus is a little more runny than usual and the potato salad seems undercooked and prepared differently.
