Well, to start off, I must admit I drove by this place about 10 times before I finally went in. All those times, I never saw people inside. Which I understand why. I finally went in today and sadly, was not only disappointed, my fantasy of Falafel King was destroyed forever. I know Benito used to work for Falafel King, but this place is nothing like it. The service was horrible. The guy behind the little counter was not nice at all. In fact he was rude. And didn't like if you asked him questions. But that aside, sitting in this little tiny restaurant was not a good feeling. We were the only ones there. They have a seating area outside, I'm guessing for overflow - yet, the table and chairs were right there in the middle of the restaurant. Piled up. They didn't even bother to take it outside. Put all that aside - we get to the food. One of the best things Falafel King has were the "chips", which were battered slices of potatoes that were deep fried. These were slices of potato, they were potato chips. Thin. No "meat" on them, if you know what I mean. And sadly, they were fried either early this morning or last night. Terrible, cold, hard, no taste - not even salt. We move on the falafel - which tasted good. The taste of the falafel itself was good, but the oil dripping down my hand an face was not. I blame that on the oil not being hot enough when he put the falafel into the oil. Next, the actual shwarma is not really shwarma (like you all know it). There was no revolving slab of meat where the fat melts into the meat and makes it so so special. No. This was a little baggy of already cooked meat with no spices on it thrown on the plancha and heated up. Hard and tasteless. Very disappointing. I picked it out of my pita and ate the salad with tehina and spicy eggplant (which WAS tasty). The pita is also a thin hard pita - not the nice fluffy type. I didn't finish my food, and my friend didn't finish the food, as you can see in the pictures. Sorry to give it a 1 - but to say you have ANY connection to "Falafel King" is a disgrace. In the area and looking for a great Falafel sandwich. I found this gem Falafel Queen. Sits on the corner of Pico and Redondo. Parking is street only, good luck. I got lucky and found parking on Redondo. Small dining area. Walked in and noticed nobody there. I was about to walk out when I was greeted by the employee on duty. Asked me if I had ever tried this place. No first time here and I had come for a Falafel sandwich. His eyes lit up and said "vas a probar el falafel sandwich mas chingon." I was like ok lay it on me. As he started to prepare it. I didn't get the gentleman's name he is from Oaxaca and he did make a chingon Falafel sandwich. It's hard to find places that stuff the pita bread with the ingredients. Great falafels cooked just right with all the ingredients stuffed into the pita and topped off with two potato chips. Nice touch. Every time I come here the food is excellent. I usually get felafel sandwich and Greek salad but everything I've had here is great. I've also catered from Felafel Queen, they out together some great trays. You get a lot of food so you can order for fewer people than you're actually feeding. Very nice service too. read more

Little spot at the corner, no frills but has a few tables for dining in. Parking at meter or in the neighborhood on Redondo. You can build your own sandwich. The bread is thin and delicious but won't hold up for a long time so plan to eat the sandwich soon. I haven't tried anything but the chicken kabob sandwich, but plan to try more. read more

I love supporting this neighborhood small business. The food has consistently been very very fresh and good. I'm vegetarian so I can't speak for the meats but my family has tried all their items and love everything. Super crispy and not dry falafels. And all the sides are so yummy. By far, the best Falafel I have ever had, and I am eating Falafel all my life. The salads are fresh and the place is clean. It served with 2 potato chips, which I didn't care about. I would rather had 5 falafel balls in my pita bread, instead of 4. (most of the places that sell falafel, put 5 or 6 falafel balls in your pita bread) The place is very small, you can easily miss it. The owners decided to closed down and thankfully Benito who worked there as the cook/chef for over 25 years decided to open a his own restaurant and continue the tradition. If you remember the Falafel King spots in Westwood this is one of the cooks that used to work there that owns it. Space is small with a few tables inside and not much outside as it is a corner spot. So this is more of a "grab and go" spot The food, is fresh to order and is tasty. What I ordered was the combo salad which comes with five sides and 4 falafel and a pita bread. Red hot sauce that will put hair on your chest! Although it's a small space the food is fresh and the service right from the owner/chef/cashier can't be beat. Recommend it highly!! Wow so impressed. Like many far Westsiders I grew up on the Falafel King in Westwood Village. Benito worked there for several decades, when it closed down, he soon after brought the vibe to this corner. The falafel is excellent and so was the chicken kabob, rice, hummus and fixings. The side selection is plentiful and fresh. The cucumber salad was such a great accompaniment to the falafel plate. Prices are great, especially for the giant portion. Parking is also plentiful. Pro tip: order the Falafel plate and combo salad to share! You get 5 sides (you pick), 9 falafels, rice, salad and pita (+ hot sauce)! A little bit of everything for under $30! We purchase a chicken and a steak kabobs and our opinions to the food was below our expectations. Having had Mediterranean food from other locations and comparing the flavors, wow no comparison. Had a lamb shawarma which was packed with a lot of meat and vegetables. My husband had the falafel pita which had a lot of falafel and vegetables in it. It was very delicious and filling. Be sure to ask for a fork, because it is so full that you'll need to eat some off your plate. read more

I have finally found the falafel sandwich of my youth, reincarnated and, dare I say, improved at Falafel Queen. The actual falafels taste just like the perfectly fried fritters that Westwood's legendary Falafel King produced and yes they have the chips and pickled turnips too.The pita is thin but not too thin. The fried potatoes are back! Benito (owner) found a hand held gadget to cut the potatoes that is served with the falafel pita pockets . They are thicker than they were back in the falafel king days but still have that trademark crunch that adds that special pizzazz to the already savory, herby and delicious falafels that are served in a bed of fresh veggies and hummus in a pita pocket! Going to Falafel King on Ash Wednesday was a tradition in our home. The king is dead, but long live Falafel Queen. It's much closer to our home and the food is just as good. There isn't much space to dine in so we got our falafels to go. They remain the light, moist falafels that we always enjoyed. FQ was very generous with the side of rice that was surprisingly flavorful-- not just something to fill you up. The battered potato chips tasted like nostalgia. They always set Falafel King apart from other places. I appreciated that the cook kept the food warm for our pick up and hot food kept separate from chilled items. Long may she reign. read more
