I've been wanting to try Sofreh for a while now, especially since I often pass by it on my commute and haven't seen many other Persian spots in the area. I finally had the chance to stop in for a solo early dinner, but unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to my expectations. I ordered the Lule Kabob Combo ($22), which included skewers of minced beef and chicken, rice, veggies, pita, hummus, and a side salad. The highlights of the meal were definitely the salad and the grilled tomato; the pomegranate seeds in the rice were also a nice touch. However, the meats weren't to my taste--the chicken had an odd aftertaste, and while the beef was better, neither really worked for me. Adding the provided sumac and lemon helped, but I wouldn't order the kebabs again. Additionally, the hummus lacked creaminess, and the pita tasted like it was mass-produced rather than fresh. On the positive side, the portion sizes are very generous for the price point, and I left feeling full. I also have to mention that the patio is adorable and very "Instagrammable," so it's a great spot if you're looking for a photo-friendly environment. A quick note for future visitors: they are currently having issues with their card reader and are requesting cash or Zelle. It felt a little unusual to be rung up on a register only to pay via Zelle, but it wasn't a major deal. While I appreciated the atmosphere and value, the food itself just wasn't for me, so I likely won't be returning. read more

Mediterranean food is absolutely incredible, and Sofreh is no exception. The Greek Fries have gyros meat, grilled red onions, feta cheese, crinkle cut Fries, red bell pepper, cilantro, and this 'house sauce' on top that was sweet like thousand pretty good. The quality of the ingredients are very high at this restaraunt, they could have been a bit more generous with the meat on the fries but im not taking that away from the overall flavor bomb that were these fries. Service is at a Window, you get a buzzer for when it's ready, exterior eating area with umbrellas by the sidewalk and on the side of the restaurant. We ended up parking on the street as there is no dedicated parking lot. Give em a try! They have loads of great Mediterranean options here. read more

Then the woman at the front blamed it on me that I don't know how to use Zelle. Yes consider me in the group of haters when people treat you disrespectful especially when they want your money! The location is great except they don't have restrooms for paying customers. The food presentation is also good. It's awesome that they are introducing Mediterranean food to the ELA community, however the taste is not great. Each item feels like it's missing flavor. The rice needs more butter, the tomatoes more time on the grill to soften and the meat was slightly overcooked and so it was dry. I was really looking forward to Sofeh because Persian food is one of my favorites and since we were already in Monterey Park it was an easy drive to their Los Angeles location. The reviews were strong so I went in with high hopes. Parking was the first headache because it's extremely limited around the area and we ended up walking from a few houses away after circling for a while. When we arrived, we realized it's all outdoor seating with no indoor option and on a warm sunny day that definitely made things uncomfortable. We approached the lady at the window to figure out how to order since there were no clear signs and the setup was a bit confusing. She wasn't outright rude but she wasn't friendly either, and that lack of warmth made the first impression feel cold. We ordered the lamb chops, chicken, and beef mix plate which came out to around sixty dollars for two people. The food took about twenty minutes to come out and you could tell it was freshly grilled by the smell, which I appreciated. When the food arrived it looked great and the portions were fair. The lamb chops were juicy and flavorful, the chicken was tender, and the beef was average. The rice had good texture and the salad was fine, but the sauces were laughably tiny, barely enough for a few bites. Unfortunately the biggest issue wasn't the food but the bugs. There were flies and bees constantly landing on the table and buzzing around our plates which made it impossible to relax. We tried to enjoy our meal but spent most of the time swatting them away. The fans they had running helped a little but not enough to make a difference. Another major disappointment was the lack of a restroom. For a restaurant serving food that you eat with your hands, that's a serious problem. They had hand sanitizer available but it's not the same as being able to wash your hands properly. Overall I would give Sofeh three out of five stars. The food itself was tasty, especially the lamb chops, but the overall dining experience fell short. Between the bugs, lack of shade, confusing ordering system, and no restroom, it's not somewhere I'd dine in again. If you needed to see if you should support this establishment, just look at the classy response from the owner! What an absolute gentleman! First and foremost this place is only cash or zelle. Secondly it's outdoor seating only. So if it's hot outside, you will have to suffer through it. I ordered the mixed beef and the beef with chicken. I also ordered hummus, which I shouldn't have as it comes with each of the meals. The hummus was good, although it was very garlicky. The rice was weird as they put Barberries on there. This is called zereshk polo. Most places don't sell this as people don't like tart foods. To use it as the main rice dish was a little weird. The worst part was the meat. The luleh (ground beef) was extremely dry and chewy. It was a lean and cheap cut of meat that may or may not have been sitting around as well. I've never had one as dry as that before. The chunk beef (teekeh) almost tasted like taco seasoning. You're not supposed to put cumin and everything else on there. Lastly the chicken was moderately good. It was the only edible thing on our plates. It almost feels like someone may have had recipes while working at a restaurant and try to open up their own restaurant with it. Looks like somebody kind of knew what they were doing, but got lost overall in the mix. The decor shows it too. It's very mishmash and doesn't make a lot of sense. We placed a large order totaling about $190, and when we picked it up, no one told us they had run out of some of the items we ordered. We didn't realize anything was missing until we got home, where it became obvious that our order was incomplete. When we called, the manager, Amy, explained they had run out of the missing items. Had we been informed when we placed the order or even when we picked it up, we could have chosen substitutions or requested a refund before leaving. Instead, we made the trip home only to find out we didn't receive everything we paid for. What made the experience even more disappointing was how the situation was handled. Instead of taking responsibility or trying to make things right, the manager was rude and argumentative. There was a lot of unnecessary back and forth before she finally offered an $8 refund on a nearly $190 order, which didn't come close to making up for the missing food or the inconvenience. We were initially told we would need to drive back to receive it, even though the mistake was entirely on the restaurant's end. After explaining that it was out of the way, Amy said she would simply send the $8 through Zelle. That never happened. They couldn't even follow through on the refund they promised. Mistakes happen, and I understand that restaurants occasionally run out of items. What isn't acceptable is failing to notify customers, providing poor customer service when the issue is brought to your attention, arguing with a customer over a mistake the restaurant made, and then not honoring the resolution you offered. To make matters worse, after all the hassle, the food wasn't even worth it. The portions were skimpy, the food lacked flavor, and the overall experience was far below what we expected for a nearly $190 order. Very disappointing experience. We won't be returning, and I hope management takes customer communication and accountability more seriously so other customers don't have a similar experience. read more
