Excellent meal at Dune. My partner and I got the falafel and hummus plate to share, and somehow left completely full, which already tells you everything you need to know about the portions. But the real headline here: the falafel is moist, y'all. I do not say that lightly. Crispy on the outside, tender and actually flavorful on the inside, no dry crumbs in sight. I walked around a few blocks in every direction and found the usual urban suspects--cafes, $$$$ dining, sketchy corner stores, lackluster hole-in-the-walls, chain food, and a whole lot of gritty LA galore. Nothing really stood out for going solo besides Dune. Service was straightforward. Menu was comprehensive and what you'd want and expect from a Mediterranean establishment. The interior was small but cozy and well decorated--somewhere between boho chic and French bistro. Food was outstanding. I ordered the hummus and steak plate with an herbal iced tea and both brought me back to life. I know Mediterranean dishes usually incorporate fresh herbs but this particular plating was superb. I saw generous pinches of dill and mint marrying everything together. The assortment of hummus, steak, spring greens, dollops of yogurty goodness, basmati, pickled onions and beets plus the flatbread and a lemon wedge was harmoniously flavorful. Their feta alone gets 5-stars itself. Everything else is beyond exceptional as well. Food - got the Grilled Chicken Souvlaki sandwich and Steak Fries. Their portions are fairly large, so I was able to take some home and enjoy it again. As mentioned, their feta is amazing. The souvlaki sandwich was PACKED with a bunch of meat and vegetables, so wasn't able to really eat as a sandwich, but that didn't bother me at all. The grilled chicken was cooked perfectly. Their steak fries were delicious as well! Service - Super friendly, accommodating, and just a dang delight. So respectful and professional. Ambiance - A very cute spot where you order your food first then take a seat in their small and very intimate dining area. I ordered this via Postmates and am so glad I decided to give this a try. The fried chicken plate is so good! And so filling. I love the vibrant colors of all the different items on the plate and how the portion is decent for the price. $20 for the plate was steep at first but I was glad to see how much stuff is included. The fried chicken is perfectly cooked and the hummus is good! The rice and pickled veggies are also a nice touch to finish the dish off. :) I like the flat bread that comes with the order. There's a perfect amount of different flavors of each item on the plate. I've also tried the falafel plate and it was good. I definitely prefer the falafel overall because they were perfectly cooked! Crispy and not dry compared to other places I've tried. The filling is full and the texture wasn't hard. My only complaint to this would be I NEVER get utensils which is frustrating lol. Wow, what a gem. I've only been here twice, but both times the food was executed perfectly, the service was fantastic, and the vibes were great. The falafel was perfect. The good: - The woman at the cashier was friendly - The food comes out fast - There is a water jug at the front with clean cups for easy access - The takeaway is packed really well As for what I liked less, the falafel is just average: it isn't bad, but lacks seasoning. And the tahini on top is not enough to truly enhance the dish. The falafel wrap had good texture but again pretty much the same. While in DTLA, I decided to grab some lunch at Dune. It's been on my to try list since they've been in Atwater, so I'm glad I finally had a chance to try it here. I opted for the meze plate to go. The food was really delicious and I actually really enjoyed it, however, I would've enjoyed it more if the items were in small different dishes. By the time I got home, my to go plate was everywhere and everything was a little mushed. Both the chicken and the falafel in the meze plate was really good. My favorite was their pita bread. As my group made our way to the restaurant we were warned by a friendly pedestrian to keep close to one another and an eye out for our safety as the area can be a bit risky after 5pm. Ladies be sure to be alert when visiting the area. The restaurant is a cute little place. Big emphasis on the little. As soon as you walk in you place your order and pay for your order. Then you are directed to sit if you are dining in. The indoor dining area is super small and is not necessarily friendly towards groups bigger than two. Outside seating may provide more space but not too much more. Food is promptly made once ordered and it's definitely delicious! My group ordered two hummus and grilled chicken plates along with an order of fries and the ROASTED BRISKET GYRO. The plates were very generously served and could easily feed 2 or leave some for leftovers. The chicken and hummus were very flavorful. Came at lunch and got seats at one of the small metal tables in front. It's usually just too crowded inside. There's not a whole lot of room to begin with in there. Looked over the menu and got some of the familiar items. There's what's expected as well as some more expensive things. It's about $16 for a meal. The portions made this not that bad for the price. I got the Hummus And Falafel Plate, a good sampling of the vegetarian items. This came with cabbage, pitas, and a salad. Good service and the food came out fast. It's not like they cooked it half assed though. Falafel was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The rest mixed good together.
