I love this lounge. Don't get me wrong the lounge downstairs is alright and decent however last few times I down seen it all.. so much foolishness and shenanigans I was done!! Upstairs, I had almost an empty lounge to myself. I felt like royalty. Access to delicious bites and drinks. Very comfy seats and clean area. The women's bathroom is so clean it doesn't smell like skunks or look like raccoons occupy the facilities. Very helpful and nice employees do whatever to make your stay enjoyable!! read more

A first-class ticket on Amtrak gets you access to the Metropolitan Lounge, and this was my first time visiting. Pros: * Easy entry, no line, just show your ticket on your phone * Bathrooms were extremely clean * Food station with both hot and cold options (AM and PM offerings) * Bar on site * Helpful staff (the person working the food station was especially friendly and had a great customer service attitude) * Screens with live train times and arrivals * Very spacious with plenty of seating and charging areas Areas for improvement: * My main issue was that almost everything at the food station has to be requested. Nothing is self-serve except for chips, not even drinks. It's inconvenient to have to ask for something as simple as a soda or tea, especially if you're there for a few hours. Overall: This lounge comes close to many airport lounges in terms of quality. I didn't confirm whether they have showers (I don't think they do). Oh my! What a lovely place to wait for your train. After I booked a roomette I found that it came with entrance to the lounge. It was very nice with a lovely decor. On my recent trip I was able to enjoy some of the Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges. This lounge is located upstairs near gates 9/10. There is a good amount of signage leading you in the right direction. The lounge here in Moynihan Hall was great. There is a variety of seating options. There is also seating in the balcony overlooking the stations. I'm sure it can be beautiful at times. The food is great. Both AM & PM food is good. In the AM there was breakfast sandwiches, muffins, avocado toast, fresh fruit, a variety of drinks, some bagged snacks. In the PM lunch there was sandwiches, bagged snacks, fruit , cheese tray and assortment of beverages. I'm sure there is a few things I am missing. One thing I appreciated is offering for a whole or half sandwich. The staff, whether it was front desk, red cap, cafe area, clean up etc, were great. Some engaged, others strictly focused on their task at hand. The gentleman who was my red cap for my train was so helpful. The bathroom is super clean and the stalls are a decent size. There is a breast feeding room as well. This is a great area to spend some passing time. read more

I travel 4-6 times a year for my job, and if given the choice, I will ALWAYS opt for rail transit, just because I find it to be a more calm and dare I say, "civilized" way of moving about the country. TBH, I'm not usually a fancy "lounge" kind of person whether my mode of transit is by rail or airplane. I happened to be travelling with someone who had the specific class of AMTRAK ticket which provided for himself and a guest access to the Metropolitan Lounge at the Moynihan Train Hall in Penn Station. So, let's address the obvious that entering this lounge isn't prohibitively expensive...but it also ain't cheap; the details of which can be found here: https://www.amtrak.com/station-lounges#eligibility Take an escalator (or elevator) to the second floor of the main Moynihan plaza, and staff will scan your ticket, or you can purchase a day pass (depending on availability). If you aren't traveling on a higher class of ticket, individuals can purchase day passes for (as of this review) $50. And what are some of the perks of the Metropolitan Lounge? * Comfortable seating, and charging ports: If you've had to travel in or out of Penn Station, you know it's literally a sea of humanity; which also means finding seating while waiting for your train often means sitting on the floor. At the lounge, there is PLENTY of seating at tables, comfy couches, or on the patio (which is where I sat) overlooking the hustle and bustle of the station. And don't discount being able to charge your devices, since there are also lots of outlets. * Food and drink options galore: There is a display cases, which depending on the time of day, offers either breakfast or lunch/dinner options. I had a 12pm departure, so I was able to sample both a turkey sausage, egg, and cheese bagel as well as a chicken salad on croissant sandwich. Both were delicious. There are also bags of chips, healthy-ish snack bars, fresh fruits, sodas, coffees (both drip and espresso), infused waters, and cold/hot teas. All drinks are unlimited! There is also a bar serving alcohol, but those items are not included and need to are available for purchase. * Clean bathrooms: At least in the men's room, there was a dedicated attendant who ensured the floors and counters were free from debris and water, paper towels stocked, and just maintained a high level of cleaniness. * Business center: If you need to browse the Internet or (gasp) print anything, there is a small nook with a desktop computer and attached printer. * Lockers to store your bags while you wait - always a nice touch. * Service: The staff was constantly coming around to remove dirty plates/cups, and also made announcements before train departures, to ensure you wouldn't miss your train. Only slight detraction is the Wi-Fi was extremely spotty and my VPN dropped connection a few times. I finally wound up using the hotspot on my phone, since that had stronger consistent signal. So again, the question begs, "is the lounge worth either purchasing a day pass or a higher class of AMTRAK ticket?" The answer is the old cliche of, "it depends if it's of value to you, as the consumer/traveler." My response hinges on "how long I had to wait at the station." If I was going to be at Penn for more than 2 hours...then ngl, I might consider it. The Metropolitan Lounge is a quiet and relaxing place to chill while waiting for my train. The included food and drink is just a nice bonus. I mean, just purchasing a sandwhich, chips, and a drink from the food court could EASILY cost you close to $20-$30, so for a few bucks more, the lounge might be worth it. It was fun (for at least the day) to see how the 1% crowd travel, before I descended down the escalators to join the rest of the proletariat class to catch my train back to DC. read more

I've had the pleasure of using the Metropolitan Lounge several times as I travel to DC about 5-6 times a year. The lounge is gorgeous. Tastefully decorated and very large with many different types of seating (see pictures). The food is really good. They have quite a few selections for breakfast: egg sandwiches, pasties, yogurt, fruit, oatmeal. They also have bottled juices and Boylan's sodas. There is a hot coffee bar with two types of La Colombe coffee along with half a dozen flavored syrups. There are free snacks, iced coffee, iced tea with syrups like peach and lavender. There is also fruit infused water. The service is impeccable. Friendly and professional staff who really go out of their way to help. Also, mostly all china/glass and real silverware to reduce plastic waste. There are lockers to put your things but I don't know if they lock. The bathrooms are very clean. The pass is worth it if you have some time to kill. I also accumulate points and can redeem for a pass. One that that is nice is that you can bring a guest. And if you travel with immediate family, you can all get it with one pass. read more

If you're on a coach ticket, your only option to gain admittance to the lounge is to buy a day pass for $50. However, this only entitles you to use the lounge three hours prior to your departure. This is pretty standard for lounges. The big difference is that there is no free alcohol, not even beer or wine. Additionally, and disappointingly, the food offerings are basically grab and go. No hot options. Just a couple average sandwiches, some desserts, overnight oats, various bags of chips, free juices, sodas and coffee/tea. Hardly $50 worth admission. In their defense, the lounge is relatively new, large with plenty of cozy spots to sit. It was virtually dead during the recent blizzard. It's likely more boisterous on an average weekday. Service was also brisk and polite. Just not worth the price of admission. It won't be in anyone's top ten lounge lists. read more

But the best thing is the service. It is like Service in a first class airport lounge unlike the service you get on Amtrak. I am so glad I discovered this lounge within Moynihan station. Yes you have to be of a certain level Amtrak guest in order to come here. I did hear though people can pay 50.00 for a pass to get in. Not sure if this is true or not just what I heard. But if you are a member of the certain level you are allowed to bring a guest in with you. They do not need to pay. This lounge is beautiful with plenty of seating. They have couches, chairs, regular tables and chairs outside on the sort of patio area. There is a section with two couches and a tv that is kind of off to the side near the front of the lounge. Sort of a private area. There are also some lockers towards the front across from the restrooms so you don't have to bring your bags into the bathroom with you, you can just store them in these lockers with no locks though and you do not to pay. The Food and beverage selection here is all complimentary. If you are there in the morning they have breakfast selections like egg sandwiches, bagels, yogurt parfait, oatmeal and some other items. And if you come to the lounge later in day they have some salads and more lunch/ dinner foods. There is a small bar area in the back with some barstool seating I believe. I never had a cocktail here before traveling as I usually take morning trains. There is a small area where there is a computer you can use with a printer I am pretty sure if you needed to print out your tickets, or other business center things. I love coming to this lounge and so glad I found it. read more

Best Amtrak lounge I've ever been in. Rivals some of the better Delta Sky Clubs. Tons of space, modern fixtures, lockers for your luggage, nice bathrooms, several seating areas and business areas. Tons of dining tables. A terrace with tables and seats that overlooks the train terminal. Screens to keep you up to date on your train's progress/arrival times. Nice FREE food options! I had a chicken sandwich/panini of some sort and some hummus with veggies and pita chips. The food counter also has tons of non-alcoholic drink options (I went with the basic sparkling water). The attendant was so personable and fun and helpful. He really was great. A real people person. Alcoholic drinks are for a cost, I had a gin and tonic for 13 bucks I think it was, and that's fine. It was a tall drink, served with great service. Area is clean, bright, and so much more comfortable and relaxing than the terminal itself. Makes me impatient to take my next train trip! read more

This Amtrak lounge is beautiful! Access is up an escalator from the main hall. Facing the Amtrak ticket counter, look/walk left, about halfway into the terminal. The escalator is behind glass doors and there is a small sign. At the top of the escalator your boarding pass will be scanned. Staff here were more like security. Not chatty. Walking to your right, very clean restrooms are on your left and storage cabinets on your right for baggage and coats if you choose. A mother's nursing room is accessible inside the ladies room. Continuing into the main lounge area several comfortable seating areas await. Club seats, wing backs overlooking the street, cafe tables and chairs or long work tables. Whatever your mood. Art deco lamps on tables include charging ports in their base throughout the lounge. Soft carpet under foot is comfortable on travel weary feet. Across the room, on the far wall is a food service area and full service bar. This area is illuminated by an impressive light display installation. Glass fronted cases allow guests to see what foods are available. Our visit in the early afternoon included sandwiches, salad, fruit salad, soft drinks and coffee beverages, all gratis. Alcohol is available for purchase. A business center with printer is available near the bar. We placed our bags by seats on the balcony overlooking the terminal hall. It is louder here than inside, but makes for fantastic people watching. A staff member came out with two glasses of water and asked if we had visited the lounge before. We chatted with her for a bit about amenities and she encouraged us to take a look at available food and drink offerings. Electronic boards all around the lounge make it easy to keep track of your train. Lounge access also provides Pre-boarding. When the announcement is made that your train is ready for boarding, gather your belongings and meet an usher at the top of the escalator. When everyone is assembled follow the usher to the train where you will be directed to your car. This lounge offers a very comfortable, quiet area to wait. Staff in the lounge area are very hospitable. Restrooms are very clean. An excellent Amtrak amenity and the best Amtrak lounge I have had an opportunity to visit so far. read more

Had access to the Metropolitan Lounge in Penn-Moynihan (NYC) about a week ago and I am definitely a fan. The complimentary food offerings were Ok: wraps, sandwiches, chips, etc. I would say on a similar level to an (older) United Red Carpet Club. (United has upped its game as of late.) The service was very good, the staff were fast and efficient: nice job team. The ambiance was great, wide-open, lots of room, clean, bright, WiFi, workspaces, lounge chairs. AML was better than an airport lounge in this regard: they provided a good deal of space and it was not crowded at all. This is a great amenity of you're traveling on the rails. I'm impressed with this private lounge at Penn Station. Didn't know it was included with our private sleeper room accommodation (considered first class Amtrak tickets), until one of the ticket counter person informed me, when i asked a question and showed her my ticket. You have to show your ticket in order to enter the lounge. Breakfast tasted good, which was complimentary as 1st class. One small negative, the USB charging port located at each table did not work. Over the last few months I have been taking a number of trips via Amtrak out of NYC. As a result of all those trips I recently achieved a status level that gave me access to the Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge In Moynihan Train Hall. To enter the lounge you have to go up a set of escalators that are on the 31 street side of the hall. The lounge has a great view as it overlooks the hall which is architecturally stunning. The staff in the lounge are very friendly and the lounge is rather large with lots of seating inside and on a balcony that overlooks the train hall. I have been to the lounge in the morning and late evening. The morning seemed to be very well staffed and there were a lot of free food, drink and snack options. When I went in the evening there were just free snack options with the bar serving wine, beer and alcohol at a cost. The free snacks and drinks include (ice tea, potato chips, popcorn and a variety of other snacks). In the morning you have the option of basic coffee or specialty coffee drinks (I had a latte) and light breakfast item (I had yogurt and granola). There are plenty of areas to charge and work. Overall I would say that the experience was on par with some of the airline lounges that I have had the opportunity to experience. If you have Amtrak status I would definitely say that you should take advantage of the lounge if for nothing less than getting away from the crowd. read more
