Holy wow. I expected Amy's to be good. I didn't expect it to be THAT good. The pastelillos are truly to die for. Perfect crispy exteriors and wonderfully flavorful fillings. And don't miss the homemade passion fruit hot sauce! WOW. It's mostly takeout, though there are some chairs (no tables) lining the sides of the building. Perfectly fine by me, though, since I only live a few blocks away. I have to note, too, that the owner's brother, Alex, was manning the register when I came in, and he was so friendly and personable. Took time to get to know my name, explain a little about the family's history and the restaurant, and said he hoped to see me again soon. Stellar service, stellar people, stellar food. I fear I will become a regular.

Amy's is always such a treat! I always get their vegano bowl which has a hearty amount of rice, plantains, beans, and avocado. It's super filling and tasty. Unfortunately, there is no online ordering so you do have to go in person. It's a small establishment, with little room , so if it's raining and packed you either stand outside or go to your car. If there is anything I would change, it would be the option to either add a sauce to their bowls or purchase a side of say culantro sauce. I love the garlicky sauce on my plantains but whenever I order it's a hit or miss if I get the sauce, depending on who's working the register. I do not mind paying extra for sauce, please provide an option. Absolutely love this place and will continue to support this business.

Food was great, definitely will be back. It took me about a hr drive but it was worth it.

Great spot for lunch, quick service with online ordering. The chicken and beef pastelillos are really solid. Rice is always fire. But the la parchita (passion fruit) hot sauce it's so good, when I go back I'm getting a bottle.

*Cross posted to Google for visibility*…read more Casa Borinqueña is seriously something special. I stopped in and ended up chatting with one of the owners--he was so kind and clearly loves what he does. He walked me through the menu and pointed me to some favorites, which made the whole experience feel really personal. I got the Bori fries and the mofongo cups (one "chicken," one "beef"), and everything was incredible--rich, savory flavors, crispy plantains, perfectly cooked plant-based meats, and that mama sauce tying it all together. When I asked about desserts, he even gave me a cinnabon bun to try, and it was unreal--warm, soft, perfectly sweet. Already planning my next trip back. I can't wait to try more.

We got a ton of stuff to share: the loaded tostones with beef, the Bori fries (yucca) with mushrooms, pinchos, rice with gandules, and pastelillos. Everything was really great, but I think our favorites were the tostones and yucca fries! Great flavors, well-seasoned, really just perfect! It's delicious Puerto Rican food that just happens to be vegan as well. The restaurant is fairly small, and you order at the counter. The person helping us was super nice and helpful in making recommendations. Everything is served in takeout containers even if you eat in, but I don't think that's a big deal. It's casual, in a good way. We also got a bunch of desserts to take home... and that coquito tres leches cake was soooooo good! Highly recommend! I hope Casa Borinquena has a long & successful run in Philly, so make sure you visit!

This was my first visit. I tried the pulled pork rice plate which includes rice, beans and potato…read moresalad. Pulled pork was perfectly seasoned. I loved how moist and juicy the pork was. The potato salad was smooth with some chunks of potatoes and a light crunch from the veggies. My favorite was the beans that pair perfectly with the rice and meat! All this for only $12!!! Wow! I highly recommend it. I also tried their beef empanadas. They were excellent. They're fried to order and homemade. There's a lot of filling and the beef inside is perfectly seasoned. The last time I had empanadas this good was at my Puerto Rican friend's house where his grandma made them! A close second was in Rincon, Puerto Rico. These are that good. They're a must try. This a lovely local neighborhood corner takeout restaurant. You can call ahead to order your food to avoid the the wait. The owner and staff are all very friendly and happy to answer any questions and provide recommendations. They have a tv in the waiting area and some drinks for sale. Inside is very clean and everything looks new and well organized. The food all homemade and delicious. Portions are very generous and a great value for what the charge. I'm looking forward to trying more of their food. I highly recommend it! It's definitely worth a trip to check it out. Support your local restaurants.
