I was in the area and heard and saw so many high compliment videos I had to stop by. Beautifully pink painted spot..It's a small corner shop that is very busy! I was happy and excited to try fare and loved looking at the decor as I waited. They have chairs outside for you to chill and wait for your order because they do fry the pastelillos on the spot! Staff was helpful and you can see they are passionate. I ordered the 2 pastelillos with 1 side. I chose the beef and cheese and the mofongo jawn that has the mofongo and pernil. My side was the pickled yucca. I have to be honest! I loved the sizes and filling of the pastelillos. They do not skimp here on the fillings. The dough is light and perfectly crisp. The Mofongos jawn was a bit dry to me and although the garlic seasoning was good it was just too overpowering. All I tasted was garlic and I love garlic but that was super garlicky. The beef and cheese was good but a bit on the salty side. The yucca was well seasoned and delicious. It was given cold as a salad I was looking for it to be warm, the traditional way. Small place! Colorful place. Best to order ahead for it takes a bit for your order to be ready. They have seats outside the business. Very friendly staff!! Always a really good time when I come here!! Usually a long line It's a small place that sells homemade pastelillos and amazing sides! Every time I've came, the staff is super friendly and sweet. If you're unfamiliar with the concept, a pastelillo is basically the Puerto Rican version of the empanada. So if you like the idea of varied savory fillings in delicious fried dough (in addition to empanadas, think samosa, egg roll, English pasty) then you'll love this. They have both meat and veggie versions everyday, along with specials. I'm an omnivore, but really think the non-meat pastelillos are some of the best (specifically the mushroom and queso). Order them with the hot sauce -- I believe they make it in-house but, either way, it's fantastic. Also don't skip the stewed beans. I didn't order it for quite awhile because it sounded fine... but boring. But the title is a little misleading because it's actually more like a bean stew than stewed beans. Think hearty tomato based stew with loads of beans, sweet potatoes, olives (I know!) and tons of other goodies. It's the perfect thing for a chilly day. Absolutely delicious. read more

Holy wow. I expected Amy's to be good. I didn't expect it to be THAT good. The pastelillos are truly to die for. Perfect crispy exteriors and wonderfully flavorful fillings. And don't miss the homemade passion fruit hot sauce! WOW. It's mostly takeout, though there are some chairs (no tables) lining the sides of the building. Perfectly fine by me, though, since I only live a few blocks away. I have to note, too, that the owner's brother, Alex, was manning the register when I came in, and he was so friendly and personable. Took time to get to know my name, explain a little about the family's history and the restaurant, and said he hoped to see me again soon. Stellar service, stellar people, stellar food. Amy's is always such a treat! I always get their vegano bowl which has a hearty amount of rice, plantains, beans, and avocado. It's super filling and tasty. Unfortunately, there is no online ordering so you do have to go in person. It's a small establishment, with little room , so if it's raining and packed you either stand outside or go to your car. If there is anything I would change, it would be the option to either add a sauce to their bowls or purchase a side of say culantro sauce. I love the garlicky sauce on my plantains but whenever I order it's a hit or miss if I get the sauce, depending on who's working the register. I do not mind paying extra for sauce, please provide an option. Absolutely love this place and will continue to support this business. read more

I had the vegano bowl and a yuca con gandules empanada! They were both delicious. The bowl had a generous serving of of well seasoned gandules and plátanos maduros. The calabaza (pumpkin) and potato were so comforting and the avocado could've been a bit more generous but I'll ignore it since I was so full from the bowl. The empanada was super fresh and the filling was packed with flavor. The culantro garlic sauce also hit the spot. Service was friendly and timely especially seeing that my friend and I had arrived at a very busy time of day. The restaurant is made for takeout service with some chairs outside. We ate at a nearby park. If the owners are able to, having some small tables on the sidewalk would welcome some more dine-in clients. Well worth the hype! We were so excited when we heard Amy's was coming to our neighborhood and her and her friendly team did not disappoint. I ordered two pastelillos with one side for $13.00, which was well worth it. The shrimp pastelillo was very tasty, with plenty of shrimp filling. The beef pastelillo was an explosion of flavors, and even two hours later as I write this review, my mouth is still watering from the explosion. The side of tostones was just enough.
