Chicken shawarma and babaghanoush
Tammy L.

I'm so excited there's a new restaurant near where I work! And it's delicious! I truly believe that for a restaurant to succeed they must have at least outstanding food or outstanding customer service, and fortunately for these guys they have both. You are greeted with so much hospitality and openness from the moment you walk in. The chicken shawarma was clean but also flavorful, and it was my first time trying babaghanoush without tahini which I think might be the turkish version :) and it was really good! I will absolutely be back!

Lamb kebab, mixed appetizer plate.

Food is delicious. Brought back so many forest memories from my visit to Turkey almost 40 years ago. Everything was so tasty. Staff are very friendly. Great value. We will definitely become regulars.

The vegetable sides and salads are very large (at least as large as "main entrees" )and can be a main dish, or good for sharing. It is elevated cuisine but in a casual atmosphere. Service is friendly and attentive Fried beets --really nice balance of flavor here. They put honey on the beets, which might seem too extra because beets are sugar in themselves, but it brings out the earthiness of the beets. The plate also has pickled sweet peppers and a feta whip, and so all together this makes a great balance of flavors Roasted carrots --hearty portion with a labneh dip and preserved lemons There was not enough of the dip, imho, and we asked for more and they gladly gave us some no extra charge. Again, this was a great mix of flavors and textures. Oyster mushroom shashlick--the menu did not describe the sauce, which was a little spicy. (I'm sensitive to spice. Most would find this not spicy) Great tasting mushrooms that are skewered and grilled just like the meat versions at this restaurant. served with their smashed potatoes, which are crispy and seasoned. Chicken skewers --moist, with 8 bite-sized pieces. The potatoes are crispy and good. Overall, we liked all 4 items but I liked the beets the best! In the past we have had falafel and hummus, babaganoush, and beef/lamb dishes. They were all good. For dessert, we split a tea-flavored pot de creme. It was really yummy.

We have been at this restaurant several times before and it never disappoints. We ordered the Mixed Grill again and it was amazing. And when it's a Greek restaurant on top of that, that's basically a recipe for perfection. You can smell this place from blocks away. By the time you get to the parking lot, you're already salivating in anticipation. Vampires be warned: you're not getting within a half mile of this place! Sure, not everything was perfect about our meal: the Sarmisak (garlic dip with walnuts and parmesan) didn't do much for us, and my wife ended up preferring my Bahce over her grill plate (I can't remember the name of it), so we ended up swapping dishes. The Turkish Cigars were a huge hit with both of us, although we both wished they were a bit larger. I'm not sure I quite "get" the running aesthetic going on here at "The White House", as well as their sister establishments "The Oval Office", "The Pentagon", and "The Capitol". I mean, I get the theme, but...why? I don't get the Why of it all. Regardless, it's immaterial. The food is awesome, and worthy of a President. Well, not our current President...but one of the good ones, for sure! The staff are efficient, somehow buzzing about all over the place, managing the chaos (this place was PACKED on a Saturday night), but still managed to be friendly, attentive and focused. And despite ordering two cocktails, two appetizers, and two entreés, our bill was somehow still less than $100, I'd say that you definitely get your money's worth here! Hell, we even took enough leftover back to our hotel to keep us fed almost the entire next day! In short, I would vote whomever is running THIS White House in for a second term...and a third...and a fourth!

The app for three came with pita bread, falafel, hummus with babaganous, tzatiziki, and dolma. The falafel had a wonderful herby flavor, but was really soft and nearly mushy. The hummus was okay, a nice texture but was just okay. The tzatiziki was herby, a member mentioned it was too sour for her, but another enjoyed it quite a bit. The pita was soft, but just didn't have much flavor and tasted a bit old. I had the gyro sandwich with fries. The food was not hot and the meat lacked charring. The cuts were uneven and the fries were just fries. A member of my party ordered the chicken sharma. The rice was delious! Fluffy and had a wonderful flavor with turmeric and some other spices. Her meat was also cooked nicely, but honestly just lacked flavor. The salads of both the shish kabobs and the chicken Sharma were fresh but had really uneven cuts. The shish kabob meat was beautifully charred however the meat was cool. Also the rice lacked flavor and was only saved by the cliantro lemon vingrette. The drinks were nice. We got cucumber, lemongrass, and hibsus. They were all mild in flavor which paired well with the food. Honestly everything was lacking depth and care.

We had the Beef Manto dumplings, the chicken kebab, and an order of the curried eggplant. Everything was packed full of flavors. We went before the dinner hour, and our server explained it would take about 20 minutes. Worth the wait! My wife and I enjoy cooking lots of varied cuisines at home, and consequently feel like the bar is set pretty high when we eat out. Needless to say, we'll be back. It's nice to feel good about supporting local restaurants instead of just buying generic corporate fast food.

I got an order of the Manto (dumplings), the Koobideh kebab, and the meatballs with a side of rice. The Manto was prepared well and was tantalizing as I had hoped. The koobideh was flavourful, perfectly cooked, and just what I wanted. The Meatballs with a side of rice was more of me trying something new, and I can say it was full of flavour and I was not disappointed at all. I highly recommend this place to all those who like Afghan food, and even those who have not given it a try. Please do! Service staff was friendly and ambiance made me feel like I was at a restaurant/gathering in Afghanistan, and made my imagination create a positive association. Prices are on the higher end. Expect to pay about $20+ for each dish. My bill came out to about $70, but I'll have to say the food was excellent, and I plan on returning one more time before I leave Spokane.

If you're expecting traditional Persian or Mediterranean food you'll be disappointed…read more Saturday night with a group of 10, we were pretty much the only ones in the restaurant. Our host was the chef and also the server He actually did a good job. Beside not really talking to us, he wasn't too delayed with the service The food was "Eh" The pita was more of a thin bread... kinda had a chemically taste to them The basmati rice was almost flavorless beside that chemical taste again. Large portions ... but large portions of "eh" food didn't seem like a plus at the end of the day Eggplant curry was ok... Chicken kabob was better than ok.. chicken was a little dry Friends at the table ordered the qorma-sabzi... this was actually the highlight of the meal. I hardly run into Afghan restaurants, so I was really excited to try this place. We came here for lunch. It wasn't very busy. I saw a few families come in, so this place is great for big groups. I ordered the Manto and my husband ordered the eggplant curry. I've had afghan manto before as an appetizer, but never as an entree. The portions were huge, and each dish were large enough for two people to share. I don't know what kind of sauces are included with these dishes, but they're so delicious. I also like the yogurt sauce that it came with. The dishes were already good by itself, but the yogurt sauce made it a lot better. I'd like to try other things next time, but you can't go wrong with the manto and eggplant curry!
