Strolling around Valencia Street chilling and checking out the stores, shops and restaurants. Wanted to have a light early dinner so decided to try Anatolian Tavern. We liked their outdoor parklet and table seating (we had our dog with us). One of the few places that cater to al fresco dining. We initially walked past this restaurant and the waiter told us to sit down and give their food a try. We told him we would come back... which we did. Along with a glass of wine we ordered their Hummus cold mezes, Borek hot mezes and the Kubasi Pide flat bread the waiter recommended. All three items were excellent! Hummus was smooth and rich flavored, served with their house made seasoned bread was delish! Ask for more bread. The Borek was crispy light and flakey with the cheesy center. Wow so good! The finale was the Kubasi Pide flatbread. Nice crisp golden brown crust with savory meaty filling. Beautifully crafted and served on a wood platter. I was very interested to try this restaurant after seeing some of the dishes online. I brought my family for a late dinner and we absolutely loved the vibe and the interior decor. The staff were super nice and accommodating, despite us getting there so late/close to closing time. After a round of beers, we tried several dishes, including the lahmacun, the pastirma pide, the falafel salad, and for dessert, the rice pudding. I definitely preferred the pides and the rice pudding was delicious! However, I was not a huge fan of the lahmacun. It was bland despite the side veggies, and desperately in need of salt. All the savory dishes would have benefited from a bit more salt, in fact. Overall, still a very good meal and I recommend trying it! read more

Beautifully decorated hip restaurant featuring Turkish cuisine. Manager very welcoming. Indoor and outdoor seating. Full bar. Started with hummus and badimcan, a delicious roasted eggplant appetizer. Came and tried a bunch of their dishes. Meze combo, sultani, manti, and chicken brochette were all good, but the star for me was the lahmacun, which I haven't had since Istanbul. With the herbs and the lemon, it was such a lovely bright and savory contrast of textures. The shalgam though was decidedly not our jam - salty earthy pickle brine-y, served room temp. No thank you. The kunefe was also a bit of a letdown - quite small, not very cheesy or crispy. Should have stopped at the apps and mains. We were able to walk in and snag a table for 4 easily at 6:30pm on a Friday, but it definitely filled up shortly after. Amazing Turkish cuisine! My partner and I spontaneously sat here for a weekend meal and were pleasantly blown away by the food and service. What we ordered: + Meze Combo [5/5]: A bit overpriced for the portion but the diversity of spreads and dips was worth it IMO. The hummus and ezme were very classically flavored. The dolma, borek, tzatziki, and falafel were out of this world!! The combo comes with multiple slices of bread. + Lahmacun [6/5 - would recommend]: SOOO WORTH. The portion size, flavor, and texture of this is amazing! The veggies and herbs are incredibly fresh. This is my favorite and I would 100% order this again. + Beyti [5/5]: Very impressive dish. I've been wanting to try this place! I finally made it out to dinner and it was great. They serve Turkish food in a cute restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. They don't take reservations but have a paper waitlist at the door. I came on a Saturday at 6pm with a party of 5 and was seated within 5-10min. We ordered the mezze combo, octapodaki, horiakti salad, the lahmacun, and manti! Everything was amazing, we were so stuffed by the end of the meal. The mezze came with a fresh flatbread that went well with the dips. The octapodaki was cooked and seasoned well. It was my first time having lahmacun and it was great with the onions and parsley. Food was decent - not great, and everything arrived close to room temperature. Service was terrible. I'm an older guy dining solo at the bar, so I'm used to being ignored, but this was bad. The counter was not at all busy so it's not like they needed to rush me but that's mostly how it felt. First of all, the waitress arrived and wanted my entire order - drink and meal together. The drink arrived and within 5 minutes the luke warm appetizer. I had about three bites of the appetizer when the main course arrived. Clearly she put in the whole order at once. After waiting over 10 minutes after my plates were cleared, she came for payment without even offering the dessert menu. I'm usually a 25-30% tipper and rarely leave less than 20% for even mediocre service, but she got 8%. Worst, most disrespectful service I've ever received. read more

Great local spot! The restaurant is so cute and inviting with all of the lights and plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. It wasn't too busy on a Sunday night, but I've seen it packed on a Friday and Saturday and during lunchtimes as well so there may be a wait. Service is excellent with attention to detail. The staff explains all of the food and constantly checks to see how you're doing and if you need anything. The food is solid - I highly recommend the appetizer platter so you can try everything. There are a lot of options of flatbread so they're good to try. The moussaka has a perfect ratio of vegetables to layers with good flavor. A delicious brunch experience in a beautiful setting. I visited on a Saturday afternoon, and the restaurant was pretty empty. There's a lot of seating both inside and outside. The outside tables had heaters for colder weather. My party of five was immediately seated inside, and the interior had plenty of natural light and wall art. The service was speedy and efficient. Since we visited during lunchtime, we could only order from the brunch menu, which was much smaller than the dinner menu but still had delicious options. Most of the dishes here really impressed me. The lahmacun was insanely good, a flatbread topped with minced meat. The warm and savory meat on bread paired well with refreshing toppings, like tomatoes and onions. The lamb casserole was also delicious - the meat was seasoned and cooked incredibly. The sauce from the casserole was amazingly savory - I dipped the free bread provided into the sauce, and it made for the perfect bite. For dessert, the katmer was utter perfection. The dish features a very thin phyllo dough accompanied by plenty of fruit and creamy, sweet kaymak. It was both fresh and rich. The presentation was also stunning. While most dishes were a hit, I was actually shocked by the horiatiki, a $15 salad. This $15 salad was ridiculously small and was probably made using a single tomato and a single cucumber. There were literally fewer than five pieces of feta cheese in this $15 salad - each person in my five person party ate half a cube of feta cheese. I truly don't think anything about this tiny dish would justify a $15 price point. I think there were probably five bites total to this salad. Other than the unfortunate salad sizing, I was super impressed with my brunch here, and the dishes were seasoned to perfection. read more

Unexpected is the word I would use to describe this restaurant. We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and had a fantastic evening. From the moment we walked in, everyone made us feel genuinely welcome. Erich, Yulia, Tuba, and even the busser were incredibly attentive, friendly, and made the experience feel special. The kibbeh wasn't quite what we're used to from other countries, so it wasn't our favorite--but that's simply a matter of personal taste. The flatbread absolutely won my heart. Warm, fresh, and so delicious that we couldn't stop eating it. The lamb was unbelievably tender, practically melting in our mouths, and we kept going back for more. Paired with a lovely bottle of wine, everything was simply outstanding. Delicious food, warm hospitality, and a memorable atmosphere. It was absolutely worth the price, and we'll definitely be back. We tried to go to Jilli and there was a 3 hour wait. Because I had already drove all the way to SF from South Bay we decided to walk around until then but after an ice cream and an hour and a half later we needed to sit down. We decided to get a small bite at Anatolian table. It might have been more than a small bite. We got the tabbouleh salad with dates and a flatbread. I knew of tabbouleh's only from the Key and Peele skit where they're at the gym and say "holy Tabbouleh," while my friend watched some hot ones video where the celebrity noted the tabbouleh salad would be their last meal. I think this heightened our expectations a bit but it was still pretty good, although I'm not sure it would be either of our last meals. I do like the contrast with the date. We definitely bit off more than we can chew with a double flatbread but the combination of the two was pretty good too. A decent snack to keep us going until 8pm, in a comfy casual vibe. read more

Great for dinner! We visited Anatolian Table on a Saturday evening and got seated right away with no reservation. I didn't get to see the interior, but the outdoor area had a nice ambiance, despite being practically on the sidewalk - good for people watching! For starters, we shared the Meze Combo and two orders of Kibbeh (for 4 people). Both were delicious! I especially loved the tzatziki and borek in the combo. The Kibbeh were also fantastic in their lemon yogurt sauce. For entrees, we also ordered items to share - the Sucuklu Pide and Manti. The Sucuklu Pide was delicious and super filling! The dried beef soujouk was fantastic, and I'd be curious to try this with egg next time. The Manti were also excellent - definitely tinier than I'm used to, but killer in the garlic yogurt/tomato sauce and burnt butter. We couldn't resist trying the Kunefe for dessert, which I was obsessed with. The combination of sweet pistachio with salty cheese worked so well together. Within walking distance of Dolores Park, it was the perfect spot to rest and have dinner after a long day in the city. The restaurant itself is beautiful with an old school vibe and plenty of lush greenery off the site. Everything we tried was tasty but on the smaller side. Mezze combo (4/5): Standard sampler of the usual Mediterranean appetizers such as hummus, falafel, tzatziki, tabouli, and olives. Smaller portions of everything, but everything was good. Appreciated we were offered a refill on the bread to make sure we finished everything. Yogurt Kofte (4/5): The seasoned ground lamb and beef was tasty, but felt cooked a little under and a bit on the small side. The yogurt provided a nice creamy counterbalance and the onions had the perfect acidity. Surprisingly, for a Sunday night, it was easy to walk in and get seated. Took over a pizza spot so they have the ovens to make mediterranean flatbreads, which I don't see too many of in SF. - Kibbeh - ground beef balls with onion, cumin, parsley, nuts, and yogurt. This restaurant is located in the old Flour and Water Pizza space. When we arrived at 6 pm it was empty, but by 6:30 the place had filled up quickly. I was glad we chose to sit inside because PG&E decided around 6:45 that it was the perfect time to dig into the sidewalk directly outside, right between the outdoor dining booths and the entrance. That was a close call. I came on a double date with some best friends, and we started with the meze platter to share. Everything was delicious, but the item I cannot stop thinking about was a small yellow crispy egg roll type bite filled with sweet cheese. It was absolutely spectacular. We also split a kebab platter, which was tasty, and another standout was the lamb flatbread. I may insult someone by saying this, but a drizzle of the yogurt sauce served with the platter would have taken it to an even higher level. My group shared a variety of mezes & mains. Rave reviews for the Pastirma (beef carpaccio) appetizer & Lamb Brochette. The standout item for me was Feta Garides, jumbo prawns with artichoke, cherry tomato, & feta in a delicious white wine sauce. Sarma were stuffed grape leaves served warm (I'm used to Greek dolmas served cold.) Kibbeh had ground beef wrapped in heavily-spiced bulgur. I'm not really getting the hype, if I'm being honest. I tried one of their signature Pides (Sucuklu, or Turkish sausage). It was good, but after tax & tip came to $29, which is steep for what is effectively a fancy flatbread. I didn't find the dough to be particularly special, and given that they supposedly lead with their baked goods, I expected something with a little more "pop." Also, the sausage was tasty, but I found it to be a little one-note, and on this particular item would have liked some other topping or garnish to cut the saltiness. It was served with a side of very fresh chopped tomatoes and onions. If it were $10 cheaper, it would have been an easy 4 stars, but even in this financial climate, I can't justify the high cost. read more

We ordered the mezze sampler and two glasses of the happy hour wine. All the dips were tasty and the bread was chewy with a bit of a crust with a nice bite. Much different that regular pita. That was enough food for two people who weren't very hungry, but next time I want to get a pida - the pizza-like Turkish flatbread.
