Came here for dinner on a Saturday. Got the chickpea falafel. Honestly so good and flavorful. The sauce on top was amazing and really tied it together. The hummus was very creamy and not too salty. Also ordered the chicken skewer. The chicken itself was tasty and well seasoned, but the rice stood out a lot. The raisins added a nice sweetness and it came with more of that same sauce from the falafel which was amazing. Really yummy Turkish restaurant! I came here with a friend for their Turkish breakfast for 2 and we were blown away by the variety of flavors and the large portion! There's a variety of warm bread, a spread of olives, cheese, yogurt dip, tahini, and shashuka with beef sausage. My favorite bites were the shashuka with pita bread and the simit (a Turkish sesame pretzel) topped with kaymak + honey. I loved the kaymak which reminded me of a British clotted cream and the labnah parfait which had such a great thick greek yogurt consistency with a nice tang. Service was good. We sat in their outdoor covered seating and it was nice and clean. We tried the Turkish beef dumpling with the yogurt sauce and the lamb chops with warm hummus and roasted potatoes. Troya delivers on all three of the main objectives: food, service, and ambiance. First, the service was impeccable from reservation to finishing our dinner. We came with a large party for a rehearsal dinner and the servers and hostess were helpful and friendly. The food is delicious. The roasted cauliflower, quinoa salad with raisins, hummus tzatziki trio, and Brussel sprouts were loved by the entire table. Two people in our party had never eaten Brussel sprouts and I can assure you they are now fans thanks to Troya. For mains people had a mix of chicken, lamb, salmon skewers. Very cute place. I didn't think it would be as spacious inside based on the outside. I went on a Saturday afternoon around 130p. There were people in there and we got seated right away. There was a DJ there. I thought that was a cool addition to the ambiance. I had the Shashuka. It was very saucy. I wish they provided more pita bread because I had a lot of tomato sauce left. The sauce didn't quite taste homemade but more out of a can. I could be wrong but to me it didn't taste "fresh". It was still good though. The egg was cooked just right. My friend had the Turkish scramble. He said it was good. I could've scooped some of his scrambled eggs to mix with my tomato sauce. I would come back again. The table next to us had a huge salad. We found Troya to be ok, 3.5 stars (which I'll round up as usual). We got there for a late lunch, around 3pm, and ordered the Vegetarian feast for two. There were several dishes, with a range of quality. First out was a salad, which wasn't very good. It's not a Greek salad, for one thing. The feta was completely tasteless, and watermelon radishes look nice, but added no flavor. We mostly tasted the dressing and green (?) olives. There was a platter with tzatziki, hummus, and muhammara, with some pita. It wasn't bad, not special. The falafel balls and dolmades were quite good. We liked the cauliflower and crispy brussel sprouts with aioli very much. Finally there was moussaka, made with eggplant with lentils inside. More seasoning was needed in the tomato sauce, and the rice pilaf was pretty bland as well. But it was a lot of food, and we left with several boxes. They've got something for everyone and everything is well prepared and quite tasty. For a group, the menu is especially effective with lots of appetizers and small plates. Portions aren't big so we ended up needing to ask for 2nd orders of many appetizers. Mains are... Fine. Again, not large in size, generally tasty, and nothing too unfamiliar. (Kebabs,etc). We tried the Lokum (Turkish delight) in a few flavors. It was good but pricey. Maybe skip that unless you're a big fan already. All the vegan, gluten free, allergen issues were really well handled by the server. So overall this is a sure bet. We went to Troya to celebrate our anniversary. I noted that on the open table reservation. It was pretty easy to get a Monday night 6:30 reservation. There were plenty of tables to choose from, too. He had an IPA and I had a glass of Turkish red wine. They came pretty fast. My wine was served chilled which was interesting, but fine. We shared the Brussels sprouts. They were loaded with paprika. So much in fact that my plate was red after trying a bite. Too spicy and no Brussels sprout flavor. Not my favorite. Then, I had the quinoa salad and he had the lamb shoulder. My salad didn't really have quinoa. It mostly had lettuce and radishes and strawberries and olives. It was listed on the menu as having pomegranate and apples. When it came with strawberries, I asked our server why it had something else. Apparently they were out. I wish I knew that because I don't like strawberries and was hopeful to have a quinoa salad. Everything was amazing! I always get a craving for a rich, creamy tzatziki or Turkish cacik. It has become one of my favorite comfort foods. This place did not disappoint. The tzatziki was well seasoned with just the right amount of oil garnished on top. The rice was buttery and delightful. It had some of my favorite ingredients, like chickpeas and slivered almonds. Troya is a Turkish restaurant on Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights. The atmosphere is trendy/bougie. Occasionally they have a DJ spinning. It is very stark white inside with a mural of a blond lady (basically the opposite of a more traditional, Turkish maximalist aesthetic). Troya has some of the best vegetarian Moussaka ($23). It is a large portion and a hardy dish served with rice, I often take some home with me. I love the addition of lentils and garbanzo beans, and I wish I had thought of that myself! The Moussaka is not photogenic and is particularly excellent during the rainy season. I know Turkish cuisine is rarely spicy but it could be improved with a side of chile flake (maybe a Urfa biber), and/or a small salad. The red lentil soup ($9) has good flavor and is a generous size, comes with a side of bread. The "Turkish Scramble" ($16) at brunch was also outstanding, I loved the flavors of tomato and mint blended with egg. My Turkish tea was made incorrectly at Troya, which really rubbed me the wrong way at first but eventually I got over it. It is clearly not a traditional restaurant. I have seen the neighborhood clientele coming by Troya for baklava and Turkish delights. I have never tried it here but it's popular. read more

They nail it every time! I often come here with colleagues for lunch, but came for dinner last night with a buddy who hadn't heard of it. The atmosphere is quiet, and I noticed they dimmed the lights a bit for dinner, which added to its unique ambiance. For appetizers, I had the hummus plate (which comes with additional dips) and my friend had the soup. You can really tell that their emphasis is on the flavor of the dips and the bread doesn't take away from that- an undeniable delicious combo. The braised lamb shoulder has become one of my favorite dishes in the city so I ordered that and my friend had the salmon skewers (he's pescatarian so it was great that there were options for him too, that he said MUST be equally as good). I believe there are some vegetarian options as well. The portions are perfect, and they don't skimp on the protein. I had enough to take home for lunch (along with what was left of the dips) Not only is the food fantastic, the service is spot on as it never felt intrusive, under or over the top. I went to church in SF for a bit and so wanted something warm to eat after service. After looking on Yelp a bit, I found Troya. The place is really bright and clean, with marble tabletops. I ordered a salmon dish and some baklava dessert, and the total came out to $50 for one person which I thought was a bit much for not a lot of quantity of food, hence my 4 star rating. I do think this would be a fun place to eat at just to grab snacks or if you're with a group of people who are not too hungry in a nice-looking establishment. The service was good, people kept checking up on me, and the staff was friendly. The Turkish coffee is like an espresso and comes with a little slice of Turkish delight which was truly delightful! The slice served to us was the pomegranate one. The Turkish breakfast includes shakshuka, a bread bowl, and spread of dips and accoutrements. My standout favorites included the sesame bread, mozzarella stuffed filo bites, lavash yogurt with berries and granola, and muhummara dip. I've never had muhummara dip and it was excellent. I decided to mix the egg and the avocado within the tomato sauce and scoop the tomato sauce into the flat naan like bread. I left the orange last because I treated that as dessert. This dish was light because it contained mostly vegetables. I did feel like the sauce got salty near the end, when I ran out of the bread to scoop it up with. I think what I should have done is mix the avocado and egg further to make a creamier texture. I got to try the avocado toast and that was pretty good. The bread was thick and there was slices upon slices of avocado on top. They ordered a variant of the avocado toast, that comes with a layer of cooked egg. I love Troya Mediterranean Kitchen on the hip Fillmore Street in San Francisco for its authentic and delicious cuisine. The Turkish brunch sampler for 2 ($60) is definitely something to share and write home about, especially if you're a fan of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. My favorite items from the sampler included the green olives with red seasoning sprinkled on top, fresh tomato/cucumber, tahini with sesame seeds and almost a creamy peanut butter dessert consistency, dried dates and walnuts (try dipping the date in the tahini at the end of your meal as a sweet treat), and both cheeses. Our server let us know that one cheese is a feta and the other is a harder, more-aged version, and that both included a combination of three types of milk - cow, goat, and sheep. This definitely made the cheese easier to digest, and I personally recommend putting the feta on the shakshuka. The Shakshuka was also good but felt like it could have been great if we had eaten this immediately because the eggs seem to continue cooking the longer you let it sit. I do wish that the lamb sausage either was mixed into the sauce so that the sauce absorbed the flavor, or that the lamb sausage was cooked for less time so that it was less crispy. It comes with slices of lamb but as of now these seem like they could be easily removed if you're vegetarian. If you order extra bread, heads up that it is an additional $10, but since they bring you an entire tray of different bread types it feels worth it. The Turkish coffee ($5) is worth trying at least once if you enjoy super strong tasting coffee, or if you're just an adventurous person. It also comes served in a cute cup and saucer with a little treat on the side. For those wanting a regular coffee ($3.50) with their brunch, not to fear because they have this as well. read more
