Taksim is a trendy, modern Turkish restaurant with a hipster warehouse vibe. I hosted a large party here and took advantage of their family-style menu. First, we started with a happy hour with passed hors d'ouervres: ezme crunch (tomato, walnuts, feta, tarhana chips); shawarma-spiced chicken; panisse (chickpea fries with toum sauce); dolmas (grape leaves stuffed with rice); and my favorite, the phyllo-wrapped crunchy shrimp with urfa sweet chili sauce. The plated dishes came once we were seated, and we started with a spread of dips (hummus, baba ghanoush, muhammara) with freshly-baked, warm, fluffy pita. Next came spicy blistered Shishito peppers topped with tomatoes, shoestring potatoes, and garlic yogurt; a green salad made of arugula, baby spinach, cranberries, delicata squash, goat cheese, and pepitas; patlican, meltingly tender butter poached eggplant topped with black olives, sundried tomatoes, and walnuts; and beef shish kebabs with sumac onions. My favorite appetizer bites were the warm, fluffy pita and the shish kebabs, but everything was fresh and delicious. The highlight of the meal was the mains. The Güvec was a slow-cooked beef stew with onion, potato, garlic, and red & green peppers cooked in an earthenware pot covered with a layer of dough and baked. The chunks of beef were so tender and went nicely with the side of orzo pilaf. Next came the Dorade, skin-on fillets of white fish served over a mustard cream sauce and a meltingly delicious, savory combination of chopped Swiss chard & cabbage. Finally, the Blackened Cauliflower was a super tender roasted head of cauliflower served with tahini and garlic crumbs--the dish sounded and appeared simple but was deceptively delicious! Dessert closed out the meal--the Taksim Donuts were five-spice chocolate fritters, served with mascarpone chantilly, chocolate ice cream, and chocolate sand. The donuts themselves were completely unsweetened, making them perfect vessels for the chocolate creams. And the Baklava Story was a classic dessert of baklava (layered phyllo dough with nuts) served with vanilla ice cream. Overall, the food at Taksim was absolutely delicious, and the service was super friendly and hospitable. Taksim provided an excellent dining experience that I hope to experience again soon! Along with group of friends, I recently visited Taksim for a birthday dinner. The staff were super attentive, friendly, and helpful. They were willing to accommodate the fact that we were in a bit of a rush and met our requests quickly and efficiently. The interior was curated well, bright, and airy, with views into the kitchen from across the restaurant. We started by ordering delightful, cocktails, and the trio of dips, which were very tasty. When we asked for extra pita bread on the side, the waiter provided us their wood fired flower bread on the house, which proved to be a highlight of the meal. The soft interior of the bread contrasted excellently with the crunchier exterior. I won't forget that bread anytime soon. The dips themselves were excellent, though the muhammara was a stand out. The crispy shrimp appetizer was great, providing an uncomplicated but fun bite which allowed the soft shrimp to work well with the crunchy exterior and sweet sauce. The shish kebab was praised by the birthday girl for its seasoning and consistency. For the main entree, we got the bronzino, which came with sardine rice, mustard, and some delightful greens, which were another standout on the meal. While the price is high for the Bronzino entree given how much fish was served, we did feel that the quality of execution balanced out the price point. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and, believe that it's worth going out for if they are in a different neighborhood and want a delightful Turkish meal. read more

Taksim is definitely worth a visit, we went as a group and everyone enjoyed their dishes! The interior is moody and cute, quiet enough to hold conversations. The best dishes from our group were the lamb chops and Güveç, both well seasoned and tender. The dumplings were our favorite of the appetizers we got. I think I would come back to try the 7 course tasting menu, at $65 pp it seems reasonable. We also got a complimentary dessert since we had a birthday, the pudding was delicious! I think what makes this a 4 instead of 5 stars is the price point for what you receive, it's all good but not "blow your mind" good, and it's on the pricier side. Perfect spot to celebrate an anniversary The vibe felt so intimate and homey, with a balcony on top! My boyfriend and I made a reservation for the $65 tasting menu and it was amazing! Before going, I was worried the portions might be small and that we'd leave hungry but we were both surprisingly full by the end. Every dish was thoughtfully curated, and honestly, the sauces were what made everything stand out. We also ordered the wood-fired bread outside of the tasting menu because it looked too good to pass up. And the butter paired with it was amazing. Top dishes in the tasting menu for me were the cauliflower, fried shrimp, and the shish kabob. But THE standout was their chocolate dessert. I actually don't like chocolate (unpopular opinion), but it was so good we both went silent and completely cleaned our plates. The servers were also so nice throughout the whole night. Great spot in SF for Turkish food! My friends and I made a reservation and our service was quick and attentive. Restaurant has three floors, which creates an intimate and bustling environment! We ordered trio dips and flower bread for our appetizers, which were flavorful! Especially loved the garlic butter the flower bread came with. For our mains, we ordered the wheat berry risotto, eggplant, and cauliflower. Our mains were delicious and incorporated a variety of flavors. The presentation alone is often worth the price of the dish. The flavors are as close to perfect combinations that are unique while maintaining the spirit of the dish they are inspired by. I was blown away by their take on risotto which I really feel shows off the skills of the individual chefs; and I liked every other dish even more than that. The staff is also some of the friendliest, most helpful, most accommodating, and most accomplished I've ever seen. They cater to what seems like every dietary restriction. They are very attentive and our server had incredible recommendations for drinks. That brings us to the drinks. Whoever designed the drink menu should get several awards. The cocktails are easily some of the best and most creative I've had in the city and the wine list is superb featuring a wonderful selection focusing on sustainability and highlights Mediterranean wine well. Great seating and vibes inside -- it gets quite busy immediately, so I recommend getting a reservation. Everything we ordered was well-balanced. The shrimp was tender and the exterior had a good crunch, but personally didn't find anything largely standout for this dish. The last appetizer was the beef kebabs. Made a reservation for dinner here before a concert at Chase Center on a Thursday night, and I'm very glad I did. We decided to go for the 7 course tasting menu, which at the price of $59 per person (before tax + tip) is an excellent deal. We enjoyed almost all of the courses. For the main course, you have a choice between the Branzino (5/5) and Shish Kebab (4.5/5), and I highly recommend going with the Branzino. I had never had sea beans before, but I must say the branzino paired with the grilled sea beans was phenomenal. The crunchy shrimp (5/5) was the other stand out dish. I also really liked the Manti (dumplings) (4.5/5). Service was good - with the multi course meal we had multiple servers bringing out different dishes. Ambiance-wise it's quite nice inside. The only reservation I could get last minute was at the counter, but with only two of us we got our own separate counter space, which was nice. Located just a 10 minute walk from Oracle Park, this is a perfect sized restaurant that offers a smooth ambiance and outdoor seating. The service was top notch with everyone being so kind and attentive. As for the food...floored! You can tell there is so much care and thought put into both the ingredients and presentation. I was looking through OpenTable and saw Takism had plenty of same day availability, so I decided to give it a try. We did the tasting menu, which had a wide selection of dishes, and I was definitely impressed with the food! We started off with some cocktails, both of which I was not a fan of. Mine was basically a glass of champagne with a raspberry in it, and my partner got a peach cocktail that was sooo sour. We also split a Turkish beer, which was really good! The dishes were all perfectly timed, and we never waited too long or felt rushed. It was also fun sitting at the counter to be able to see the chefs at work. My ratings of the dishes: Ezme Crunch - 9/10 delicious but tiny lol Patlican - 7/10 super unique but a bit too mushy for my liking Blackened Cauliflower - 8/10 amazing flavors but was also a bit on the mushy side Crunchy Shrimp - 10/10 super unique and had a great balance of flavors and textures Manti - 8/10 tasted almost Italian, but I enjoyed it Branzino - I only tried a bite of the fish, but it was decent! (You have the choice of this fish or the shish kebab) Shish Kebab - 9/10 definitely the best shish kebab I've ever had, and the onions and tomato were also incredible. Taksim Donuts - 10/10 I would come back just for this dessert. So delicious and you must get it. Overall I enjoyed the food and service. Next time I would pass on the tasting menu and just order a couple dishes to share. My biggest gripe is that the portions were pretty small and inconsistent (for example I watched them prepare four plates of the ezme crunch and one of them had nearly twice as much as the others). Our total bill for two people was about $200 after all the taxes/mandates and tip, which is pretty steep. We had a small group of 7, and I was thrilled when I heard that we were going to be doing their 7-course tasting menu. This is something that they offer daily, however, the entire party must opt-in to the tasting menu in order to do it, which worked well for our table of foodies. Not to mention, it's a total steal at just $59/pp. I love mediterranean and Turkish food, so I knew this experience would be right up my alley. Before getting into the tasting menu, we started with some cocktails, wine, and appetizers to share. I particularly loved the shishito peppers, the chickpea fries, and the beets. I also ordered the black salt blaze cocktail (mezcal, homemade hot sauce, lime, orange syrup, & black salt) which was smokey and refreshing. As we dived into the tasting menu, each course was so delicious. I began wishing I had not eaten so many appetizers because this was definitely a generous amount of food. Some of the stand-out courses for me were the crunchy shrimp (kadaif wrapped topped with a sweet chili sauce), the manti dumplings, and the star of the show -- the branzino which was perfectly paired with the saltiness of the grilled sea beans. I saved just enough room for the dessert course which was the Taksim donuts which was the perfect ending to the meal. This tasting menu really is such a great value and gave us all the opportunity to try so many of their dishes. Meal started off with the amuse bouche which was a vegetarian soup. Flavors and portions were excellent. Moved on to the ezme crunch which was ok. Loved the presentation, although I didn't quite understand this course. The patlican course was also mediocre. Some of the eggplant was a touch undercooked while the flavorings could be stronger. The blackened cauliflower course was great. Loved the textures although the cauliflower seemed to be a touch overcooked. The highlight of the meal may have been the crunchy shrimp. Presentation was great although the sauce seemed pre-packaged... The manti looked great but the execution was lacklustre. The skin was too thick and the meat was overcooked. I was debating on the lamb chops instead of the tasting menu and I was glad that I did the tasting menu as the lamb chops seemed to be seared on the grill and then finished off in the oven. The seasoning didn't look as strong as Evvia. The shish kebab course looked good although the meats were well done and the flavors were rather light. The lavash bread was decent. The taksim donuts as the dessert course was excellent. Loved the contrasting textures. Our group of nine dined here on a Tuesday night, and we had a lovely meal from start to finish. We were seated upstairs in the balcony nook, which gave us a gorgeous (and exclusive) view of the rest of the restaurant. We shared several of the starters. Some of my favorite bites included the Lamb Carpaccio, Blistered Shishitos, Chickpea Fries, and the Taksim Trio Dips & Pita. The pita in particular was extra fluffy and served warm, making it the perfect vehicle for all of their tasty Mediterranean dips. For my entree, I ordered the Lamb Chops. These were expertly cooked and full of flavor, though the rice they are served on wasn't my favorite. I also tried a few Mezcal cocktails - the Black Salt Blaze followed by the Nevizade. These drinks were a nice contrast to each other: the former was hot and spicy, while the latter was smoky and sweet. We barely had room for dessert, but managed a few bites of the Taksim Donuts. As soon as we walked in, the smells of deliciousness hit our noses. The staff were very welcoming and also brought over a carrot/ginger soup shot as a little welcome item which was a very nice touch. Throughout the meal the service was stellar. The food itself was also very good. The flower bread is super soft, airy and the sumac butter just takes it to a whole new level. The dip trio was also a very good idea. You've had these dips before I'm sure, but Taksim's are even better. The cocktails and wine list are also impressive with some winners along the way. Chickpeas, beats, and shishitos, oh my! Went to Taksim with a group of 9 on a Tuesday night. They were hosting an even larger group of 30+ people upstairs, but did and OK job on keeping tabs on us. Our group ordered basically all of the small plates. The beets were delicious, shishito peppers were the perfect heat, and the trio of dips were all fantastic. I love a creamy hummus. The chickpea fries.... how did they get them in a perfect rectangular prism shape?! They had the most gorgeous crispy outside and warm, potato-y consistency inside. They looked like legos! So fun. The portion sizes of the appetizers were great for our large group, but definitely too big for a table of 2-3 people. Something to keep in mind if you like to try a bunch of different things. The cocktails were pretty and refreshing. I had the artichoke/orange fish. It was a great white, flaky fish. The fish was cooked with a gorgeous crust on the outside, but the flavors felt really disjointed to me. I don't think the artichoke belonged on the plate at all, and the orange sauce was an off consistency that wouldn't stick to the fish very well. read more

I went in on a Saturday evening after a giants game. We had a party of 5 and were able to make same day reservations. Taksim is a tucked away gem that I never would have found, but so glad that I did. From the moment we opened the door to the moment we left the service was amazing. We went here for a team dinner one night and sat at a large table on the left downstairs. We were a little jealous of another team upstairs in the mezzanine looking down on us, but they said after that it was hot up there so jokes on them. We did a tasting menu that has so many things on it that I can't even recall. Plus, I was the only guy at the table so I got all the leftovers and left very full. If I had to choose a favorite it would be the crispy shrimp. I could have eaten 20 of those things. I highly recommend for a group dinner. read more

Oh my gosh! This place is amazing. We visited for a work dinner. Our group had 9 in it and the restaurant was also balancing other large groups and a group of 32. First things first, I want to say how amazing the staff was. Polite and quick service - I could not tell they had a huge group they were working because I felt we were always attended to. Okay, now, on to the food. Just wow. We ordered a bunch of mezehs for the table, which I recommend. My favorites were the shishito peppers, the dumplings (!!), and the trio dip. I ate myself silly. So much so that I got a shish kebab for dinner and had to bring it home. For drinks, I had their smoked old fashion, which I enjoyed immensely. Finally, for dessert, they brought out these chocolate donuts, which were delicious! But my personal favorite was actually the baklava that they also brought out. Overall, an amazing experience. Taksim is the real deal when it comes to Turkish food in SF. The flavors, the options, the decor in the restaurant all transports you to Turkey. I was lucky enough to be able to try a bunch of different foods at the restaurant and they were all amazing. My favorites were the beet juice at the beginning of the meal and the shishito peppers. The waitstaff were very kind and helpful and the drinks were super delicious as well. Definitely a place worth checking out and a beautiful restaurant for any occasion. read more

Taksim was such a delight! The service was top tier. We had a large group and there was another larger group upstairs with us but the servers didn't miss a beat. I didn't have a cocktail but my sparkling water was constantly being refilled. We ordered a bit of everything and that was perfect. From the beets, to the cauliflower, the shrimp and the hummus everything I tasted was divine. The shishito peppers were so tasty. I didn't have the appetite for an entree but all of the entrees were reported to be delicious. The atmosphere was moody and romantic. The space itself had a warm industrial interior design with nice finishes. It was quite lovely. read more

The dips were all really unique and yummy! Sad that it costs extra to add more bread. :( + Lettuce Salad (4/5) Good portion size and fresh lettuce! The sauce was pretty flavorful but not overwhelming. + Guvec for Two (4/5) Really great presentation. I thought the soup was good but very limited and little hard to eat; this was more like potatoes and beef drenched in a little sauce. + Turkish Coffee Martini (3.5/5) I've had turkish coffee before and this just tasted like a normal espresso martini.
