Stopped here on a recommendation from a local after a day at the beach. Much nicer than we expected. Cool, comfortable seating, lots of big tvs, smelled good inside. We got the cod fish sandwich & side of mac & cheese, side salad & iced teas. Everything was delicious. Our waitress was very sweet & great service! Great new industrial look to an old outdated but loved tavern. The staff is very attentive and accommodating. Love the menu and all the options you can add to dishes. Still has lots of TV's for the sports fans..and last but definitely not least our food was delicious! The 1/4 chicken, dark meat with the $5 add on fried shrimp, coleslaw, Mac n cheese with cornbread was on the money! Rotisserie chicken is seasoned to perfection. Our first time here & we opted to sit outside on patio cause it was such a beautiful day. Service was great. Ordered the roasted beet & goat cheese salad with shrimp and a cheeseburger. The salad was pretty good but the dressing was very light, came with 5 grilled shrimp. Goat cheese was toasted & delicious. The cheeseburger was also delicious. I've been to anchor twice now & both times I was disappointed. The first time the service was so slow. Food was ok at best. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and came back to try it again, mistake on my part. The chicken was so dry. In no time, I got terrible food poisoning. I ordered a French onion soup and a chicken dish. This is my first ever review that's not positive. My experience: Everything overall, the service, the pace, the food, the experience was horrific. Yum! First time there and was impressed enough to want to go back. Had the coconut shrimp appetizer, which was tasty. I got the open faced sloppy joe beef brisket sandwich special...the brisket was cooked well and tasted "weller". My kid had the black bean burger and enjoyed it. I absolutely love everything about The Anchor Tavern. I'm originally from The Jersey Shore, but now live in far upstate NY. I first dined here in June with my sister. The chicken was to die for and I remember having several sides, but the Mac & Cheese really was classic comfort food. So, of course I'm down for Christmas & I told my sister we had to go again. She agreed and the two of us along with another sister went in for a late lunch. Again, it just blew me away. Best comfort food ever. I had the chicken wrap. Jennifer had the Cuban & Kathy had The Pork Roll, Egg & cheese burger. We all had a bit of all the combined entrees. We went during happy hour and had onion rings with a horseradish sauce for $5.00! I have been to this restaurant on numerous occasions. I've always had good meals. I really like that the sandwiches come with a choice of fries or a side salad. I love the chicken burger. I also like getting the quarter chicken white meat with two sides. I haven't had any of their appetizers and I'm not a huge fan of their desserts. My overall favorite, though, is their baja rice bowl with chicken that they sometimes have on the special menu. I enjoy sitting outside when the weather is nice, though sometimes the traffic is noisy. I go there on weeknights, so it isn't too noisy. read more

This place was recommend by a local, and it was a good spot for dinner. My fiance and I got there and were seated quickly outside. It was a nice evening, so it was really nice to chill out there for dinner. It definitely has that shore vibe to it's atmosphere. The beer list was a decent array of craft and national sections. I also am happy they have PBR in cans, but wish they were pounders. Our waitress was very nice and attentive toward us. The food was your basic bar fare, but was very good. I decided to get a pork roll sandwich since I am in northern part of Jersey. It was a very good sandwich with a good amount of cheese on it. I recently visited Belmar Beach, NJ on a day trip with my wife. After leaving the beach we decided to eat at Anchor Tavern. I was very impressed with the location, availability of parking, service, and the food! We started with the fried pickles and my wife ordered a chicken salad sandwhich; I have the Anchor BLT. We also had an Asbury Park IPA. Everything tasted great and we received top notch service from Samantha our server. Just before leaving we both went to the restrooms and the whole place is super clean. Highly recommended spot! read more

In the past, I would have given them a 4. We have been going here for NFL games and lunch/dinner for years (since they opened!). But within the past year, Anchor has unfortunately gone downhill. Our past few experiences have been quite poor. One night it took over an hour to get our food from the time we ordered (a medium burger and the quarter chicken dark meal). The issue seems to be with the kitchen. Since then, the kitchen frequently gives us incorrect orders. Last night, they delivered my husband's wrap with chipotle mayo when he asked for none (gallbladder issue) though the waitress had written it down when she took our order. His new wrap was made correctly but on one of the last bites the chicken was sour/rancid. He stopped eating immediately and didn't touch his fries after that. We alerted them and they did remove it from the bill, we paid and left. Luckily he hasn't gotten ill. But we won't be going back. We'll have to find a new place for NFL games, probably Bar A down the street. read more

Ive been there once before but for a short time. Yesterday we went for Happy Hr and sat outside with Erin as our bartender. She was so good at her job she made us feel right at home. Unfortunately it was a little cold so we ended up inside with Mailynn, another great bartender. The drinks were great & the apptzs were $5.00. Cant go wrong here. We will definitely be back. One suggestion: you need better music inside and outside. Thats the only thing missing during Happy Hr. and it really makes a difference to people out for the day looking for a fun place to hang out. read more

This place bills itself as a rotisserie place, but the salmon and chicken both needed more time on the spit to get crispier. Sides and burger were good. Service wasn't so hot. It took a long time to get food. Although we ordered a burger, no one brought ketchup. We asked twice, then I got it myself. They had a "free spin" offer on Yelp but when I tried to redeem it, they said they can't find the wheel anymore. You'd think with our undercooked dinner, they might have found a way to fulfill on a deal they advertised, but no. As I am writing this, the waitress stopped by to let us know the replacement chicken, which we are taking to go because everyone is done eating, would be on the house. Good move on their part. Great rehab of an old bar. They are concentrating on their rotisserie chicken, which is absolutely delicious. I believe they use cumin which is not gonna be for everyone. I ate there twice and both times the chicken was perfectly cooked. Now for the negatives which was pretty much everything. Of the 4 sides I've had none were worth retrying. I can't believe the gravy has been tested by anyone. It's watery and tasteless. I hope I can change my rating and they fix things read more

They had live music & when the first set was done, good tunes after. Popcorn to snack on while you wait. Our first time to the Anchor Tavern. Food and service really exceeded our expectations. Smart menu; terrific to see this place taking a different approach. We had a variety of dishes at our table -- rotisserie chicken wings, burgers, great side dishes, wraps and more.
