Went in @pizza on H Street today (labor day) and order pizza on kiosk. It was one manager and one employee( around 18yrs old) in the store. The manager left the store as I was completing my order. I waited 7 minutes and the young employee on his phone. So I figured I had to wait for the manager to come back before my pizza is made. The manager came back 3 minutes later and proceeded to sweeping the floor while talk to the young employee. After waiting for another 4 minutes, I approached the counter and said "Is someone going to make my pizza". The manager said she didn't know my pizza was not made and continued sweeping the floor. As I was waiting for one of them to make my pizza, I heard the young employee say" On buck he will get fucked up today. I can make one phone call and his life is done." Now as I'm scrolling through my phone, listening to this, I wasn't sure of he was addressing me. But than I heard the manager say "All he had to do was have a little respect. They thing because we have on uniforms, we are sucker". At that moment, three young guys enter the store loudly saying "We hear and went straight in the back to the young employee giving him high fives. Now I was the only person in the store besides the manager, young employee, and three of the young employees friends. Now know one has made my and I felt my life could be in danger at this point. So I left without my pizza. I went to the other @Pizza on 8th near Eastern Market, explained to the Manager, Anthony what happened at H Street location and he give me a pizza. Also, he said the @Pizza H st location is not under the corporation and is franchise. However, he took my contact information and said he would pass it on to the liason on that store. I chose not to call the police because I didn't want to see another young black youth in the system. I ultimately figure out they they were prioritizing mobile orders but it would have been nice if they were communicative about it. Speaking of communication, the music was too loud for us to hear the tribe member and vice versa. That is a bummer since my husband and I were both ordering custom pizzas. If I could give a 6*, I would. My wife and I happened upon &Pizza on a annual business trip about 8 years ago. It was next to a school for the deaf, so the atmosphere was different, but pleasant. It was the greatest experience with food we've ever had. The following year we took about 20 of our business friends with us. They were all blown away. 8 years later, we gathered about 20,000 people in Baltimore, MD. On the flight back, 2 planes full of our people, roughly 400 from the greater San Jose area. And most visited &Pizza at least once. Their were close to 20 on the plane being brought back. For $8.86 you get one flatbread style pizza that is enough to feed one hungry person, two semi famished people, or an Asian family of four. From what I have sampled, my favorite pizza combinations include: Maverick: In Pizza Hut terms this would be called a Meat Lovers pizza because it is chock full o' animal goodness. Perfectly yummy and the meat flavor is not overwhelming at all. Moonstruck - They had me at mushroom truffle and then they completely baited me with the fig marsala and roasted chili oil. Sweet, spicy and savory all at the same time. They also have a dessert pizza with strawberries, nutella, and sweet ricotta on it but it is not for the faint of heart. It is absolute decadence. The girls behind the counter had me cracking up the entire time- mainly because of how they were kicking out homeless people left and right but also when I ordered. I love that they have craft soda. The idea for this place is pretty good, but the pizza is just not that great. You can pick from some suggestions for pies, or you can create your own, from the type of dough, cheese and sauce, to the toppings and additional garnishes. The style of pizza is a very thin crust, which it needs to be, because they quickly place it right in a little conveyor belt oven right after assembling it, and it cooks in the very short amount of time it takes to pass through to the other side. This is nice for impatient people like me that always like getting their food right away, but in this case, I would be willing to wait the extra time for a better pizza. I am shocked to see such high reviews. I'm wondering if maybe a lot of them are from people that eat here after a late night of drinking, because pizza that's assembled and cooked in a few minutes the way it is here just couldn't possibly be nearly as good as a properly cooked pizza. And it isn't. It also happened to be oppressively hot in here when I came. I was already sweating by the time my pizza was ready, which was not very pleasant. This is a good option if you are enduring the standard two hour wait at Toki Underground down the street and are desperate for a snack and a way to kill time. How it works is that you stand in line, order your pizza (customize ANY of their creations.. add/delete toppings for free) , wait for the pizza to come out of the rolling oven, then wait for the expediting guy to add your favvvv yummy toppings and then pay up. This H Street &pizza is the first of all the &pizzas, so it was pretty exciting to check this place out! The place itself is a little small, but still have some tables for you to enjoy your created pies. I was able to try their seasonal Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza (that is only available until Labor Day), which I totally fell in love with! This place was able to make that pizza on POINT, with the delicious grilled hamburger patties, topped with a lovely romesco sauce, cheddar cheese, cherry tomatoes, shredded lettuce, sliced red onions, and sliced pickles. It was juicy, saucy, and overall, a great ratio of all the ingredients! The staff here were super friendly, and I really liked the black & white photographs on the wall, as well as the big '&' graffit in the front by a local artist. I wrote a long review for the E street location, which I will not reprint for every one of these places. In short, it's a very efficient assembly line, with very wide and inclusive menu choices for toppings, you can pay through their app. And it's delicious. Of their housemade sodas, pear/fig is the big winner. On pizzas, spicy chickpeas are great. This location had a bit more of a neighborhood vibe than E street (which is not really a neighborhood, more of a concrete jungle over there); people seemed like they knew each other. There was not much seating, and nothing set up outdoors. They seemingly give everyone a pizza box, whereas at E street they asked if you wanted it to go and just put it on a tray if you didn't; their boxes look cool and all that but I felt it was wasteful to give me one when I ate my pizza right there. The people were nice, but they did seem awfully intent on asking me if I wanted more toppings on my pizza. Am I too skinny or something, that I look like I might starve? It's not like more toppings cost more or make them more money, and I had several already. Weird. Finally, the H street locale is harder to get to from the Metro than most of their other locations. I had the honor of going to the &tour!! The &tour is a time where I had the privilege of meeting the &Pizza employees and cofounder. We loaded a party bus and went to three different &pizza locations. We had beer and wine at each location and even on the party bus. I cannot rave enough about this brand. They really embrace a sense of community and the people in the community. I found out that this spot was their first &pizza location. Unlimited toppings, fresh ingredients, delicious sauce options and homemade cheese makes this place a pizza staple. I've been to almost each of their store locations. They truly do a great job making each location unique yet still making each location unison. Each location is tied together because each store follows a very urban and black/white color pallet. We went for all veggie "Backyard Garden" with a whole grain crust. The garlic paste used as base was yummy! Did not realize they had arugula listed in that toppings mix. Don't think salad and pizza toppings mix that well - but that's our fault! As I said, it's 100% customizable. No fancy ovens here. A larger version of cafeteria toaster oven - I would say - does all the baking. The thing is quick and gets the job done for the price and wait you are willing to endure. For the price we paid, we got good food. I was hugely intrigued when we came here for an early dinner and found a line out the door (the boyfriend had already highly recommended this pizza place after coming here with a friend).
