We've been coming here for over 5 years and given it a 5 star for all those years, plus recommended many more times. I really hate to drop it but the service from arrival to getting the check was so subpar this visit. When we arrived maybe 4 tables were occupied so they were not overwhelmed (by the time we left it was a packed house.) I'm guessing the tone of the rudeness was in reaction to us bringing our child, but that's so unfortunate because he's very well behaved (and did great at Geronimo the night before). The Parmesan chicken is my favorite - if you're hungry get the extra piece of chicken they really aren't that big. The profiteroles have always been excellent - we didn't even make it to dessert this go but I'd still recommend trying them. read more

Yesterday was our 40th wedding anniversary. We ordered the Chicken Piccata dish and the Pots de Creme for dessert. My husband picked it up and it was all prepared and ready to go - no wait! We did heat the entree in the oven for a few minutes when my husband arrived home since we live 20 minutes outside of town. The meal was absolutely scrumptious! The chicken was so tender, savory and flavorful. Even the mashed potatoes and sautéed local greens were fabulous. The Pots de Creme was a perfect and delicious finish to such an excellent and impeccably prepared meal. What might turn out to be an odd review for a very odd place, it's hard to even choose a star rating. It's a good thing that it just doesn't matter that much. Andiamo is one of the least interesting and least appealing restaurants we have ever visited. That being said, the food was great! The inside of the restaurant is too warm and has an odd smell, especially when you're thinking about eating inside. Luckily we were led to the outside which is a very odd side of the building that makes one feels they are getting ready to eat dinner under an awning of an old hardware store or a cat yoga where they might read some tarot cards. After sitting down, it took 24 minutes to get our wine delivered. Again, the wine was fine and the salads were fantastic. Another 30 minutes went by before our main course came, which is annoying to say the least. We were beginning to discuss whether we should leave when they brought our food. While sitting on the side of the building for over an hour, the surprise was that once again, the food was great! The menu is extremely limited but good. While they are really into lamb for sure, we choose the grilled trout and chicken piccata of which again, both were fantastic. Back to the odd review statement... It seems that Andiamo might be the perfect place for a take out order as the food is a 10 on the 1 to 10 scale, but the experience of dining in, was a 2 on the 1 to 10 scale. Put those together and you can pick your rating between maybe a 5 and a 7. On the other hand, if you are looking for a place that is basically full of college professor types or want-to-be intellectual types, then it may be totally impossible to find a better spot than this. Think of a bunch of teachers sitting around Chez Panisse trying to impress each other with how many books they read, how smart they think they are, yet not once has ever met a payroll or built a business that contributes to society and...... you've hit a bullseye. I will forever remember this restaurant because the experience was absolutely amazing. When we got to Santa Fe my family and I did not want to eat at the hotel. We decided to go to one of the places Google was recommending to us near by. Only issue was a lot of the places were already closing. We were a little bummed out because we had to can our first three choices because there was no way we were showing up 30 minutes before closing time. We eventually found Andiamo and decided to check it out. Italian sounded great not exciting at the time but basically the only option besides fast food and that was not happening. Let me tell you I was so happy we came here. Upon entering through the door my family and I walked through a curtain and we were inside the restaurant. We stood there for a little bit because we were unsure if we needed to wait to be seated or we just found out own seat. There was not a sign in place to tell you to do either. After about close to 5 minutes we decided to just sit down. This bothered me a little because the staff did see us but did not say anything. This could be detrimental to future customers, and I am not sure if it was a diversity thing. My mom is Hispanic, my brother black, and I am Arabic and upon entering we stood out like crazy and in some places I have been to that usually aligns we the service you receive. We sat down and after a few minutes we were greeted by our waiter who took our drink orders. My mother ordered a glass of wine, really do not remember the name, I had a IPA which I found to bitter for my tastes, and my brother had a water. My mother ordered the Kyser Pork Tenderloin, my brother the Spaghetti Bolognese, and I had the Mushroom Pizza. My mother said her meal was delicious. The sauce stood out the most, the mash potatoes felt as if he she was eating a pie so smooth creamy and cut like a pie. She also never eats spinach but the way they did it she could not stop. My brother found his spaghetti to be delcious as well and the highlight was the tomato sauce and perfect amount/blend of basil. Now while their meals were delicious everyone was jealous of my mushroom pizza. The second this dish came out it was perfection. I am telling you the second it was placed in front of me I fell in love. Every bite was absolutely perfection. The tomato sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, fontana and pesto just absolutely melted in my mouth. The grilled zucchini and protabello mushrooms were the perfect toppings to this pizza as they added so much flavor. This was by far one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten in my life. I am a lover of pizza and by God I highly recommend you try this dish. Besides the experience when we arrived I happily give this place 5 stars because the food and our waiter made up for it. read more

We had New Mexican style food for lunch and needed a change up for the evening, which led us to scanning the local Italian options. I chose Andiamo based on their menu options and proximity to downtown where we spent some time at a rooftop bar watching the sunset prior to dinner. Their website easily linked us to make a reservation through open table, which definitely helped, because when we arrived at 730pm there was about 10 people waiting as walk-ins. The hostess was very friendly and offered water or wine options to everyone waiting, and equally welcoming were the delicious smells that greeted you upon entry. Once sat, our server immediately greeted us, brought us drinks and bread, and then let us peruse the menu options for a while. He apologized for the wait, as you could see they were busy, and we went right for our order of Caesar salad, chicken parmesan, and the truffle and portobella fettuccine. Everything tasted delicious and homemade, even the salad dressing, we left satisfied and with a bit of leftovers. One regret we have is not ordering dessert- the table next to us had their signature profiteroles aka puff pastries covered in chocolate, and it looked great. I used to really enjoy this restaurant. There has been a change in the quality of food . A month ago I ordered calamari appetizer. It was so overcooked it was close to inedible. We went back again tonight. I ordered the rigatoni with pancetta and peas. The pancetta was very overdone and tough.It was almost like eating Jerky. The sauce was very bland, lacking any seasoning. Had a horrible experience eating here. Never again. We were shown to an outside area where a raccoon ran towards us when our appetizers arrived. It ran up the tree (next to us) and was probable waiting for our main course. We told the unfriendly hostess Stephanie and she took a quick look and said "it ran away" and "it's gone now." We told her that we see it hiding in the tree and she tried to convince us to stay on the outside table seating as the raccoon wasn't there anymore. This was unacceptable and we did not receive one apology for our ruined dining experience until we told the head waiter Juan that the customer service was bad. We ended up moving to a table inside as we were all still very hungry and knew the main course would come out soon. The food was mediocre and not worth the traumatic experience. Service was unfriendly and I feel that it may have be because we were the only patrons that were not white. I wouldn't eat here again and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

OMG, worst ever. Clearly, last night, Saturday, Andiamo was having a very bad night. That can happen. Horrible customer service that compounds the kitchen disaster is completely unacceptable. I just got a call (Sunday) from an employee with an attitude (I know the difference between accent and attitude) asking about my cancelling my reservation tonight. I'm hitting about 50% on good meals here - they seem to be all over the board. But our last visit may have done it for me. Server was pleasant enough, but the service itself was pretty bad. Ordered Prosecco to start. Our starters, which were ordered after the drinks, got to the table before the Prosecco. Had to ask after the Prosecco. Prosecco came, but no glasses. By the time the glasses came and the Prosecco was opened and poured, the appetizers were history. Not trying to sound entitled, but in a nice place like this, it should go water, drinks, food, right? My food (spaghetti with garlic and shrimp) was too salty to eat. Way too salty. Way, way too salty. I'm not a food sender-backer and it was a friend's birthday. So I simply didn't eat it. I mentioned the extreme saltiness quietly to the server when he was clearing plates. He did not care in the least. I believe his words were, "yeah, ok." More of a 3.5. As much as we enjoyed New Mexican fare, we wanted to change things up. We didn't find many options, but luckily Andiamo! came on our radar for Saturday evening. It was about an hour before close and the place was still lively, and we definitely closed the place down, but we weren't rushed. Our main server definitely looked like he was out of it and was done for the day, which I think was physically the case, as he disappeared at the end and didn't really check on us. It probably was an off day, as he forgot our refill on bread, but remembered the second he went by our table. However, the rest of the staff were much more attentive and friendly, especially the lady hostess. No parm for the complimentary bread, but the evoo was good. I went with the small spicy penne with lamb sausage. Maybe I'm used to bougie small portions in Chicago, but I was delighted to see that the small was very satisfying and definitely enough for one person. The sausage was very good, but the sauce was okay - could have been a little thicker. Friend's mushroom pizza was solid. We also got a bottle of their Cab, which was decent for the price. We walked over from our hotel ( Hacienda Santa Fe ) to pick up some takeout. Everything was delicious- we got the fettuccini Alfredo with shrimp, spaghetti with marinara, and the vegetarian mushroom pasta. Got a couple of salads to split, and s ome bread and butter. Having lived in New York City for over 17 years and eating Italian food twice a week and now eating Italian food in Tucson for over 23 years and traveling to Italy over 13 times in my life, this was the worst Italian food I have ever had. We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation and had to wait 1 hour for our table. The hostess was maybe 19 years old, tremendously inexperienced, very unfriendly and also was doubling as a bus boy. We asked to speak with the manager and were told there is no manager and "everyone chips in" but he owner lives in Texas. When we finally sat, we ordered a bottle of wine and sparking water and when our waitress brought our sparkling water, our waitress knocked the bottle of wine all over our daughter. We had to clean her in the restroom but Gisselle, the hostess and Antonio, the pretend manager, didn't offer any compensation whatsoever. We could not believe this and 3 other tables came over to us and expressed their dismay with their response to us. When our food came we tried to have an open mind but the food was terrible. My spaghetti bolognese was clumped together and the sauce was actually room temperature. My wife ordered linguini with clam sauce and there was an excessive amount of garlic and the noodles were way over cooked. She ate about five bites. Our daughter had the mushroom ravioli and it was so bad she took one bite and left the rest and just ate some bread. At this point, we just decided to leave the restaurant. When we left no one offered any apology for the food or spilling the bottle of wine. They did not even offer to pay for the dry cleaning of my daughter's dress. This was the very worst Italian food we have ever had, the service was terrible and the ambiance is that you have these small hard wooden chairs that are very uncomfortable and tables that are all crammed into a very small place with little room to move. We talked to four other patrons and they all said they had an awful experience as well and would never come back. This restaurant will not last through 2018. Go to Osteria D'Assisi, 100 times better and very professional staff opposed to a bunch of kids running the place. read more

Let me start by saying I used to love to visit this restaurant for special occasions. Our latest visit was several weeks ago for our anniversary and was so disappointing. We are locals, native Santa Feans and proud Hispanics. Additionally, we were probably one of the only two locals dining at this establishment. Our waitress was very attentive to all others but us. Example: all other tables received bread...we had to ask and wait. All other tables received drinks in a decent amount of time...again we had to wait. And here's the doozy, we ordered our dessert and had to watch the table next to us order AND eat their dessert!! We never received our dessert and had to ask for it to be removed from our bill. So sad and disappointing. We will not be going back, sadly. Food is delicious! I just want to be treated the same as all other patrons. read more

I really hate when I have such a disappointing experience that I'm compelled to review because, having had 15 years in the restaurant industry, I understand that we all have bad nights. But I was so disappointed with my experience at this usually heart-warming old standby that I can't let it go because I don't believe it was a bad night - it was simply the service. I dined at Andiamo for the first time in many years and while the food itself was good (linguini with clams on special and spaghetti aglio e olio with shrimp), the service was downright painful. Our server essentially ignored us from the get go to the point of neglect, with the exception of two abrupt approaches to our table to first say, "Hi, do you know what you want," before asking if we wanted anything to drink or asking if we had questions; and second to say (not ask), "everything is fine," and then wandering off to his busy section. Our check was placed by someone other than our server and after we continued to talk for another 10 minutes or so, we were brought two more checks by someone else who said, "they said you wanted your check split." First, we hadn't asked for our check to be split; second, it was actually split incorrectly; and third, we wanted to order coffee. Anyway, when I get bad service, my response is usually to leave 18% instead of 20-25%. We left 15% which was an uncomfortable thing to do, and also totally more than we should have left. The locals in Santa Fe will tell you that bad restaurants will not last long there. Andiamo will be around Santa Fe for some time to come. This is a warm and inviting Italian restaurant just outside of Santa Fe square area. The wait staff were very pleasant and seated us right away for our 830 reservation. My wife and I found the menu had a variety of appealing items. I ordered a puréed bell pepper soup which was somewhat spicy and very delicious and my wife ordered a mixed arugula salad with apple, walnuts, blue cheese, and a lemon dressing. We then split the Penne with spicy lamb meatballs. This pasta had a delicious red spicy cream sauce. These delicious dishes really hit the spot on this cool night. My wife and enjoyed this meal and we both agreed we wish we this restaurant was located near us and we both agreed that we will return here again. The staff here were very attentive and truly worked as a team to ensure your needs were met. My only knock would be it took a little longer than I would than I wanted. Overall a very delicious meal in a bright, comfortable,!inviting restaurant. Check it out I think you will enjoy it. read more

This place was a bit pricey for the amount of food received. I dine at five star restaurants frequently. I have never been to an Italian restaurant before, that did not offer Veal Parmesan. They did have veal on the menu, however it was Veal Marsala. I asked the waiter if I could substitute veal for the chicken, and was told no??? Okay, whatevs... It was Restaurant Week the night we dined there. So my girlfriend ordered their Restaurant Week special of a three course meal. However, when it came time to select her dessert, she was given only one of the three options! Frozen, Italian ice with a scoop of ice cream. We both were disappointed and kind of expected better. As, we both had our hearts set on trying their tiramisu, or another mocha fudge cake option. How can Italian ice be your only available dessert option during Restaurant Week??? The meal was the best we had in our prior two weeks of travel. Delicious lamb meatballs with pasta! We'd been given the name of the restaurant by a friend of a friend - food was fantastic. It's quite small, so you need a reservation. We'd been on the road, so had a late reservation. We didn't get a very warm welcome at the door, and it took the server a bit to warm up to us. They also "ran out" of bread, but toward the end of the meal they "found" some. Food was average and a bit overpriced for the potions, but that would've been ok had the quality been a bit better. Andiamo is my favorite Santa Fe restaurant! I just returned from three weeks in Tuscany and was longing for some good Italian food, so we went to Andiamo for dinner. We weren't disappointed. We started with an antipasto plate and a prosciutto and endive plate to share between the three of us. Delicious prosciutto! We then proceeded to our main courses, three-cheese ravioli for me, rigatoni with spicy lamb meatballs for my husband, and pasta with seasonal mushrooms for our guest. All delicious and perfectly cooked. Dessert followed with tiramisu, panna cotta, and profiteroles--all yummy. I was transported back to Italy by this meal. Our entire experience, from start to finish, was fantastic! We had reservations, so there was no wait and were seated promptly. Our server was friendly and kind, we never felt pressured or rushed. My husband isn't a wine drinker, so I usually just order by the glass. They don't have a ton of options for this, but enough for most to be satisfied. Our table was in a dark crowded space it was very unforgettable with a vent blowing very cold air beneath our table. We waited for service after we were seated for at least 20 min. When the server finally arrived she was not very friendly, she did not introduce herself, brought us the wrong bottle of wine and that took another 15 min. Last night 6 of us went to eat dinner here. We got here about 7:20. I think we finally got our food at 9:30. We waited forever and actually were the only ones left in the restaurant. We had wine by the glass, each trying something different and we all liked the wine. They brought bread to the table with olive oil. The bread was cold but was good chewy bread. Olive oil was provided and this was a little tasteless in my opinion. I ordered the Mushroom linguine which was supposed to have fried artichokes, tomatoes, spinach,truffle oil, and Parmesan. I asked before I ordered it about the sauce and the waiter said it was more like oil. I said great, that's what I want. It came with noodles floating in a mushroom broth with a few mushrooms and onions in it. There were no artichokes or anything else for that matter. And, after waiting all that time, I didn't want to make a fuss and bother anyone else. But, also, the waiter never asked if all was ok. Very disappointed. read more

Tonight's dinner at Andiamo! exemplified waitstaff & kitchen disinterest in serving customers. The experience started off badly -- I walked into the restaurant at about 5:20 pm. It was empty except for 2 tables that had been seated. I waited 15 minutes with no host/hostess in sight & was about to literally call the restaurant on the phone to say "hey, I'm at the host station but no one is here" when a waitress appeared with food for one of the tables. I expected she would deliver the food & then come over to the host stand & greet me. Instead, she started heading back to the kitchen, totally ignoring me, until I said "excuse me!" --no response -- then "excuse me" louder. She turned & said "you are waiting for a takeout order, right, it will be out shortly," to which I replied "no, I'm here to eat dinner." At that point, she grabbed a menu & seated me. No "sorry to keep you waiting" or any such apology. Further frustrating me, no waiter or waitress appeared right away to take my order. In fact, another 5 minutes passed & I was about to get up & leave when a waiter finally appeared. He took my order (calamari & a pasta dish as my main course) and made sure to try to sell me Pellegrino by not even offering tap water (would you like water? I can get you a bottle of Pellegrino"). Annoying! Shortly thereafter, my calamari arrived. I have eaten Andiamo!'s calamari many times & it has been delicious. This time, it was super rubbery, not hot & the breading was falling off. Disgusting! I sent it back & all the waiter could say was "the chef said he won't charge you for it." As if there was even a question about not charging me! At least the pasta course was up to Andiamo!'s usual standards. It was very good. But again the waiter got in the way of my enjoyment by coming over when I had momentarily put my fork down to ask -- "should I get you a small box?" At first, I wasn't sure what he was asking. But then, realizing what it was, I said "no, I'm still eating." That would have been clear to anyone. Totally inappropriate to interrupt my meal to ask that question. So all-in-all, Andiamo! needs a refresher in customer service, not to mention an assessment of what went wrong with the calamari. Not likely I will be back to eat at Andiamo! anytime soon, which is unfortunate as I am a local who eats out often and frequently entertains out-of-town guests at local restaurants. read more

If you analyze my posts, you will quickly realize that Andiamo! is not my typical review. I like to eat at the diamond-in-the-rough sort of places. Andiamo! is quaintly located on a side street with ample parking which is always a plus in Santa Fe. The restaurant is in a house and has very simple -- but elegant -- interiors. This is definitely white table cloth service but in a casual setting. To me, the menu appeared beverage heavy and light on food. There was a specials menu (avg. price $25) and a regular menu (avg. price $14). We ordered from the regular menu; appetizers, main dishes, and deserts for two adults and one child. The total bill came to ~$84. We started out with the flash fried calamari which was perfectly cooked. Normally my wife (who disdains anything fried) would let me have the bulk of the fried apetizer, but this time I cought her filching my share of the calamari. Clearly a sign of a calamari superiori (I know that really doesn't translate, but just go with me here.....) I had the Pasta Bolognese which -- admittedly -- was everything a Bolognese sauce is supposed to be. It was categorically the best pasta dish I have ever eaten. She who must be obeyed ordered a grilled fish fillet perched on top of grilled polenta, which I was generously allowed to sample. How come my polenta never turns out that good? The boy had spaghetti with butter and a grilled chicken breast. All told, a fantastic meal. For desert, I can attest that the Tiramisu was elegant and the crushed hazlenuts on top were a perfect twist. The wife had the profiteroles which, although interesting, seem a distant second place to some of the other items on the desert menu. On leaving, the wife and I decided to ditch our regular Italian place (which is good in its own right) and eat more often at Andiamo! One interesting note however: on leaving, we noticed that we were the youngest couple in the restaurant. I am 55 and she is 56. Curious, but when you dine with seniors you tend to notice that they take nothing for granted. read more
