The only issue we had was not finding out they were CASH ONLY until I went to pay with my credit card. Not being from the area and not seeing any signs that stated CASH ONLY we had no way of knowing. Let me start by saying that customer service was great! Came here with my family on a Friday night, it was congested but was seated within 10 minutes. This place is about as close to old school diner that I have found. The ice-cream here is delicious and I believe they make it here. Andy's has been around for a long time in winter haven. The food is still delivered to your table in a basket so when you order a basket it's actually a basket. The food here is always fresh and delicious. Bring cash though I'm not sure if they take a card yet. When you finish your meal make sure to try a cone of some delicious ice cream, if you have room. Lots of nostalgia and good prices. read more

Ate there around 2 PM today. My wife order grilled chicken which she though was good . I had fried chicken basket which was fair to middlen . A ton of crinkly fries and a small amount of chicken with a lot of batter. It was a fair meal except for one of the employees sweeping right next to us and stirring up dust in our food. My wife told the young lady that but she kept on sweeping. So anyway, I went to pay and they don't take credit cards. Big surprise at a restaurant in 2021 but luckily I had enough cash. No 6 ft distance , it was packed snd tables are together, some men sit behind me and the tables are so close his head about touched mine, I was so scared and uncomfortable that I couldn't finish my meal , it was like a concert shoulder to shoulder, shame cause I always liked the place, no outside tables so stand outside and eat or in your car? Really sad to say but service for the first time in years was so bad that we have decided we will not come back. My order and my fiancé order was incorrect and when we said something to the girl delivering it to our table she said, well that's what the ticket says. We just looked at each other and said fine. I also didn't get the drink I ordered. The server that waited on us never even came back to our table after we placed the order. Once we ate we were going to get ice cream but nobody every came out to ask us. When we got up to leave all of the servers were sitting down at the bar but one, and they were all just talking to each other. How cool was this place! They just don't exist anymore, fast, home made, simple and very friendly staff. If you're looking to be transported back in time to the days when you could pull your car up and get a burger and a shake this is the place, the kids will love it. The ice cream is outstanding. I expressed my concern for their lack of hospitality when an employee "greeted" me with a -"it's gonna be a minute..." and then proceeded to shut the window in my face before I could respond. I would love to give this place another star because they get it. My issues could be freakiest my coffee was cold and the refill was cold I had the full order of biscuits and gravy it was cold maybe Luke warm my girlfriend had a normal breakfast ham eggs, hash browns and biscuit it was awesome. But I really feel we fell into a time warp the fricking prices (see photos of menu) we both ate for $11.00 and were very happy. Their outdoor ice cream stand is a good place to get a quick shake or frozen treat. Cheap prices and a retro feel with a steady trickle of customers, even later on a weekday night. I loved the sign and the indoors looked cozy. Contrary to popular opinion, my shake left something to be desired. It tasted like watery yet chunky milk. The banana split was better. I usually only come for ice cream or a shake. I ordered the 2 egg breakfast with biscuits and sausage patties. The food was OK. What bothered me about this visit was that I called in my order and when I came to pick up my food I waited for 10 minutes even though there wasn't anyone else at the window and they were not slammed. Several workers saw me and did not acknowledge me. Maybe my standards are too high. I give the ice cream and shakes 3 stars. My service today gets 0 stars. The food gets 2 stars. read more

The burgers had excellent flavor, hot dogs were great, the coleslaw was creamy and sweet, and the fried pickles were perfectly done (not mushy or greasy at all). The milkshakes are awesome and delicious. The cheeseburger was pretty good, tasted fresh. I also had some thing called a crab roll and it was pretty disgusting. Also it was not cooked all the way, the center was frozen. Had their mac & cheese and it tasted like it was out of a box...okay but did not taste like what I would have expected from a Southern restaurant. Unfortunately, service at the takeout window was disorganized and slow. My order sat on the counter for 15 minutes and it was sort of cold by the time I got it. The "loaded nachos" are definitely NOT loaded! There is a sign behind the cash register advertising LOADED NACHOS! I ask one of the servers to describe the loaded nachos for me. She described a full meal and stated that the nachos came with grilled chicken. Great! Sold! I put the order with my server who was not the server I originally asked. Do not order the LOADED NACHOS! nachos all around the world would be highly disappointed and embarrassed of what came out of Andy's kitchen. A five year kid can make better NACHOS with ingredients available at 7Eleven, WAWA, or Raceway! They did not come out with grilled chicken. It had watered down cheese and chilli bean sauce and big chunks of tomatoes, i asked to hold the lettuce. At the cash register, paying the tab and the cashier lady asks .... "How was everything?" I clearly expressed my dissatisfaction for the loaded nachos, and suggested they rebrand the item to something simple like chips and cheese. She looks over to the sign and simply states, "well, that's our version of the loaded LOADED NACHOS." CONSIDER THIS YOUR WARNING! DO NOT ORDER THE NACHOS! Old time drive in, with a walk up window and rough benches overlooking the parking spaces & two overflowing dumpsters. Perfect school kid hang out. During our weekend visit, it didn't look like we were displacing any kids. But I'll bet you anything you might need that the kids are here after school. On a tip from a local high-schooler, we ordered the tangerine colored sherbet. It was served in a cup. Literally, a cup. As in plastic water cup. The clerk was a bit evasive when asked if actual, real local citrus is used in the sherbets and ice creams. The answer was good, though. "That's a secret part of the recipes." There are lots of ice cream flavors and concoctions. The perennial kid fave is offered: the "Superman", made of red, white & blue colored ice creams. The "Garbage Dump" description told of a splendid array of broken up candies, mixed into the base vanilla ice cream. Also, I loved the vintage signage, and the banner announcing the Cleveland Indians' presence in nearby baseball practice fields. read more

Stopped by Andy's around midnight while passing through town, and ordered at the walk-up window. Even after walking up to the window, the two girls inside ignored us for several minutes. Not great service. Then once we ordered, they told us half the ingredients we asked for had already been put in the refrigerator, so we had to choose something else. I ended up with a strawberry milkshake that was wonderful! The only reason for three stars. I'm sure the other items are great, just don't expect them at midnight! read more

Kick ass cheap diner food & great burgers... Some of the most polite and pleasant staff I've ever encountered - I was there with my 2 year old and one of the waitresses took such great care of him that he cried when we were leaving! Andy's is an institution in Winter Haven. Since 1951, Andy's has been serving fantastic shakes, sundaes, ice cream and all of that. Great stuff. Now, add a menu full of breakfast, burgers, sandwiches and dinner entrees (liver and onions, fish, etc) Take a step back in time and enjoy the turquoise diner booths, good old fashioned good service and great prices. All in all, a very pleasant experience. Hubby and I had burgers: One was a basket with fries and delicious cole slaw, one was just the super burger-we shared plenty of fries) and we each had a delicious milkshake (of course). Absolutely nothing is fresh here. It's very obvious. But yet somehow the food is still decent tasting. Huge menu with lots of options at a very cheap price. I only use the word "cheap" because like I said, it's not at all fresh. Staff are friendly enough. Service is decent. Nothing spectacular.
