Beware of the HOSTESS-there is a young lady with no personality-making the environment hostile. (BRI) when guest come to this restaurant please try to be more sensitive and welcoming...your words of choice may be hurting the venue...from a business perspective when you have approximately 12 people waiting prior to opening hours on a Sunday and YOU tell them they need reservations in order to be seated...this is by far the most invalid business move...I'm sure mangentment would LOVE to hear this...you told a group of guest before 11am (on a Sunday) that they need to wait 30 to 40 min until the parties that reserved show up that way of doing things will only push guest who are already present to go elsewhere...its a horrible business tactic...you're hurting the potential profits of that day... read more

A yummy little gem that is kind of hidden by the boutique hotel it is attached to. The restaurant itself is really well decorated and the vibe is very friendly. The service was very attentive and did a good job of informing us about the menu. My table split the guava French toast. I am not a big sweets person, but this was def. a well balanced dish. The syrup that the French Toast came on, could have been too sweet, but alas it was not. The toast was fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. I got the chilaquiles with pork belly. Can I just say, this chef knows how to get down! The sauce was flavorful but not overpowering. They didn't over-sauce the dish which is key to good chilaquiles. Couple that with the perfectly cooked and seasoned pork belly, and you have a really well executed dish. All-in-all, I would def. visit this place again if I am ever in that part of Orange County. This is the newer location to the original and more popular hole in the wall on Main St. Parking is way better here, but still fills up quickly around the restaurant due to the hotel that's attached. Dinner and cocktail menu is constantly changing and which always lets us try some new and interesting creation. Calamari - Best starter on the menu. Sprinkled with lemon and some spice. Already delicious even before using the accompanying sauce. Lamb - Slow cooked, soft and tender. Not really into gamey meat, but if you are, this will probably be tasty. Pork Belly - A little chewy, probably sliced too thick and cooked too quickly. The corn puree or whatever on the side is great, unfortunately there's only 1 oz of it. read more

I was looking in the area for Mexican cuisine restaurants. As soon as I saw this place in yelp, I knew I wanted to try it and I did. I made a reservation, i guess it's a must if you don't want to wait. Mostly because it's kinda small, understood. The host was very nice and we got seated right away. The menu was simple to read through, a lot of options. We decided to go for the most popular items in the menu and we ordered chilaquiles with carne asada. We also ordered appetizer and drinks. I did like the drinks but my main dish was a total disappointment. The chilaquiles was too dry. Not enough sauce. And i only got 5 small bites of carne asada. Too pricey for what you get. read more

Wasn't the biggest fan of this place. I didn't know that it was connected to a hotel. It would be nice to go to if I was staying at the hotel but I wouldn't want to make a special trip here if I wasn't at the hotel. The drinks were good but I ordered chili relleno and did not enjoy it. I came with a party of 8 and my food was cold when it came to the table and we were seated right next to the front entrance which wasn't ideal. read more

What a gem! I was so surprised by how flavorful the food was here and the drinks were great! I preferred the appetizers over my entree though, hence the 4 stars and not 5. We ordered the esquites and tamale which were both delicious! The guacamole is mediocre and not something I'd order again. I had the fish of the day which was barramundi. It was okay, but I was much more impressed with the appetizers than the fish. My husband had the short ribs which he loved. My daughter had a kids quesadilla which she didn't care for. Service is okay. Our server was great but the hostess or manager (I'm not sure which she was) wasn't very welcoming. read more

I had such a wonderful time at this restaurant. My friends, husband, and I truly enjoyed eating here. It is inside a hotel, so we missed it the first time (thinking GPS was taking us to a wrong place) and ended up at the original Anepalco. Once we found our way back it was all relaxing and enjoyable. Everything we ate was delicious! My friend and her husband ordered everything for us since we were visiting from Philadelphia. We have Mexican food, but not to this level. Everything we ate was very clean tasting, flavourful, beautifully presented, and plentiful. The service was exceptional! Everyone was very attentive, answered all the questions, made great recommendations for cocktails, and very friendly. As I said I enjoyed everything I ate and drink, but my all time favourite Fried Calamari, Chilaquiles with steaks, El Diablo (cocktail), and Corn cheesecake. I highly recommend this restaurant! It is Mexican food with a modern twist and its absolutely delicious. Reservations are your best bet, you can book the same day with no problem. I came in with four people and we shared almost everything, the guacamole and ceviche is so tasty and fresh! I tried the quesadilla, the tortillas are handmade with blue and yellow corn and carne asada. It is my favorite dish on the menu now! Drinks are hand crafted with fresh garnishes try the "fiesta"! And for desert horchata French toast this place is a hidden gem! I would definitely suggest it to family and friends! read more

Been here once before the pandemic and it was all good. However this time it was one of my worse dining expectations and that's saying a lot. Med rare meat well done. Shrimp charred so back it wouldn't even come off the shell. Shrimp also had a very back smell to it not fresh at call. So I sent it back and of course it came out after the rest of our party had finished eating. Then the hostess can over and if I was done I said no there was still half a plate. She then tried to take it and for som reason thought I was kidding. Wow clueless, bad service, low quality food and poorly prepared. I won't be back. read more

This was probably one of my favorite restaurants, coming in at least once every one to two weeks. I absolutely love their modern Mexican chains menu and their drinks are absolutely delicious. However, the last three times I have came, I feel like service has been dwindling downhill. 3 visits ago, i ordered enchiladas and a bowl of rice on the side. Unfortunately, I found BONE in my enchiladas which I had put at the edge of my rice bowl. I told the waiter there was bone and showed him. He ended up taking my rice plate away and didn't bother to bring back my rice. Nor could I finish the food. I did not order anything else because I didn't want to spend an additional 20 minutes to receive my food. They didn't offer to exchange my meal and when I received my bill it was left on there even though I didn't finish it. RUDE. Second to last time was ok. When I was there yesterday again, well I got my appetizer before the chips and bean dip that they always give out. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE. I had to ask for chips and my bean dip, or else it would have probably not been brought out. What really upset me was the fact that the appetizer, Queso fundido, tasted overly burnt, and tacos we ordered yesterday tasted really gummy and had a different taste than normal. I mentioned to the waiter. He did not offer to bring anything else but took the plate. Bill comes, I'm still charged for the $14 plate of tacos and the appetizer. Love this place! Started coming to Anelpaco since they were next to St. Joseph hospital. I've tried pretty much everything on the menu and cant say theres anything that I didnt like. Their spcialty cocktails are also pretty tasty. Service here is usually pretty good. However, I've had one that wasn't attentive during a very slow morning but other than that, I'm usually satisfied. read more

I have been coming here for special occasions . Yesterday I left disappointed the food didn't taste freshly made . The ceviche tasted as it was stored for a few days . I ordered enchiladas and the taste was awful. I didn't even finish them. I don't feel the food is fresh anymore . The restaurant was empty too . Waitress was ok . She didn't even check up on us . The perfect word to describe this place is BOLD. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here for dinner. The restaurant is small yet quaint. The decor is unassuming yet lovely and charming. I think it's a great date night locale. The food is very well done and assertive with flavors. Plus I find it super affordable for beautiful plates. It feels like a very elegant chefy restaurant that you do not need to break the bank for. What we got: - Calamari: wow, the most unique and well prepared calamari I've had. This restaurant is not afraid of acidity. The calamari is itself is expertly seasoned and lightly battered then fried to a perfect crisp. The sauce it's served with had strong notes of sour which really balance the fried part, while having a creaminess and smokiness as well. This dish is also tossed with peanuts and a few sprigs of cilantro. So masterfully composed. My husband actually wanted to order a second one since he enjoyed it so much. I said we have to wait for entrees. - carne asada: again, I'm blown away. Most restaurants steer clear of spice, but not here! The sauce the steak comes in is well spiced and bold. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare temp (the way I ordered it). It comes with two fried balls of stuffed with manchego. To die for!! It's like giant cheese croquettes that have been slightly flattened. This dish was so wonderfully put together. I didn't wish to change one thing about it. - braised short ribs: my hubby got this because I never order it from restaurants. I find that no place makes a short rib quite like I do at home. This might be the one place I appreciate short ribs from. It was fall apart tender and moist! The lacquer sauce on it tasted amazingly savory and then they added a nice citrusy avocado spread and pickled cauliflower on top. Those acidic components really boost the dish because they assist in cutting through the richness of the long simmered barbacoa. I love this place. The dishes are well balanced enough and delicious that I was able to finish everything. I didn't want to leave one morsel behind. Normally I always have a little leftover because it gets to be too much of something, like too rich, too salty, too boring. I had no issues here. Looking at older reviews this place used to be good. As I never received the food I ordered this review is based solely on the staff. I called , spoke to Elsie and ordered the Lamb Tatemado and guacamole side. I was told it would be 35-40 mins, fine kinda long time but I'm patient. So I get there and meet Elsie and she takes my credit card. She comes back 5 mins later and tells me she forgot to place my order and it would be another 40 mins. I tell her that's unacceptable and she gives me a blank stare. No offer to make things right whatsoever, sorry Elsie but you should be fired. Luckily I was able to find some great Mexican food at the Urban Cactus a few blocks away so I didn't starve (cost less and came out fast as well). Do yourself a favor and avoid this place (and Elsie). read more

Stopped in for a lunch with clients. The service was good, the cucumber cantaloupe aqua Fresca was refreshing, the guacamole was delicious...loved the added pineapple. I really loved the set up of this place! It's a small yet cozy authentic restaurant and the presentation on all of the food was amazing. The servers were extremely helpful and attentive. I love the authenticity of the food. The only issue I had was that the esquites was more of a soup than the image on their Yelp. Chilaquiles were I think there are 2 locations, I went to the one on Main Street near Saint Joseph Hospital . It's small, but nice. Showed up around 9am there were maybe 4 other customers so service was quick. I ordered a coffee and chilaquiles and my hubby got tacos and fresh juice. Everything was sooooo well seasoned. I showed up at the one on Main street first, by accident and was so frustrated that there wasn't any parking anywhere. I would have had to park almost two blocks away and walk. How does anyone get parking here?! Every single space says it belongs to some other business! So, I'll never know what this one was like compared to the one on Chapman since I'm not one to risk getting towed. The Chilaquiles with the red sauce was a little spicy but perfectly delicious. However, it would be so much better with fried eggs instead of the folded egg mix they put on top. The waiter said they serve the fried egg type for dinner but with a hangar steak. I don't need the steak and wasn't sure why they couldn't just put the fried egg on it instead of making us pay for a side of eggs. The Horchata French toast was ok, but I've had better - if you like that kind of french toast, try the creme brulee french toast at Orange Cafe. The Tres Leches Cake was a big disappointment. I've had various kinds of that cake and so I just thought I loved that dessert. I learned today that is not always the case. This place always comes up as a top rated restaurant in my area so I finally went. Everything - and I mean everything lacked salt. The queso fundido was half soup half cheese and they serve it with bread instead of chips or tortillas. Chips and salsa were never brought to my table even though everyone else in the place had them. The chilaquiles were bland and the enchiladas were too spicy to finish the whole plate. Both my partner and I are Mexican and we both agreed we would rather have El Torito. The rice was straight up white rice, no salt, and not the arroz rojo you expect at a Mexican restaurant. We were both super disappointed. Also - it was way to expensive for what it was. If you want good food in a similar price range and nicer atmosphere I recommend Javiers. read more

An opportunity to brunch out at the newer Anepalco's--months after my embark on the Main location--Yelp buddy Laina A and I concurred to eat and chat the quaint, outdoor patio. Part of it faces a building blocking the view of the Outlets of Orange and lacing adjacent to the Ayres Hotel parking lot. Speaking of the lot I didn't know that there were two specific sections; I followed this Anepalco's arrow and led me to a smaller area, left side of Ayres that permitted a few, avail spaces. Later on I discovered that Laina parked at a more ample lot behind the hotel. Anyway, after reckoning what dishes Laina might suit her palatable desires, she selected one of the Yelp highlights, the Huevos Divorciados ($8.60), which amusingly consisted of two slither-bunched tortillas keenly and separately topped with Anepalco's Salsa Verde and Salsa Roja, but shared commonality with that divine cotija cheese, sour cream, cilantro, onion, avocado, ham, and soft bacon. Her decision, as a result, willingly got me the green light on the Chilaquiles ($8.60), which costs a buck more than the original joint. Looking more closely at this consistently meticulous presentation, though, I just realized that the respective toppings of the green avocado mousse, white sour cream, and red pico de gallo reminded me of the Mexican flag--only no edible eagle sticker in the middle. So was it morally right to compare this to the Main way? Answer: heck yea to that--but with a few remarks. At the parent location, regardless of taking snapshots of that entrée before digging in, bites of these breakfast chips was, firstly, not only subtly crispier at a majority, but, secondly, I can vividly remember its nurturing, warm temperature from both the chips and the smoky, unctuous dark red sauce. For this case, though, my chilaquiles happened to be noticeably colder--no wind involved--and consequently eating slightly soggy crumbled chips made it less enjoyable. Laina's dish was my 1st ever take, and from these easygoing and "al dente" tortillas I found the redder, smoky partner to be more irresistible and more potent for my taste than the green counterpart. Analogously speaking I like to lick on butter pecan and chocolate ice cream, but I have proclivity towards a slightly deeper piquancy, i.e. butter pecan or the salsa roja. A nice piling of carnitas, ordered on the side ($3.50), was rather moist for either of our platters. However, the dishes didn't really need the pork to up the ante, but that meat surely was in dire need of a flavor boost from them. With a nicer, hotel guest-friendly environment I did expect top notch service. I applauded our waiter for his accommodation and info about the sauces, but in the end I didn't agree on his recommended carnitas. So unfortunately, I was surprisingly not full-blown impressed with the Chilaquiles either, like how I was enthused at Main. Our less stellar than expected brunch didn't win that fourth star I truly wished it did, but that doesn't stop that curious trait of mine to visit dinner hours and get that well-mentioned tilapia and free bread & chipotle butter. read more

I was blown away when I first took a bite of Anepalco's chilaquiles years ago. It's time to celebrate my love for Anepalco's by visiting its other location. Located inside Ayres hotel, this restaurant is nicer than the Main Street. Ordered serrano beurre blanc tilapia. Serrano beurre blanc tilapia ($16.50): sauteed tilapia, potato puree, corn pico de gallo, serrano beurre blanc, micro cilantro. Translation: delicious white fish on top of tasty mashed potato swimming in yummy green sauce. The fish tastes very fresh. I don't like potato but I inhale its mashed potato. I also tasted Lisa's costillas al vino rojo (short ribs). The ribs are slow cooked for 8 hours so the meat is super tender. This is a Mexican-French restaurant so "chips and salsa" = bread & butter. The bread is fresh from the oven and its orange butter is so addicting. I don't know what they put in that butter but I can't stop eating the bread. Big mistake!! I got full from the bread before I even touched my meal. I was so stuffed from my delicious meal and I was so tempted to get a room =P Service is great. Friendly, polite and helpful workers. I wanted to try their dinner menu, but i had a mad craving for their brunch only Chilaquiles. I love their chilaquiles at the original location on MAIN (thanks yelp buddies!), so i was excited to come here, which doesn't have a long as a wait. We came here on a saturday afternoon (they are open for brunch from 11am to 2pm and then reopen later for dinner) and got excellent service. We rounded out our meal with some delicious tropical icetea in cutesy mason jars (which make any drink taste so much better). I heard good things about their yummy complimentary bread with chipotle butter, but they only serve this at dinner. Unfortunately, ANEPALCO MEXICAN RESTAURANT turned out to be a bust. My wife ordered Mishima Wagyu Tacos, which was a huge mistake. The so called "wagyu beef" in the tacos was mostly pieces of fat. I could not believe a restaurant would serve a customer mostly fat in a taco. I had their Lamb Tatemado, which was lacking flavor. I suggest you eat at a taco truck before this restaurant. read more

When asked to pick a place for dinner, this was my pick! ~Callo de hacha: Scallops atop polenta and tons of yummy sauces!! I've had Mexican and Peruvian ceviche and it looked nothing like those, must be the French/Mexican twist. ~Tropical dessert crepe: yummy, and again, small... flakes and flakes of COCONUT!! Mmmmm ... kookoo for cocoNUTS! ~Caramel crepe: ok. Contained thinly sliced apple atop, not a big apple fan We all unanimously agreed the size of everything was quite small! Color me sad and disappointed with Anepalco's Cafe. I met up for Sunday brunch with beautiful Fia R. and while we had a long and very enjoyable brunch, it was more about the companionship-conversation and peach iced tea. The food itself was a big let down for me. Anepalco's Chilaquiles (tortilla chips, scrambled eggs, sauce, cotija cheese, sour cream, avocado mousse & pico de gallo) People rant and rave about this dish that I had one bite of and that was enough. Cold, mushy chips and overcooked eggs! Who cares about the rest of the ingredients-flavors, not me! and Huevos Divorciados (tortillas, ham, bacon, eggs, onion, avocado, cotija cheese, sour cream, cilantro & green and red sauces) This was actually good and full of flavor, especially the red sauce. However the ingredients aside from tortillas & sauce were extremely minimal in it. and Side of Carnitas for some extra meat because I was told by the waiter it was great. It was not! Served lukewarm and shredded, it looked like food out of a can and the taste was not very good. Peach iced tea is freshly brewed and delicious. Service was very good. The plating of food is very well done. I was excited to try this cafe, but left disappointed, one of the raraties of Yelp letting me down. One of the best brunches I've had. Almost booked this spot for a luncheon I organized, but realized it didn't have a private room! After perusing the menu, I vowed to return, it looked so tasty. Booked a table for eight for Sunday brunch with friends. Located next to some sort of motel (with an "m"), the restaurant itself is on a lackluster corner next to a freeway. But inside, the ambiance is cozy with a huge chandelier (nice touch). Reasonably-priced, ($10? $12?) I ordered the huevos rancheros. Topped with avocado mousse and surrounded by a sauce that was to die for, it definitely put a spin on your run-of-the-mill variety. Husband got the huevos with duck - said it "tasted more like a curry." Great Mexican hot chocolate and service was attentive. They even arranged for plates and candles for birthday cupcakes! Close to Disneyland and all those hotels, unless you like dining with Disney characters, skip Goofy's Cafe and come here instead for breakfast. read more

Everyone knows how much the hubby loves this place but I have to chime in here for a moment after having dinner at the new location with friends. I am not going to bore you with 8 paragraphs of how they cooked it or all the ingredients that went into it but let me tell you one thing: Chipotle Creamy Chicken Crepe! GET THEM! You will not be sorry that you did. I think that they are the best thing on the menu. One bite and my mouth was tasting flavors - the best flavor combination there is. Smoky, creamy and YES it has bacon in it! You know when you go to a restaurant and they totally get it right and you just want to tell everyone to "try this stuff - its mind blowing good"? Well that is exactly what these crepes are all about. SOOoooooo good! I couldn't get enough of them and was so sorry when I had finished my plate. There was no way I was sharing this meal with the table to "taste test: GET YOUR OWN! You will be glad you did. P.S. So I took my family here for my sister's boyfriend birthday here on Sunday. They wouldn't believe me about the chilaquiles. So we decided to order one with the carnitas added on top as an appetizer and OMG! The dish is still amazing, people were fighting over the last bite. There was eight of us. Everyone got something different, our server really knew his stuff. Great recommendations. I wanted to get something other than the chilaquiles as my main course since I always get that. So I got the Huevos Perdidos -Duck breast, bacon, roasted potatoes, poached eggs, chipotle, tomato & red sauce which was really good in my opinion some people at the table wanted it spicier but for me it was good in flavor just wish it had a little bit more duck. My other favorite dishes were the Truffle Burger my sister ordered and my step mom ordered a traditional quesadilla, simple but fresh ingredients. Just a side note, they are doing construction on the bathrooms and the hotel right now. So you have to go into like a hotel room that only has one bathroom for the whole restaurant. OMG...taste bud explosion! Anepalco is as good as it gets when it comes to modern Mexican. The flavors, presentation, attention to detail, ambiance and quality food product all exceed expectations. Our group came for dinner on a Saturday night. The place was only half full, but from my experience, there should have been a line out the door. The location is in an interesting location, but fear not, there is no reason to be turned off. Our table ordered several cocktails. The Diablo Mezcal with tamarindo and chili salt was my personal favorite, as I could easily drink these by the gallon. We also ordered the Jalapeno Cucumber Margarita which had a kick, but was refreshing enough that you craved more. For appetizers we got the spicy calamari and seafood ceviche. The calamari was kind of like a Kung Pao asian dish that had peanuts, but with a ranchero sauce. The breading was light and the squid bits were both rings and tentacles...the only way to do calamari. The ceviche was like a salsa verde gazpacho and it was very refreshing on a hot summer day. I lifted the bowl like a mercenary to drink the broth. Dinner was even more fabulous than the excellent appetizers. We ordered the "Not So Paella," paella, the duck carnitas and asada chilaquiles. Could a table of three consume this much food??? Barely. But the struggle here was so real, we had to. Our table requested three homemade corn tortillas that perfectly matched with the duck carnitas. In fact, duck tacos are now our go to taco...nothing else compares. The chilaquiles came loaded with a fried egg and the steak was perfectly grilled. The paella was tad oily but had fresh seafood, tender rice and a light herbal green sauce. By dessert time there was just no room, so we skipped it. However, fancy tip, head over to the adjoining hotel lobby and snag a few homemade chocolate chip cookies...Jane nearly made us Uber back a couple hours later for more.
