Located inside Fera Anaheim, a DoubleTree by Hilton, this bar/lounge was honestly one of the main reasons we decided to book our stay there. And I'm glad I did. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In the daytime, the patio area is gorgeous--you can really appreciate the firepit seating and the little lake with koi fish outside. Such a relaxing vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We came by around 4PM to pregame before Disney and the bar was pretty busy. Huge shoutout to Arvey, the bartender who took care of us during our visit. Not only was the service exceptional, but he genuinely made some of the best cocktails we've had in a while. Sitting at the bar and watching him make the drinks was honestly part of the experience itself. At first we were trying to customize and tweak our drinks because we usually stay in our comfort zone, but after talking with him and learning more about the ingredients in The Peel's specialty cocktails, we decided to trust the process a little more. We ordered the Dragonfly and Playing With Fire, and both were amazing--beautiful presentation, really balanced flavors, sweet and sour in the best way. We're usually not big foam cocktail people either, but this visit might've changed our minds a little. Also, Playing With Fire came with a fun little presentation moment which made it even better. The Peel is located inside Hotel Fera and you can park in the lot just out front, on the side of the hotel there's a few spots you can scan the QR code and pay for, or you can park in the parking structure that's behind and to the right of the hotel. Parking validation is done at the front desk. They have a solid menu of appetizers, entrees and desserts and a very nice craft cocktail menu. I had the Como la Flor cocktail this night and in the past I've enjoyed the Fera & the Dragonfly cocktails. The appetizers are great to share with your friends and there's lots to choose from. I enjoyed the Brussels sprouts and the mini sliders a lot and my friends really loved the chorizo flatbread. For the entree I got the smash burger and it's pretty filling and rich. You get fries with the order and the fries are perfectly crispy and tasty. For dessert we got the bread pudding, lemon cheesecake and lava cake. The lemon cheesecake was like biting a slice of lemon with some sugar. It's definitely for lemon lovers and I enjoyed it. Bread pudding ice cream was good but the bread pudding was alright and you can't go wrong with lava cake. Again, my only issue with the Peel is the service. It's not very hospitable compared to other restaurants I've visited. There was a bit of a wait from when we were seated to when our server showed up. He took our orders, the food and drinks would show up, and after that we didn't see our server for a while, so we were without drink refills and our table had dirty dishes that just sat there. I glanced around a few times and saw no servers on the floor, a server that was not ours that was far away or would try to flag one down for a refill on our waters but they were quickly leaving the area. We were waiting on the check, but just kept talking instead and then finally, when the check came we were in mid conversation catching up. He stopped by a few minutes later, picked up the check and realized we had not put our cards down to pay it and came back and dropped it off again. We paid using Google-Wallet at their point of sale system and sat back down to finish our conversation and the busser asked if he could remove the dirty dishes on our table and said, in a rude tone, "Yeah because we're closed already." We didn't realize they were closed since there was still a large crowd of people at the bar, and he could have said that in a polite way and said thank you for coming, but he made it known he has to set his jars of jam down on the table for breakfast tomorrow. Honestly, had our server come by much earlier and checked on us and left the bill, we would've left before closing. The Peel is located inside the Hotel Fera. The space is on the main level in the back, and is very open and well lit. There seems to be a cool outdoor area with seating, fire pits, and even a water feature! BAR: The first thing you see is the big beautiful bar. It's a large square shape with seating on three of the four sides. There are TV's on each side, a nice display of bottles behind the bar, and another display of bottles above your head for decoration. DRINKS: They have a dozen specialty cocktails featuring your standard spirits. The presentation on some of these is fun, and there were a handful that I wish I could have tried. You can also order custom cocktails as they have a full bar. There are ~10 options for both red and white wines. They serve 6oz, 9oz, and full bottles. A few of the options are only available as full bottles. There are also a couple sparkling options available in 6oz and full bottles. While I didn't see a beer menu, I noticed around 10 tap handles at the bar. The cocktails we tried: - Como La Flor (Teremana Resposado, Grapefruit, Lime, Lavender-Infused Simple Syrup, Grapefruit Soda, Butterfly Pea Flower Tea - $16.50) - This was really refreshing and wasn't overly tart or bitter. It's a beautiful purple color and served with a slice of grapefruit in the glass. - So Cal Sling (St. George Gin, Luxardo Bianco, St. Germain, Pineapple, Fresh Lime, Bitters, Club Soda - $16) - I was going between this and the Gene Autry, and our server recommended this one. The spirit flavor was there, but not overpowering. Another refreshing cocktail served in a highball style glass with a dried pineapple garnish. - The Fera (Ketel One, Basil, Cucumber, Mint, Fresh Lemon Juice, Simple Syrup - $16) - This was the replacement drink for one that was sent back. The display on this one is fun with some cucumber slivers on a skewer. She said it was crisp and delicious, and really enjoyed it. FOOD: We came with a small group of 3 and decided to order some dishes to share amongst us. We got: - Mediterranean Charcuterie Board (Spanish chorizo, prosciutto, capicola, salami, manchego cheese, point reyes cheese, brie cheese, pickled vegetables, olives, grain mustard, crispy baguette - $22) - This thing is loaded. Great value for the price, they definitely don't skimp on the meat. I do wish there was more cheese, but the ones they included were very tasty. We ended up taking a lot of this one home and enjoyed it on the couch a few days later! - Peel Fish Tacos (Mahi Mahi, sour orange adobo, corn tortilla, citrus, coleslaw, fire roasted tomato salsa, guacamole, lime, chipotle aioli, cilantro - $18) - These were solid. They come with 3 per order, which was perfect for our group size. The fish is grilled, not fried, and has great flavor! - Crispy Brussel Sprouts (Balsamic, honey syrup, crispy onions, roasted shishito peppers - $13) - There was a lot going on here, but it worked! I liked the crispy onions on top, and don't think I've ever had brussels with shishito peppers. - Tempura Cauliflower (Sweet chili BBQ sauce, sesame seeds, scallions - $15) - This might have been the favorite dish of everything we ordered. One of our guests is Gluten Free, so she wasn't able to try this one... too bad! We ordered an extra side of the sauce, which was REALLY good. Would for sure order this one again! - California Hummus (Sundried tomato, cucumbers, niçoise olives, Temecula olive oil - $12) - I only had a few bites of this, but it was tasty. I don't love olives, and it has little pieces of olive spread out on top, which I didn't love. It comes with cute little soft pita pieces, though we added a side of tortilla chips ($4) to accommodate our GF friend. PARKING: There is a self-parking lot that is part of the hotel. You grab a ticket on the way in, and are supposed to get it validated before you leave. OVERALL: We came with a small group to celebrate a friend's birthday, and had a lovely time. It was a Wednesday evening, and not busy at all-a few people at the bar and a few tables in the dining room. Our server, Bryan, was friendly and made recommendations on favorite / popular dishes. This place is a hidden gem! I never noticed it because it is located in the lobby of the hotel! There is ample seating, natural sunlight, and really cute cabana style booths that are divided by chic curtains really cute! Stopped by for lunch, and it was delicious. I'm picky with salmon, and the chef got this one right! Crispy skin, tender, juicy, and great portion size. I was thrown off by the romaine lettuce because it was a "stalk" that I had to cut apart. Tasted great but extra effort was required lol just fyi. Went here with my wife and friends. This restaurant is located inside Hotel Fera. When I pulled up to the hotel I tried to pull into the parking. I had to scan a QR code that wasn't working, so I pulled into the Valet only to find out you get 2 hours free if going to eat at the Peel. So that made things easy. The restaurant is inside the hotel, that caught me off guard. Even though they said they opened at 2pm it was a limited menu so I was pretty hungry and to only be able to order appetizers was an upset. But the fish tacos were good and tasty and fresh. The saving Grace for me was the bartender she was very attentive which I appreciated. Now I would give this a 4 or 5 star but I was a bit aggravated by not being able to leave the parking lot. I got trapped in because all the stalls were closed which was stupid, but then I walk back to the hotel and inform them about the issue so he send valet to let me out. The valet attendant was just extremely rude he said you need to push the button to be able to get out! Like I'm not stupid I've been to a few parking lots before. My wife ordered the dragonfly and she wanted to substitute the gin for vodka and he also convinced her to try it as his. He let us know that he's not a fan of Gin either but that it's an infused gin and it really compliments the dragonfruit syrup well so we trusted him and she loved it! Went there for a dinner in the beginning of the year and had a great time. Food was delicious and the server was very helpful. That was on a Friday early evening and we were the only one at the restaurant. I was so excited to go back. So I booked a Mother's Day brunch, but this time did not have the same experience. Was very excited about the food and the ambience food was great as usual however, when we got there, we were seated outside (5 of us total). It was a sunny day. There was plenty of seating inside that weren't taken, but they said that those were already reserved. I had asked them if we can move inside so that was OK if it was reserved but then we noticed that people who came after us were seated outside, but then asked to be moved inside and we're granted that. I felt kind of an exception that they wouldn't let us move inside when everybody else after us was able to we were the only ones outside for the next two hours while the inside still had empty seats. And we weren't even able to hear the live music that was going on because that was inside. Of course we booked Mother's Day for the whole amenities that they were offering, including the live music and we had to keep walking inside to get dessert and other items that were buffet style. For being a starter, the board was robust and filling, ended up not wanting to get an entrée oops. The cocktails I feel were a bit steep on price and definitely tasted watered down, borderline non-alcoholic. The interior ambience and customer service were top notch though. Everything about our experience was perfect! The bar had a cozy and classy vibe to it. From the design to the decorations. We were staying at the hotel and wanted to grab drinks before a concert - and I'm glad we chose to do that here! The menu was descriptive and it was hard to pick a drink; all of them sounded fun. The French Butterfly was sweet, strong, and definitely enjoyable. My friend got the Como La Flor, and the grapefruit taste was refreshing. As hotel guests, we got breakfast vouchers. Their menu looked great, and their breakfast plate was delicious. It was very filling. It's on the pricey end, but it's to be expected from a hotel restaurant. Service was decent, and the dining area was clean. It was a nice experience overall as guests! read more

Old things become new, and sometimes they become majestic. Peel Craftbar and Kitchen is in the old Doubletree by the Outlets of Orange, which is now called Hotel Fera, a DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton. That's a mouthful. Basically, it has it's own stylistic name, but is still a DoubleTree Hotel that has DoubleTree standards. Along with the name change, the hotel freshened itself up and in some ways, reinvented itself. Its lobby is brand new and they finally decided to showcase their bar and hotel restaurant. With Peel, the hotel knocked down a meeting room wall to open up preexisting, three-story-high vaulted ceilings which makes for a stunning place to grab drink or food. High ceilings for days. Fully length windows for days. A bar with windows that air out and open up to the wood deck patio. A wood deck patio that has fire pits over looking their lush landscape and flowing stream. In a way, it's paradise. The menu at the Peel is ambitious in that they have dishes from so many cuisines and all are done well. There's flat breads, fish tacos, ahi tuna poke bowls, bucatini, pear salads, pan roasted salmon, fried chicken sandwiches, shrimp and scallop ceviche... Pretty much something for everyone. Agave Summer - Passion fruit, tequila, Ancho Reyes and fresh lime, this blended well together, with the passion fruit playing strongly and letting the tequila just enough room to make itself known. A moderately strong but easy sipping tequila cocktail that isn't overly sweet. Coastline Shrimp and Scallop Aguachile - This was like a ceviche. Fresh chunks of shrimp and scallop with tomatoes, red onions, yuzu, avocados and thick tortilla chips. A light dish that was full of flavor that I couldn't stop dipping into. Recommended. Pei Mussels - If you only get one thing on the menu, get these mussels. These mussels are cooked in a gimme-another-spoonful coconut curry that is perfection and would rival anything you would get in any fine dining establishment. The yellow curry soup is spicy with a kick but not enough to make you sweat. The curry flavors are rich. The toasted, buttery ciabatta slices will not be enough to sop up all of the soupy base. Ask for more bread because, heck, you only live once. Dip and repeat until the bowl is dry. Pear Salad - This dish didn't look that impressive but tasted great. Endives with poached pear, mixed greens, candied walnuts, goat cheese and vinaigrette all played well together. I would order it again. If you get a burger or sandwich, be sure to get the potato chips instead of the fries (well get the fries if you want). Their potato chips are fresh cut and fried in house. They are so, so good. Don't say I never told you so. I was very surprised and impressed with the Peel. They reinvented the lobby bar to make it a destination, but still kept everything in a reasonable price range with wide ranging selections on the menu that are done well. The space is majestic and relaxing at the same time, depending on if you are sitting inside or outside. The servers were great. The good thing is that you can walk over when you are done shopping at the Outlets of Orange. I do not know if they validate for parking. If you are considering parking at the hotel parking lot, check on the fees first. Definitely a cool little spot to show off to your friends. They will ask how you even found the place. Oh wow. I came here for a date night with my husband based off their good reviews and it was such a disappointment. Went Dec. 20th around 6:30/7 and all around it was a mess. We had multiple servers and they had no communication with each other. One male server was particularly sassy when he asked 20 minutes later if he took our order and we said no. The martini I ordered really had the saddest olives I've ever seen, so soft I couldn't even eat them. The menu was terribly dirty and quite honestly it was embarrassing to even read off of. The 2 dishes that were good were the ceviche and the poke bowl. The Cesar I ordered would've been fine if it was dressed in accordance with its menu's description but it was missing a pepita nut that I was rather excited to have. It wasn't packed that day but you did notice the staff waiting on larger parties much more. I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you were already at the hotel and needed food. Luckily the hotel does validate so you may park right in front but I wouldn't return based on service and quality. This place needs some serious guidance. You can tell when a staff and establishment take pride in their work/appearance but this is not one of them. read more
