After over 30 years, the hardwood in our 1948 house desperately needed refinishing on two floors; dirt was ground into high traffic areas. Everything Angel Floors did was professional with high quality results, from the initial consultation to communications--including detailed written instructions--to the actual work. On top of that, I was coordinating Angel Floors' work with painters, and Angel Floors was *extremely* patient about accommodating our (reasonable) requests. We worked out a way for the painters to come in, remove bullnose and paint the baseboards ahead of time--for a much cleaner look. Then Angel Floors come in to move the large furniture (extremely carefully), and got refinishing done. They agreed to wait until the painting was complete before the last step of moving the furniture done. They did not have to do this, as it complicated their scheduling, but they helped us out. The floors look absolutely amazing. Angel Floors replaced boards that were burned in front of the fireplace, covered up an old ductwork hole, put all the bullnose in place crisply and securely, with the natural polyurethane coating after sanding giving us floors that had darkened to nearly a walnut color with wear and tear transformed to a honey color that is absolutely lovely. I noticed even our stairs no longer creak, they even fixed that. They did such an incredibly thorough job. Highly recommended. read more

We recently bought a house that was built in 1942 and has hardwood floors throughout the house, including the kitchen and stairs. The floors were in such bad shape it seemed as if they'd never been refinished and we couldn't imagine them coming out clean but Tony did exceptional work and we couldn't believe the results, stunning! The job took 3 1/2 days to complete. The smell of the oil-based finish was not too bad and it was gone in a matter of few days. The dust created from sanding/stripping was barely noticeable and the crew cleaned up each day. We also needed repair work in sections and they did a great job. My house is just over 100 years old and had carpeting on every floor for at least half of the time it's been standing. I decided to remove all of the carpet to see if the wood floors could be salvaged. In my mind, the second floor of my home would probably need the floors replaced they looked so bad. I went about the confusing process of getting quotes from a few contractors. One contractor said I needed to replace all the floors upstairs. Another said that they could "fill in gaps" with wood putty and refinish the floors for a price that was out of this world, not even including replacing shoe molding around the floor. I didn't like those options and held out for a quote from Angel Floors because of the 100% Consumer Checkbook rating AND the rave reviews on Yelp. I had to wait a couple of weeks for an opening on their schedule for the quote, but I was fortunate to not be in a rush. When Roxana came to give a quote, I knew that I had found a winner. As soon as she stepped into the house she identified which flooring was original to the house and what was added later. She told me that I had antique pine that could be saved. She explained why I should never go with a contractor that would fill in gaps with putty. She even was knowledgeable about the woodwork of the period my house was built and what the likely species of the wood around the house was. Her knowledge let me know I could trust her with the job. I knew that I may have an extended business trip at the same time as the job, so trust was essential. The job had to happen a few weeks later as the Angel Floors team is small and in demand, but it was worth the wait. Antique pine floors that have not had any maintenance can splinter badly if not handled properly. I was out of the country while the work happened, but in constant communication with the team. My floors were very neglected and dry, but somehow Angel Floors made it work. My only regret is that I didn't take enough before pictures. Everyone who has seen my living room and dining room floors thinks I had new ones installed. If you have to wait to get Angel Floors, I say wait. You only get wood flooring done every once in a while so you have to live with the results for a long time. You can trust that you'll like the service and results that Angel Floors provides. EDITED TO ADD: I had been warned by friends about the dust from floor refinishing. Especially the fact that I was doing the whole house. All I have to say is "What dust?". I went through the trouble of wrapping up my new fridge before they came to work on the floors, but it was unnecessary. They came to fix our old floor after a small flood (in a small apartment) but knew it was so badly ruined it needed to be totally replaced. I appreciated their willingness to do the job right, not jut quickly. They were professional and prompt with their scheduling. The floor was replaced over a 3 day period. All furniture that Angel Floors moved was replaced almost exactly where we left it and very little work was required to get the apartment back in shape (mostly just unpacking our books and wires and putting them back where they needed to be. I'd like to preface this review with these folks did not actually do our floors but we had them do quotes twice and I LOVE THEIR HONESTY! Fall 2014: Gave us a quote for hardwood refinishing when we first moved into our house in Takoma Park, but explained how we probably didn't need to redo them and how they were in good shape, etc. They were super honest and this was greatly appreciated! Fall 2020: Asked for a quote again because of the 2014 interaction. We did not use this time only because they did not have availability within the short timeframe we needed (and I see why not!). These folks were extremely responsive in getting back to us on a date/time to come out for a quote. When the person came and heard the timeframe, they were very upfront on how they couldn't fit us in. Even knowing we might not go with them, they still spent 30 minutes providing extremely useful refinishing advice to use when speaking with other companies! They sent a general estimate along and it was either lower or comparable to the other companies we received quotes from. If the time frame worked out, then hands down we would have gone with this company. Pro tip: these guys are great and booking about a month out so call them early in the hardwood floor refinishing process to get on their calendar! read more
