Happened into this place while visiting family in Arizona, we traveled through Gallup NM and stopped in. Met the owner Angela and her son who made us a great Cafe con Leche and the sandwich I had was delicious. Such a great place to relax and have some good food, the place is in the old train station building and the town's historic district off old Route 66. My husband and I stopped here on our way to Phoenix. He had the special gyro sandwich and I had a pastrami on rye sandwich. The sandwiches were made with fresh ingredients and so delicious. I think this is the fastest my wife and I have ever left a restaurant. After we got our menu from someone that definitely hated their job. We looked over the the menus and their prices and slipped and actually let out a laugh. Nowhere else I have ever been in Gallup has a SALAD cost over $15! We couldn't help but laugh as we walked out. What a quaint place for a meal. We had lunch. Several sandwich choices available along with bread choices. I had a turkey sandwich on jalapeño bread and excellent potato salad. Definitely homemade. I had a pastrami sandwich and it was excellent! I also had the soup of the day, roasted red pepper and smoked Gouda. It was phenomenal. Everyone in my party loved it when they tasted it. My iced tea was kind of meh, and it may have been from a mix. Our server was a young woman who was personable and helpful. The one wrinkle is trying to find the front door. There is a sign on the building facing Highway 66, but the entrance is actually around the side, almost to the train tracks. read more

Very good fresh food. The homemade soup was delish and the sandwiches were lean cuts and good bread. Both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the ambience. The restaurant is in the old train depot and part of what used to be Mary Colter's El Navajo. Unfortunately, the beautiful hotel piece has long been demolished but even the depot part has its charm. Angela was really friendly and chatted with us for a bit. We also visited the Storyteller's museum upstairs. Some very interesting pieces and the donation is up to you. read more

This is the worst place you could ever eat. The treatment that I got was so representative of the attitude that non-Natives have against Native people. I came into this cafe and sat down and waited for a menu. When no one was coming, I got up and went to the counter and asked for a menu. The young girl shouted at me saying I was disrespectful to her. I calmly said I was not and that I just want a menu. She kept yelling I was disrespectful by my demeanor. After that she stormed out and didn't come back til later. I brought this to the attention of an older lady and she talked to her. She later came back and said the young girl calmed I was the one who was disrespectful. As I was leaving, the young girl said that if you're going to write a review be sure to say that my name is Christina. She sound like she was proud to express the attitude of Angela's Cafe. Due to work assignment, we are staying in Gallup long enough to try out pretty much every restaurant in town on weekends. Angeles was recommended so we swung by for lunch. The guy working the counter was very nice, helpful, and busy. I had the chicken salad sandwich with soup..both good although I didn't find any apples in the mix. Hubby had the turkey sandwich. I love it. All of it. From the peach mango iced tea to the ceasar chicken salad, it is delicious. Perfectly seasoned, perfectly tender, this salad is awesome. Angela's Café has recently extended hours to include the dinner time period, so my fiancé and I went to check it out. Cute interior, great photos, clean. The server was friendly, although he did not know what wines or beers they carried. Since they had no menu written for those items, he allowed us to look in the cooler at the bottled beers and he gave me the handwritten list of wines that they had. On to the food. I had a gyro which was delicious. The tzatziki sauce was pretty good considering we were in Gallup, NM. the pita was nice and warm. The meat was delicious. I chose a green salad as my side, and it was a nice spring mix, with red peppers, and cucumbers. My fiancé had the pastrami sandwich and it was a huge serving. He chose the potato salad as his side. Oh my gosh! Great coffee! I had an Americana. Really good. Sandwich special with really good green chile. I had no idea it was here but glad I found it. Nice friendly people. We were SOOOO delighted when we found Angela's on our trip from Texas to the Grand Canyon that we went 125 miles OUT of our way home to stop there again!
