I've heard about this place through FB and Reddit pizza discussion forums. Just FYI, they do charge you 4% if you use a debit or credit card. I know it's weird especially since everything is digital these days. I placed a carry out order through the phone. I didn't experience any rudeness and this was on a Thursday night. I think there is only one guy answering phones and also serving customers in person. The place can be found in downtown Downers Grove, it's literally next to the free parking garage. The dining room is small but it has a good amount of seating (13-15 tables inside). When it's warmer they do have outside seating. I ordered a medium meat special (cheese, sausage, pepperoni, hamburger, and bacon) and cheesy garlic bread. Food was hot when I picked it up. Medium is a good size if you're sharing between 2 people. Pizza is tavern style and very crispy. So much flavor in each bite. The cheesy garlic bread was wonderfully done. They gave me two big pieces. Cheese doesn't easily fall off. Unfortunately, I'll have to take off a star due to the 4% charge for debit/credit use.

It was pretty busy and the dining area isn't too big. I'm sure in the summer the outdoor area gives it enough room for people to dine in. I was able to get the last table. The chicken parmasean pasta was good. The noodles were cooked well and the chicken was moist. It came with garlic bread which was perfect with the pasta. The cheese pizza was well balanced. Sometimes I feel like the sauce at certain places can be too sweet. The owner (I think) came around and checked on everyone to see how the food was and thanked them for coming in. You could see flour in his apron and how hard he's working. I definitely will come back here.

Pizza & wings were amazing! I also loved the decor they had inside, very unique. The lady who helped us was very kind, even gave my nephew a free cookie(: would recommend!!!!

Ate a large cheese and sausage pizza at Angelo's this afternoon. It was the best pizza experience we have had in years. Friendly, clean, well-run and most of all, delicious. Hats off (pun) for the best run pizza restaurant ever!

I've literally been trying to go here for months! Every time I call to order, they're closed. I've had them bookmarked for MANY years! But lately, I've had a hankering to try them out, but I can't find the correct hours on the place. They're not near me, so I was scared to just drop by. Today, I was determined! Lbs I placed my order by phone for pick up for a small sausage/mushroom. I requested my usual extra sauce and well done. Everything was executed perfectly. I sat right in my car to eat this piping hot baby. I could feel the heat walking to the car, and baby, was I excited! Lol. I ate about 10 slices *JUDGE YA MAMA NOT ME* LMAOOO The service was very friendly!!!!!! I told my hubby we will be going back and definitely dining in!

First time here and will be the first of many! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. They welcomed us warmly as newcomers and set all the expectations for how long food would take. We ordered some breaded mushrooms and a thin crust Angelo's Special. All the food came out right when they said it would - fresh and hot as well. Mushrooms were crispy, flavorful & served with a generous side of ranch. The pizza has crispy cracker crust, tons of warm, gooey cheese plus ample toppings. Extremely good flavor, cooked just right and the perfect ratio of ingredients. This place hits the trifecta of great food, great service & unique ambiance. Worth going out of your way for!

It had been sometime since we had been to Angelos Pizza in Downers Grove. The place was bustling and the staff was busy. We took our pizza to and it was good. Remember to bring cash, since they do charge a credit card processing fee.

I love to try different pizza joints, especially if they've been around since 1959! Happened to be near Downers Grove yesterday and was in need of some food, why not pizza? After a few minutes researching, Angelo's popped up. Solid reviews, good looking pie, and a very interesting pedigree. We are all in! Loved the vibe, and the self order format. The staff were friendly and attentive. After a relatively short period our pies were delivered to our table steaming hot. Very good. Light crust, ample cheese, and a very tasty sauce. The sausage was very good. I'm hoping and guessing that it is made in house. Wish I was a bit closer as this would be a go to pizza place for me.

Our original choice for pizza that night was a 2 hour wait. So we took a shot with Yelp and found this place 5 minutes away. The owner took our order and we were eating in 20 minutes. Absolutely floored by the cracker thin crust! Great flavors. Great service and nice ambiance! If you are in the area this is a must try place!

Decent but will never come back. Better options plus the Principal of surcharge for a credit card in day and age is unacceptable.

Kids were given pizza dough to keep them busy while there. I tried the spinach + artichoke white pizza and the B-OG. Both extremely flavorful with high quality ingredients. The crust was cooked to perfection, crispy and fluffy at the same time. Customers have a view of the kitchen so they are able to see their pizzas being made, it's really cool. In retrospect I get it. You order at the counter then seat yourself. The dining are was loud, even at a tall table in the corner conversation was difficult. The staff was attentive asking us if we needed anything, other than our food...no. My friend ordered the "white pizza" that has WAY too much garlic. I had my standard sausage/mushroom/cheese. Not over garlic, but unremarkable. If we return it would be carry out, but I doubt that is going to happen.

The sausage was definitely the fan favorite for the kids. I have to say the pizza crust was really enjoyable, crispy throughout and not too paper thin and robust enough to hold all toppings. As far as service, it's best to call in ahead to put in your order, as I've heard they only pump out 100 or so pizzas per day and seem to be in high demand. For example, we called in on a weekday at 4:45pm and pick up wouldn't be until 6:35pm. So roughly, two hour wait which was on par with what I've read about. The shop itself is very small. Only two tables and the rest of the space is dedicated to the kitchen and pizza oven. I'd recommend taking to go as inside runs hot from the big ol' oven. All in all, really great quality tavern style. Worth a try if you can time the order with when you want to eat. =P 'Til next time, cheers!

It tastes great if you use a pizza stone. The pizza on the other hand, I was underwhelmed. I ate it when it was fresh as well as on the pizza stone. The crust is bland and tasteless.
