We tried both the homestyle thin crust pizza and pan pizza. Normally, we are not fans of thin crust (the homestyle) pizza, but figured we had to try it since that is their specialty. We are so glad we did! Because the cheese was perfectly gooey without being overwhelming paired with a delicious tomato sauce atop a complimentary crust with just the right amount of give to it. This may be the only thin crust pizza I would continue to get. The pan pizza was basically just the thin crust pizza with a lip on the perimeter and more cheese. This pizza was not nearly as good as the thin crust because if I'm going to eat a non-thin crust pizza, I want a more doughy crust and this just did not deliver. There was also too much cheese and it wasn't charred the same way the thin crust was. The inside is quaint with hats from all over everywhere. Service is also very kind and as quick as they can be with how busy it is. My only complaint is I wish they had a vegetable side dish that was fried, but it's a local pizza shop and perhaps not the right audience for this. read more

The person taking our order said it would be 35 to 40 minutes. However, it took over an hour. Also, they serve fountain soft drinks, yet the person offered me can soda. I think I would prefer to place an order to go. There was a group of parents with preschool age kids that were super loud and were letting the kids run all over. For a small space it was annoying. I've heard about this place through FB and Reddit pizza discussion forums. Just FYI, they do charge you 4% if you use a debit or credit card. I know it's weird especially since everything is digital these days. I placed a carry out order through the phone. I didn't experience any rudeness and this was on a Thursday night. I think there is only one guy answering phones and also serving customers in person. The place can be found in downtown Downers Grove, it's literally next to the free parking garage. The dining room is small but it has a good amount of seating (13-15 tables inside). When it's warmer they do have outside seating. I ordered a medium meat special (cheese, sausage, pepperoni, hamburger, and bacon) and cheesy garlic bread. Food was hot when I picked it up. Medium is a good size if you're sharing between 2 people. Pizza is tavern style and very crispy. So much flavor in each bite. The cheesy garlic bread was wonderfully done. They gave me two big pieces. Cheese doesn't easily fall off. Honestly, I'm a little annoyed with myself for taking so long to come here! We came here for a casual dinner, and I was absolutely blown away by the customer service and the pride that the two owners have in their business. You order at the counter, then seat yourself for dine in and they bring out your order as it's ready. Both owners were out greeting customers, bussing dishes and making connections with folks throughout the time we were there. The owner introduced himself to us, and we could just tell how much he loves what he does. Of course, fantastic service was just the cherry on top. The thin crust pizza was absolutely fantastic, as was the Cesar salad. We were eying the Italian beef a guy got at the table next to us, so we might try that next time. It was pretty busy and the dining area isn't too big. I'm sure in the summer the outdoor area gives it enough room for people to dine in. I was able to get the last table. The chicken parmasean pasta was good. The noodles were cooked well and the chicken was moist. It came with garlic bread which was perfect with the pasta. The cheese pizza was well balanced. Sometimes I feel like the sauce at certain places can be too sweet. The owner (I think) came around and checked on everyone to see how the food was and thanked them for coming in. We can't say enough great things about Angelo's Pizza in Downers Grove! When we were living in Downers Grove we always ordered from Angelo's. We did pick-up most of the time and occasionally had delivery which was always done in a timely fashion. After we moved out of Downers Grove, we continued coming to Angelos and enjoyed dining both indoors and their beautiful outdoor patio. Angelos is by far, the BEST pizza we have ever tasted and recommend it to everyone we know and bring our out of town guests to Angelos often. In addition to their wonderful pizza, they serve many other tasty items. We especially love the owners and all of the staff who are so helpful and caring. Basically, I'm still looking for a good old-fashioned thin crust like the kind I had growing up in Cicero 65 years ago: Sausage with a hint of fennel, cheese browned to perfection along with a decently thin and crispy crust. Sauce, though, is my dealbreaker, as it must be not too sweet, acidic, concentrated, garlicky spicy hot, watery, or bitter; but balanced, tasty and flavorful, without overwhelming the rest of the pie. We stopped in for lunch on the weekend and it wasn't busy at all. The woman working there was super friendly and sweet. We got breaded zucchini to start. They were definitely made fresh to order and came out piping hot. It was a good sized portion, the zucchini was not overcooked and the breading was crispy. We got a medium pizza with spinach, mushroom and sausage. The crust is cracker thin, they used fresh spinach and a lot of cheese. No complaints here. For years, when I came back I always wanted Lou Malnati's or my old fav Home Run Inn - but with HRI we can get the frozen ones in the SF Bay Area now (yay). When we placed our order for Dine-in, we were told we could only order pizza for dine in and it would be an hour wait. The owner/manager made that announcement several times to the young lady working the counter. To be clear, I asked if we could order an app or salad and was told we couldn't. It was pizza-only for the dining room because they were short staffed. Problem was, as we waited for our pizza, other tables that came in after us, received appetizers and/or salads. Yes, the thin pizza is super crispy on the perimeter of the pizza! Unfortunately the center loses the crispness and it doesn't help when the pizza is cut up in squares instead of slices. The service is great if you dine-in, but know you order at the counter and your food is brought to you. Do NOT order appetizers if you dine-in unless you like eating everything all at once. I ordered a few times recently and both times was talked to disrespectly. Rushes me off the phone and then when I call back because my order takes two hours to get to me I get hung up on by him. Longtime resident of Downers Grove here and have ordered from Angelo's since forever. Today I sent my son to pick up an order of two pizzas with a coupon for 3 dollars off. You heard it 3. This was an old coupon. However, it had no expiration date on it. They refused to let my son use it because they no longer give out coupons. That's all finding good but they did before and if they didn't want people to wait to use it they maybe should've put an expiration date on it. I called the manager on duty right away. Instead of apologizing, she just continued to back up her claim that they don't use coupons. 3 dollars. You heard me 3!
