I ordered two Chicago thin crust pizzas--one well done and one extra crispy--because I wanted to compare the difference. Unfortunately, I didn't think either pizza was cooked enough. The well-done pizza arrived cold, and the extra crispy pizza was actually thicker and doughier. In my opinion, neither pizza resembled a true Chicago thin crust. I also paid an extra $3 for fresh mozzarella, assuming it would be added along with the regular shredded cheese. Instead, it appeared to completely replace the shredded cheese, which was disappointing and not what I expected. Skuddlebutts is synonymous with normal thin crust pizza. It's been a staple of the Downers Grove area now for as long as I can remember. The buy one get one deal is pretty awesome which made it a perfect choice for the small super bowl get together I had. Back in the day, I used to think their thin-crust was one of the best around, though I hadn't tried it for quite a while. Mostly because I live in downtown now instead of out west. But we were out there during the super bowl recently and ordered from the butts. I was slightly disappointed. Sometimes it's hard to judge, but I don't know if it had always just been image inflation in my mind or I've just had better pizza over time and so it's not as good. Lazy Sunday we ordered pizza delivery. I placed my order online and somehow I accidentally ordered 4 instead of two pizzas. May be because they have 2 for 1 on pizza. Bought a Groupon with a $5 credit and paid a total of $.83 for four slices of pizza and two sodas. So I'd say it was pretty good. :) We did go at about 1:30 when the slices had been sitting awhile, but we were pleased with the density, amount of sauce, cheese, and toppings. I've been coming here for years! Besides the great service I get, the food is always on point! My first experience with them was for New Years! Last minute some chain unreliable pizza joint failed to bring the food I ordered and I had tons of guests over! Luckily, Skuddlebutts took my order last minute (9pm New Year's Eve!!!) and gave me a great deal! They showed up an hour later with 3 deep dish pizzas, which was half the wait time compared to most places! I asked them to give me the best three appetizers they had, they gave mozzarella sticks, buffalo wings and a huge salad! Between the pizza and appetizers I think everyone ended up with two plates!! They also gave me a veggie plate and deep dish cookie free! They SAVED my butt! The night ended up awesome thanks to them! Other than that first impression, and my weekly ordering of deep dish pizza! I had them cater for our church youth group event! They set up grills outside and provided great burgers and ribs for 3 days! They came fully prepared and the staff that came along had the most up respect it was great to have them apart of our weekend! They even provided us with entertainment with their mascot! Honestly, the only reason we hadn't previously tried Skuddlebutts (we are about equidistant from this and the Glen Ellyn location) is that we didn't want to brave Ogden or Roosevelt traffic on a weeknight. Finally a Sunday came along with a pizza craving and we went with it. We didn't know about the permanent BOGO offer, so that was a nice surprise -- funny part being you have to get the same size; no free small with a paid medium! No, you must get MORE pizza to get it free! (or less, I suppose.) We went with a medium cheese and a medium pepperoni and were quite pleased. Crust: Very thin, crisp, almost crackery but not with any crumblyness. Middle of the pizza was a bit floppier but still fairly sturdy. Not a strong flavor. Sauce: a pleasant, tomatoey, savory flavor -- nothing strongly stood out. Cheese: Just the right amount, broke nicely and didn't all come off at once, savory and tasty. the pepperoni was buried under the cheese and provided an extra, salty, slightly spicy bite. The prices for a single pizza aren't super-cheap, but if you factor in two for that price, it's definitely a bargain. I appreciate that they also have whole wheat crust as an option, I think we'll have to try that at some point. A small piewill feed 4 people, add a glass of milk and you are set. Each pizza comes with one topping and they give the option to select a different topping for your free pizza. (Addtl. toppings are $2/ea and well worth every penny.) I would like to offer some words of advice when ordering other plates off the menu. Some of my favorites are the Fried Chicken, Pineapple Honey Hot wings and... that's about it. I have tried their Italian Beef several times. When you ask for it dry, we mean dry. We got 2 medium pizzas with two toppings each for just $13.50 total. I didn't think it was too much pricier than competitors. We ordered before we left home and it was ready by the time we reached the restaurant. The first time we ordered from this place, I got a blackened chicken sandwich not thinking that it would be very good, but willing to try. It exceeded my expectations! I mean, it was actually blackened...with real spices. So good! One last thought on the matter: The bacon is packed with flavor. The sausage isn't just texture. Tomatoes are fresh. Cheese is generous. Just got our food that we ordered from here through Yelp! Got a free pizza for buying one, guess that's the whole "always 2 for 1" thing they're advertising. Thin crust pizza is pretty good! We just got a plain cheese, so I can't speak for how good their toppings are, but I'm definitely satisfied with their cheese. Their '3 little pigs' sandwich was "really good" according to my fiancé, and their mozzarella sticks aren't the best, but I've had a lot worse. So, my husband's employer catered some food from them and he said the meatballs were delicious and the pizza wasnt bad. So we recently moved to the area and they offer 2 for 1 pizza so I decided to give it a shot. I ordered pizzas for the kids, and they were okay, not chicago neighborhood great, but passable (my kids like little Ceasar's so what do I care), they are a little smaller than expected but oh well. My "beef" with the food is literally the italian beef. I really had a taste for one and my hubby said the meatballs were delicious, so I decided to try. Being from Chicago, it s a favorite of mine and I am picky, but have had a few so so ones, even bland on ocassion in desperation. I figured if it wasnt delicious, it would probably at least be okay.... WRONG! This one was actually the worst one I have ever tasted, and I have had maaaannnyyyy. The color of the beef was almost blond, as well as the au juice. It was rubbery (now I have had grayish rubber), but blond rubber is a first. I thought to myself upon first viewing, iiiikkkkk, it looks disgusting, but looks can sometimes be deceiving. However, it tastes worse than it looks, sigh.... It is not even real italian beef bread, which should be crusted so that when you have it dipped, it will be super soggy, but still intact. The bread this was served on is the store bought 6 pack of sub sandwich bread, that is not even crusted, but a pale white. The bread is mooooosh and tasteless, but the au ju is a pale liquid, and the flavor is almost buttery and has taken over. I honestly cant even eat it, and I have had sub par, that I have still managed to choke down. I took pics, but they dont even do the taste and look justice. Tried back again I like the buy one get one on the pizza so that and the okay taste of the pizza is the only reason I still give it 3 stars over all the crust even when asking for extra crispy was very flakey it reminds me of the frozen Roma pizza crust without the crips you get from cooking it in the oven. Food is alright, the Pulled pork is tasty, but the main issue is delivery. We used the online service, and it said 40 min. Nearly an hour later, I rang and was told our food just left for delivery. Since we live 5 min away, I didn't have an issue with that. Except when it still had not turned up 20 MORE minutes later, I called AGAIN. I was told the driver wasn't picking up his phone. At this point, our food was STILL not here. I told the employee that if I didn't get the food in 10 min, I wanted a refund. At that point, it would have been in the delivery car for 35 min, and ridiculously late. I waited 5 more min, gave up, and went to 5 Guys to get our dinner that we should have eaten TWO HOURS earlier. The driver showed up 10 minutes after I left, so that's just shy of an HOUR in the delivery car. Obviously, I asked for a refund. Their excuse? "We didn't realize you were so close to us. " The kicker is that we had ordered food from them a few times ALREADY! It's not the dark ages, there is GPS to find a house. Unacceptable! read more
