Been trying to check this place for awhile and I'm so glad I was finally able to come! My friend and I walked in around 8ish on a Tuesday night and we only had to wait about like 20 minutes to get seated. I loved the darker ambiance with comfier booth seats + bar seats. The server seated us and told us where the bathroom was, which was good to know beforehand. Even the menu was really pretty and was good to have as a prop when taking pics of the cocktails. The lighting was just the right amount to take pics of the decoration behind the bar + the drinks using night mode! I loved how extensive the menu was, organized based on their hard liquor base (gin/tequila/vodka/etc). There were so many unique cocktails with the touch of Japanese flavors/fruits which we loved! It doesn't get too loud so you can hear each other well. The table behind us was being really loud and it was bothering us, but before we had to say anything a waitress came to ask them to lower their volume which we appreciated b/c it was affecting our experience and the vibe of the place. I have been chasing this speakeasy bar as it has been in my list of bars to try. I finally got to experience the establishment after it closed on the East Village and then opening a pop up in Hotel Eventi. I came with a buddy on a Saturday evening. There was a line outside, but not super long, so about a 15 minute wait max? Upon entering, we were asked if we wanted to check our coats, which we deferred. Once a table was available, someone from the main room would pop up from another closed door to lead us to our table. This was only 8PM and this place was packed. I ordered a few different drinks to try. Smoke Gets in Your Eyes ($23) - My buddy got this drink and the presentation was on point. A nice smoky whisky drink. Take You There ($23) - A whisky drink with a curry taste to it. Super unique and it was done surprisingly well. Buena Vista ($21) - I wanted to get a mezcal mixed cocktail and is was this or Serenade. Both weren't very appealing to me, but I ended up trying this one and regretted getting it. Because tonic water was one of the ingredients, this for sure tasted bland and the mezcal taste was heavily muted. This place is a true gem. This is the new location and is right off Bleecker Street. Be prepared to wait and also no parties bigger than 4. The cocktails are unlike any other. They are all Asian and Japanese inspired and they know what they're doing. Think milk washed, unique ingredients and flavors you've never tasted before. They are well worth the price to me! My favorite bar in NYC right now. There are no reservations and you can't just put your name down and explore the neighborhood. When you get there, you just wait in line and hope a spot opens up. Luckily, my group of four only had to wait 5 minutes. Parties of two were waiting at least 30 minutes on the day I went. My friends and I decided to get two rounds of drinks since we loved the first round so much. We tried a good variety, and all of them were quite delicious. We tend to choose cocktails where the alcohol is more masked. Drink highlights for me were the painted paradise and street scene. The painted paradise was a lighter drink but really packed a punch in flavor. The matcha foam on street scene was creamy and strong in matcha. The waiter said that they're going to change their seasonal drinks in a few weeks. Excited to come back to try them. read more

Angel's share is a quaint hidden bar in the west village with a menu of drinks that will have you confused for 5 minutes. The cocktails aren't confusing but choosing just one will be very difficult. The Japanese techniques really show in the quality of each cocktail. I got the one with lemon, white chocolate and truffle which I was apprehensive about but ended up really enjoying the umami taste. I think it's a fun place to stop by before dinner as it's easy to walk in and it's a fun place to chat and catch up. They don't take more than 4 people in a party though! read more

Overall, the drinks were well balanced, not too strong, and may tend to more on the mild side. Would have preferred to have the drinks pack a bit more punch, but it's great for ppl who like lighter more refreshing drinks 1. My fave drink was Danny boy- their twist of a gin martini with the addition of an orange. Well balanced taste profile, tastes much better than a typical martini, but packs a punch, since I definitely felt something. 2. Over hyped, rude service, and over priced drinks. I'll bet you'll have a much better time at Up & Up, Mace, Dante, or Bar Piscellino (which are all within a 10 min walk). Our party of two got there at 9pm and waited outside for 45 min (was expected and totally cool with that), then got inside to front waiting room and waited for another 30 min (again totally cool with that). Saw multiple parties of 2 and 3 leave while waiting. Then finally got seated at the bar - 3 minutes later someone comes up to us and tells us we now need to give up our seats because a party of 3 will sit there so then needed to go back and wait (no apologies or anything). Finally got reseated at the bar, and then the bar tender 1.) Had to ask us twice for our drink order because he forgot and then 2.) Gave us our drinks at different timings (at least 5 min apart). Again no apologies or acknowledgement. To top it off they ended up giving shots to other folks at the bar (for I guess some other mishap). The drinks were fine (nothing better than what you'd find at a number of the other cocktail bars in the area). Normally I'd let one of these things slide, but for $21-$23 cocktails and having multiple points in the evening where felt unwelcomed really rubbed me and my partner the wrong way. TLDR: I thought the drinks were pretty good and quite creative, but I felt that the ABV was quite low. Left sober after drinking 4 drinks. I was super excited about this cocktail bar, given its reputation. All of the drinks sounded extremely interesting with flavor combinations I have not thought of or perhaps explored yet. However, every drink we had tasted seemed extremely light in the alcohol. In my group, we each had about four drinks. I go to cocktail bars quite often and if I have this much to drink at DCP, Martiny's or anywhere else, I would be pretty drunk by the end. Im no alcoholic, but I find it strange that the same experience did not occur to us at Angel Share. Perhaps I'm missing something? Or maybe we perpetually ordered all the low ABV drinks. Regardless, the drinks were pretty good. I enjoyed the the Painted Paradise, a fig leaf shochu with pandan, honeydew, and jasmine; the Harvest, a clarified lavender cocktail; and the Raisin the Roof which is a brown butter washed dessert cocktail with with pineapple and cream cheese. The Painted Paradise is one of the few drinks with pandan where you can truly taste the pandan and being southeast Asian, I loved it. The space itself is quite cute, great for dates. Dimly lit. Amazing speakeasy / cocktail bar in SoHo. Would recommend to anyone who wants to try unique cocktails. We waited about 45 minutes to get a table for 3 on a Saturday night. FYI - they do not allow parties bigger than 4, and do not split up groups. We ordered the flirtibird, cheek to cheek, mi gran pasión, and maybe the maiden voyage (?). The cheek to cheek and mi gran pasión were our favorite of the 4. We ended up ordering second rounds of the flirtibird and pasión drink. The flirtibird was a sweet/salty plum shochu drink. The pasión drink was a sweet strawberry/pineapple tequila drink. The maiden voyage (?) was a delicious clear yogurt mango drink that was so unique. The last drink we ordered was the cheek to cheek and this one you have to try! This drink you eat with a spoon - you don't drink it. It's a berry rum drink topped with mascarpone. Loved all the drinks! Was in the area with a coworker in town and found that this placed had reopened in west village. We decided to check it out. When you pass by, the entrance is the set of stairs that go down next to the building with the numbered address. That would be the waiting room. The line starts outside and once you add your name they run through so don't leave and come back to miss your spot. We waited about 30ish min for a group of 3. Parties of 2 are easier as they have a faster turnover. The venue is medium sized. For drinks I don't think you could go wrong. I got the papaya and friends (tequila based) as well as take you there (whiskey based). Both drinks were easy to drink and smooth. This was the most frustrating and disappointing waiting experience I've ever had. It was absolutely not worth wasting two beautiful hours of my evening on such chaos. At first, we were told there would be a 15-minute wait outside and an additional 25 minutes inside, which was reasonable. After about 20 minutes, we were led into the waiting room. So far, so good. We were clearly told that we were second on the list for large groups. The first group was seated, and then another group was about to be taken in. We politely reminded the staff that we were next. At that point, the front desk staff changed their story, saying that the other group had arrived before us and that we were only allowed inside because we were cold, which is simply not true. They had called our name, not invited us in out of concern. I asked to see the list, and that group was not on it. After some back and forth, the front desk staff finally admitted that the group was a colleague's friend. That's what truly confused and frustrated me. If that was the case, they could have said so from the beginning instead of repeatedly questioning my memory and insisting I was wrong. To make matters worse, the staff member then aggressively asked me multiple times where I work, clearly implying that only people who "know someone" can skip the line. This was an incredibly unpleasant experience -- completely undeserved and avoidable. I sincerely hope no one else has to go through something like this. read more

Angel's Share (yes, Angel's Share!) has reopened in the West Village after losing its home in the East Village in 2022 after almost 30 years. Currently just starting a soft opening, Angel's Share is already overrun. We arrived at just after 5 pm and the line was out the door. Clearly word of mouth had spread quickly. The room was packed within minutes with the same vibe as before. The drinks were amazing. Started with the Smoke Gets in Your Eyes since that is the first cocktail we had at Angel's Share many years ago. It was perfect. It is extremely hard to recreate an institution, particularly one that is internationally known as one of the early leaders, but they have done it. Food service coming next week. Flirtibird is probably in my top 3 cocktails I've ever tried. I really enjoyed the previous locations, more than this current one, but luckily drinks are still of the highest quality. Drinks are unique, well balanced, and just overall great. I'm taking away a star for the fact that any group more than 2 is considered a large party so the wait to get in isn't fun.
