The food is good not the best you will ever eat but you will be satisfied. Breakfast is my go-to at Angie's. They also serve traditional Dominican breakfast (Mangu) which is good again not the best I've ever had but good. You can also get American and Dominican lunch/dinner items. The prices are very budget friendly just be sure to pay attention to what you order and add it up yourself, I've been the victim of miscalculating once or twice. The service can improve immensely but it's kind of like an "it is what it is" situation. I always prefer to go in, order my food and wait for it there. If it's busy you will wait and possibly be asked two or three times "what you order?" but it beats calling your order in waiting about 20 minutes to pick up and getting there to find out you still have to wait because it's not completed. Or worse waiting forever for the delivery and risking the chance that it's all wrong or things are missing. The servers there are usually juggling the in-house business, the take-out orders, the phone orders and at least two side conversations with each other in Spanish. read more

I came here a saturday morning around 10 with a good friend, and it was full. The waitress was extremely nice and kindly asked a man sitting by himself at a booth to move to the bar for us. We sat down and ordered, I a spinach omelette with french fries, and my friend a beef sausage 2 egg combo. The wait was a typical diner wait period, it was loud which is ok, lots of locals chatting it up, pretty homey that way. The problem was with our food, which arrived after a 20 minute wait. My friends eggs were slathered in american cheese slices. The waitress apologetically asked if that was ok, because she knew that's not what he ordered. My friend said it was fine, and he scraped off the cheese (it was a lot of cheese) and ate it that way. My omelette came with home fries instead of french fries, and when my friend politely pointed that out to the waitress she took it back. I waited another 15 minutes for my actual meal, in the mean time i scarfed down the toast that came with the order I was so hungry. By the time my meal came back, the omelette was cold and a little rubbery ( you know how cold eggs get) but i ate it anyway, i'm generally not too picky. I noticed they had attempted to reheat my food because the plate was super hot. At least the fries were hot, though it looked like they were battered with a kind of tempura-like substance because the edges were flaky...? I give the place a 2 star because it was not amazing and then the cold food and wrong orders made it even less not amazing. I mean, this is the kind of food I can make at home, if I'm going to order and get the wrong, cold food, then I could have just made it myself and not have had to pay anyone for it. Although staff is largely Hispanic, the Spanish omelet is not traditional (has peas, soft, cooked carrots, onions, no salsa). They put cream in coffee. My boyfriend and I frequent Angie's spot whenever we feel like getting a cheap, diner breakfast, we live 20 minutes away walking every time from our house to get a short stack of pancakes and grits, after our third time here I have to say, the sub par food is not enough for the horrible service you are getting. I love Angie's breakfast food; very authentic to Dominican cuisine. The preparation of food dishes is delivered very fast and I love that. However, the waiters taking the orders seem to be very lazy and inconsiderate; it's not cool for them to appear that they are occupied and busy when you come in and sit at the counter waiting close to 30 minutes just to take your order. First of all, they didn't have a CHEESE OMLETTE as an option of order. So i had to order a ham and cheese omlette and i put NO HAM on the special instructions area. I also asked for fries instead of home fries but got home fries. Delivery took 2 hours! I called them back to tell them the order was wrong and to send the correct one. One of the workers spoke in Spanish and said "just give her fries and thats it." So I told the guy on the phone, its not about just the fries. You gave me ham when i clearly wrote no ham. Lot of waitresses standing around while customers are clearly waiting to order or pay. Way too busy paying attention to phones, or having conversations with each other, or tending to their children or little brothers or sisters (in any case, literal children) in the seating area. Basically, really awful service. And they say they can't give you black coffee because it doesn't come out of the machine black? I didn't get it. Then I saw a dude get black coffee, proceeded to order my refill, specifically black, and was met with unspoken, completely facial, incredulity. Food was sub-par. I've been here only once. I was in town visiting a friend back in August 2012. The service was absolutely horrible. I don't know if the girl was new or what. I sat at the counter. It took her about 30min to come over to take my order. And that was only because I called her over to take my order. Then, she tried to serve me with plastic utensils while the person next to me got the normal stainless steel. No, I was not getting takeout. Every time I stay in New York, I make a conscious effort to never eat at the same places. The last time around I happened to be staying over on Chauncey St., and stumbled upon Angie's on my way to the train. Let me say the loud, divey vibe going on in here was endearing. The crowd was a mix of old regulars up on the bar stools and hungover millennials pouring out of the booths. Definitely a good brunch spot if you have a tight budget and just want to down gallons of cheap coffee after a salty, greasy breakfast. Food is your run of the mill dinner breakfast/brunch/lunch and some Dominican food. Can be a very good combo, imo. I always felt that it hit the spot. I'm not normally picky about customer service, so I guess my only negative comment would be regarding that. The shift changes seemed to be unorganized so you could sit down ready to order, and all of the employees would be eating at the counter and talking, not paying attention to anyone walking in. Maybe we just got there at a bad time? It wasn't the end of the world, but sometimes when you're hangry, you just need some instant gratification. After sitting and being ignored, I walk up to the counter and asked to be served. The waitress is told that table one is waiting. These people with negative reviews are not being fair. I came to the neighborhood mid May and had fantastic meals. My son moved nearby a yr ago and this is his fav. The fried potatoes are thebest I have ever had in my life. The portions are insanely large. The four of us ate there so many times......Even went there alone for takeout and they were fun to chatwith while I was waiting. Our bills with drinks and extra sides for three 20 somethings and me never even made it to $20. I felt like a thief! It is noisy and clean and everything you should expect from a great neighborhood diner. I am from California and all we have in my neighborhood that is not Indian food/ Asian is one place. It is great but four times the price and it is a diner as well. Yes, it is crazy in there at times and you may only see the staff twice, but it is wild in there.....give em a break and ask again for what you need.
