I really wanted to love Angler. I'm a huge seafood fan, have been to quite a few Michelin-starred restaurants, and was excited to try their "Cook For You" experience. Unfortunately, the meal never quite lived up to the price point or reputation. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining room is undeniably beautiful. The open kitchen and live-fire cooking setup are fun to watch, and you can see the vision behind the design, even if the decor won't be everyone's taste.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That said, there were details that felt surprisingly out of place for a restaurant where you're spending roughly $300+ per person. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restroom was dirty during our visit, and the faucet was broken, which immediately took away from the overall experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] What disappointed me most was the inconsistency in service. Throughout the meal, we were served courses before receiving plates and had to wait for them to be brought over afterward. We were also served dishes without the proper silverware and had to ask for forks and oyster forks multiple times. At one point, oyster forks were brought out with the wrong course, removed, and then weren't available when the oysters actually arrived. Drink service was similarly slow. A refill took a surprisingly long time, and after finishing our meal, we waited quite a while to get the check. It felt like our server may have gone on break because we couldn't find anyone and eventually had to wave someone down. I also noticed inconsistency in how dishes were being presented. For example, our server instructed us to eat the bluefin tuna tartare by scooping it with the rice crisp, while a neighboring table was told to use a spoon so they could get all the layers together in a single bite. After trying it both ways, the spoon was clearly the better approach. The rice crisp broke apart easily, and you miss much of what the dish is trying to accomplish. For a tasting menu at this level, I would expect more consistency in how guests are guided through the experience. As for the food: The Bluefin Tuna Tartare with Kelp and Rice Crisp was my least favorite dish of the night. It was extremely sour, and the jelly topping overwhelmed the tuna. I found myself digging through the garnish just to eat the fish itself, which also lacked the buttery, melt-in-your-mouth quality I was expecting. The Dry-Aged Kingfish Crudo with Turnip and Kosho was decent. The flavors were pleasant, but I generally prefer crudo that has a softer texture and richer mouthfeel. The Oysters with Smoked Chili Butter were excellent and one of the better bites of the evening. As someone who normally prefers raw oysters, I was pleasantly surprised. The Lettuce and Herb Salad with Meyer Lemon was fine, though it felt like an odd choice for the third course of a tasting menu. The Uni Toast was the standout dish of the night. Rich, balanced, and exactly what I hoped it would be. The Hen of the Woods Mushroom was enjoyable, but I didn't think the sauce complemented the mushroom particularly well. The Hand-Dived Scallop was another highlight and one of the strongest dishes we received. The Whole Sea Bream with Coconut and Svarnadwipa was good, though not something I would specifically order again. It ended up being the only truly substantial savory course, and honestly, without it I would have left hungry. I would have preferred a meat course somewhere in the progression to create a more balanced tasting menu. What made this course more frustrating was that the famous Angler Potato with Taleggio Sauce arrived well after the fish had already been served and partially eaten. It felt like the potato was intended to accompany the sea bream but was forgotten and sent out later. Had they arrived together, the pairing might have made more sense. Instead, it felt disconnected and further highlighted the lack of coordination in service throughout the evening. Unfortunately, the potato itself was also disappointing. The exterior texture was nice, but the inside was remarkably bland. There wasn't enough sauce to elevate it, and the overall result tasted like a very expensive baked potato that forgot to bring flavor with it. It was also my wife's birthday, and while the staff did acknowledge it, the celebration felt underwhelming. They brought out a candle in a holder, but no dedicated birthday dessert or special touch beyond that. It felt strange for a restaurant operating at this level. Dessert itself wasn't much better. The sundae included in the tasting menu was noticeably salty. I'm sure that was intentional, but it detracted from what should have been a pleasant finish to the meal. Overall, there were certainly a few standout dishes, particularly the uni toast, scallop, and oysters. However, the inconsistent service, execution issues, and several disappointing courses made it difficult to justify the cost. For a restaurant operating at this level and price point, I expected a much more polished experience.

Wow what an incredible dining experience. Every single dish was packed with flavor and beautifully executed. The cooked oysters were outstanding; the sauce was so good I could have eaten it by the bowl! We also ordered the crab fried rice special, which was absolutely phenomenal and one of the highlights of the meal. The potato served with a rich melted cheese sauce was another standout - we ended up asking for extra sauce on the side because it was that good. The Ahi tartare was fresh and delicious, and the white asparagus with shaved truffle was worth every penny. The truffle took the dish to another level. We finished with the chocolate bar dessert, which was the perfect ending to an amazing meal. The service was impeccable from start to finish. Jack, along with the rest of the team, was attentive, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience feel special. If I had to give the tiniest piece of feedback--and this is truly nitpicking - it would be that the large ice cubes in the whiskey cocktails are a bit tall for the lightweight glasses. As the ice melts, it can shift and bump against the sides of the glass, leading to a couple of minor spills. But honestly, that's reaching for something to critique. Overall, Angler exceeded every expectation. Exceptional food, outstanding service, and a memorable dining experience. I can't wait to come back.

Finally got to tryout Angler with my husband and kids. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The open kitchen was beautiful with the huge open fires.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was excellent. We all got the lunch prix fixe on Saturday. It was a treat with oysters, very juice chicken or sea bream with crispy skin, fresh crisp salad with herbs. The Parker rolls had a nice smoked flavor. The soft serve as well as both gelatos hit the spot at the end. Would definitely like to go back and try other dishes.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Angler has great ambiance: the inside is like a charming hunting lodge, and the open kitchen is quite impressive with its roaring fires.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]On a sunny day, the view of the Embarcadero and the Bay Bridge is really nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is outstanding. Everything we got was quite good and a few dishes were notable. We got the sea bream and we each agreed it was the best piece of fish we had ever eaten. It was butterflied and roasted, rendering it crispy, smoky, juicy, and flavorful. The quality of the fish was striking, and easy to appreciate as it was so simply seasoned. We all also really liked the Hot Nashville style frog legs. Not a lot of places have frog legs on the menu, and these were expertly prepared. The breading was even, consistent, and crispy. The meat inside was tender and juicy. With the hot sauce, it made for an elevated and tasty take on hot Nashville chicken. Finally, the ice cream sundae is simple but also really, really good. The cocoa nibs give it a nice texture, and the caramel is deeply rich. It was a fantastic end to a great and memorable meal.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was warm, moody, and cozy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was timely, professional, and friendly! The food, however, was probably the weakest part of the experience. The potato is noted as a signature menu item, though it was quite bland. The fish portion was small and not really memorable, and even the ice cream was lacking in flavor. Perhaps different menu items may be better but this selection was fairly simle

Stellar restaurant. It's pricy but the quantity of food is shocking. Standouts include the oysters, bread, Thai style fish, and bullfrog. I thought the steak was just all right. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has nice decor and a great view along the embarcadero.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was good as well, handling dietary restrictions, and the next course always arriving just in time. One nitpick is the server took away the salad assuming we were done but we would've enjoyed keeping our vegetables a little longer.

Not enough great things to say about this place! Went for my sisters birthday and we had an array of food. The branzino has got to the be best fish dish of my life, no exaggeration. The fresh diver scallops were excellent and the service was unbeatable. An awesome server really does make the night more memorable. I'll have to swing by when I am in the city again.

We came here for a birthday dinner. I definitely would recommend uber. It looks difficult to drive and park on a weeknight during rush hour. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has a pretty view of the Bay Bridge. It definitely has a cute nautical vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was friendly and attentive. Our waitress gave great suggestions. Food was top tier. We did all seafood dishes with bread and salad. The uni toast was my favorite, along with the sea bream. The needle fish was unique and subtle in taste. Highly recommend for a try!

We came here for my birthday, when we arrived they handed me a hand signed card by the staff which was a really nice touch and welcoming. It was an interesting service concept as we had like 3/4 different servers all helping us at the same time but they were extremely attentive, friendly, offered great suggestions. We started by ordering bubbles and a round of drinks. I got the coffee Negroni (AMAZING), I will never order an espresso martini again. My boyfriend got the duck fat old fashioned which also amazing, perfectly balanced. We started with the staple blue fin tuna, an absolute must! Presentation was great, and it tasted even better. We also got a side of the Parker rolls which were buttery perfection. Also ordered the radicchio salad which sound odd but is another absolute must! For dinner we got the mushrooms, shrimp and the sea bream. As you can see from the photo, the mushrooms were such a small portion and super overpriced. I personally do not order shrimp if it is not completely cleaned and when we asked they said it was and that they only left the head on which is bit true. I had to peel them which was super frustrating and hard for me because I never do it, i regret not sending that back. The sea bream was the absolute best thing we had, I inhaled it so fast, it was like fluffy pillows. One of the best fish I have ever had. By the end we were so full I had no room for desert but I saw they had mini versions of their deserts so we went with the caramel sundae and am so glad we did! It was the perfect size and sweetness to end the dinner. Overall great experience but definitely pricey. Bill came out to $400 for the two of us but makes sense for the Michelin star caliber food and service. Oh and they mentioned they have happy hour M-F 5-6.30pm so we will definitely be going back for that!

Have been here four times in the last year and Angler is definitely one of my favorite spots. I also didn't realize they had a Michelin star, but they deserve it because they are one of the best seafood forward restaurants in the city. In my last visit, we ordered the following: +Parkerhouse rolls & cultured seaweed butter ($16) - love myself some Parker rolls but the seaweed butter is the star +Raddichio and Alium X.O ($23) - XO flavor is really good but this dish is a little messy lol. Highly recommend using the bibs they give you. +Ember Oysters with Smoked Chilli Butter ($38) - I did not like the chilli butter as much this time around but still a great dish +Whole Sea Bream ($68) - MUST GET THIS! The fish is cooked to perfection and you can even ask for a substitute sauce if you don't like coconut and sarandwipa sauce +potato with talegio sauce ($22) - potato is good but the sauce ie just okay Overall, I throughly enjoyed my dinner here and can't wait to come back. If you have a chase reserve card, you can use your open table $150 benefit here as well.

Before addressing the food, I have to address the parking situation -- I don't often go to the city so I had forgotten just how difficult it is to find parking near Embarcadero. we couldn't find street parking and eventually had to settle on $25 parking at United SF Parking on Main Street. we had a 12pm lunch reservation and was 40 minutes late struggling for parking but the staff was very gracious about it and still seated us [[HIGHLIGHT]]however, the one perk to being located near the water is the great view -- I can definitely see why this is a prime spot for date night because the ambiance was very romantic[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] in regards to the food, my boyfriend and I both ordered off the Quick Catch Menu (I believe it's only available around lunch). the menu consists of their pacific oysters, a main entree that you choose between sea bream or chicken, and dessert which is either soft serve or sorbet. the cost for all 3 is $55. we also ordered the popular parker house rolls on the side -- pacific oysters: I agree with the other reviews when they said Angler is known for their seafood. I've never had oysters that tasted this fresh before. these are easily the best oysters I've ever had -- sea bream: this is what my boyfriend ordered and he absolutely loved it. I tried a piece and the cook on the fish was perfect. the outside was crispy but the inside was still tender -- chicken: I ordered the half chicken and it was also cooked to perfection. the skin was perfectly crispy as well but the inside was still moist. the only feedback I have to give is on the sauce. it was a BBQ sauce but the sauce tasted much more of mustard for me -- side note on the sea bream and chicken: both came with an amazing side salad. the leaves were buttery and crisp, and the lemon dressing was refreshing and light -- parker house rolls: I actually wish I skipped it on these and got the scallops instead. it's an easy appetizer but it didn't stand out to me -- soft serve: this is the dessert everyone knows Angler for. my boyfriend loved it but I found it a touch too salty for my taste but I understand it comes down to personal preference. I think next time I personally will go for the sorbet keep in mind for the bill, there's an automatic 20% gratuity and an additional 6% for the SF Mandate Fee. this brought our bill to $170 for 2 people overall, I do understand why this place is popular -- their seafood is incredible and their protein is cooked to perfection so I'm glad I got to try it :)

What an amazing meal! The staff treated us warmly, taking our jackets and backpacks as we sat down. We started off the night with some cocktails, I got an espresso martini inspired drink but it was a little more spunky. It was strong and didn't have that signature velvet coffee creamer taste but still delicious. We were recommended the grilled oysters and they were a HIT. Buttery rich and fresh, the sauce made for a most delectable bite. The oysters themselves were large and juicy while the sauce made for a well rounded bite. Dipping the rolls into the sauce was also delicious. Most of what we ordered was beyond expectation but some of the standouts were the the dungenous crab with garlic rice and the spiny lobster. The crab was so meaty while the rice was succulent and full of flavor making for a great pairing. The lobster was also cooked to perfection, despite the larger size the meat was still so tender not gummy at all! The lobster sauce was also divine and unlike anything I've had before! The tuna tartar was also quite the treat! The rice cracker was so fun to break apart and the tuna was fresh and contrasted nicely with the jelly! Yum I would love to come back, in the meantime I'll be dreaming about this meal :)

Bread and butter were tasty but it's hard for me to hate any bread n butter

The menu read deliciously to me but, unfortunately, nothing stood out. Rather, something was slightly off putting with every dish, aside from the bread and butter lol. Service was wonderful though. Five stars for sure: informative, attentive, charming without overstaying. I'll also note that the food all looked very beautiful. Incredible feast for the eyes. Some dishes we got: Aged black cod: crispy skin, texture was perfect. Dish was too salty for me. Half duck: beautiful. Dry. Wild mushrooms: sauce didn't made it too moist and didn't seem to complement the mushrooms. Also too salty. Lettuce and herbs: salad dressing was very watery so it was pretty splashy to eat. Very strong fish/umami flavor that reminded me of fish sauce. The bit of heat was nice tho. The most off putting part of this experience was lack of price transparency. I realize there are other restaurants that do this too but doesn't make it suck any less. "Service charges" and "sf mandate" added 20% and 6% accordingly. I wasn't necessarily looking for small print fees but I didn't exactly expect to pay 20% tip, 20% service charge and a 6% fee on top of the prices listed... 46% non-food costs seems nuts. Made the entire experience so off putting but I'm not going to skip out on tipping cause who knows if any of the workers get a cut of that "service charge."

Can I get updates about the reservation I made last week?

Can someone tell me what the price for eating meals here are?

Hi Steven, We're glad you're curious! The price of your meal depends purely on what you decide to order and when you decide to join us. You can find our lunch, dinner, and happy hour menus by visiting anglerrestaurants.com/menu so please let us know…

Does this place serve frog legs?

We do indeed! Currently on our menu are Hot Fried Frog Legs with Cardamom Crème Fraîche.

How do you take off the skin and do I eat the sea l bread or the skate wing protein part only?

Hi Jackson, We remove the skin very carefully and take deep respect for the product. Thank you!

Hi, are reservations required to sit at the bar for happy hour/dinner?

Hi Tina, our bar is first come, first serve. While our full dinner menu is offered from 5pm - close all week, Happy Hour is available from 5pm - 6:30pm Tuesday through Saturday. Please feel free to walk in and check in with the hostess about bar…

Any special events happening here for New Years ? Thank you

    Vaccination card required?

No vaccination required. At least I don't think so. After waiting over 30 min to get my drink order taken, I left. The hostess didn't check for them though.

I'm unable to make a reservation for a party of 1 - through their website/Resy (2+ only). Is it possible? Or do they not accept parties of 1?

I was able to make a reservation for 1. I would try the restaurant main page to make a reservation

Can you bring a dog on the patio?

Hello Angelica, yes we welcome dogs on the patio, and have special treats for our furry friends. See you soon!

Is there a specific dress code? looking for an anniversary restaurant and would like to dress up without feeling over dressed

Like most places in SF it varies. If you were in a dress or blazer + tie you'd feel fine but someone will be there in a hoodie. More ppl were dressed nice when I was there but I wouldn't black tie it.

How much does it cost on average for lunch per head (no drinks)?

Depends how much you eat or what you want to order? If you just want bread $12 will fill you up! Now…

Is all seafood whole fish or are fillets also available?

Fillets are available, and they will also fillet whole fish for you. But, everything depends on their menu which changes often.

    Do they accept walk ins?

Yes, they try to accommodate a lot of the walk-in guests but your best bet is to walk in right when they open. We have secured seats 3-4 times that way!

Do they offer any gluten free options?

Yes. Lots of meat and seafood dishes. I recommend the whole chicken.

Moody, warm interior -- think modern speakeasy meets Castro bistro -- with a vibe that works equally well for a date night or a group celebration. Prime ribeye, filet mignon, rack of lamb, grilled octopus, crispy calamari, truffle lobster mac & cheese, shishito peppers, creamy mushrooms, butcher's potatoes, and toasted ciabatta -- it's a full spread, and every component pulls its weight. The lamb and ribeye especially stood out. Four people left genuinely stuffed, which is saying something. The Branzino ($44) -- whole grilled Mediterranean white fish with kimchi, shishito, olive oil, and lemon -- was the perfect counterbalance to all that meat. Clean, bright, and beautifully done. I feel if you are spending close to $1k there's a level of service that should come with it. To start, I requested if we could be accommodated at a booth instead not the tables in the entrance, host said they couldn't do that for our party size of 8, which I understood completely at first. But when I went to the bathroom which is in the back of the restaurant, there was a similar group size in the booth area, so that threw me off. Second, we had ordered appetizers, two different salads. When I asked where was the other salad since we only received one, the server said that I didn't order it, I was talking to my friends about the salad not to them, but if I wanted to order it now, they would put the order in. Several people at my table had to process the bizarre response. My demeanor did change completely after that.I got a "bday shot" moments after that incident, it felt like a save face moment. If it wasn't for my friends and honestly placing our food orders I would have left after the appetizers were brought out. I think I would have had a different experience and review with another server. I'm hesitant to give this place another chance. It is a restaurant on the pricier side which is fine, but that means there should be a higher quality of service provided than other less expensive restaurants.

I have neuropathy and walk with a cane, a situation the afternoon staff graciously accommodated, escorting me upstairs in the elevator and allowing me to elevate my feet on a chair. My friend and I enjoyed our leisurely "big splurge" afternoon, with drinks and delicious lobster. When the shift apparently changed, a different employee (the manager?) came to the table, pulled the chair out from under my feet and said it was against restaurant policy to allow this. He was quite brusque. (It's salient to note we were practically the only people in this quite large restaurant, with miles of empty tables around us.) This effectively ended my visit as my feet would soon be numb. My friend had left a bit earlier, so I gathered my briefcase, coat and purse and made my way to the elevator. The wait staff looked on. Nobody offered a hand. A couple of days later I called management and let them know what happened. They said someone would follow up. Nobody did.

Love this spot! A…read morefriend introduced me to this amazing distillery and restaurant. I had a flight of their amaros and loved them all, followed by some excellent cocktails that highlighted their products. Dinner menu is designed for sharing/family style. Everything was delicious and creative. We started with their crispy chicken skins, a bitter lettuce ceasar, octopus salad, and their duck confit with a surprising corn couscous. Our server was excellent, with full knowledge of their spirits and lots of guidance for tasting. Loved the bright comfortable dining room, with a bit of vintage flair.

Very much appreciated that accommodation. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and tasted even better. There was a special with homemade focaccia, ricotta, pesto, and eggplant + tomato tapenade. I could have eaten a bowl of every ingredient individually, and together they were even better than the sum of the parts. We also had the curry chicken croquettes, citrus caesar, confit octopus, and gnocchi - all fantastic. And the drinks - next level. I had the Sam Fernando and it was dangerously drinkable, I had to order a second. My partner's Bird of Paradise bamboozled us with its clarified coconut milk - so wild to drink something CLEAR that tasted so much like a piña colada! Our other two party members had NA drinks that were also nuanced and delicious. I will very eagerly come back whenever I have the opportunity!

Amazing experience…read more I've been to a lot of steakhouses, and this is by far the best fine-dining experience I've had. The service is top tier. The ribeye was slightly overcooked, and they were quick to fix it to my liking. The food was great and had a unique twist to the typical steakhouse menu. Making the experience new. My fiancé and I had the pleasure of seeing Tyler Florence as he walked by the restaurant, casually greeting everyone. My favorite parts were the music and the drink pricing. It had an old-school club feeling, with a fun vibe that contrasted with the usual uptight, formal feel. Recommend to anyone and everyone.

Filet Mignon is Medium Rare Perfection... Beautiful pink center, warm red ring, crust that had a nice sear. The Bordelaise sauce was rich, slightly sweet, and had that deep red-wine reduction thing going on. But the steak itself had zero salt. The sauce tried its best, but a steak shouldn't need to be drowned to have flavor. M&L Burger. Juicy, But Also... Juicy? That's It. But again: no seasoning. The beef itself was bland. There was a bacon jam or sauce on it that added some smokiness, but when I took a bite without it (just to test), I was met with... nothing. Just wet, unseasoned meat. Parmesan Truffle Fries were legit, crispy, hot, tossed in enough parmesan and truffle. The portion was huge (feeds 2-3 easily). Black Truffle Mac & Cheese. First few bites? Creamy, luxurious, black truffle shavings. But by the fourth or fifth forkful, it got heavy. Missing acid. A little hit of something sour like lemon, would have saved it. Also, the pasta was overcooked. Peaches & Crème Tart was Aggressively sour. The peaches were fine, but the yuzu sauce underneath was so overwhelmingly acidic that it felt like a prank. My face scrunched up like I'd bitten into a live battery. The crème was there somewhere, but it got completely bulldozed. One bite was enough. I left the rest. My dentist would approve. If you do go, order the fries, bring your own salt grinder, and skip the tart unless you enjoy punishment. Service was great btw.
