Angry Troll is a great brewery in downtown Elkin. We went into the taproom which is in the basement of a building with a few different businesses inside. The space is no frills with scant decor and some board games. It's totally how a brewery should be- chill and a place where you can come in totally disgusting after a long hike (like us) and no one bats an eye. I had the IPA which was great. My friend had the hibiscus wheat which she enjoyed and I liked from my taste. Brewtender was super helpful and gave great service. Highly recommend checking this place out. read more

Upon returning to Angry Troll, I am happy to report that the previous issues with the horrible service have been resolved. Our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. All of the food was brought to us at the same time and none of our drinks went empty. As per my last review, the food was great and this time the service was great too. If you are in downtown Elkin, then 222 Public House is THE place to go. It may even be worth the drive itself. My girlfriend and I came to Elkin to go to Skull Camp Brewery and asked some locals where we should go for dinner. Without hesitation, they suggested 222, and we are sure glad that they did. The atmosphere at 222 is not something that you would expect from a sports bar. It has all of the necessities, bar stools, multiple T.V.'s, beer signs, but it also has a very industrial feel to it. There is exposed brick, big wooden beams, and very high ceilings. It is a very cool spot. They offer a number of items on the menu, but I think what they are known for are their brick oven pizzas. We could not decide on one thing so we ended up sampling a number of appetizers. We got a wood fired pizza, pork skins, and nachos. All of these were incredible. The pizza had a nice crunchy crust and had a nice smokey flavor. The homemade pork rinds were delicious. So much better than store bought! 222 also has a good selection of local beers. They even offer a couple from Skull Camp, the local brewery. The thing that topped off the experience was the service. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. We walked away from 222 very fat and happy. We will definitely be back to Elkin and will stop again on our next trip through. read more

Gave this place the benefit of the doubt and tried to go back after a bad experience as there's not much else in Elkin. Tried to go Friday night with my husband. We got there at 9:45 and hostess asked if we minded sitting at the bar. That was fine with us, but there were no seats open and plenty of tables. Walked back over to hostess who said she was going to move some of the underage girls from the bar to a table. Ok?? But can't we just have the table??? We went back to the bar to find seats she promised and it was still packed, no seats anywhere and she couldn't be bothered to stop talking to her friends at the hostess station to help us(young, long blonde hair). We left. Came Saturday bc anywhere can have an off night. It was packed so we waited for a table for about 30 minutes. Didn't mind that at all. What I did mind is that it took an hour and a half to get our food. I ordered an appetizer pretzel(bc i had overheard the waitress apologizing to another table about waiting forever on their food.) We just got nachos and a burger for dinner. It all came out at the same time so the appetizer was pointless. Food was ok, probably bc we were starving by then, but service is terrible and soooooo slow. The table behind us actually complained about their wait too and eventually just asked if they'd box up all their food to go bc they didn't want to wait any longer. read more

In this part of rural North Carolina this is a 5-star experience. In fact, in Elkin or within at least 50 miles of here good luck finding a better bite. On the road from Charlotte to go trout fishing in Virginia we skipped off the Interstate to try this place and avoid the swarm of fast food grease pits and couldn't have been more surprised. You've expect this place to be situated in a hip, cool area of Charlotte, not Elkin. What's a great spot! 222 Public House excels at everything they do. The atmosphere is relaxed, yet inviting. There's an extensive list of beers bottled and on tap and plenty of TVs to watch sporting events. Couple that with good service and friendly folks and it's primed for any party. Their staple is the wood fired pizza. Because it's wood fired in the brick oven stove the smokey flavor from the wood is embedded in the crust. It has a smokey campfire smell that you taste in the crust and some of the largest pieces of pepperoni I've ever eaten. The meatballs and sausage were packed with flavor. I started with a house salad which came with crisp, fresh bed of greens (not the cheap, iceberg garbage) and wonderful dressing. We tried the wings which were also very good (makes Hooters taste like microwave food) and the tiramisu was like your Italian grandma used to make without the strong coffee flavor. It was moist, fresh and we were full, but still ate it because it was that good. This place rocks! read more

Stopped here on a roadtrip from NY to Florida. This cute brewery serves great bar food. Its a cozy southern atmosphere with a killer selection of beers. I had the pesto pizza with caramelized onions, ricotta, whole roasted garlic heads, mozzarella, and I added chicken. What a pizza. Loaded with toppings! I peered at other pizzas that came out and they all looked and smelled incredible, especially the philly cheesesteak pizza. You wont leave here hungry at all! read more

I've been here quite a few times when passing through Elkin. The pizza is AMAZING. The beer is very good. The reason for four stars instead of five is because the service is hit or miss. I would say this is a solid 4 stars, we went two days in a row. I had chicken wings both days and they were very good, cooked well with good flavor, had the buffalo and mango habanero. Fried pickle chips were good and the jalapeño poppers were good. We had pizza the 2nd night and it was good as well. My family of three went to Angry Troll on a Friday night. I have been here with friends before and had a terrible experience. Thought it might be a fluke anyone has a bad night. But no, the trip with the family was just as bad. The food itself is tastey. The service is the worse I believe I have ever encountered. Once you have given your order it is a guessing game as to when or if you will get your order. Drinks were noth refilled and the orders all came out at a different times. There's literally nothing else open on Main Street on a Sunday except for 222, which makes this Public House hands-down the best thing to do in Elkin on a Sunday. I stopped by 222 after visiting a few wineries around the area with my parents. This is a perfect, casual place to come with any assortment of family. Parking is more than plentiful, if you can't find street parking on Main, there's a huge public parking lot right next door. The building itself is really neat, very open with attention to wood and brick. It's also right next door to Angry Troll Brewery, so they share a good amount of drinks on special with them. We were greeted very soon after we sat down by a friendly server, and she took our order. First off, the beer list is astoundingly good.There are many places in Charlotte that don't have the sort of variety that was on the menu. Their house wine is also by Elkin Creek. Although this place is known for it's pizza (they've got a brick oven AND we saw them pulling their own mozzarella!!), we opted to get wings (in particular, I got the Blazn Asian). The wings arrived piping hot and the skin was crispy, which was excellent. All of my family really enjoyed them as well! My mom, having the sweet tooth that she has, ordered a 3 layer chocolate cake to go... and.. well, it didn't really make it out of the restaurant. We definitely devoured it right there. With a big menu, a diverse beer list, house-made fresh ingredients, and being open on Sunday, 222 is a gem that Elkin is lucky to have! read more

The atmosphere here is amazing. There are three rooms, one behind the bar that features a screen TV projector and an area that can easily feature a small band. The bar room has a nice cork topped bar and quite a few picnic table benches and booths along with a few tables, many TVs and the staff will happily change it to whatever you wish to watch. The room across the hall is more of a game room. Shuffle board, ping pong, corn hole, and even foosball can be found here. A great room to lounge and enjoy a beer with some buddies. Staff is incredibly charming and attentive. Bar service is top notch. I come by at least once a week to try out the new rotation of craft beers from around the area. I cannot stress enough how great the people are that work here. I went to school with many of the employees and they take pride in this place, it shows. If you are a picky eater you may run into a bit of a problem. Not many different options, but everything that is served is delivered and prepared with the utmost pride and care. The pizza is divine. The sandwiches and wings are cooked and sauced to perfection. The appetizers, while maybe a bit pricey are the best you will find in Elkin. If you are a tourist, this is a must stop. Stopped in on our way to Florida. It's a really cool looking building, exposed beams, bricks, and rafters. Atmosphere is really casual and welcoming. Staff was very attentive to anything we needed. Our waitress sat down at our table and took our order, I did not mind that she sat down. I've seen other reviews where people are offended by this action, the group I was with did not mind. Now to the food. Apps- nachos supreme, big nachos with cheese, salsa, sour cream, and lettuce. We all thought it was simple and tasty. Dinner- I had the cheese steak with provolone cheese, pickled peppers, on a club roll. It came out nice and hot, melted cheese. It was really good. Hopefully this was an off night. A group of six of us sat down after a long hike (18 miles) and we were starving. Service at the bar was quick. We had our drinks and paid up in moments. But something was awry with either our waitress or the staff. First we were told they were out of pizza dough and were waiting for the frozen dough to thaw. So we ordered sandwiches- and it still took awhile. Lots of details were missing. My gf's burger was cooked well done instead of medium rare. Appetizers were forgotten. And dipping sauces were included that weren't supposed to be. Any rate, they did have a prom and private party to entertain but service should never be this bad. Went here for dinner with a large group of friends on a Friday night. We didn't have reservations, but were seated right away. We had excellent service and our waitress was really attentive and patient. She even split the check amongst us all without complaints, which was really appreciated. We were also able to purchase T-shirt's and the waitress was really nice to work with for those also. She was very knowledgeable. Food was great. It seems as though they've forgotten a pandemic is going on-more than half of the staff weren't wearing a mask, all tables were filled, and no social distancing was happening. Stopped here today for lunch and it was fantastic. My family is on a "no plans" vacation and are literally just driving and finding things to do for a week.
