This was a great find on our short trip to Hickory. This is counter service with good food. Go to the counter, order your food, choose a table and the waitress will bring your food. They were very efficient. We arrived about 6:00. We ordered, received our food quickly, ate, and were out in 45 minutes. We didn't wait long, but 15 minutes later the line was to the door. I ordered a small ribeye. The steak was cooked perfectly. Small salad and red potato were nice sides. This isn't fancy, but it is good food, efficient service, and a comfortable atmosphere.

Josh and Haley have kept her father's super steak house going since it began in 1965! Very unique place with live music and the option to bring in your own liquor for on site enjoyment, as well as bottled beer for sale. They hand trim all their steaks and include the trimmings into all their hamburgers!!! Will be a regular!

This place seems like a hidden gem that only locals know about. It's was busy even at 4:30 people were waiting in line. Nothing extremely special just good flavored food. Not your typical steakhouse you walk in and go up to the counter and order your food. They have everything from hamburgers, hotdogs, to filet, and ribeyes. The steaks were cooked to perfection. The butter potatoes really hit the spot. The onion rings were crispy. The side salad is just ok they put a pickle on top and it made the whole salad pickley. The place is not well lit it's a bar type atmosphere the chairs aren't meant to be comfy just a place to eat.

Good local steakhouse, if your travels take you this way, stop. Everything simple and low-key, seems like they want to Keep it that way. Get your beer, listen to the band, step up to the counter order your steak sit down enjoy your evening.

Fourk is located in the Viewmount area of Hickory. They have a free parking lot across the street,…read moreand if that fills, there is street parking. The space is open with high ceilings. I admired the artwork. The cascading glass waterfall is what first caught my eye when I entered. Fourk has been open since 2015 and serves New American cuisine with a twist. I was warmly welcomed when I entered and got seated at a round booth with a great view, near the artwork that caught my eye. They really know how to treat single diners here, which is rare these days. I liked that I got the best table in the place, and that they didn't attempt to seat me at the bar. My waitress was friendly and incredibly attentive. She helped me select a mocktail while going over the daily specials, and she even brought me the dessert menu near the beginning of my meal so I could plan ahead. The menu had many options in all price ranges. You can get sandwiches, burgers, salads and more high-priced entrees like mahi mahi, scallops and filet mignon. I went with the daily special, which was the Oscar Filet Mignon. It came with hollandaise sauce and grilled shrimp, and that combination intrigued me. I had the Party Punch mocktail, but it was perfect with strawberries, basil, pineapple and ginger ale. The filet mignon and topping were also amazing. I even had room for dessert and knew I had to try the blackberry wine cake, and that didn't disappoint either. This was a very special meal for me, as it marked the first leg of my trip to finish visiting all 100 North Carolina counties. With the great atmosphere, service, and food, Fourk set the bar incredibly high for the rest of my journey. I might need to make another special trip just to dine here again. The murder mystery nights and the live music nights are an added plus.

I even wore my grad hat into the restaurant for the fun of it. Bestie and I ordered the Parmesan crusted chicken, hers with asparagus and fries, mine with mac and cheese (no bacon). As per usual, the food was total perfection, chicken was juicy and cheesy, and Mac and cheese was ooey, gooey, and delicious! It was my bestie's first ever time at Longhorn and she absolutely loved it to say the least. The waiter who delivered our food was so nice and even took a photo of all of us with our food so that we could truly treasure the memory. To top off the experience, A waitress even saw my graduation hat and brought me a free ice cream sundae! Shared it with bestie and we both loved it. Ice cream tasted like vanilla bean and was super rich, and it was topped with caramel and chocolate sauces and whipped cream! Yummy! And the restaurant was nice and quiet too, not too loud, so we were all able to enjoy our food in peace! Longhorn, you're the best!! Thank you for this wonderful experience--and for my free treat! My compliments to the chef(s).

Disorganized and Disappointing…read more We had high hopes for Duke's, especially with its upscale vibe and menu, but the reality fell far short. From the moment we sat down, things started going sideways. First red flag? The water left on our table had bugs floating in it. Not a great start. The waitress, while friendly, seemed completely overwhelmed--she forgot our orders multiple times, asked the same questions repeatedly, and left us waiting far too long between check-ins. It took 40 minutes just to get our soups, and the entrees didn't arrive until over an hour after we ordered. The entire experience felt chaotic. At one point, another server brought two dishes and a drink to our table that weren't even ours. Total confusion. Now let's talk about pricing--specifically, a $12 charge to split a 24 oz ribeye. How does that make sense when one person might not even be able to finish it? It felt like a greedy upcharge for no real reason. Menu clarity was another issue. The sides weren't listed clearly, and no one explained that the "loaded potato" option was actually a soup--not an actual potato. The clam chowder? It's a tomato-based red soup, which is definitely not what most people would expect when ordering chowder. A simple explanation from the staff would've gone a long way. The duck was actually fantastic, the crab cakes not so much. Dessert was also oddly handled. They offer a brownie, but ask, "Is that okay?" as if there are other options (there aren't). Then they bring one brownie split four ways--literally bite-sized portions on a single plate for a group of four. It felt more like a sampler than a real dessert. When it came time to pay, we were asked if we were ready for the check, but then they came back later and had to double-check everyone's order just to get the bill right. And instead of bringing the check, you're told to scan a QR code to pay--likely a move to avoid credit card processing fees, though it puts the burden on the customer to complete the transaction. Overall, Duke's tries to present itself as upscale, but the execution just isn't there. Sloppy service, confusing policies, and unnecessary upcharges make it hard to justify a return visit. Definitely not the dining experience we were hoping for.
