I've been coming to Anh Hong Saigon for 3+ years, and it still reigns as one of my absolute favorite spots for some really consistently delicious Vietnamese food! The most impressive aspect of dining here is the freshness of the produce. A lot of their main entrees are paired with a platter of herbs and lettuce which always taste insanely fresh, as well as a plate of pickled carrots and radish, bean sprouts, and cucumbers. Using the provided rice paper to make your perfect rice rolls with your choice of protein is not only really amusing, but seriously so delicious because you get to make the rice rolls exactly how you like it! My favorite appetizers include the Banh Xeo and the Cha Gio (they have 2 variants and they're both great)! As for entrees, I almost always order from their Banh Hoi options. Banh Hoi is a sheet formed from layered rice noodles and it's always the perfect compliment to their various meat options when placed inside the rice rolls. If you ever come with a big group of friends and family, order a catfish! It comes with the same previously mentioned herbs and vegetables and having a group of friends digging into a whole roasted catfish is such a life altering experience. The catfish varies in market price based on the weight of the fish, and depending on how big your group is, you might just be able to finish the whole thing! The kitchen cooks it to such a delectable tender doneness and they top it with fresh garnishes and fried onions, giving it a delicious aroma. Yes, it's definitely worth going to if you've never had Vietnamese beef 7 ways or baked catfish. There's not many of these types of restaurants around. General for celebratory reasons and it originated from the south as well. You can find many other Vietnamese cuisine out there, but unless you have a bigger Vietnamese population, this is a much more rare find. So when our friend from NY was visiting for Fanime, we had to get this. Though, I will say this to start with, nothing can ever beat my dear Thien An Bo 7 Mon from SoCal. I'm biased and I'm not afraid to say it, but I know that NorCal is lacking in many ways and with that in mind, it makes sense that the prices are higher (rent and costs of operation are much higher in NorCal, I'm sure) and the other differences as well. Regardless, the service was attentive and welcoming and they even chased my bf outside to his car when he foolishly left his card in the restaurant. There is a policy that the 7 course beef is 1 order per person and minimum 2 orders. I have not seen that in SoCal and they let us grossly share 1 order between 3 people, but things might have changed. With that in mind, 2 orders split between 3 people was more than enough. For drinks, my boyfriend got some local brewed IPA and when I sent my dad the picture (he's a Viet refugee), he immediately got triggered by the year that was on the can before I explained to him the origins that were on the label. I got a soda chanh muoi (salted lemon sparkling water and you pour the sparkling soda water from a cold can yourself into the mix in a glass). Refreshing and a sharp salty sour bite in between courses. The 7 course beef came as it would any other restaurant that does it: 1) Goi Bo (House Special Beef Salad) 2) Bo Nhung Dam (Beef in Wine Vinegar Fondue) -Not sure why it's translated this way but it's raw beef slices that have been seasoned in vinegar with some onions on top and you cook it in a hot pot broth. 3) Bo Cha Dum (Steamed Beef Patty) 4) Bo Cuon No Chai (Grilled Beef Sausages) 5) Bo Cuon La Lot (Beef wrapped in Lot leaf) -Easily the favorite of the table. You can never go wrong with leaf wrapped meats as you can see that it is a worldwide dish and phenomenon regardless of the protein and the vegetation used. -Savory and a bit smoky with a kick from the leaves. Good stuff. 6) Bo Nuong Xa (Beef roll with onion and lemon grass) 7) Chao Bo (Beef porridge) - the version I had in SoCal had cute beef alphabet and star pasta soup and I'm not the biggest fan of porridge so this was just okay to me. All the beef was seasoned well and moist, not too dry or tough. Definitely more than enough to share especially with the generous amount of rice paper and veggies to roll in. Again, just my qualm because I'll always compare every Viet 7 beef course with my OG in SoCal, but they had a vertical rice paper water rolling dish that made it easier to wet the rice paper without it getting soggy and without the water getting gross or the bowl taking up too much space. We additionally got vermicelli noodles to stuff our rolls too, which would have been nice to add a little bit of carbs into our meal, but if you're more into protein and veggies, this was good. I have been missing out for so long. I didn't know about 7 Courses of Beef until my boyfriend introduced it to me. We stopped by here for dinner Saturday night around 6. Luckily there was no wait. There is a No Pho sign right next to the entrance and another No Pho sign on the sign in table. They sure want everyone to know they do not offer pho lol. Besides the 7 Courses of beef, they also offer different entree items and appetizers. We went with the 7 Courses of beef, which is $39 per order/person and there is a minimum of 2 orders. First came the house special beef salad. It was refreshing, tangy, crunchy, different textures all around. Delish. Secondly, came the beef in wine vinegar fondue. The beef are raw, you will cook them in the broth. Wrap your own spring roll with the wrappers, veggies provided along with the beef that you cooked in the broth. They do refill veggies and wrappers as needed. Third, came the steamed beef patty, beef wrapped in lot leaf, beef roll with onions and lemongrass, grilled beef sausage. You can eat these as is or wrap them into spring rolls. Lastly, came the beef porridge. In my opinion, the beef porridge was the star of the night. Flavor was on point, ginger was not overpowering. I found this place after yelping for grilled catfish and was so surprised because I had no clue we had a location like this here! My family and I love eating at Thien An Bo 7 Mon Restaurant in Garden Grove, CA, but I've always craved it while I'm back in the Bay. Glad to say that my cravings have been satisfied after discovering Anh Hong! I've visited several times and have never been disappointed with the food or service. The grilled catfish, sides, and the experience is something unique and enjoyable every time. Whenever we have a family get together or something to celebrate, Bo 7 Mon (7 courses of beef) is usually an option. For 5 people, we usually order 3 sets of Bo 7 Mon and everyone leaves perfectly full. You can get away with ordering 2 sets and supplementing a la carte (the grilled fish is a fun item). They allow you to substitute one of the seven items, so we always substitute the cha (meatloaf) for additional Bo Mo Chai. The food here is pretty consistent and I prefer the accessibility of the Milpitas location over the San Jose location, but I did notice the San Jose's chao (porridge) was better. I do wish this location would renovate and upgrade the interior. For a restaurant with this pricing, they should change the interior away from the traditional pho restaurant look. An update as it's been a while. L O C A T I O N Anh Hong Saigon is located in a plaza off of Calaveras Blvd with the Paris Baguette and Grocery Outlet. It hasn't seemed to change over the years. A few larger tables for larger groups and smaller ones of course for smaller groups. M E N U The menu hasn't really changed and of course do not expect to get pho here. This is not a pho place. We had a group of 5 people and ordered the 7 styles of beef as well as the sugar cane shrimp (chao tom banh hoi), banh xeo. I feel like the 7 styles of beef is still the same. A lot of food so you can always do the minimum 2 servings and get other food which is what we got. The shrimp on a sugar cane was good. Fun to chew the sugar cane. The banh xeo was too crispy and quite oily. I think after having garlic sensitivities, it was a very different experience this time with the 7 styles of beef. We still liked the sausages for sure. But I think I appreciated the beef porridge more than the others. I took the rest home. S E R V I C E It wasn't too bad actually considering it was the weekend. It wasn't packed. This is a long overdue review. Anh Hong Saigon has been here in the Calaveras Plaza Shopping Center for years. They are close to Paris Baguette, Tofu House, Grocery Outlet, etc. They specialize in a seven-course specialty beef experience. Plenty of parking spots available in this large plaza. They used to post a note on the front door. "They do not serve Pho!" The dishes were delicious and was a great casual dining experience. It opened up my Vietnamese food experience. 1. Been wanting to have 7 courses of beef and found this place, kinda close to me. I've only had it once before in southern CA and found it an interesting meal. So when friends were coming to visit, I suggested this place for us to all try. The inside is a nicer than the outside and the shopping plaza suggests. We had 4 people and a kid so they stuck us at a big round table. They need a lazy susan on those round tables to be able to get to all the food. We just got up and walked around the table to get to all the food. We got two orders of the 7 courses of beef, which was plenty for the 4 of us. You don't need to order one order per person - that's way too much. But they do have a minimum of two orders per table, so best to come with a large group or if it's just two of you - you will have leftovers. We also got an order of the com thit va tom nuong - rice with shrimp and pork. More for the rice - so our little one could have it. Haha, but both the shrimp and pork were very tasty so I recommend. The pork was very thinly sliced and a little dry but had great flavor. I'm used to thicker pieces of pork but everyone does it differently. The mini salad that came with it was quite refreshing also. Anyways onto the 7 course - first they brought out the hot pot/fondue put to warm up/boil. And they filled the tables with the veggies, herbs, rice paper and bowls of warm water. But the actual first course was the beef salad. It was bright, tangy and refreshing - a great start to the meal. Next, once the vinegar liquid was boiling, we cooked up the thin slices of raw beef. I put this beef in a spring roll. They had two containers of sauce on the table. One is the nuoc mam, aka fish sauce and I wasn't sure about the other. I tried a taste of it, but it was undiscernible to me. The next four courses were just different beef rolls, all served on one plate. There were five pieces of each, so not sure how this was 2 orders. There was steamed beef, grilled sausages, beef wrapped in lotus leaf and beef roll with lemongrass and onions. I thing the lemongrass beef roll was my favorite out of all of them. You can just eat them but I used them in spring rolls - to get my veggies in. The meal ended with the seventh and final course - which was a beef porridge. Most of us thought this was the best course, including me. I wished for more- I only got a small bowl. With the rice dish, the 7 courses of beef was enough food for me. A little pricey - I think one order of the 7 courses is $40 and with a minimum order of two - you're already spending $80 off the bat. I'm glad I tried it. And service was pretty good. Recently, I discovered a hidden gem of a restaurant that prepares and serves one of my favorite traditional Vietnamese dishes... Walking into the establishment while awaiting to be seated, I experienced the cool air from the ventilation, low dim lights (which provided a soft, relaxing, and calm atmosphere), and noticed the venue offered seats and tables for groups of 1-4 or family-style dinners (with round tables and seats around them)... Shortly after I placed my order with the waiter, the first items to arrive were the sweet and tangy dipping sauce called "Nuoc Cham," and their fermented anchovy dipping sauce called "Mam Nem." Momentarily after the arrival of the dipping sauces, out came a plate with an abundance of vegetables, consisting of lettuce, cucumbers, mint, and other herbs. Alongside with the vegetables was this monstrous, gigantic, mouth-watering sensation of a traditional Vietnamese crepe called "Banh Xeo." Anh Hong did not hold back with the generous pieces of shrimp and pork, along with the perfect amount of bean sprouts and mung beans. However, the highlight of the Banh Xeo was how it was cooked. The crepe was fried to perfection. Ohh! Myyy!! Goodneesssssss!!!!! The crispness of the edges was the most memorable part of all. WOWWWWW!!!!!!!! Treating this dish as a lettuce wrap, I tore off a chunk of a lettuce leaf, stacked the other vegetables and herbs on top of it, and topped it with a piece of the Banh Xeo (along with everything inside it). I dipped the wrap into the fermented anchovy dipping sauce (Mam Nem), and as I took that first bite, the flavor and crunch created an inspiration for my taste buds, relaying a silent whisper to my brain with the message that stated,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, welcome to Vietnam. read more

I've been to Anh Hong in Milpitas at least a handful of times over the years. I would argue that the food isn't as good as the original Anh Hong in San Jose -- I can't seem to pinpoint the main differences but I can tell only because I grew up eating at the SJ location. For sure, the dipping sauces are much more diluted at this restaurant. Anyway, it felt like 150 degrees outside so we wanted to have dinner that included lots of fresh vegetables and herbs so spring rolls came to mind. Upon walking in, we were seated immediately and ordered their standard '7 course beef' meal for two. Each course came out promptly one after another as we kept rolling our spring rolls the entire time. I probably ate a minimum of ten spring rolls jam packing them with lettuce, herbs, cilantro, cucumber, and pickled carrots and daikon -- so refreshing and crunchy with every bite! I'm adding an extra star because the service is much better at this location compared to Anh Hong San Jose. Our two servers had great humor and maintained fantastic hospitality even though there was a full house by the tail end of our meal. With gratuity, it was about $100 for the two of us which isn't entirely bad considering prices these days. A busy, popular location! I would say most come here for the Seven Courses of Beef Meal. I came here with my family and I would recommend getting a reservation if you can. The wait can be very long especially on weekends! Once we made it inside, there were just so many big parties and the aroma of food just hits you. The menu is pretty vast, but has a good amount of options to choose from! It's not overwhelming like other Vietnamese restaurants. My family and I came here to get the Seven Courses of Beef and believe me when I tell you that it is worth every penny! We honestly ordered too much, but every course we picked was so good! Don't worry about not knowing how to wrap, because the staff is more than happy to explain how to do it. Mediocre Food, Disappointing Service -- Not Worth the Hype We visited Anh Hong Saigon for a special occasion -- my mother's birthday -- and unfortunately, it was a very underwhelming experience for our family. We don't dine out often, so we were hoping for something memorable and enjoyable. Instead, we left disappointed and frustrated. We arrived around 7 PM on a Sunday and were told the Bò 7 Món (seven-course beef) was their most popular item. However, we were informed that it's required to order a minimum of two servings at $39.99 each. So essentially, it's $80 for a meal which could've been advertised as so. The TWO servings also supposedly only fed 2-3 people. The "courses" were small portions of different meats meant to be wrapped in rice paper with assorted herbs. While some of the meats were Vietnamese staples, none of them stood out. Two of the items resembled sausage in shape and hamburger patties in taste. We also ordered the shrimp bánh hỏi, which came with three bite-sized pieces wrapped around sugarcane and four tiny discs of bánh hỏi -- for $31. The price-to-portion and quality ratio was hard to justify. But what really ruined the evening was the service. When we asked the server a few questions about the menu, she seemed annoyed and gave short, impatient answers. It made us feel unwelcome. At one point, my mom even said, "It feels like they're treating us like people coming from the countryside, who don't belong here." (in reference to Vietnam) Despite their attempt at a fancy, upscale ambiance (black tie uniforms, classical music), the service lacked grace. Two servers repeatedly interrupted our meal to clear plates, reaching over us at a large round table. This happened so frequently it became intrusive. At one point, they even asked us to hurry and take the last piece of meat from the pot so they could remove it. They began cleaning around us and clearing sauces while we were still eating. My mom kindly asked for more pickled vegetables and was met with an annoyed grunt from the male server -- loud enough for our whole table to hear. The worst moment was when we put down our card to pay. As my mom was still finishing up her plate, two servers began aggressively bussing the table, even tossing a dirty plate from another table onto ours to stack, while ignoring our credit card/ check. There was no rush -- the restaurant was not busy and plenty of tables were open. It felt like we were being shooed out and it honestly could've waited 10 or so more minutes, AFTER we've left. This was supposed to be a joyful birthday dinner, but the uncomfortable service and mediocre food made it anything but. The first time I came here must have been over 10 years ago. I don't think the items changed, but prices must have gone up through inflation. The first course was the house special beef salad. The beef was scarce or so minced that some folks thought it was chicken or pork. It was quite refreshing, but felt that the beef disappeared. The second course was the lukewarm pot shaba-shabu style. The heat was low and took a while to cook the rare beef. Not that the beef needed to be well cooked. The idea of this was nice, but the reality was different. Then came the heavy weights and probably the stars of the 7-course beef: One plate that had steamed beef patties, beef sausages, beef rolls and beef wrapped in leaves. With the 2 kinds of fish sauce (one that looked almost nasty but packed a punch of shrimp paste) as dip, these four different beef items were delicious. The dipping of the rice paper and adding veggies and meat to create the wrap was fun initially, but I got lazy later on. The staff forgot about the last course until we asked - the beef porridge. The porridge was flavorful, but I had only one thin beef strip in it. We also heard that the cat fish was good so we got a medium one. I'm not a cat fish person, but I felt it was tasty enough. I was lucky to try this dish as we had a huge group. Overall, not a bad meal, but for the salad and the porridge, beef was an after-thought. They could have replaced the beef with another meat and it would not have made much difference. I gave this place 3.5 stars. The service was lacking since it was a busy Saturday night. A few people had asked for chili sauce 2-3 times, but it never came. Since we had 10 people, the service fee was automatically added at 20%. With a required 20% fee, I expected better service. Thus, rounded down to 3 stars. It's good to try it once, but probably don't need to go back often. read more

Prepare to get your hands ready to wrap your food with tapioca wraps/Banh Trang with pickled carrots, bean sprouts, fresh cucumbers and dip into fish sauce/Nuoc Mam. Food (3.75/5): My party of 12 and I came here on an early Friday evening and we ordered ten 7 Bo Mon (7 course beef), which was sufficient food for all of us. There was a beef papaya salad, beef slices that you cook in a hot pot, beef prepared 4 different ways, and finally a beef porridge. They also give rice paper and veggies so that you can make spring rolls with the beef. As a Vietnamese person, I don't think there was anything standout to me, although every dish was decent. The porridge was actually a bit too runny, and I expected more flavor from the beef prepared 4 ways. Our thinly sliced beef also struggled to cook in the hot pot. Food was okay, but it was about $40 pp after tax / tip, which I'm not sure if would be willing to pay for again given the quality of food served. Service (4.5/5): The staff were very attentive to our table, constantly refilling vegetables and waters for our large party of 12. They all seemed friendly as well. This restaurant is quite unique in what they offer and quite an experience. My group and I tried the 7 types of beef meal set and it was quite experiential. The cost is per person for this is about $38 before tax/tip. Each dish that came was unique. The hotpot part was delicious. The whole meal is taking the different forms of beef and wrapping it in rice paper and adding some vegetables to it. It's refreshing. It is quite a lot of food. Having the porridge to end the meal was refreshing and calming. Definitely would recommend this for groups and for trying new experiences. read more

The bo 7 mon here is the most worth it. 2 orders ($36 pp) for 3 people is more than enough and very delicious. Of course, note a lot of peanuts in case of an allergy. This time we decided to get the fried fish ($75) to make rolls with and it was very crispy with fried onions, garlic, etc. To me a little heavy on the honey to make it crunchy, but the rolls always come with good veggies that you can get more for free. Service is fairly attentive, but note that although they say they close at 8, they stop letting people sign join thr waitlist at 7ish. The best place in South Bay to get 7-course beef "Bo 7 Mon" and authentic Vietnamese food!! I've gone here a few times and all times, my party got the 7 course beef (about $37.50 per person). For a group of 6, we got 5 orders and that was PLENTY. Service is quick and the servers are very attentive with clearing our table when we've finished one of the entrees and for water refills. The FOOD IS DELICIOUS. The beef (a part of the Bo 7 Mon/7-course set) is so juicy and flavorful. If you haven't tried this set, it includes: - pickled cabbage salad with beef pieces - sliced beef (you cook it in a small hot pot) - 3 kinds of vietnamese grilled beef (the main course) - ends with beef porridge All of these can be eaten individually or in a spring roll as they give small spring roll wraps, veggies, and pickled carrots to put in your spring roll.
