The waitress would refill our water frequently and the food was great! The tofu was perfect and tasted really good. The noodle dish and the hangover hearty broth soup was very clean tasting and very good. The tables weren't sticky either, seems like it's kept pretty clean. We put off trying Jun Bistro in Milpitas for way too long and I'm so glad we finally made it! This is definitely a place to go with adventurous eaters and people who can handle some spice. The menu is creative, bold, and full of flavors! We went all in and tried the fried silkworms, chicken liver pâté with Chinese donut, and eggplant dip with crispy rice crackers. Then came the truffle & mushroom rice, frog legs, lemongrass chicken, and banana leaf-wrapped sea bass. Every single dish was delicious, with so many interesting flavors and textures. The fried silkworms were definitely an adventure, but honestly, everything we ordered surprised us in the best way. The truffle & mushroom rice was especially memorable, and I'd absolutely order it again. Only downside: parking can be a challenge. And it's first come, first served, so plan accordingly and expect a wait during busy times or use the Yelp waitlist. But for us? Totally worth it. We tried three dishes and enjoyed all of them. Wild Mushrooms Conserva was a very small portion appetizer but it has a nice variety of mushrooms marinated in a well-seasoned spicy oil. Yunnan Signature Fried Tofu was excellent. Crispy on the outside, yet tender and juicy on the inside. Their house-made pepper salt paired well with the tofu. Very small portion too. Laksa Shrimp Fried Rice with the homemade laksa sauce, we asked for extra laksa sauce and used it as a dipping sauce for the fried tofu. The service was great throughout the meal. Very nice spot. This spot specializes in mushroom dishes from some region in China. To be fair, it's not my favorite cuisine from within China, but I found the food to be very solid still. Jun Bistro had been on my list so my husband and I decided to dine there last night. We ordered: Chicken noodle soup Dai style seafood 2 sugar cane juices, one with ice and one without ice Chilli honey chicken with potatoes Laksa shrimp fried rice Fried chicken with tom yum sauce We loved the sugar cane juices. The one without ice still came cold and was about $2.50 more in price. Both tasted similar and the one with ice wasn't diluted at all. Both were refreshing and we loved the flavor. It was very authentic and refreshing. Chicken noodle soup was amazing! I don't know about the 8 hour boiled chicken since it tasted like chicken breast broth and not bone broth but it was super delicious. The noodles were slimy and it was very comforting. No chili oil was provided on the table. The server spilled some broth on our table while carrying a hot bowl of soup. I recommend asking the servers to use a serving plate to bring over food to the customer's table. Spicy chicken with honey and potatoes- We've tried this dish at many different restaurants, mostly without potato chips and we didn't like it here. Some pieces of chicken were bland and others absorbed most flavors. The honey did not help the dish at all. There was no balance of flavors. I did not like the addition of packaged wavy potato chips into the dish. Dai style seafood- This dish was very disappointing. It was served cold which was the highlight of the dish but nothing tasted fresh. This dish took the most time to come out. The dressing tasted well made, it was sweet and savory but the seafood hadn't absorbed the dressing. There were mussels, clams, squid and calamari in it and the balance of flavors was out of proportion. Laksa shrimp fried rice- Good wok hey, chewy mushroom bits and little pineapple bits but shrimp was very hard to find. The addition of egg was nice. Fried chicken with tom yum sauce- Nicely fried very tiny pieces of chicken with 1 tsp of tangy sauce. Good dish. Nothing extraordinary. An absolute delight and a great choice if you're a mushroom fan! This place has been on my queue for a while to try out, and it really hit the spot. I came here on a Friday evening with my friend to grab dinner around 6:00 PM. The wait was around an hour, so be very prepared if you're coming during the dinner rush. This spot is located where the majority of the Asian restaurants are in Milpitas, so it's safe to say the parking can get a bit hectic and intense. The interior of the place is very bright, modern, and clean. There is a lot of seating for a small space, but the reason they are so busy has a lot to do with the number of people wanting to check this spot out. When you sit down, you scan their virtual menu via QR code and order there instead of through a server. You have the choice to order on one phone as a group or separately. Between my friend and me, we ordered a beef mint salad, fried tofu, confit mushrooms, and truffle mushroom rice. I will say that when we first got the fried tofu and confit mushrooms, we were quite surprised by the small portions compared to the price. That said, they were delicious, but skippable if you're trying to find the best bang for your buck. What I absolutely would recommend is their truffle mushroom fried rice. This might have been my best bite this month. It was so savory, the mushrooms hit perfectly, and the coating of butter on the rice was supreme. It was $28 for a bowl, but it was a good value to split between two people. Overall, the menu is expensive for the quality and in comparison to other restaurants. Photos of dishes make the entrees look larger than they actually are. The tableware is smaller than normal dishware. Fantuan has everything 40% off price wise and some items free, leading me to question why anyone bothers to dine in store. The wait was short, but the tables are arranged to be close to each other. The wait for the food was long in between dishes. We ordered a mix of items: 云南包浆豆腐 Yunnan Signature Fried Tofu had pillowy fried tofu. The sauce was in a super tiny sauce cup about the size of a small jar cap. Sad to say this was the only good dish. 叻沙菠萝菌菇虾炒饭 Laksa Shrimp Fried Rice had overcooked rice, undercooked pineapple, and an overcooked egg on top. 油浸菌子 Wild Mushrooms Conserva is a mix of mushrooms served in a palm sized dish. It is drowned in sesame oil and chili oil, making it an overly oily bowl of tough to chew mushrooms. 师大附中门口的大酥牛肉米线 Braised Angus Beef Rice Noodle was a watered down version of bun bo hue that was more watery then tomato flavored. Noodles itself were fine. Tomatoes were diced into such small pieces fit to be served to a child. Service was more attentive towards bigger parties. Wait for dinner on a weekday holiday was about 10 minutes. Ordering is done through QR code on the table. The truffle and mushroom rice tastes incredible! The Chinese sausage pieces sprinkled throughout added extra flavor too. The bowl is deep so there seemed to be roughly 5 cups of rice. Unfortunately the laksa shrimp fried rice was disappointing in comparison. It didn't have much flavor overall - better than plain rice but definitely needed more seasoning. The menu lists homemade laksa sauce as an ingredient but we didn't taste that, and the dish wasn't spicy at all either despite the 1 chili pepper rating. But it looked just like the menu picture so maybe the description is wrong. Fried chicken with tom yum sauce came with 6 pieces. Very juicy. We also enjoyed the herbal roasted prime steak with sausage rice. The delicious rice had the taste of fish sauce. Each dish was pretty good and had "very strong flavors", to the point that I wish I had a balance dish like plain rice to go along with in order to eat more, but individually speaking each dish is layered very well in flavor and worth trying out. The waiter was pretty patience with us as we brought an elderly guest with us at the table so we took a little longer to enjoy our meal. The interior design of the restaurant is pretty interesting where the booth is align an triangular shape with a center piece so the tables can be put together for larger parties very easily. I just checked out this Yunnan-inspired California bistro, which specializes in Yunnan-Guizhou cuisine. The character Jun means "mushroom" in Chinese. I'm a big fan of mushrooms, and I loved the umami flavors they created in each dish. Went to Jun Bistro for an early Friday dinner at 5:30. Good thing as we grabbed one of the last open tables. There was a wait for most of the customers after us. Parking gets a little crazy in Milpitas Square, so that's another reason to go early. First thing we notice as we sit down is a giant map of China on the wall and regionality of certain mushrooms. We were destined to have at least some mushrooms. The other thing we noticed was some of the very unique dishes on the menu like silkworm pupae and steamed stinky tofu! The food: Truffle and Mushroom Butter Rice - a blend of many different mushrooms on rice. The truffle flavor is very pronounced. This was so good, I tried to mimic the recipe at home. Qianshan Chili Fragrant Frog - I love the salty spicy flavor of this dish. I've had frog a few times, but never crispy like they have it in this entree. Lemongrass Pot Chicken - chicken and potatoes with a good amount of lemongrass flavor. Hits the spot and is very comforting. Braised Angus Beef Rice Noodle - large tender pieces of beef in a meaty broth Chicken Liver Pate with Chinese Donut - it tastes exactly like how it sounds. Wouldn't say it's a great match, but hard to go wrong with two ingredients that are very good by themselves. Steamed Stinky Tofu - the texture of this dish was like previously fried tofu that was steamed. It was ok, but I vastly prefer the fried version. We visited on a weekday, and the restaurant was quite busy; there was a wait for a table, and the dishes took some time to arrive. The main issue was the fish dish, which took over 30 minutes and arrived significantly undercooked and cold on the inside, with only the outer layer slightly warm. After checking with the server, they confirmed it wasn't properly cooked and offered a replacement dish, but by then, we were no longer willing to wait for another 30+minutes for a fish replacement, so we opted for an additional appetizer. First time at this place and it was poppin since it opened. We got on the waitlist and went next door for some mango treat while waiting. We waited for about 30 mins for 4 adults and a child. The service was fast and the portions were big. Honestly other than the mushroom rice I wasn't too impressed with all the other dines. We got a laksa fried rice and it didn't taste like anything other than just fried rice ? And the chicken was nothing special other than the sauce, but it also just taste like mayo and sriracha. We came here for Valentine's Day dinner for our first time. I am not a big fish person so we stuck with chicken dishes. We got the chicken and potato curry, fried tofu, greens and the bread pudding. I seriously don't understand the hype or all the high reviews for this place. We ordered the banana leaf wrapped sea bass, and while the presentation looked nice at first, the actual flavor was disappointing. The sauce completely overpowered the fish and tasted overly oily, heavy, and unbalanced instead of rich or flavorful. The sea bass itself didn't taste very fresh, and the texture was way too soft in a bad way. Wrapping it in banana leaf made the dish look fancy, but it honestly felt like presentation was doing all the work instead of the actual cooking quality. Even the herbs and chili on top couldn't save it. Definitely one of those dishes that looks amazing in photos but tastes painfully average in real life. I came here with a friend and we agreed that the dishes were really good but for me personally I am not a huge fan of shiso or pineapple so the calamari and fried rice were not as enjoyable for me. However, even with ingredients I'm not a fan of, I would say they did a good job with the food and it was still tasty! My favorite dish would have to be the chicken noodle soup. The mustard greens complement the soup very well and the noodles are so so so good. Service was quick and attentive and they were very nice and friendly. Came here for Sunday brunch with friends, and it was super delicious. It's in a large Milpitas shopping center, so parking is super easy, the restaurant is small (but very nice on the inside), and the wait can be pretty long, especially on Sundays. The food and service were great. They have a pretty good sized menu with some great offerings, good drinks, and the food comes out as it's ready. Some of the best things were had were the: -Tempura fried oyster mushroom / these were so amazing and crispy with a really good sauce -Yunan street home fries / so good! Who doesn't like good home fries -Lemongrass pot chicken / this was a HUGE portion and the sauce that it was in was really good. We made a mistake by not ordering rice to go with it -Stri Fry Cheung Fun / Kinda like rice cakes, but rolled chow fun, making it super good, but also super heavy -Laksa Shrimp Fried Rice / this was very delicious, good spice and a great amount of shrimp in it So yes, definitely check this place out. The food was VERY amazing and one day I'll be brave enough to try the silkworms, but for now, just the regular stuff. read more

I tried Jun Bistro and their food tastes as good as it looks. I tried the Laksa Shrimp Fried Rice and Stir Fry Cheung Fun. The fried rice had a nice aroma and umami to it, and the cheung fun was also stir fried well. The Braised Beef Noodle was also really good, but it was a bit too spicy for me. Drink wise, I tried the Rose Latte, which had a nice, balanced of rose flavor. I really liked the Falooda, which is a refreshing dessert that contains some bread dipped in coconut milk, taro, and red bean. Prices are on the higher side and seem to have gone up, but the food is really good. It appears that they rotate the menu regularly, but I also tried a wild mushroom dish and a lemongrass chicken pot that aren't on the menu anymore. I hope these dishes make a comeback! read more

Came around 11 and the restaurant was pretty packed already. You use QR code to order items at the restaurant. Food came out fairly quickly. The truffle and mushroom rice was yummy and it works with the stir fried mushrooms which is a lot spicier and saltier. The stir fried cheung fun was good-- a bit soft but tasty. The youtiao bread pudding stood out to me and it was a unique concept that worked... good contrast of crispy edge and soft middle with cream on top. Would definitely come back to try other menu items. read more

We came around 11:15am and were seated right away. Ordering was done through the phone, which was quick and easy. We got the Spicy Ground Pork Rice Noodle, Kids Rice Noodle, and the Truffle & Mushroom Rice (contains pork). Everything was delicious and satisfying without being overly salty. My toddler especially loved the truffle rice, and the kids rice noodle was perfect for little ones. The rice noodle texture was spot on--chewy and enjoyable. Service was decent and overall we had a nice dining experience. read more

This is my second review of Jun Bistro - The food unfortunately didn't hit the same the second time I came here. We got a few of the same things, and some new things. Street potato 4/5- a downgrade from the last time we came, but still good. Less oily, but also less flavorful. Wasn't cooked as crispy. Short rib 3/5 - less flavor and tenderness, the meat was also lukewarm when coming out. The sausage rice was lacking as well. Sea bass 2/5 - lacking much flavor, rubbery texture as if overcooked Fried tofu 4/5 - solid pick, tofu was nice and firm, not too oily. Super crispy and flaky skin. Roasted Eggplant cracker 5/5 - on the sweeter side but would definitely get it again. Rose Latte 3/5 - not bad Tom Yum Chicken 4/5 - solid pick, regular fried chicken with tom yum sauce Mint Beef 5/5 - must get. Refreshing and flavorful Service was solid. Ambiance was bustling. Went on a scavanger hunt for food and fell upon to spot. The food was good.I.ordered an appetizer and it came out before my actual meal. For some.reason that seems to be a lost art. The fried quail was delicious. Seasoned perfectly and cooked perfectly. I forgot what noodles.I ordered but they were also a hit. My drink was like pure cane sweetness. It went perfectly with the heat of my dish. The server refilled my water repeatedly which is always a plus for me. The place was quite and very clean. I dont think my server smiled 1 time.
