Tried this place out for weekend lunch and got their truffle and mushroom rice which seemed like their main dish, along with the fried tofu and stir-fried cheung fun. Each dish was pretty good and had "very strong flavors", to the point that I wish I had a balance dish like plain rice to go along with in order to eat more, but individually speaking each dish is layered very well in flavor and worth trying out. Ambiance is nice inside, service was bare minimum - I don't mind but you may need to flag a waiter several times to get their attention. Place was full and had a wait list for seating 10-30 mins or so on a weekend noontime.

Overall we had a very positive experience for a Friday dinner. The entire restaurant was full by the time we arrived at 5:45PM so I would say you need to go when they open. Truffle & Mushroom Butter Rice Braised Angus Beef Rice Noodle Stir- fry pea sprouts Lemongrass pot chicken Banana Leaf wrapped seabass Dessert Youtiao dough bread pudding Dinosaur Cutie Taiwan Bun (Passionfruit and taro flavor) The most impressive dish is the Truffle & Mushroom Butter Rice. I want to come back for lunch so I can get their Yunnan Rose Coffee or Tea Latte. It says on the menu that their coffee beans and tea leaves are from pristine mountains of Yunnan. They do serve coffee for dinner time but I can't take the caffeine at night. The service is above average for a chinese restaurant. The waiter was pretty patience with us as we brought an elderly guest with us at the table so we took a little longer to enjoy our meal. The interior design of the restaurant is pretty interesting where the booth is align an triangular shape with a center piece so the tables can be put together for larger parties very easily. Definitely easier to get a table for parties of 4 or less but it will work out for larger parties as well.

I just checked out this Yunnan-inspired California bistro, which specializes in Yunnan-Guizhou cuisine. The character Jun means "mushroom" in Chinese. I'm a big fan of mushrooms, and I loved the umami flavors they created in each dish. I tried a few of their new and signature dishes, and my favorites were the fried tofu (crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, plus perfectly seasoned), the truffle mushroom rice (I really enjoyed the depth of flavor), and the fire-roasted eggplant with rice crackers (I loved the different layers of texture and flavor). Their drinks were also delicious, and the staff were kind and friendly!

Went to Jun Bistro for an early Friday dinner at 5:30. Good thing as we grabbed one of the last open tables. There was a wait for most of the customers after us. Parking gets a little crazy in Milpitas Square, so that's another reason to go early. First thing we notice as we sit down is a giant map of China on the wall and regionality of certain mushrooms. We were destined to have at least some mushrooms. The other thing we noticed was some of the very unique dishes on the menu like silkworm pupae and steamed stinky tofu! The food: Truffle and Mushroom Butter Rice - a blend of many different mushrooms on rice. The truffle flavor is very pronounced. This was so good, I tried to mimic the recipe at home. Qianshan Chili Fragrant Frog - I love the salty spicy flavor of this dish. I've had frog a few times, but never crispy like they have it in this entree. Lemongrass Pot Chicken - chicken and potatoes with a good amount of lemongrass flavor. Hits the spot and is very comforting. Braised Angus Beef Rice Noodle - large tender pieces of beef in a meaty broth Chicken Liver Pate with Chinese Donut - it tastes exactly like how it sounds. Wouldn't say it's a great match, but hard to go wrong with two ingredients that are very good by themselves. Steamed Stinky Tofu - the texture of this dish was like previously fried tofu that was steamed. It was ok, but I vastly prefer the fried version. Jun Bistro was packed for a reason - interesting dishes, bursting with flavor. Makes us want to come back and try other things on the menu.

Disappointed with the quality of one of our dishes. Jun Bistro specializes in Yunnan cuisine, with a focus on mushroom-based dishes. We visited on a weekday, and the restaurant was quite busy; there was a wait for a table, and the dishes took some time to arrive. The main issue was the fish dish, which took over 30 minutes and arrived significantly undercooked and cold on the inside, with only the outer layer slightly warm. After checking with the server, they confirmed it wasn't properly cooked and offered a replacement dish, but by then, we were no longer willing to wait for another 30+minutes for a fish replacement, so we opted for an additional appetizer. While this may have been an isolated mistake, proper quality control is important--especially with dishes like fish. Fortunately, we did not experience any adverse effects. The other dishes we tried were decent, but none stood out.

Came on a weekday for dinner had a pretty solid experience overall. Ordered the stinky tofu, truffle and mushroom rice, and the spicy ground pork rice noodle soup. The stinky tofu was definitely very stinky, exactly how I wanted it. Flavor was good, but it's one of those dishes that's probably not for everyone. The rice noodle soup was tangy and slightly sweet, with the tomato flavor really standing out. It wasn't very spicy despite what the menu suggested. The noodles were a bit too soft for my liking, but still a solid dish overall. The highlight was easily the truffle and mushroom rice. Super aromatic and every bite was packed with flavor. I'd honestly come back just for this. Service was good, and the ambiance was nice with some plants in the middle adding to the vibe. It was pretty packed when we were there, so water refills weren't as frequent, but nothing I'd dock points for. Would certainly return.

Very solid Yunnan style restaurant - their take is to fuse Yunnan with Californian cuisine Service is very attentive and detailed they filled my water a good amount and also even called me to make sure I got my reservation spot when I was walking around outside Food is very balanced and executed well. Nothing really popped flavor wise - I expected more mushroom flavors at the center stage, BUT everything did taste yummy and I kind of think their intention was to make the mushrooms more subtle. I do like how it's incorporated into almost every dish. Would recommend and would come back!! The salad was very refreshing - sprinkles of mint leaves and the pickled radish?? Wasn't overly acidic. Also decent portion of mushrooms included it was a set of fun chewy textures. Mushrooms not overcooked. Saw them using good woks and high heat through the kitchen window Truffle mushroom rice was great!!! it was like clay pot rice without the clay pot but the mushroom flavor didnt really infuse too much into the rice. Truffle flavor came through tho and good butteriness + fat from the pork sausage

First time at this place and it was poppin since it opened. We got on the waitlist and went next door for some mango treat while waiting. We waited for about 30 mins for 4 adults and a child. The service was fast and the portions were big. Honestly other than the mushroom rice I wasn't too impressed with all the other dines. We got a laksa fried rice and it didn't taste like anything other than just fried rice ? And the chicken was nothing special other than the sauce, but it also just taste like mayo and sriracha. The coffee was tiny less than 12oz and charges for $7 and the stinky tofu was super salty. Other than the mushroom rice I prolly will not come back again .

Omg this place blew me away. Came here on a Tuesday night with a friend for New Year's Eve dinner. The place is beautifully decorated and the service is very fast. We ordered the Mushroom and Daisy leaf salad, fried tofu, stinky tofu, and Shrimp Fried Rice. Everything was superb but the daisy leaf salad was amazing and I'm coming back for that! Also we ordered the Rose Latte and Soymilk latte. Both delicious!

We came here for Valentine's Day dinner for our first time. I am not a big fish person so we stuck with chicken dishes. We got the chicken and potato curry, fried tofu, greens and the bread pudding. I really enjoyed everything, the garlic in the greens were so good. The fried tofu wasn't very exciting, I won't be getting that in the future. The bread pudding was also a fun not too sweet dessert. Everything came out quickly and we didn't have to wait too long!

Ive always seen this place busy when walking around Milpitas mall and usually with a wait oustide. The outdoor menu pics really looked great so decided to give it a try. Unique & delicious Yunan food , definitely sets itself aparts from the other great restaurants at this mall. Street food menu is genius - loved seeing that. Food was unique, expertly crafted and definitely come back again. Well done Chef! Street Food Menu - Crispy Oyster Mushroom Tempura- 5/5 Probably my most favorite item. Super crispy , a bit spicy, high in umami flavour. Reminds me of Taiwanese popcorn chicken but entirely a whole new level. Kudos to the Chef. Stir Fry Cheung Fun 5/5: I've had alot of Chow Fun - This is probably the best version I've had. The chow fun is not long strips but wrapped into small pieces - its why its unique. Bacon pieces , garlic oil, chive, Stir Fry , Yunnan fermented mustard Leaf. Whats not to love? Finished the entire dish. Couldnt stop eating. Spicy Potato Pot Chicken 5/5. All the flavours on this one was on point. chicken, potatoes, peppers, Chili paste. Spice level was through the roof. Notice there are 3 peppers next to the menu item. My friend can eat very spicy but this one was enough to make her eyeballs bug out - in a good way :P Ordering 3/5: Ordering from QR code was difficult - so many items on the menu and small QR code phone menus are the worst. Waiter was helpful and brought us paper menu. no pictures on the menu :(. Bouncing back and forth between phone and hard menu - finally placed the order. Interior: 4/5 Cozy, bright modern. I love the clean interior. Its a bit cramped if your sitting in the middle. I saw a couple move from the middle seating area to large table when it opened. Waitlist: 4/5 Some reason this kiosk does not take your phone #. No chance to walk around the mall while you wait for your table. You'll need to wait oustide to have your name called.

If you love bold, spicy Hunan flavors... Jun Bistro is calling your name. O R D E R E D * Chinese donut with liver pâté * Stinky tofu (and yes... the stinkier the better ) * Chinese-style taco with eggplant -- vegetarian-friendly and so good * But my personal obsession? The mushroom truffle rice. V E R D I C T Came here with two friends who are OBSESSED with spice, and this spot delivered They've got such a wide variety of dishes, including some super unique, hard-to-find ones As a mushroom lover, this was EVERYTHING. They use shiitake mushrooms and don't hold back -- the portion is generous and the flavor is unreal. I could honestly eat this every single day. The vibe is also a whole moment. Cozy, warm, and gives you that greenery feel without actual plants -- just super inviting and perfect for a chill meal with friends. If you're into spicy food or want to try something different, this is your spot.

We literally jumped for joy walking into @junbistro, a Yunnan-inspired California bistro built on a beautifully simple idea: blending the flavors of Yunnan with the spirit of California culture. The name Jun carries so much meaning. It comes from 菌 (Jun)--the local word for mushrooms in Yunnan--and also echoes the month of June, when these mushrooms flourish in the wild. More than that, it represents the heart behind this place: creating a space where Joy, Nutrition, and Unprocessed food can be shared among friends and family. A true natural kitchen that brings you back to what's authentic. Let's Jun Big We ordered a spread that truly reflects that philosophy: Banana Leaf Wrapped Seabass -- steamed whole with herbs and finished in a fragrant coconut laksa sauce Spicy Sour Soup Beef with Guizhou Mujiang Seeds Oil -- bold, tangy, and deeply comforting Fermented Shrimp Sauce Stir-Fry Beef Loin -- a Guizhou classic packed with umami Fried Chicken with Tom Yum Sauce -- crispy with a bright, zesty kick Laksa Shrimp Fried Rice -- rich, aromatic, and impossible to stop eating From the warm, community-focused space to the friendly, welcoming service, every dish tastes like it was made with intention--food that reminds you of love, nature, and home. Asian-fusion done thoughtfully, rooted in Yunnan traditions and made for the Bay.

The flavor is comforting and well-balanced without being overly salty, and the texture is smooth and satisfying. I highly recommend pairing it with their dough stick (youtiao). It's crispy on the outside, slightly chewy inside, while still staying light and fluffy. Dipping it into the congee completely changes the experience and honestly feels like a must-order combination. Another standout for me is the steamed spareribs with black bean and taro. The spareribs are tender and flavorful, and the black bean sauce adds a savory depth without overpowering the dish. Service continues to be efficient and well-organized, even when busy. One thing I noticed is that the restaurant is especially popular with elderly customers, which honestly says a lot about the food being comforting, traditional, and consistent. Almost every table had some combination of congee, rice rolls, and steamed dishes, which seems to be the way to go here. The Shrimp Rice Rolls are the clear star--the rice noodle is incredibly smooth and thin, which is the mark of a great chang fen. They don't skimp on the shrimp, and the sweet soy sauce ties it all together perfectly. For something heartier, the Wonton Noodle Soup features a very clean, savory broth and snap-to-the-bite noodles. The Pork Congee is also a winner; it's silky, flavorful, and exactly what you want on a cold day or when you're craving something soothing. We also grabbed the Shiu Mai, which were plump and well-seasoned with a great meat-to-shrimp ratio. The kitchen is efficient, and the flavors are consistently authentic. We were seated near the kitchen so we were able to look in and see BTS. The restaurant is very spacious, clean and bright with a modern design. There are booth tables against wall and tables in the middle of the restaurant. A QR code is is availble at the table for you to view menu and order. I actually like this better as I don't feel rush to order and gives me the chance to look through the menu without feeling rush to order. Iced water was brought out instantly. We ordered the following: 1. Lamb skewer, spicy: you can smell the intensity of the spice when the dish was brought out from the chili powder. The meat is moist and grilled well w/ a nice crisp. There is no gamey smell. I took a first bite but the chili powder slightly burned my gums. Had to ask Hubby to shake some of the chili poweder off the skewers for me. Its a messy dish but very tasty. 2. Spicy beef soup w/ wide noodles: Noodles are HUGE! About 1.5 inches wide and forever long. I had to use the scissors to cut it up. Noodles are good. Chewey texture just as I like it. Comes with a whole egg and beef. The broth has a nice spice to it and unlike other spicy noodle soup I've tried, it does not taste oily or overwhelmed with spices esp Sze Chuan chilis. It had a good balace of savory and spiciness. 3. Wide noodles w/ braised chicken: This dish is delish but it's a BIG dish like a whole chicken was prepared! Can feed up to 4-5 people. It's the size of a medium pizza or even a Large. The thick sauce is very flavorful but not salty. It comes with potatoes, carrots, onions, green bell peppers, and dried whole chili. Its not spicy but may be for kids as we have a high spicy tolerance. Only thing about this plate I didn't like it there's bones. We ended 2 more meals with the leftover. The noodles are hand pulled in house as we sat by the kitchen and saw the kitchen staff making it. Food comes out pretty quick and service is very good. The staff are very attentive and met our needs promptly. We definitely will return to try other plates as the menu is pretty big.

I was shocked, to say the least, about the quality of this unassuming restaurant in Milpitas…read more Serving up authentic cuisine for a reasonable price -- this place is a combination of quality comfort food meets affordability. The service is what you'd expect at an Asian restaurant in the Bay -- efficient and no frills -- but gets the job done well. Immediately after the food arrived -- we dug in. Not just because we were famished, but because it was THAT good. (One of those situations where you stop talking and just eat...) I'd wholly recommend the Oyster Pancake (a balance of briny seafood with sweet pancake sauce) and the Specialty Hakka Noodles ("Q," i.e. chewy, in the most perfect sense). Will definitely make a pit stop in Milpitas for Taiwan Cafe next time in Milpitas and highly recommend for anyone who's looking for a taste of some excellent Taiwanese cooking.

I was taken here on a weekday for dinner by someone that was born and raised in Hunan so he knows what's up. He told me that the dishes here tastes the closest to home so I was really looking forward to giving this place a try. The restaurant pretty quiet. There was only one person working the front so sometimes he will go to the back to bring out orders or help with to-go orders. From what I noticed, regulars will just go find an empty table to sit at when the staff isn't in the front. I would say the service was pretty standard. Food was yummy and there were a lot of dishes that I haven't seen before. I ordered the stirfry eggplant with green beans, spicy fish stomach, and the Hunan Style Fried Rice Cake. The stirfry had good wok hei and flavor. The crunchy fish stomach was cooked with 3 different types of pepper which made the dish spicy with a hint of sour. The rice cake had sugar sprinkled on top and had a nice texture. I asked for asked for extra sesame on my dessert and the serve was nice enough to bring out a little bowl for me. I can't wait to try some of their other dishes next time!
