They performed all the necessary tests, did biopsy and sent the sample to a highly reputable lab out of state, and then, based on the results of the lab, performed wedge resection surgery. Dr. Hamilton did such a great job stitching up the eyelid that I can't even tell that there was anything! When I emailed the clinic with my concerns my visit, their response was to KICK MY CAT OUT OF THE PRACTICE. Instead of addressing my complaints advocating for my cat's health, the dirty office, and my poor experience overall, they just sent a generic PR response that repeated the soap notes--no new information, no real engagement with my concerns. They never addressed why they were saying, my cat had herpes, despite not having one symptom of herpes. It's extremely heavy-handed to ask a patient to leave after just one appointment, and frankly, it's a rare and strange response to receiving legitimate feedback. My email wasn't rude nor was it at the office. They only want patients who agree with them and don't challenge them. My French bulldog was seen on April 2, 2024 for eye ulcers by Holly Hamilton, DVM. Dr. Hamilton could care less about her patient, she was rude to us, and quite honestly had a horrible bedside manner. She didn't even say hello to him or try for even one second to befriend him. (Her technician was great). Then she has the gull to recommend vet animal behavior for my dog, when it's her behaviors that need to be trained. I'm unsure why she is in the practice to serve animals. It was extremely obvious she had 3 minutes to spend, not a minute longer, and she was honestly one of the rudest individual I've ever come across at a veterinary office, and I've had animals my whole adult life who have visited many veterinary offices. We would never take any animal back to Dr. Hamilton, for any reason. I will travel an hour away, if necessary. Dr. Hamilton might be a great "doctor" but my husband, myself and our dog did not believe she had our best interests in mind. read more

Terrible place. After paying hundreds of dollars in cash every visit, they have a policy that they will not call in your prescriptions. They want you to drive there to pick it up. I I guess it's too much work for them. They have no problem taking your cash but don't want to provide good service. I live an hour away without traffic and I am a busy doctor myself. It is a joke. You should not come here. The only thing I can think of for this policy is that they are lazy and greedy, and don't want to pay staff to help you, but will charge you anyway. If I could give Animal Eye Care, specifically Dr. Davis a million more stars, I would! This review is long overdue, we've been seeing Dr. Davis for 2 years now and she is incredible. Our 6 month old pup Penelope started squinting out of nowhere, and then I noticed cloudiness in her eye soon after. I freaked out of course. After our primary vet couldn't find what was actually going on, I knew I had to see a specialist and that's when I came across Animal Eye Care. We were open to seeing any ophthalmologist, but I feel so lucky to have been matched with Dr. Davis with our first appointment. She is very thorough, kind, patient, empathetic and just has the most gentle nature to her. Our little girl Pea ended up getting diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes at 6 months old, but she was nearly blind in one eye. We opted to go through with additional testing after her eye stabilized from being so inflamed, and then we went ahead and did cataracts surgery in her blind eye. Despite Pea's genetics and facing a few obstacles because of it, Dr. Davis did an outstanding job with her surgery! She is fully visual and we are almost 2 years post-op and she's doing great. Earlier this year, our older dog Lennie ended up with a corneal ulcer while playing. Because of his age, his eye wasn't healing itself on it's own (and I waited weeks trying to let it heal so it could be partially my fault :/). We ended up opting to do a debridement surgery for him. Lennie is reactive and isn't a big fan of the vet; I was especially worried because how close the vet's need to be to their face for testing for proper diagnosis and during the check-up's. Dr. Davis made me feel at ease with her patience and understanding and I am thoroughly impressed by her and her tech's who handled him so well. We absolutely love Dr. Davis and can't thank her enough for giving Pea her vision back, and also helping Lennie recover properly from his corneal ulcer. She is a true gem! We have since moved to Oregon but we are loyal to Dr. Davis and will continue to see her and make the 8 hour drive back... that's how much we love her!!! read more

I came to this conclusion after a visit with long conversations with the vet, vet tech, many receptionists and, finally, the manager. * Did I pay the $330 to make and hold an appointment? Yes. I love my cat and want her to get the help she needs. But follow ups, I was told during my appointment, are $200. Oh, and medication is not included, which wouldn't be such an issue if the price for an appointment wasn't so high. During the visit I was sent a text that reads like a hostage note, along the lines of, "Pay us $187 NOW for medication before we give you your cat back." * When I protested to the vet tech, she attacked me on a personal level. She really laid into me, including calling me out on the disability I've had since birth. * What did I walk away with? An envelope, about 12 pieces of paper, no medication or help for my kitty, and a bad taste in my mouth. All that for the low, low cost of $330. I was referred here by my primary veterinarian for a cyst my dog had on his eye lid. My vet was unsure if it could be removed successfully without leaving him unable to fully close his eye. We would bring him in every few weeks to have the fluid drained but wanted a long term solution if possible. We made an appointment at Animal Eye Care and made the drive to Lafayette from Brentwood to see Dr. Wiggins. They did a full eye exam on him and gave us two options. Bottom line..Dr. Wiggins was successful in removing the cyst and my dog can close his eye just fine. No sign that the cyst plans to return and we are very happy with the expertise and gentle care that Dr. Wiggins brought to my 14 yr old Westie's unusual condition. I brought my dog Brooklynn here after her eyes changed colors suddenly. I initially took her to the ER on Monday night which only told me it could be a number of terminal eye diseases, but to follow up with an Ophthalmologist. After searching high and low on Yelp for an Ophthalmologist I narrowed it down to 3 choices. Animal Eye Care was my first choice although it was 1.5 hour drive from my house. After reading the reviews I felt confident and comfortable that they could handle the issues my pet was experiencing. The appointment was easy to schedule, and Brooklyn was able to be seen within 24hours or less. The whole staff was welcoming and concerned and I really appreciate that. Dr. Davis was very thorough when examining Brooklynn' eyes and properly diagnosing her. Dr. Davis made recommendations as far as additional testing, and dieting. I appreciate Dr. Davis' expertise and confidence when diagnosing my pet. I also like the way all the information, diagnosis, testing, medicine, how to administer medicine, and anything else you can think of was put together on paper so when I get home I can refer to for easy reference. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Wiggins and his amazing staff. Everyone from front desk to after care are very attentive. Dr. Wiggins is very friendly, thorough and happy to talk through anything. My 13 year old cockapoo had an eyelid mass that was irritating his eye so we had to have it removed. I was concerned about general anesthesia given his age but that was not necessary since this procedure can be done through less invasive sedation. He did really well during the procedure. I even got a call extra early to come get him. He had an upset stomach reaction to one of his meds. Even though it was the day after Thanksgiving Dr. Hamilton via emergency line was able to confirm I could stop the medication. He's had his two week follow-up with Dr. Wiggins and his eye has healed really well. I'm very happy we took care of my doggie's eye issue and came to Animal Eye Care! Side note: I had gone to another ophthalmologist in the area and was not as pleased with the attention and proposed treatment care plan. Hence the second opinion with AEC and so glad I went with my gut. Yes, they are a little more expensive for the initial exam but it's worth the piece of mind and outstanding care. read more

Here is the good and the bad about Animal Eye Care. I recently had my dog treated for an eye ulcer and the treatment seems to have worked as he is back to his normal routine. This happened during the pandemic lock down so unfortunately most of my communication was remote. The doctor did an outstanding job of explaining her diagnosis, treatment options and details, and was patient to answer all questions I had. The assistant, who was the only person I actually interacted with in person, was kind and compassionate. That's the good. Unfortunately they are the only eye specialists in the area and take great advantage of their ability to monopolize their pricing. To say they are gauging is an understatement. Adding to this abuse is their lack of compassion for the owner. From the onset, their approach is at arms length, making you feel untrusted to ensure they get their money before you get any information. Their "flat fee" approach is a way of justifying their lack of pricing transparency. With no line-item invoice their pricing abuse is kept hidden. There is so much to read and sign before anyone even speaks with you that it makes you feel like a criminal. It's no wonder so many animals lie in wait in kennels. read more

Dr. Wiggins has taken care of both our dog's eyes for quite some time. We initially met him when our pug had an emergency visit at Davis. Although we could not save his eye I think Dr. Wiggins did the best he could and I definitely recommend him. Our other pug has a small growth on his eyelid and needed to be seen today. Traffic was bad and I called an explained that I would be up to 15 minutes late. The assistant wanted me to reschedule, but I was insistent and so she reluctantly told me to come in and see if they will see my dog. Considering the fact our dogs have both been patients for so many years and we have spent a ton of money there, I did not think it was too much to ask for an exception to their "late" rule, and be allowed to see the vet. After all I've spent quite a lot of time waiting to be seen on prior appointments. When I arrived she seemed a little put out, but to Dr. Wiggin's credit he did agree to see my dog and I am grateful to him for that. I know they have rules but sometimes allowances should be made for extenuating circumstances. The other issue I have is I do think their procedures and office visits are overpriced. He did check his eyes and was thorough but no treatment was needed. However I think charging $200.00 just to examine a dog's eyes in a15 minute appointment is a bit excessive. That is why I am only giving them 4 stars. I will continue to bring my dogs there because I think Dr. Wiggins provides excellent 5 star care, and that is what matters most. Fortunately we have pet insurance, but despite that I do not think a veterinary practice (albeit a specialty practice) should not charge unreasonably high prices for some of their basic services like simple eye check exams without procedures or medications. read more

I cannot thank this place enough for restoring my fur babies eye sight. Let me start off by saying I am an RVT and am very picky when it comes to doctors-just from experience of being in the field (I work in emergency/specialty myself). My boy lost his vision completely in the course of less than a week and was luckily able to be squeezed into their schedule promptly. The clinic itself is on the smaller side and with an easily excitable big dog it can be a squeeze, especially when other dogs are in the lobby. The staff is great at getting you into a room quickly to avoid any issues. You will be roomed by a nurse who will ask you questions and perform standard eye tests-they are all great and were super patient with my wiggle worm (I wish I remembered all your names). The first visit pictures were taken of the interior of my boy's eyes to show us where his retinas had all completely detached (due to his immune system). Dr Wiggins was super thorough and took his time to explain everything. He discussed all options. My boy has sensitive arms due to elbow dysplasia and they were so careful with him when drawing his blood. Dr. Wiggins has been nothing less than amazing. I have been here at least 6 times in less than a year and each visit has been excellent. Dr. Wiggins was very easy to get a hold of when needed. We were even squeezed in after the Drs surgery time to check Zeus's eyes when they were off one day. Within a month of the initial visit my boy started seeing again-and 9 months later we are still 100% reattached. I cannot thank Dr. Wiggins and the staff for making a very stressful time a great experience. Zeus is always SO excited to see you all and I don't think he can give you enough kisses for allowing him to continue chasing those squirrels and bunnies! Today the clinic went out of their way to help me get in because my pugs eye ulcer did not seem to be improving. I found Dr. Wiggins very thorough, and made sure I didn't have any unanswered questions before I left. He was very gentle with my boy and made an effort to engage with him (even though he was being ignored because there were treats on the counter). Yes, they are more expensive than your regular vet. That's because they are specialists, they go to school much longer than general practice veterinarians and really know their stuff. If you have pet insurance it's very likely the whole visit is covered minus your deductible. I would go to Dr. Wiggins again in a heartbeat and love the founder of the clinic Dr. Friedman. read more

I took my dog here and paid $$$$ for tests and five different meds including antibiotics. I realized that NONE OF THE MEDICATIONS OR PAPERWORK I WAS PROVIDED INDICATED HOW LONG I WAS SUPPOSED TO CONTINUE ADMINISTERING THE MEDS, but since we had a follow-up appt. in 2 weeks, I wasn't that worried. However, as I am meticulous, and I used my dog's last dose of the antibiotics on the 7th day, I left a detailed vm at 6:45 a.m. on the 8th day, to confirm the 7 day series (rather than 10 which is common). As I hadn't received a return call, I CALLED AGAIN, at 4:05 p.m. (still plenty of time for me to pick up the meds that day.) The receptionist told me that the doctor had gotten the message. She confirmed that there was no indication how long any of the meds were to be administered and said that "usually" there is some indication, including whether refills are available. In our case, there was nothing. I asked again how long my dog was supposed to take the antibiotics but the receptionist couldn't help me. So, at 4:59 p.m. the receptionist called me to tell me that I was supposed to keep giving the meds for 10 days. So, (1) I was only given enough antibiotics for 7 days; (2) I was not told the antibiotics were supposed to be administered for 10 days, (if I had, I would have known I didn't have enough and called before running out); (3) The receptionist called me so I couldn't even ask about the medical implications of my dog missing 2 doses of antibiotics (making me worry all night and lose sleep); and (4) I was told that if I couldn't make it there in 10 minutes, I'd have to pick it up the next day. (If my call had been returned in a timely manner, I could have picked the medication, but the 4:59 phone call prevented this.) This was not handled well. If I had done this, I would have offered to stay until 5:30 or 6 p.m. so the dog could have the medication that evening. So early the next morning I went in to pick up the meds, and was told that the "standard practice" is that people continue meds until the re-check. I made it clear that I was unhappy about this and they promised to call the manager. Smart move, the manager is awesome. I was charged for the extra doses but the next day their manager called me an addressed each of my concerns. The manager was really great and made me feel like she really cared about me and my dog. It is based on her professional and prompt response that I am upgrading the rating I originally gave. BUT DOUBLE CHECK YOUR MEDS AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE MINIMUM BASIC INSTRUCTIONS SUCH AS HOW LONG TO ADMINISTER THEM. If you are running low, call 2 days in advance or call the on-call number, because if they get busy, they may not be able to return your call before 5. I have a follow up visit and my dog does seem to be doing better, so I'll update later. read more

When my dog got a cataract in her right eye she became almost completely blind as she already had an old cataract in the left eye. I called a few places and decided to got w AEC. Dr Chen was great, professional, answered all my questions and was able to let me know what to expect. With COVID visits are a bit weird but staff was great and quick. Right after the surgery my baby was able to see right away. We tried to be diligent with her eye drop regimen and she did great. No hiccups or any issues. We have had 2 dogs now that have been seen by Dr Debra Friedman. She is wonderful. Takes great care of our dogs eye problems without surgery or outrageous costs. Still, not cheap, but what specialist is? Our regular vet is wonderful but when it comes to eye problems you really need an opthomoligist. read more
