i just would like to say thank you to the staff for being very attentive on getting back to people about instructions and in general for any questions. I have nothing but respect for Doctor Erik Johnson as he has always been honest and never pushy about proceeding to do something immediately unless he feels too, this has been my experience with him and i truly appreciate that because things can get costly fast . The office is very nice and clean as well . Again i have to say it doctor Johnson is amazing and has a good personality and heart .

Our three-year-old dog suddenly became incontinent and showed signs of injury. We took him to Modern Animal Hospital in Palo Alto and they ran several diagnostic tests on him, including a series of x-rays. The images seemed to indicate that there was some kind of spot where lumbar meets sacral (L6, L7, S1). He seemed suspicious for IVDD. We were given the usual recommendations for neurologists in the area, but I couldn't find an appointment soon enough at most of them, and I didn't feel great about the vet at the one where there was an appointment available within a couple of weeks. I was extensively researching other options when I somehow came across Neuro Vet. WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! A 24-hour vet JUST for neurological conditions and concerns!? The doctors seemed excellent in terms of credentials and experience so I calls Sage to cancel and get my deposit back. They were so eager for my business that they repeatedly tried to convince me to go forward with them by offering to make time immediately for our dog. This was interesting because I previously begged them for any way to come in sooner and they were firm in telling me that they were solidly booked. I felt very drawn to Neuro Vet, so we drove 1.5 hours from our home on New Year's Eve to visit them. They were absolutely PHENOMENAL. I am so incredibly happy with the way that they have cared for him so far. We took him back yesterday for what ended up being a full body MRI and a spinal tap. We will find out more about what is going on soon. Thank you wholeheartedly, Dr Fitz and the whole Neuro Vet team!!!!

I brought my dog in as an emergency neuro case last Thursday because she spontaneously started limping without an injury and she had history of spinal stroke symptoms/back leg lameness. I did as I was told, I asked questions and provided updates, scheduled the MRI, and flagged that I was concerned her symptoms were something else like ATE (aortic thromboembolism) since the meds they prescribee seemed to make her symptoms worse. The vet tech who answered the phone after our visit dismissed my concerns and questions about my dog's treatment. Even though the Dr told me to call if the medication they prescribed made my dog better or worse, when I called and expressed my concern and disclosed that my dog has kidney disease and it seemed like medication was causing more problems, the vet tech at Neuro Vet said it was impossible for the medication to make it worse and seemed reluctant to help me. She seemed confused on why I was updating them (the Dr told me to?) and she repeatedly told me there was nothing else they could do to help my dog without an MRI (this was also not what the Dr said, regardless at this point their clinic couldn't even do an MRI for over a week and we already were on the schedule). I scheduled 3 different emergency MRIs in the area, none of them could see my dog without waiting more than a week. When I got my dog to her primary care the next day, they were surprised the Neuro Vet did not do blood work and only xrayed her leg. I was also surprised because I was concerned about her spine and thought neuro vet was doing more than just looking at my pups leg (leg xray and neuro consult plus 14 days of 2 medications = $778). My primary vet listened to my concerns and started doing blood work and other tests to rule out a clot due to my dog's history (this was given to Neuro vet too). My dog improved over 3 days, but on day 4 she suddenly died. She died waiting for her MRI appointment. Her blood work came back with a bunch of abnormalities, but the results came too late. No one once even suggested her condition was life threatening. For whatever reason, my dog's pain and my concerns were not taken seriously, the Neuro Vet dismissed her pain as 'just her breed, they are known for being dramatic' and dismissed me when I was desperately trying to get my dog help. This place brags about having neurologists on site 24/7, but what good was that if I couldn't talk to them or adjust her medication after being seen? I asked for help and tried to advocate for my girl every step of the way, and it felt like the fact we were asking for help was a massive inconvenience to whoever answers the phone there. I was told prednisone and amantadine is all they could possibly do for her. She was only 6 years old. She did not deserve that.

We will forever be grateful for the team at Neuro Vet. Our 3-year-old Frenchie, Piper, had a herniated disc in her neck (IVDD). She was in excruciating pain and our local vet recommended we go immediately. The team was wonderful, professional, and you can tell that every person there truly cares, starting with Dr. Erik Johnson. Our girl went straight from the MRI into surgery and was back home with us the next day. The staff kept us informed the entire time and this was the first experience I've EVER had when a doc said to me, "thank you for taking care of your girl." I can't say enough nice things about this place. About a month later, Piper is back at it like it never happened. We received SO much education through this experience from the start to the post-op appointment. So not only did we get our girl back on track - we are now also armed with the knowledge to prevent further complications.

Dr Johnson & Lou are absolutely phenomenal. They have gone above and beyond for my beloved cat Duke. I am so grateful we have such an amazing neurologist in our area. Their new hospital is gorgeous and state of the art. I am so blessed Lou has been there for my cat and listened to all my concerns and gotten answers for him. Thank you truly for Dukes exceptional care.

We found Dr Johnson 2 years ago (at a different practice) when our Frenchie had a herniated disk. He was amazing and fixed her like new. Unfortunately, last week she was showing signs of another back injury. Stressed and upset, I found that he had opened his own practice. I called and they were able to take us a few hours later as an emergency appointment. Our Stella did in fact have another herniated disk. Dr. Fitz operated on her that evening and she is back home recovering. I can't say enough about how amazing Neuro vet is.

    Birdie, the epileptic.

Dr Johnson and his team, I see you Lou, were amazing. This new hospital is top tier. The aesthetic is unreal. You have to see this place to believe it. From the gold accents in the bathroom to the sleek design. But much more importantly, the experience was seamless. We waited all of 5 min to get into the exam room. Lou was great, she always is. They were so kind to my anxious frenchie. And genuinely care about her. When she was diagnosed with epilepsy, I was so upset and freaked out. Dr Johnson put her on Keppra and she hasn't had an episode since then. I cannot recommend this practice highly enough. We will never go anywhere else for our Neuro needs. It's also very reassuringly to know that they take emergencies as well. May we never need that service. Thank you to the neuro Vet team, y'all are unmatched.

They admit they did surgery on my pup in wrong place

This place is the worst!! Dr. Otamendi did surgery on the absolutely wrong location on my pup! They fully admit it! See the attached statement showing it in writing. I took my 5 year old Boston Terrier in 3/28/26 with a herniated disc at C2-3 after he just ran into another dog at the park. They said the surgery would be $14k (yikes!) but he had a 95% chance of full recovery, so I went ahead with the surgery. They call me that night to tell me they messed up and did surgery on the wrong location at C3-4, and he would need another full surgery the following morning at C2-3!!! So he had to have full anesthesia and another full surgery the following day. Following surgery he was totally unable to to move, stand and and he was not improving. By day 5 he was having trouble breathing. They said to take him to an emergency vet, so I took him in and he had pneumonia. The emergency vet told me Boston Terriers (Brachy short nosed dogs) can often not tolerate anesthesia and surgery and he got pneumonia most likely from the two surgeries he had because of their error. We did breathing treatments, more meds, etc. and my dog still could not breathe and died. I was absolutely crushed. Additionally, because Neurovet says we can't directly prove the link that he died because of their error, I am out a total of $17k and I don't have my beautiful loving pup. They have returned $0. I will next be talking to an attorney. Here is my additional complaint with this place. I took my pup in at 11am for an appointment and I was not the first appointment of the day. He was supposed to be next in surgery. The same surgeon called me at 8pm to tell me about the error. This meant the doctor had been on at least 9 hours and most likely many more as they have one doctor on duty and they do back to back surgeries. This is great for the doctors and they explained because they can work a lot of hours back to back then they are off. Great for their work/life balance. I do not think this is good for my pet as this doctor must have been tired and made this error. We talked about this and the doctor I spoke to did not dispute this with me. Please don't take your pet here! Believe me, It is not worth the risk!

You never hope to need a neurologist for your animals, (especially a second time!) but my goodness am I grateful for Neuro Vet. Dr. Johnson, Dr. Fitz, and now Dr. Otamendi are the best, there are no other words to express it. The empathy, care, and compassion they have for animals and their owners is completely unmatched. From the moment you call Neuro Vet, you are treated with such kindness in a stressful situation. From my pup going into an emergency consult, to MRI, surgery, and now preparing for discharge, I have felt supported every step of the way. There is always a neurologist available, which is a unique experience in emergency care. To ease my anxiety while Auggie has been hospitalized, the neurologist on duty has called me both morning and night to ensure I had updates on my Auggie. I never feel like a burden when I am speaking to anyone at Neuro Vet, they understand how stressful and unique each situation is. If you are looking for a neurologist for your pet, look no further. Thank you to the entire Neuro Vet team!

From our very first visit, she completely understood and intuited the needs of our sweet dog Jojo, and has kept her healthy and vibrant well into her "senior years" (I use quotation marks because Jojo is about 13 years old but is frequently mistaken for a puppy, given how youthful and energetic she is). I can't even begin to express what a tremendous gift it has been to feel secure that we can handle any health issues that come up for Jojo, with the support of Dr. Rettig and her team. We animal guardians love our little ones so much, and there's nothing worse than watching them suffer and not knowing how to help. Whenever I can surrender enough to completely hand over the assessment and decision making to Dr. Rettig, we always get a good outcome. On more than one occasion, we have seen resolution of an acute issue within 24 hours of our treatment session. It's been truly remarkable. Dr. Rettig is an expert in holistic animal care, but on the few occasions that Jojo has needed specialty help from a traditional vet, Dr. Rettig communicated that to us immediately and supplied us with wonderful referrals. We trust her recommendations completely. Jojo loves Dr. Rettig, too! She is often eager and excited when we arrive at the clinic, which is not the case with ANY other vet we have taken her to see. We all know how lucky we are to have access to such a unique healing practice!
