This is a hole in the wall, but this is one of the favorites for many Koreans when it comes to Korean BBQ. This is the only place where they cook the meat before they put it on a grill. This is done to get the charcoal flavor into the meat, and not burn it when cooking it on the table grill. My friends took me here for my first Korean barbecue experience! We got a table right away and ordered the spicy pork and regular pork. My friend did all the ordering for us. Our server didn't have the best customer service, but she was fast which we appreciated. They brought us the meat already cooked, which made us feel like they might be trying to rush us out, but we took our time and enjoyed our meal. Been coming here pretty steadily for the last few years. Though not the best in Annandale, nor are they the cheapest in the area, they're definitely along the line of "best bang for your buck...ok 2nd best bfyb". I've been here many many times for over a decade, and at one point it used to be one of my favorite places in Annandale. Recently it has taken a turn for the worse. They've changed their menu several times, worse, their service and consistency in food have fallen dramatically. Sometimes the dish is perfectly as you expect, other times its terrible. More recently Annangol has had their liquor license suspended. Which means you can't have a cup of soju to go along with your food. Being that there are soooo many other alternatives less then a few blocks away, its hard to recommend Annangol to anyone in its current state. read more

I thought the overall flavor of the food was very good, but I thought the meats were a bit overcooked and I prefer the flavor at Honey Pig. Can't say it any better than Will and Alexis. One of my go to bbq places in Annandale. Not as good as their sister restaurant in Chantilly, however still does the best daeji bul galbi and the galbi jumuluk around. The banchan, jigae and steamed were a great complement as well. read more

We popped into this place fairly late one night, a bit before their closing time. When we asked the hostess if they were closing because we didn't see any hours, etc, she welcomed us in and sat us down. We were the only people in the restaurant at this point, and the hostess + the other waitresses there were all incredibly friendly and warm. They chatted with us a bit and gave us recommendations and it was an all around good experience. We got some bulgogi Korean BBQ and it was good. They gave us a lot of side dishes along with the BBQ as well and they were also good, especially the steamed egg. Honestly the service was enough for me to want to come back here, the food being good and not overpriced was just icing on the cake. I honestly liked this place more than Honey Pig, but Honey Pig is open 24hours and this place isn't which is unfortunate. read more

We came here early for dinner and with an empty restaurant, they sat us right next to the door. Then we proceeded to order and we got the kimchi and dumpling hot pot stew and spicy pork. I thought it was weird that when they served us the banchan, that they did not give us kimchi. How do you not serve kimchi at a Korean restaurant??? We had to ask the waitress and it seemed like they begrudgingly gave it to us. On top of that, I asked for a side dish that I really like and she at first, "OK" and went to get it, but then after coming back from the kitchen, she said, "We don't do that here." I was like alright, that's strange, but we continued with our meal. They were so inattentive that our stew burned on the bottom because they never checked on us! As a kicker, when we were paying our bill, I noticed the table next to us had the side dish I requested earlier. We confronted her about it and still said we don't do that here. The people next to us were eating the dish!!!!!! I don't know if they were discriminating because we look white or because they are cheap. Either way, I felt so insulted because although I am half Korean, I look more White. However, I do know my Korean food. Don't lie to us and say that they don't serve a dish when we could clearly see the table next to us eating the dish. Food is great but the service sucks. I've been here a few times but recently the waitresses were pretty lazy. Normally, side dishes come out before whatever you order but the waitresses didn't bring it out until we asked 15 mins later. It was hard to get refills on water even though the restaurant wasn't busy. The owner is pretty cool and provides great customer service. He comes around and greets and Occasionally comes around to check up on each table. Not once did the waitresses come by to check on us. But when we asked for the check... they got to the table pretty quickly. read more

My wife was craving Korean barbecue but did not want the wait of Kogiya or Honey Pig. We decided to try Annangol and glad we did. They actually grilled the meat in the kitchen before putting it on the table top grill which takes away half the fun, but the grilled pork was so smoky and delicious I can not complain. The smokiness would not have been possible on the tabletop. The seafood pajeon was also the best we have had in the area. Overall a great find. read more

A few points before my review. First the Korean restaurant scene here in the dmv is nothing compared to NYC or LA. With that being said Annangol is very below average. The quality of the food doesn't match their high prices. For barbeque go Gogiya and for soups, stews and fish go to To Sok Jib. Don't waste your money here. read more

Service here sucks. They have the dumbest rule I've ever seen. My wife and I went here to enjoy good korean food.....specifically - samgyeopsol for my wife. According to the waitress we had to order 2 meals from the BBQ selection just to get the one....and I was looking forward to some good bulgolgi....which was not a BBQ menu item. Needless to say, we walked out. We were not paying for three meals, when all we wanted was two. Will never recommend my friends to go there. Especially after reading a couple of other comments posted. The Koreans in the restaurants in South Korea were never this bad out of the three years I've been over there. Let me just start out by saying that the food here was excellent. If that's what you care about mostly, then take this review as a favorable one, because they were very good in that category. It also has a nice variety of food selections, although the number of selections is a bit limited compared to other restaurants in the area. It's also much more family friendly establishment compared to some of the other restaurants nearby (like Honey Pig). That said, it's pretty obvious they cater to exclusively Korean clientele, because all of the bad parts of my visit stemmed from the fact that I wasn't Korean. First of all, the staff that I dealt with while there didn't speak English very well at all, so it was really hard to get any questions answers. And I needed questions answered because the menu was not only very vague, but turned out, it was also inaccurate. They had dishes under the Korean BBQ section that were not Korean BBQ. Unfortunately, I didn't find that out until after I ordered and the food came out. They also impose minimum order restrictions on their BBQ dishes which are not stated anywhere. You're just told that you can't order a certain meat unless you order at least *blank* number order of that meat. Finally, I've been to Korean BBQs a number of times in Annandale and in other cities, so I pretty much know what to expect. The side dishes we were given were different from side dishes that other (Korean) patrons were given. For example, I've never ordered Korean BBQ and gotten a side dish of raw garlic cloves. I don't think any of this would be issues for a Korean patron, and I guess if that's the clientele they care about, these aren't really issues. But I did want to point this out, so maybe if you're thinking of getting a meal here, bring a Korean friend? read more
