I recently went to Annapoorna and got a few friends as we were craving thalipeeth and this time the thalipeeth was very different it was strangely dry and brittle, like stale bread - no crispness, no chew, and no flavour, we even got the thecha and butter with it but it was still not good . Honestly it was very disappointing because what we had last time was really good. But we also had their 1.Chura Vada Pav 5/5 2. Kothimbir vadi 5/5 3. Kolhapuri misal 2.5/5 4. Thalipeeth 1/5 :( The service was really good, they were very polite and attentive, and the ambiance is good as well. We got seated in 10 mins

Decent food. Have tried most of their dishes and would say their chaats are better than the curries etc. The vada pav is really good when hot and the dahi batata puri and Katerina bhel are to die for. Reasonable prices for bay area.

Well food is still good but their practices are misguided. Ordered their 4oz vada pav chutney along with a few other items and they completely shorted us. Gave us 4 tony containers of the chutney. Questioned them and they showed attitude and said its proper and it is 4oz. Came home and measured on our scale and it is 1.75-1.8oz with the weight of the 4 containers included. Pathetic practice.

Dahi batata sev puri and veggie sandwich - both delicious!

Annapoorna does the best dahi batata sev puri (puffed puri) and the veggie sandwich! The sandwich tastes straight out of the streets of Mumbai with the same exact flavors and filling. I love their shrikhanda and alu bhaji also. Haven't dined there in a while and mostly doordashed my orders but will definitely visit since it's just minutes away from home. They have combo thalis and puran polion their menu which I'm most excited to try. When we dined there some years ago, the hospitality and service was great as was the food. They have ragda puri instead of pani puri which has matar as pani puri filling and not alu. Tastes great though. Can't wait to dine in!

The food was absolutely delicious, and the owner, Meenakshi, was incredibly gracious--so warm and friendly! We ordered the Thecha Vada Pav, and it was super flavorful--spicy, but just the right amount. The balance of flavors and textures was spot on. We also tried the Misal Pav, which was quite good, but the highlight for me was the Bharli Vangi with Bhakri--so rich, comforting, and perfectly cooked. I'm definitely coming back... pretty sure I'm going to become a regular here! Meenakshi also mentioned their other restaurant next door, Asian Bowls, which they own as well. The concept sounds really interesting, and a few items on the menu (especially the Khao Suey) definitely caught my eye--I'll be visiting soon! The service was great too--the staff was friendly, and the place was clean and well maintained. As someone who's a big fan of Maharashtrian food and holds Indian cuisine to a high standard, I can say this place truly delivered. Thank you, Annapurna and Meenakshi, for a wonderful dining experience!

*Vegetarian Foodie Review* We went here during the Gudi Padwa (Indian festival) weekend and they were super busy. However, wait time was not bad given the situation. Ambiance is average, more like a casual dine in spot. This place is small with very few tables indoor, however outdoor they have multiple seating options. We had to order directly from the scanned menu. Service was a little slow that day. They tried their best to serve items as they got ready. We ordered: - Misal (Kolhapur) Paav - 5/5: Best Misal Paav ever! Authentic taste and a nice spicy kick, very close to the one you get back home. - Paav Bhaji - 2/5: It was below average. Taste and flavor was very basic, I would totally skip this dish - Sabudana Vada Plate - 3/5: Texture and taste was good. I have had better elsewhere. However, the sweet curd offered as a side with this dish is yum. - Paneer Paratha - 5/5: It was mild yet flavorful and perfect for my 4 year old. She loves paneer in any form, she ate half in the restaurant and other half in the home next day.

Visited this Maharashtrian restaurant for Saturday lunch at 2 PM and had a wait time of 20-25 minutes. Ordering is done through a QR code at the table, and there is no table service--if you need anything, you have to call someone and then wait for them to come. We ordered sabudana vada, Amul cheese pav bhaji, Mumbai misal, and a veg grilled sandwich. The food arrived as it was prepared. Unfortunately, the taste did not live up to its appearance. The vada was crunchy on the outside but dry inside, the pav bhaji's bhaji was served cold, and the misal lacked flavor--it felt more like a basic curry with poha and potatoes. The veg grilled sandwich had overly large pieces of bell pepper and was quite mediocre, nothing like an authentic Mumbai sandwich. Overall, the experience was disappointing, and after the meal, we felt bloated as well. Wouldn't recommend it.

It is THE place for authentic Maharashtrian / Mumbai street food. Got their chilli cheese toast which the waiter recommended (over their grilled sandwich). Also loved their sabudana vada and kothimbir vadi - both were excellent. Plenty of other dishes I'd have loved to try! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Ambience is alright. All-gender, clean restrooms. Free parking in the lot outside.

Authentic Marathi Food. This place is usually crowded on weekends; but every item on the menu is worth the wait. I have tried most of their items on different occasions. Sabudana Thalipeeth, Sandwiches, zunka Bhakar are my favorites. We had Thaali today which we felt was a bit costly though. Also Methicha Ladu as a dessert was such a big disappointment. Anyway, even though costly food tasted really good.

The bhel puri and Veg grilled sandwich are must try options. Never came to this place although it's close by to our home, they got lots of varieties for evening snacks, dinner items. Coming back for sure and trying other items. Parking is plenty on both sides of the restaurant and got to see the beautiful sunset by sitting outside, check the sunset picture posted with this review.

Vada Paav; Bharli Vaangi, Bhakri, Thecha, and Ghee
    David K.

Silicon Valley is home to a large Indian population, and with this diaspora comes restaurants offering authentic regional Indian cuisine. Annapoorna specializes in the bold, spicy, vegetarian eats of the western state of Maharashtra, all with an outdoor seating area (shared with two other restaurants) in the midst of office parks in Milpitas. The menu included classic Marathi street foods like Vada Paav, a carb-on-carb sandwich made of a crispy batata vada fritter (mashed spiced potatoes thinly coated in a chickpea flour batter), served on a soft bread roll with red garlic chutney and a green chili for extra spice on the side. In addition to street food, the restaurant also offered harder-to-find Marathi meals, including Bharli Vangi, made of Indian eggplant in a thick, spicy paste made of ground peanuts and coconut. The earthy mixture was served with Bhakri, a dry flatbread made of jawar bajra (sorghum and millet) flour, along with ghee and thecha, a condiment made of ground garlic, chilies, and peanuts, which added a pungent, fiery kick. The combination of all the different components worked together nicely, and the flavors were bold, pungent, and authentic!

And finally, the last person in this group will retire at the end of 2026 (well earned)! So if we are not all traveling, maybe we can actually get together more often...? Dare to dream. Okay, today we got the following. It was more than enough for all us light eaters. Actually, I was surprised how much we all actually ate, compliments to the chef. Beef Shawarma - Tender beef, good mix of beef and veggies. Good flavors. Chicken Shawarma - My plate, I finished most of it and had my daughter finish the rest. I got rice, falafel (my daughter ate 3.5 of the 4, lol), and fries as sides. I could have used more fries, but that was probably a good thing I did not. Mansaf - The lamb was so tender. My daughter took half of this to-go. Lamb Shawarma - Again, a very tender lamb Salmon - Was okay, the healthier choice. Tender, I would have preferred it less cooked. Salad - Another healthy choice. Lamb Kebab - A more hearty lamb. Actually this is my preference over a tender lamb. Tabsi Salmon - Again, I would have preferred the salmon less cooked. Was not dry, but would have preferred it to be more tender. Sides we all shared - Hummus, lentil soup, rice, falafel, fries, veggies, salad, carrot walnut (this was actually really good), freeken, etc. Dessert - Baklava assorted; my daughter took all of this to go... She did NOT share with the group, lol. Drinks - Mango Yogurt, Pine/App/Lem/Mint Juice, Franziskaner Hefe (can you believe I did NOT drink today :) ) , mint lemonade, fountain drinks, etc. Overall, the food was good. Ambiance - Huge location. Not busy at all. They closed the "private" room right after we got here. Nice decor, this used to be a Mexican restaurant. Plenty of seating. But we did have to move some tables around to accommodate our 9 person group. Full bar. See pictures. Plenty of mall parking - Be safe; see the sign of car break ins. Open 7 days a week - 11am to 9pm or 9:30pm. Clean bathrooms. Well, they are NOT signing the log; see pictures. Service - Counter service. Self service - Drinks, napkins, and sauces. We have to walk back up to counter for more utensils. Bus your own tables, etc. Price - $261 + tip; our generous friends paid!!! Thank you! Averaged $30 per person which was not bad for what we got. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success and with your 6 locations.

It is next to the Hui Lau Shan, which is great when we want dessert after This restaurant is very unique, as most of the dishes main component is mushrooms, which provide a different umami taste than regular dishes. We have tried the crispy silkworms, tom yum fried chicken, beef noodle soup, mushroom hot pot, chicken liver pate and yao tiao, laksa fried rice, stir fry cheung fun, wild mushroom conserva. Out of everything, I definitely recommend the tom yum fried chicken, mushroom hot pot and the laksa fried rice! Although the fried chicken doesn't have tom yum flavor, they fry the chicken very well, and the tom yum dipping sauce is on pointtt. The mushroom hot pot is definitely a favorite of mine. They give a lot of food -- it is warm, comforting. The broth also has a lot of flavor as well. The fried rice is definitely a top fave. They do a wonderful job incorporating the wok hei, which not a lot of restaurants can do. It is very present throughout the rice, and elevates the rice past the laksa flavor. The pineapple was a great touch and give it a hint of sweetness. I would pass on the wild mushroom conservative. It feels like they just stirfry it in butter, and that was it. I like the silkworm, but I know it's not for everyone. It is crunchy and it tastes kind of like peanut butter LOL. it is a great appetizer. I'm glad this place offers it. I think I've gotten a couple drinks -- alcoholic, and non-alcoholic. Also one of their ice creams. They didn't really leave a standout impression on me but still good to try!

Ambience is average to slightly modern but well lit decor. Being a weekday night, I think they weren't expecting too many people but at the time we went they had a 12 person party just seated. This made overall service extremely slow. I understand stuff happens but it would have been nice if we had been told upon being seated that service would be a bit slow due to being understaffed. Beyond just slow service the tables were sticky (my wife used the hand sanitizer on the table and a paper tissue to clean the table) and we had to ask for water twice. All that said, the owner apologised profusely when I went to the counter to pay, so there was some redemption. And now the food: We couldn't order everything we were hoping to try given the long wait time, but here's my rating for what we did order: Malaysian Noodle Soup (3/5): when it arrived it was barely lukewarm, so it loses a star. I was thinking soup will be served piping hot. The taste however pretty good. There's a kick to the broth but a good balanced broth on the whole with hint of coconut and light noodles (I don't like a soup where all you can see is noodle), which worked well for me. The only other thing was whosoever was adding the lettuce did a terribly lazy job - massive piece of lettuce sitting at the bottom. Banh Mi sandwich (3/5) - I'm a sucker for Banh Mi. For those who follow me, you will have heard me mention Bi Cycle Banh Mi more than once and that is the standard by which I judge all Banh Mis. While this Banh Mi didn't get close to Bicycle's, it wasn't bad on the whole. My only feedback would be add fewer jalapeños as they completely overpowered the subtle tastes of the sauces. Pad Thai (3/5): pad Thai looked as it was supposed to but it was missing one of the veggies as described in the menu. Taste was a bit bland but a dash of lemon fixed it. Khow Suey (3.5/5) - my wife gives this a score of 3.5, which says a lot. Good amount of veggies but wished the broth was a bit thicker. But she liked the spice levels and felt it hit her palette just right. Overall, I'd like to come back when it's a little less crowded so we can truly get a taste of the variety thats offered. Let's see what the future holds...

I came here on a Friday evening after hearing really good things about this location. But, my…read morevegetarian friend was not impressed as she has had better fake meat. She said the best thing with the best flavor of what we had was the spring rolls. The chow fun and sweet and sour savory were not super flavorful. The sweet and sour savory vegan protein was more doughy than I expected. It tasted and had the consistency of mochi doughnuts. The chow fun was ok, but didn't have much flavor. We did really enjoy the fresh spring rolls though. It was also not the greatest of starts either, because we walked in as their door was open but they told us to go back outside because they weren't open yet (we were like 15min before open) And then like 5min later, 2 people walked in and they were seated. So, we just followed them in and were seated. It was a large space so it can host small and large parties. Our waiter was super nice and friendly. And the food came out fast, but I wasn't sure if that was because we were one of 3 groups in there at the time. In total, it wasn't too expensive either. All 3 dishes I believe came out to be like $45 (without tax/tip).

This place really surprised me with how delicious it was! I was skeptical when my friend chose a…read morevegetarian place for her birthday dinner, but she said she had been before and the food is really good. I am one of those people who thinks that just about every meal needs animal protein or it won't be satisfying. Well, Happy Flower proved me wrong because I came away with a very happy and full stomach and I did not even miss the meat! We ordered 8 different dishes to share family style, and I was especially pleased with the all seasons sampler and vegan fried rolls appetizers, as well as the pad Thai, salted fish fried rice, hainan chicken rice, tomato fish, and happy clay pot entrees. Each dish was quite large such that all 9 of us were able to try generous portions of each dish. And then we got two servings of the mango sticky rice to share and the mango was amazingly sweet! I did not try their boba drinks, but a few of my friends ordered drinks and enjoyed them. Their boba drinks are sized quite large as well. I will say, the meat doesn't necessarily taste like the meat it purports to imitate, but the textures for the fake chicken and fish are pretty spot on! Service was friendly and helpful and they delivered the dishes at a good pace. The inside isn't fancy, but it's clean and well lit and spacious. I wish I had known about this hidden gem sooner, but they had a good clip of takeout orders and families coming in for dinner. Parking is also plentiful and easy in their large attached lot. I will be back!

I decided to try them out when seeking a vegetarian-friendly restaurant in the area…read more Crispy tofu: I asked for no peanut sauce. Crispy, and there is salt and black pepper in it, but overall it doesn't have much flavor outside of the sauce. Lemongrass fish lunch plate modified to have soy beef (you can switch out the protein): The broccoli itself itself was just steamed with no flavoring, so that was underwhelming. But the lemongrass beef is pretty good, firm and chewy not spicy. One of the others in my party got the eastern duck soup, which has a stronger soup flavor, you can taste the anise. It also has shiitake mushrooms. It came with veggie drumsticks, on an actual stick, but just takes like soy protein, doesn't really taste like duck. I tried a bit of Cali pho too, which was mild but pleasant, it has a ton of vegetables. Overall I'd give it more of a 3.5/5, there were certainly some items that could've used better seasoning/flavoring, but I do appreciate the amount of options that are suitable for vegetarians and actually being able to enjoy noodle soups that would usually have been meat-based. They do have outdoor tables and at the time when I had gone, no one else was sitting outside.
