I have to update my review from 2023. After coming here again many more times since 2023, I have to say they completely nail it when it comes to hospitality, authentic/homestyle dhaba flavors, and menu items that absolutely feel like you are eating at the chaat stalls in India. The commitment to making delicious food and flavors consistently is no easy feat (esp across a span of the 3 years we have been going). This is authentic, home style cooking! We most recently came here to celebrate my mom's birthday with family and we ordered the following: - mirchi/chili pakodas aka mom's favorite - lightly battered jalapeno/serranos fried and drained. Delicious! Perfect crisp, less batter, and with chaat masala on top. Was so light on the stomach. - batata vadas - vada pav - a family favorite - dahi batata sev puri - my personal favorite and so very well made (puris were so crisp and filled to the brim with tasty chutneys) - hara bhara paratha - a consistent 3-year favorite that keeps getting better with time. - methi masala puris with chole - my husband's and dad's all-time favorite. drinks: rose lassis, mango lassis, jal jeera, and the salted lassies are all wonderful! The owner knew it was my mom's birthday and made it so special by giving us gulab jamuns on the house and went out of his way to make sure my mom was having a great time. They make food with their whole heart, and when it's done like that, then you know you're always getting good quality food, consistently. Tried out this place for the first time with my mom on Mother's Day. They had both indoor/outdoor dining. Since it was a nice, warm day, we decided to sit outside. When we placed our order, it wasn't so busy, but after we sat down, a flock of people came out of nowhere and it got busy. Our four dishes came out staggered, and the latter two were delayed a bit but we understood due to how busy it got. Everything came out hot and the flavors were spot on. Their chole bhature was pretty tasty and so was their dal khachori with aloo curry. The kachori was so nice and crispy with the hot aloo curry. The textures were great. Ordered the aloo tiki chaat and it was pretty bad. Spices and flavor was good but the aloo was cold.. And service was awful. I arrived to pick up my order and the guy at the counter was just chatting with another colleague for a couple minutes before he even came to help me. Decent place for a quick meal with a large group. Ate here last night with college friends. We met at 7 pm and there was plenty of parking in their private lot. We decided to sit outdoors even though there was plenty of space inside. I was among the first few to arrive, and we started with masala chai and some appetizers while waiting for the others. Process is to order at the counter inside and pay, then they bring your food to you. Here are things I enjoyed, others which were ok, and ones I wouldn't recommend ordering. Enjoyable: Dahi papdi chaat - superbly made! Aaloo pyaaz paratha - also a winner! Adequate: Chili pakora - nice snack. Aaloo tikki with cholle - I've had better. Cholle bhature - filling but nothing special about it. Shouldn't order again: Bhel puri - dry and tasteless. Paneer pakora - not worth the calories. They forgot one of our main course orders, but replaced it with dessert. So we ended our meal with Gulab Jamun and Rasmalai, both of which were good. I've been meaning to give this place a try since I'd heard some good reviews about them. Finally got a chance to try it last weekend. I ordered Chole Bhature and bread pakora.  I haven't had a bread pakora in 25 years, so this brought back childhood memories. The pakoras were really good. It was stuffed with potato and peas masala and came with 2 chutneys.  Chole Bhature was pretty good as well. Although there are many places in the Bay Area that serve chole bhature, the bhature's here are authentic. Not a whole lot of places serve the same kind. The chole quantity was small. Loved the private parking lot and outside patio seating decor. The place is self service so you go inside and place your order. They call out your name when its ready and u come back and pick it up and pick up disposable cutlery water napkin etc and go back to your choice of seating. Prompt service and fresh preparations of chaats, paranthas, bhature really impressed me :) In $67, we got: - chole bhature 5/5 - the bhatura was huge and so fresh and piping hot. Super bhatura!! The chole were okay too. I liked the side pickle and onion cucumber that comes with it - pav bhaji 4/5- spicy and huge portion size..this comes with 3 buns instead of the usual 2 and they are drooling with butter - aloo paneer mix parantha 4/5 - again huge portion and freshly prepared. I wish it had some green chillis to add that extra kick. Nonetheless, it was still fresh and good. It comes with plain yogurt. - dahi sev puri 3/5- a little soggy by the time it reached us. I wished they called us separately first and just gave us this to eat while they cooked rest of the food - ginger tea 3/5- average and made from before Its not cheap so im not sure why they are using disposable cutlery and plates cups and self service. read more

The best chaat I had so far in the bay area, the paratha's are too good here, brought back the times when I enjoyed like this in New Delhi and Amritsar. A must try for the Samosa Chaat, its hot and tasty, usually the most of the restaurants I tried, all of them had a mild or normal temperature for the samosa chaat, but this place has a very hot temperature and best to eat during this winter time. Also the Paratha's are additional highlight here with achaar and yogurt. The service is quick and it takes usually less time and the food taste has very good consistency and must try the Paneer Paratha for sure. Too many spots available for parking , but might get busy in the evenings and make sure you try this place before 8 as they close by 8:30. read more

So this place is no fancy frills. Very basic infrastructure, it's just about clean and in an old building (this applies to the bathroom as well) You go and order the food and it comes to you extremely quick. It's a pick up style service. If you're hungry and in a pinch for food this is the place to go. We ordered a few dishes. The Pav Bhaji, which in my opinion was my least favorite dish. It was a little too oily and strong for my liking. The bhel puri which also was pretty average. Out of their entire menu don't order these dishes as I would consider them more Mumbai style than Delhi style. For the stars of the show, the mooli paratha, paneer paratha were both excellent! They had a reasonable amount of grease but not by a whole lot. The yogurt it came with was also not surprisingly sour. If you're a pickle person this pickle was pretty amazing too. The sev dahi batata poori was some of the best I have eaten. Crispy, not too sweet, held it's shape. That's how this restaurant has earned the stars. This is proper street style desi food. Would rate this place 3.5/5 Used to visit this place often in the past but with the recent price increase I don't feel like it is worth it unless I am really craving for Chole Bhature. This place can get very busy on weekends in the evening with wait times upwards of 30 minutes to get your food after ordering. Another chaat place that we spotted recently in Sunnyvale. Parking can be a bit tight but it's every bit worth it waiting for the last spot that you could get around to park :).. Got seated inside and we started with an order of 2 samosa chaat, bhalla papdi chaat, aloo tiki ( no chole) as our appetizers . We did end up ordering paneer pakora as well ( with our second round) so that we could enjoy those with the tea. Samosa chaat was great and I heard the same about the aloo tiki and bhalla papdi chaat as well. Pretty authentic taste I'd say. For our round 2 we got a couple of chole bhature and I ended up getting Hara bhara paratha. We did order a mango lassi as well ( which turned out to be just ok) and tea which did turn out to be very very strong and it looked like it was left for long on the stove to be made. I think I will stop trying chaat in the Bay Area because it sucks! The puris are very big and tough, the sev is too big, the chutneys are not balanced at all and end up being overly sweet and the yogurt is terrible :( why is it so hard to make good chaat here? I lived in a india for 9 years total and I know what a good chaat should be. This was decent, edible, passable. Definitely not authentic and just not enjoyable for me a person who has had amazing street chaat in Mumbai. If I would have to return I would do it for the paratha and chole Bathura that's it. Another point of improvement would be to serve food in steel thalis and have proper crockery, silverware etc. Eating food out of plastic spoons and forks and cups is a disgrace. Don't business owners think about the environment and waste they create at all? Heartbreaking. This is most certainly not how food is served even in the most simple restaurants in India. Chaat was excellent in my opinion, but I'm not Indian so take my tastebuds with a grain of salt. We got a bunch of items to share with the table, Dahi Batata Sev Puri, Pani Puri, Aloo Tikki Chaat, Bread Pakora, and Paneer Pakora. The Dahi Batata Sev Puri was my favorite, but I have had better at another Bay Area eatery. As others have said the tamarind chutney is a little sweet, but I enjoyed it mixed with the mint chutney to tone down the sweetness. The service was great, quick and friendly. The staff was offering us free tea at the end of the night and while they kicked us outside they said we could stay outside for a long as we wanted. There is plenty of seating inside and out. While I don't love the plastic and disposable cutlery, plates, and cups they use, it does give it more of a street food vibe which is fun (just not great for the environment). Sev batata puri should have nylon sev which was amiss. Aloo parantha though is amazing. Stuffing is filled to the brim and served with punjabi achaar and plain yogurt. I liked the tea we ordered but could do less boiling as it went to little on bitter side. I would like to try more items next time. But I think there are other places in east bay with much flavorful chaat. Service was quick and and staff is polite. Delhiwala Chaat is a fast-casual vegetarian spot where you bus your own tables and order before getting seated. The menu has variety but is not overwhelming and contains all the staple chaat foods, along with parathas, chole bhature, vada pav, and pav bhaji. We ordered the dahi papdi chaat, chole bhature, and pav bhaji + rose lassi, desi coffee, and sweet lassi. The chole bhature was the best dish we had and the desi coffee truly tastes like Indian coffee. The lassis were fine but a bit too sweet and the pav bhaji had an odd, tomato-heavy flavor that wasn't like authentic pav bhaji. The papdi chaat lacked enough papdi and the chutneys/filling were less too -- Chaat Bhavan's papdi chaat is better and their pricing is also better -- stuffed parathas here are $10-12 compared to $7 at Chaat Bhavan. Overall, it's worth a try and the food is satisfactory I enjoyed being able to sit outdoors on a nice sunny day as well. However, I'm not sure that I'm compelled to return for any reason other than convenience. read more

Delicious! Chole Bhature is pure comfort food for me. That, with a mango lassi and some pakora and I'm in heaven. There's definitely enough to share for 2 people. They serve the food quite quickly through a telecom system. The ambiance is crowded as many people visit to enjoy with their family and friends, so you know this place is popular. Caveat that everything does have a tiny bit of spice, including the chole. I didn't think it was spicy, but my youngest struggled a bit. Rich and sweet mango lassi helped cool their mouths. Came here with my mom and absolutely loved the food. We got samosas to go which were great re heated the next day and chana bhatura and dahi batata sev puri. Both were amazing. Somehow the sev puri was still pefectly crispy and crunchy despite the liquid and was so well balanced between liquid/filling. There's also a 5% discount if you pay by cash. We came here on a quiet weekday. The menu was crisp. Has all Indian varieties generally available in a small chat shop in India. They have outdoor sitting as well making this place accessible for pets and plenty of parking (atleast for a weekday). The service was a little slow, I'll give it to the time they take in preparing the orders. The bhature I see are prepared fresh. We had samosa chat. It was hot. The samosa was very well cooked and the Chole was soft and well seasoned. The dish was Ona sweeter note for me. But, my partner enjoyed it thoroughly. Dehliwala stood out because we wanted sample a variety of dishes without breaking the bank and thought a food truck would fit that bill perfectly. To our surprise when we got there, we couldn't find their food truck. Instead we found a full restaurant at the address location with indoor and outdoor dining options. We decided to give it a try anyways since we were there and we're so happy that we did! We ordered a variety of different dishes and they were all delicious. Since it was our first time trying Indian food like this, we weren't sure what to get and just chose from the most popular photos we saw on Yelp. Dahi Papdi Chaat - Sweet, savory, spicy and tangy. At the bottom were pieces of deep-fried flat puri that brought the dish together. Imagine Indian nachos! Definitely our favorite dish of all that we tried. Dahi Batata Sev Puri - This was the runner up. Similar to the Dahi Papdi Chaat in but in a fried dumpling form. Has a totally different texture and very slight different taste, but still worth the try. Paneer Paratha - Whole wheat bread stuffed with cheese, onions and spices. Came out super warm and soft. Perfect with the yogurt spread or other sides. Bread Pakora - Toasted bread filled with curry flavored mashed potatoes and peas. Nice appetizer. Bhel Puri - Crispy puffed rice with curry spices. It was a cold dish and had a heart flavor to it. They had a side of sweet sauce to it that helped balance this dish. Chole Bhature - Yum! Super soft and warm and served with a side of channa masala. Savory and filling. Must get. Mango Lassi - Super creamy fresh mango drink. Not sure if it's mixed with yogurt, or milk or even both but it's delicious! I was craving pani puri and decided to give Delhiwala Chaat a try. I have high standards for pani puri, and I was very pleased with the flavorful taste of my pani puri order. I also ordered rasmalai and it tasted amazing. The service was fast. I was able to order and receive my order within less than ten minutes. I also tried some of the Aloo Tikki Chaat. The chole (chickpeas) were very delicious and the aloo tikki was tasty. It was just overall way too spicy for me. I don't recommend the paneer pakora. It was bland, even with the two dipping sauces. It also came to us room temperature, not hot. The mango lassi is a pretty small portion, but very creamy! It has more of a yogurt flavor. Not a very strong mango flavor. It was very refreshing to drink after all the spiciness of the food. 10/10 recommend I've driven by this iconic corner spot more times than I can count and I am finally glad to say that I've gotten to try it! I brought my out-of-town coworkers and teammates with me to try all things chaat and they LOVED it. I personally love the aloo parathas and have fond memories growing up eating freshly home made ones by my grandma so it was definitely a blast from the past. I recommend any of the aloo (potato) and chole (chickpea) varieties but would stray away from the bhel puri since it might not be everyone's cup of tea. That dish just tastes like savory rice crispies. If you're going as a group and are looking to try multiple things, I'd recommend getting at least 2 different parathas, the mixed pakora dish, and at least 2 chaat varieties. read more
