This place has the best butter cookies I've ever had -- melt in your mouth delicious, fresh, buttery and tasty. But this Easter I decided to forego the beloved butter cookies in favor of some decorative-looking mini Eclairs and Napoleons figuring they'd be just as delicious as the butter cookies but sadly we were very disappointed. The Eclair filling did not taste like homemade custard (creamy and yellowish in color). This filling was white and tasted of too much powdered sugar and just had a funny taste like it came from a mix or something. I expected the Napoleons to be flaky but they were soggy and the French creme filling inside also tasted fake. Not every place does everything perfectly so going forward I'll stick with the delicious butter cookies here. read more

I was here today to grab a couple dessert items for a dinner party. I am from out of town and the girls working the counter were so nice and helpful. The black and white cookies and petite pastries were absolutely delicious. Will surely be back again next time I'm in NY. read more

The cakes are ok but the attitude that you get from Anna her self is not worth the trip to the bakery. She makes you feel like she is doing you a favor when you ask her " can you make a cake to look like this " time for her to retire !!!! read more

If you haven't tried Anna's crumb cake, it is the BEST! Perfect ratio of crumb to cake and it always delivers. So good! Also, her marzipan in the shape of miniature fruits is really delicious-- mostly made around the holidays. Scrumptious! read more

I cannot begin to explain how frustrating it has been especially over the last few months of coming into Anna's. Seems like the girls behind the counter like to put a little extra on the weight of your request and then say, "its a little bit over okay,? NO, its not okay and I will explain. A little over imo is .06 If I ask for a pound of cookies and the weight is 1.06, I can deal with that. The last 5 times, it has been 1.19, then 1.26, 1.28, 1.35 and yesterday.. the last straw, it was 1.45 !!! She proceeds to tell me that it is a little over. I respond, "actually, thats almost a half pound over, can you please take some out?" The girl walks over to the corner to put back the cookies and Anna says something under her breath to the girl and they both smerk. I am done with this bakery for good and I will make it my duty to spread it to everyone I know and come in contact with. That is not the way to do business at all. its not the $, its the principle of it. \ And not for nothing, their stuff is okay, I can get 10x's better for half the price per pound but thats in brooklyn in my old neighborhood. I'd rather go into rockland bakery, at least they will not pull this type of sneaky underhanded tactics. A real shame this is and Anna should be ashamed of herself for being so greedy and rude. This bakery has been around for years, but idk how they stay in business. When you walk into a bakery it should smell delicious and this one smells awful! The atmosphere is unappealing. Anna herself is very rude and not knowledgable. You ask her for a certain type of cake (pre-made) and when you bring it home and cut slices, you find out it's the wrong cake! How can she tell someone that a chocolate frosted cake is a buttercream frosting with yellow cake inside, when in fact it was a seven layer fudge cake!!! Several years ago we had ordered a fondant special theme cake (not too many other bakeries around did that type back then.) We wanted it to serve 15 people and she refused to make it that size, claiming it wasn't possible to do so. We wound up with a cake that could serve 40 people!! Anna is just difficult and not a good business woman and her cakes are not the quality of other bakeries in Rockland. read more

I make a special trips to get things at this bakery. For all of you who complain about rudeness, well privately owned business come with the person who made their business great. If the personality of an establishment out weighs everything else, dunkin donuts always has personality sterile employees and you can say any rude comment you want and they won't answer you back. And in response I'd like to say that everyone in the bakery has always been friendly and I've never had an attitude from any of the staff or from Anna herself. If someone's cake wasn't what they wanted I'm sure Anna would gladly refund them or give them the cake they wanted. As for my personal dealings, well the cookies are the best I've ever had and stay fresh for quite a while, pasteries are always delicious and last but not least my granddaughter's birthday cake was not only magnificent to look at but outstanding in taste. In response to Cindy R., I'm not sure what bakery you have been walking into, but as soon as you walk into Anna's Bakery (the best bakery in Rockland County), the amazing smell of pastries, cakes, brownies, cookies, and all other sorts of delicious goodness hits you right away. Other customers are always commenting on the amazing smell of Anna's. Even my friends and family comment on how I smell like an "amazing cookie" after only walking in there for 5 minutes! The workers and girls behind the counter make the atmosphere very welcoming and a fun place to be. They are very helpful and they know everything about the work that is done there. Anna, herself, is probably the most helpful person there- obviously because she came up with everything that is made there. Anna is not a difficult person at all. She knows what she is talking about and if she says two fillings in a cake won't mix well together then guess what! THEY WON'T MIX WELL TOGETHER. It is also impossible to make a cake with fondant that only serves 15 people because the cake would not be big enough to hold the weight of the fondant. To anyone that goes into Anna's bakery, she will tell the exact same thing. Maybe you shouldn't complain because you got a lot of leftovers and a lot more cake to eat! As far as getting a cake that you didn't ask for- people make mistakes! Many of the cakes there are similar or look similar and it can be easy to get them confused with each other. Anna's has the best Italian bakery ever! Being born in Italy and raised in the Bronx, near Arthur Ave I have tasted many amazing pastries and other goodies. Moving up to Rockland County made me miss all of those things. I have tried many other bakeries in Rockland and nothing compares to Anna's! She knows all of the customers names, always has a smile on her face, and is so enjoyable to talk to. I have bought countless cakes for my children's birthdays, graduations AND wedding cakes. She has never once given me an attitude or acted like she was doing me a "favor". This place is truly amazing not only her but her staff too. read more

Whether it's the danish, the cookies, or the amazing seven-layer cake, it is the only place I go for baked goods to serve and bring to friends. Anna's bakery is the best in Rockland County. The mini-pasteries give customers the opportunity to satisfy everyone with samples of each. The strawberry shortcake surrounded with cream puffs is always a crowd pleaser. Checkout the rasberry or apple crumb cake. Anna will make you whatever you want (Banna cream pie) if you don't see it. Take a box of assorted cookies for the kids, holiday cupcakes and pasteries are often available. The ingredients are top quality - no short cuts at Anna's. Her cannoli's are made on request - she doesn't premake to avoid your getting a soggy cannoli. Quality bakery at a reasonable price. How many bakery's have you gone to where you can speak directly to the owner? It seems like Anna is always there insuring you are satisfied. Special orders are not a problem with advanced notice. I was born and raised in New City, just a few minutes from Anna's. She is the original owner. It used to be Villa Bakery but she changed it after her divorce when she bought her ex's share. She is phenomenal and the bakery has been the best around for decades - I am now in my mid 30's and we've been going here since I was a child. I drive back from PA just to get her cakes and treats. She sent my brother pounds of cookies when he was deployed to Iraq. This is an old school bakery with old school heart and love of the community, the people and everything in it. You will never go wrong with any purchase. My faves are her Italian cheesecake, cannoli cake, napoleons, black and white cookies, pignoli cooies (greatest in the world) and my brother's favorite are her rainbow cookies (also the world's greatest.) Definitely the place to go for quality bakery items in Rockland County and surrounding areas. read more
