My only experience with Anna's was a breakfast sandwich on a long roll that was delivered selflessly to me one morning by a good friend of mine. We had several winemaking tasks to do that morning, including some barrel cleaning, bottling, and some other chores, which are not necessarily some of the more fun activities associated with the hobby, and here he comes with a wonderful breakfast sandwich. Despite living nearby and having passed this location so many times I remember their old sign by heart; "Anna's Sandwich Shop - No gas, better hoagies" due to their proximity to a giant Wawa with gas station that opened across the street, I had not been there to ever experience what so many people have told me is an essential spot to try in the area. This was my day to try, and I have to say that I was wowed. He brought me a steak, egg, and cheese on a long roll but also made sure to get wonderfully pan fried onions enmeshed throughout the whole sandwich as well as having it perfectly peppered. What left the biggest impression on me was how perfectly the flavors melded together and how easily I was able to inhale such a huge sandwich at the early morning hour without feeling too full. The only downside was that it left me wanting more, and I felt like I could have easily finished off a second one, and I don't know why. While I love food and trying new things, I can't generally eat extremely large portions. I like to try a bunch of many different little parts so that I can have a bit of everything, but here, I could have eaten enough in sandwiches to feed four people. Dangerous! I have not had the opportunity to meet any of the staff or even to see the inside of the place, but I have to assume that is is a typical Delco sandwich shop, which for me is a place I'd like to go. With up front, no frills friendly staff that is most likely local and has been for a long time. I do believe that it has changed hands recently but is still being run the same way it has traditionally be so don't expect any changes here. Just good stuff, and for me, so far that means delicious, overly consumable breakfast sandwiches. Stop by on your way down MacDade one morning and try one for yourself! read more

Drove by a couple of times, but never stopped in. Last week that changed. I wanted a cheesesteak, and was feeling adventurous. First of all its cash only, which still blows my mind in 2021. ATM on site. Called ahead for a Cheesesteak, light on the cheese, with salt, pepper, ketchup. They told me it was busy and that my order would be 20 minutes. That was fine with me. When I arrived there was only 2 other people waiting. I do not think that is busy. Anyway they have a small grill, where the owner was making the sandwiches. His Daughter was the cashier and his wife was the wrapper. A fine family run business. The steak was very meaty and a good size for about $11. When I got home i took a bite. I was really disappointed in the sandwich. It lacked that flavor that all cheesesteaks have. it was well into the afternoon so the grill was seasoned enough. It just lacked that taste that i was looking for. They might have to step up their game with Delco Steaks moving into the neighborhood soon, and Mike & Emma's down the street. read more

Anna's Sandwich Shop is a long established business in this area , having been established way back in 1935. While the building might be showing its age and the "FOR SALE" sign outside, this community has definitely embraced this business. There is something to be said for a business to have lasted this long. Think about it, Anna's was already a well established business when the United States entered World War II. This business has seen its community change, as well as the world around it, yet it has been a constant in this neighborhood. They do give a lot of food for the money and the service is friendly and engaging. You could see that this friendly nature has helped this business last as the decades came and went. I had a cheesesteak and while it was OK, it definitely was underseasoned. A bit of salt and pepper helped solve the issue, but I wish it had a bit more seasoning cooked into it. Still, not a bad meal and the service will make you feel at home. I will give it four stars overall. read more

No gas better hoagies! - Is the sign that greets you at Anna's before you walk in. Very true! I remember stopping in this family run establishment years ago for a decent cheese steak and recently found my way there for a fine Italian hoagie. The inside is a tad dated, but charming. I was in line and could hear the locals and the staff catching up on whats new and how everyone and their families were. The owner was updating everyone on his recent hunting trip. Several members of a local rescue squad were even in there so that's always a positive sign (especially since they were only there for their food)! Friendly environment. They had a Best of Delco 2016 for hoagies banner hanging so I wanted to find out what that's all about! I ordered a small Italian hoagie with hot peppers and the owner started slicing the meat right in front of me. Made to order, always a plus! In typical Delco fashion he stacked the meat and cheese on top of the lettuce and tomato high above the roll. The hoagie had a nice mix of salami's, hams and cheese piled neatly and with good flavor. The bread was fresh and I believe came from Liscio's. The small hoagie was very filling and for a decent price so next visit I'll skip the chips on the side! All in all I think this local, long running family business is a must visit to indulge in their menu. The service was fast and friendly and you can tell there is a lot of pride in ownership and staff. Wawa can keep their crappy hoagie, these guys are legit. read more

What's funny is that in all the years I have lived in Delco, and in all the years I have known about Anna's, I have never once had one of their hoagies or cheesesteaks. So why the 5 star review? Quite simply put, their breakfast sandwiches are that good. They've been there for a long time. The grill is well seasoned. And they just know what they are doing. Great breakfast sandwiches served all day on mini hoagie rolls. I suggest the sausage egg and cheese by the bacon or ham or steak egg and cheese are Lunch is just as good. Their steaks and hoagies are great. They offer burgers and fries. The staff is friendly and nice but I would suggest calling an order in unless you are eating there. Not open until 11 on Monday and Tuesday is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. read more

Used to come here all the time during my high school days. I've since moved out of state, but while visiting the area I decided to go back for one of the great cheesesteaks that I remembered. Steak was good, but a little dry. Roll was excellent. I would have given 4 stars, but it was a pretty unsanitary operation. The guy making the steaks reached into the container with raw meat and never washed his hands afterwards. He cooked the steak and grabbed cheese and the roll with his contaminated hands. Pretty gross. The guy making hoagies went from putting meat on the sandwich to ringing up customers and handling money and back to making sandwiches. Never thinking to wash his hands. Maybe that's how it was back in the day, but I have to say I won't be back. read more

Annas is the third, in what I consider to be the Folsom Cheesesteak trifecta after Mike and Emmas, and Franks ( I can't help but think that all these places are named after grandparents.) Unfortunately , I'd also place it 3rd in rank as well. It's not that Annas makes a bad cheesesteak. It was certainly plentiful, a good sandwich for your buck. Speed and staff were also great. Like Mike and Emmas, I imagined that the grand dame making the steaks was Anna herself. Good points aside, the cheesesteak was just ok. Possibly better than average but not great compared to the nearby competition. The roll was a little too soft and soggy. The meat, while plentiful lacked the savory flavor I was hoping for. This being said, if you live in Delco, give it a shot. It obviously has a good fan base even without my stamp if approval. While it's not really a destination suburban sandwich shop, like Mike and Emmas or A Cut Above, it will give you a hearty filling lunch. As long as the grandparents of Folsom people open steak shops, I'll be here to check them out. read more

So here's the thing with Anna's...if I was rating them on taste alone, I would easily give them 5 stars. I've been coming here for a few years and I always get the veggie hoagie. It's huge, not on the menu, and they charge me less than $5. Score, right? So, by now you may be wondering what the problem is with Anna's. Anna's might be the best sandwich shop in Delco. They definitely have that private, small business feel when you walk in. They don't take credit cards, as you might expect from such a shop. But don't let that deter you, it's worth the trip to the ATM. Every sandwich I've had here is very good, and very generously stuffed with meats, but I'm particularly fond of the buffalo chicken cheesesteak. It's got just the right amount of spiciness, and isn't overpowered with bleu cheese. The rolls Anna's uses are excellent, and the staff is very friendly. One word of warning - the first time you come, you might think "I'm hungry so I'm going to order a large!" Yea...made that mistake. A large is about 2 ft long. It's a great value! The sandwiches at Anna's are HUGE. If you can legitimately consume a large, I feel bad for your blood, as your cholesterol levels are out of control. It's man-vs-food type portions here. That being said, I got a cheesesteak & the meat was a dry and bit under-seasoned...there are salt & pepper shakers on the table, and you'll need them. Anna's is an affordable, family-run joint, and I'll be back to try one of their Italian subs, as their bread was solid...but I don't think I'll do a cheese steak again. I have to agree with the OP, this is a great place. While I've always lived in Delaware County, we've just moved to Morton, which is near Anna's. For years I had seen the place right across the street from the Veteran's Park with the mounted artillery piece, and on Saturday in the mood for a cheese steak, decided to try it out . The place is small inside, really not much more than an ordering counter and a deli counter, but there are a few tables to sit at. (One would accommodate 2 people, one 4 and a larger one for about 6. That's it.) As mentioned by the OP, it's a family run affair, and it looked like the grandmother was the cook. The cheese steaks she turned out were huge, and we ordered the 'regular' size. They must have weighed more than a pound apiece. You couldn't even eat them without loosing part of the meat. (Thankfully, we ate over a plate.) My wife actually complained that there was too much steak, and not enough mushrooms and onions on hers. The only complaint I could have (if you can call it that), is that they do not take credit cards. It's a cash business, so if your in the mood for really good, filling cheese steak, just make sure you have the cash to buy. I can't wait to try out one of their hoagies. read more

Does Anna's make a solid cheesesteak and/or hoagie? Absolutely. Is it the best I've ever had? Nope! I've heard all sorts of great stuff about Anna's from friends and fellow Yelpers, so I had really high expectations when we ordered from here last night. The boy and I decided to split an Italian hoagie, a cheesesteak with fried onions and mushrooms, and some cheese fries. I ran over to pick up the order and rushed home with the sweet scents of potential delicious coming from the bag of goodies. My first impressions: the cheesesteak was packed full of meat, but looked a little dry (and it was); the hoagie looked a little sad (could have used more meat); the fries looked like fries (and were pretty good). Don't get me wrong, both sandwiches tasted delicious and the rolls were perfect, but I was just expecting a little more from the hype I had heard beforehand. Sadly Anna's won't be my first choice when searching for the perfect cheesesteak/hoagie in the future, but I will definitely be back to try out the breakfast sandwiches! read more

Came back to town late and wanted cheesesteaks. My usual dining partners and I don't agree on where to get the best one so we end up trying new ones like our visit to Anna's. As stated by previous reviewers, the sandwiches are large. The ratios are wrong--- amount of meat is way too much for the roll and the cheese used. The meat is a bit more grisly than other places - found a lot of it stuck in my teeth. And yes, they need to learn to use the the salt and pepper. Service was fine. Parking is limited to 2 spaces and plenty of yellow poles prevent you from parking on the sidewalk. It's in an old building so it is not handicapped accessible. read more

He is who he is, has a sharp, dry sense of humor and knows all his regulars by name (and what they like to eat). You just need to know how to take him. It is a family run business and part of the Folsom, Pa community. I love their cheesesteaks, BLTs, hoagies, mixed cheese hoagies and breakfast sandwiches! It has a mom and pop feel (cause his mom and pop ran it forever), cool old counter and plenty of tables for a small joint. Regulars often sit together at the bigger table. Morning and lunch rush full of regulars. They will make you whatever you want if they have it...if you ask nice. :) Not open Sundays and opens later 11? on Tuesdays. Usually closed by 8 pm. These cheesesteaks are the biggest I've ever saw or have eaten! Three people can split a large and they will all be stuffed! The service is fast and the cook is entertaining. This used to be my go-to place for to-go cheesesteaks and I've ordered there at least a twenty times but stopped a few years ago. I find the owner very intimidating and obviously annoyed at everyone (customers and employes) and I was just picking up an order I phoned in. Am I alone on this? I hope writing this review isn't a mistake. For selfish reasons I don't want Anna's to get too crowded. But, I must write a rebuttal. I just finished watching a Food Network show about Philadelphia's legendary cheesesteak rivals -- Pat's and Geno's. I once fell prey to the hype and tried them. Never again. Forget the crowds, the long lines of tourists and rude service just to experience an expensive, mediocre product. In the 1930's Anna's was my great-grandparents' favorite Hoagie shop. Today, it's still the same shop, owned and operated by the same family. Google map the address and check the street view. This tiny little shop that occupies only a part of the first floor of the house has been turning out the absolute best hoagies and cheesesteaks for 3/4 of a century! I grew up on their sandwiches. Now, living in the mountains of Virginia, we have to plan at least one pilgrimage per year. Caution: If you plan a visit check their hours. Unless they've changed, they were always closed on Sunday and Monday. You won't find tourists here. You'll see the locals lined up to take their family's lunch or dinner home. (They only have seating for about 12 people)Notice how the staff knows the name and order of most customers as they walk through the door. If you want to savor the ultimate Philadelphia sandwiches (for about the same price as a trip to a fast food burger joint), or, if you are one of the many displaced Philadelphians suffering with one of those unexplainable cravings that you get for Hoagies, Cheesesteaks or Tastykake -- Find Anna's. I was expecting to blown away quite frankly based on the reviews, so after going there and driving from Philly, I was dissapointed to be underwhelmed by the breakfast sandwiches. You really have to order the "double" sandwich to get a hearty grub , and the sausage they used was like a smoked kielbasa style, which is okay. But I was in the mood for actual breakfast meat. The sandwiches are okay for Delaware county, but knowing that Philly has some of the most amazing breakfast sandwich spots going, this was honestly a let down. This place makes a great cheesesteak. I've tried them twice and they were made as ordered. These sandwiches were overflowing with meat, not to greasy, and were quite tasty. The inside of the store looks like it hasn't been remodeled in the last 50 years. I think it adds character to the place. It has a limited menu And I imagine everything else is good. Came here last week with a few coworkers because Mike and Emma's was closed (which is also very good). They load the cheesesteaks up with meat but put enough cheese to keep the meat/cheese/bread ratio in the acceptable range (unlike Gooey Louie's). read more
