I've been here a couple of times & I had enjoyed the food. However, during my most recent visit I was a bit disappointed. I came during the first week of October to celebrate my mother's birthday & there were 7 of us. At first the hostess sat us down at a small circular table (something better suited for 4-5 guest). Once seated our party decided that this table arrangement wasn't going to work for us so when we asked to switch tables we got an attitude from the hostess, but she accommodated us nonetheless. Now trust me, I understand that in the midst of a pandemic everyone in the restaurant industry is trying to figure out the unfamiliar task of dining al fresco, but there's no need for unprofessionalism. In addition, as the night went on it started getting cold and none of the employees knew how to turn on the space heaters. A gentleman at the next table over was kind enough to part from his dinner & turn it on for us. The food that night was sub par & my mother actually got a stomachache that night. She had the sea bass I believe. All in all, 2 out of 5 stars is appropriate for the service & food. read more

I live about 15 minutes away from this place and was really looking forward to try it out. We came on a busy Friday night when they had a band playing. The ambience was great.The wine bar was nice for a beginner or intermediate. We ordered several tapas, an entre and desert. The gnocchi was amazing. Even my boyfriend who is super picky loved it. The prime rib was great. The baked oysters were gross and I love oysters. We had the creme brulee cheesecake which was fine but the espresso biscotti martini I had with it stole the show. I kind of liked this place. On the high end of what Hammonton has to offer. It has an interesting menu and a darn good wine list. Lunch on Tuesday did not require reservations. In fact as I walked up to the door I wondered if it was open. The wine list is extensive and features some high end wines by the glass. I settled for a mid range Barbera that was quite nice. Pick observation... the wine list was in a binder and the pages were torn by the rings.... not 1st caliber... Food was good. We started off with the salami plate... lots of three very good meats accompanied by a good tapinade and hearty sesame bread. As an entree I had the chicken in a caper mushroom sauce. Delightful. My companion enjoyed the eggplant tower. Thin slices of eggplant cheese and sauce. All in all this is a great resource for the town and I'll be happy to sample more of their wares. read more

But when you come in,they tell you to sit wherever you are comfortable.We wanted to sit In one of their cute wine cellar type booths, which was open., But they told us they had a request for that booth. My hubby is Italian, and was dying to try this place. Despite my nagging, he chose not to make a reservation. It was early on a Saturday evening when we arrived. At first, we thought the place was closed, since no-one was seated near the windows. We went in anyway. A lady by the front door asked for our name. Hubby gave it, and continued, "Does it matter that we don't have a reservation?" The hostess snapped, "We recommend a reservation". I called to her attention that the entire front of the house was empty. To which she replied, "If you want, you can sit at the bar. Maybe a table will open up." Hubby knows that I have never sat and drank at a bar in my six decades of life, and he just shot her an evil look. Well, beautiful atmosphere and good service. Very nice people in a location that most certainly has high hope for success. The food is the problem. Very poor presentation of appetizers ( cheese and meat tray). The lobster mac and cheese was perhaps the worst presentation and preparation of a time honored dish I have ever seen or tasted. The waitress did deduct it from our check. The pasta was average as well as the crab cakes. They need to step up the food prep and presentation..... too bad as this is an adorable little restaurant. read more

I would love to give more than 3 stars but the extremely loud two person band playing while people are trying to eat dinner and hold a conversation ruined the evening. Live music is amazing and I love it, however live music that is extremely loud and being played in a smallish room while people are trying to talk is obnoxious. And this is at 6:30 pm. Dinner music should add to the evening, not distract from the beautiful atmosphere of this restaurant. Maybe someone should look around the room and realize the crowd wasn't going to be into hearing the theme from Batman and Secret Agent Man. The band should be playing bars where people want to get buzzed and dance, not at a restaurant where people are spending $20 an entree and $9 for a glass of wine. On a more positive note, our server was extremely pleasant and lovely. In addition the staff at the bar were both so friendly and welcoming. I can only surmise that the 2 gentleman in the band are somehow related to the owners or maybe saved their life in a war. I hope the favor is re-paid and their playing next week at your local watering hole, not at the Annata Wine Bar. PS-the Moscato was amazing! read more

I never right bad reviews unless needed. The experience was not good at this place. We took our mom at 5:30 for a nice Italian dinner. We had a reservation and were there an hour and half. We Bough two bottles of wine, 4 salads, appetizers and four entrees. A hour and half not sparing any time eating and ordering waiting for food and drinking....spending a good amount of money because this place it not cheap, we were asked to hurry up because they needed the table. This was as we just ordered the second bottle of wine for the table. We were told to move to the bar... which being nice people we did for them to seat other people who stayed there for 3 hours. I don't understand why we were asked to move when we were not just sitting around not ordering food or drinks. The food was absolutely amazing and that I give 5 stars but the experience was awful and unappreciated. read more

This is a darn shame. The food is pretty good, the value is very good, the service ok if we could have heard the servers, but the freaken noise. Holy crap its one of the loudest dinner experiences I have ever had. It was so loud that many times even with basically screaming, no one of our group heard each other. The management must know how loud it is what we assume to be a typical friday or saturday dinner. The prices are very reasonable, the food over all well worth it. I could list the individual plates, but after awhile of screaming just to be heard, who cares? Install some sound absorbing tiles, the acoustics just suck, suck in a big way. The place is really gorgeous inside. The wine selection promotes our local growers. I hate to give this place less than a satisfactory rating, but the food just isn't that good. I haven't been impressed with the 4-5 times I have eaten here. I was at a holiday party this year and they were handing out filet mignon sliders. It sounded exquisite, but tasted like frozen, then stalled, low grade meat. The crab cake was tasty, but that was it. In addition, it was such an unusual coincidence that 3 people I know and myself grew violently ill the very next day after eating here. That could have been caused by anything, so who knows. read more

The best part about Annata is the ambiance-- white table clothes, a lot of wood decor, wine bottles stored all over the place. It has a very relaxing atmosphere to it especially with their chairs. Anyone who's been here knows what I'm talking about. All of the chairs for the tables are ridiculously comfortable. For a wine bar, I was expecting more extensive list of wines. It didn't have any more or less than a typical nice restaurant. Now onto the food. Annata claims its food is tapas style. Whoever is trying to say their dishes are tapas style, needs a better understanding of tapas. The menu has two prices, one for a smaller size and the other for a larger. A few of the "smaller" dishes were ordered: the filet mignon cheesesteak sliders, pancetta wrapped pork tenderloin, and the lobster mac and cheese. There were three sliders, the only of the trio that were "tapas sized". They were good, but I was expecting a bit better being filet mignon steak. As for the pork tenderloin, this serving size was more like a traditional sized portion. The pork had a burgundy wine espagnole sauce that was amazing. The dish also came with a side of mashed potatoes that were very good with a garlic taste to them. Lastly, the mac and cheese was the size that could feed a basketball team. The bowl it came in was huge! The whole time I was wondering what the larger portion size came in. The m&c I felt was just ok and could have been better. Since these portion sizes are on the larger end, 2-3 people will be fine ordering the smaller of the two options. The nice thing about the huge sizes are you get a lot for your buck, but it is filling! read more

I'm a somewhat regular there. I go once every few months. I didn't think anything of it at the time but after thinking about it for the past week I decided to post. The older, blonde bar tender was just plain nasty. She kept shushing me and telling me I'm too loud and kept just being overall nasty. I wasn't loud or starting a fight. I was with my brother who just came home from marines and we were having dinner. I was at a table at first and then went to bar afterwards. There were other patrons who were louder than me. That's what ticked me off, because she was laughing and talking to them and didn't shush them and treat them as second class citizens. For me, she shushed me and acted like I was some untouchable. Oddly enough she didn't cut me off and continued to serve me. She needs to get a new job and a new attitude. Maybe somewhere where she doesn't have to work with humans or maybe as a prison guard where she can command people to be quiet. read more

I'm sad writing this review for the simple fact that this place is incredible, food, wine list, and cocktail menu. But the service is so below the standards they set for the quality and value of the establishment. My boyfriend and I went for the first time on a whim and spent $150.00 just on trying the different wines and cocktails, poor service. Went back with my two other people because the drinks and food were great, service again, they were not attentive or could care less how your experience went, my soup was ice cold, I had to wave her down from talking to a co worker to have it heated up, again spent another $140.00 for lunch. Went back for a THIRD time regardless of the bad service experience and that was it for me. They literally could care less if you were there or not. What happened to hospitality ???? I've chose to spend my money at places who appreciate my business and more than 20% tips.. unlike this establishment. A true shame. read more

I wish Yelp had a half star option, because this place is definitely a 4.5. Had to round it up, because it's almost perfect. The tapas were all good, but the oyster appetizer was a little too Italian influenced. They had an essentially Oysters Rockefeller they threw some sausage into, which wasn't the best idea. It was good, but a little weird. Creative, but it didn't ultimately work. The service needs a little work. They seem to have runners who take your initial order, then a dedicated server who takes your order again. The runner took our order for two glasses of Tomasello's Blueberry Champagne (delicious) and a cheese platter, and served the platter to us without telling us either the price ($12) nor the cheeses included. Luckily the cheeses were all delicious (especially the smokehouse cheddar) and the price was reasonable. After we'd eaten half the cheese, our server came around to ask us how it was and asked pointedly if the runner had told us what cheeses were on the board. We told her, "No", and she then named the cheeses for us. Our server was quick to recognize our wine choices - all we had to say was "We'd like the Stag's Leap..." and she said, "You want two glasses of the Artemis?" We did. We'd had the leather bound wine list open and it was on the cabs page. It was $22 a glass and worth it. We should have bought the entire bottle for $80, but we were going to see a show at the nearby theater (Urinetown - it was great! The theater was rinky dink, but the performance was as good as any live theater performances I've seen in Philadelphia), so we didn't have time to linger. That sounds like an overpriced wine, but a different, lesser year's vintage of the same wine is $50 a bottle at local liquor retailer Joe Canals, so the markup is impressively lower than average. And it's a dry and soft and wonderful wine that made the yummy blueberry champagne taste like a wine cooler. I would definitely pay $80 for a bottle of it in a lovely, comfortable restaurant like Annata Wine Bar. Not every weekend. Maybe once a year. They had an excellent wine list, overall. Lots of very good choices from the best wine regions, with many different prices. Their shrimp ceviche was disappointing. It was filled with very fresh ingredients and served with super crisp, delicious vegetable chips (carrot and spinach - the chips were better than the ceviche), but it desperately needed a splash of vinegar or at least lemon. The best was a special tapas plate of sweet pulled pork served on a sweet pancake. It was the second cheapest thing we'd ordered, maybe $13, and it was delicious and amazingly filling. While we ate, a jazz trio played in the corner. They looked like retired music teachers and they were really good. You could sit all night in their overstuffed dining chairs, slowly drinking a bottle of wine. Next time I go there (and I will definitely go there again), dinner will last two hours instead of one. read more

We decided to try this restaurant on our way home. The decor is very pretty and the appetizer was good. The problem came when I ordered the bronzino for my dinner. It was a very small piece of fish and was very tough and grisly. I have had bronzino/sea bass many times and it was never like that. I couldn't eat it. I told the waitress when she came over and showed her what I meant. She agreed and took it away. To my surprise when the bill came they still charged me for it. When I asked why she told me the owner would not take it off and wouldn't come out to talk to us. Needless to say I will never go back and I will tell every one I know what a terrible experience we had there. read more

I visited Annata for the first time last Tuesday evening. It was a great experience. The decor and seating was very rustic and comfortable! The waitress was friendly and helped my friend and I with selecting our wines for the night. We had the pan-seared prosciutto-wrapped shrimp salad for starters, then the gnocchi and Annata egg roll - all were delicious! We also had a very good ice cream with peanut butter and chocolate shell for dessert. I am definitely interested in going back and am so pleased to have such a nice place nearby! read more
