My next visit was a little more intense. The good thing was that the hygienist read my chart and helped with my anxiety. I was uncomfortable but she helped me through it. She asked me about anesthesia I told her I didn't want it. She told me that would be put in my chart. She was very understanding of my anxiety and helped me with it through the whole procedure. My third visit is when it started. This visit I saw the pareiodontist. This person and her assistant seemed very rushed. I tried to explain my anxiety but was unheard. She proceeded to inspect my mouth very rushed and unconcerned with my anxiety. She than told me my next visit she was going to cut me and remove three teeth. I told her I didn't understand because I'm feeling no pain and have no problems right now. She said that's what's going to happen and that she was coming back to speak with me more. I sat there for twenty minutes waiting. She never came back. Instead another person showed up and simply escorted me out. My next visit 08/04 I had called and canceled being cut and asked to speak with the dentist. When I spoke with him he understood my concerns and we came up with a different plan. He told me I was going back to the hygienist for a deep cleaning. I specifically asked at that point if I was going to see the hygienist I saw the first time because I had already established a relationship with her. I was told yes. I felt better and decided to go through with it. Which brings us to today. I arrived for my cleaning and it's a different hygienist than the one I requested. She obviously didn't read my chart. She had zero concern for my anxiety. She starts talking about taking my blood pressure for the anesthesia and wrapping my arm. Well at that point my anxiety spiked so high I was shaking. So I'm sitting there confused trying to explain everything and feeling ignored. She asked me if I wanted the procedure done at all or if I wanted to reschedule because my blood pressure was to high. I told her I wasn't sure if I wanted to come back at all. Another woman then comes in the room and wants me to make a decision. I ask who she is and she told me she was the manager. She begins to tell me that hygienists are different and do things different ways. So my question to this is why does everyone put things in my chart if nobody reads it. Shouldn't there be some kind of consistency when your using multiple people to deal with one patient. There is a reason for my anxiety being documented right? In my last review I showed concern and nobody even responded. So what am I supposed to at this point? Apparently the individual that has anxiety doesn't matter. I need dental care even if I have a condition.

My wife and I have been going to this location for well over 10 years. About 4 years ago (+/-),…read morethe main dentist left. It happened right after a corporate takeover. Things have steadily gotten worse. Cleaning before last, the hygienist hurt me. After the cleaning, the dentist reviewed photos of work that she suggested be done. One photo showed a cut to my gum. It was plain as day. However, she covered for the hygienist and said it was a pixel flaw ... or something to that effect. I knew better. My wife's cleaning was terrible as well...terrible. Her hygienist hurt her too. And, it was a different hygienist! Though my last cleaning went very well with a different hygienist, they charged my wife a total of $109 for laser treatment (used to stop gum bleeding during the cleaning process). Not once has my wife ever been told that her gums bled (excessively) during cleaning. The front staff warn you at check in that if it's necessary, they'll use the treatment and that there is an additional charge. They're setting you up. We're never going back...

It's pricey, but dental work is pricey. I just think Dr. Mata is very good because he is very communicative and takes time to answer questions and explain procedures. Even while he was getting my treatment he let me know exactly what he was doing so that I knew exactly how to let him know that I was OK. Means a lot; I appreciate communication. And treating somebody like they know something.

Having had extensive procedures in several other parts of the country (including several crowns and an implant that were well done by my previous provider, in San Diego), I was unsure I'd find an office in Tucson that could match the level of expertise I've had elsewhere. Dr. Mitchell made that simple -- he not only has excellent depth in general and aesthetic dentistry but is also just an incredibly nice person. I'm someone who experiences major anxiety in the chair, and I've found Dr. Mitchell's easygoing demeanor a huge relief. I also appreciate that the hygienist is extremely respectful and patient-focused. For instance, I'd had my last bitewings eleven months before, and before my arrival, she had noticed that and double-checked with my insurance to ensure I was eligible, but more important, she also asked me if I would prefer to have them a little early or wait until my next visit. It's completely refreshing to have the staff ask what the patient wants, instead of trying to push services or products. Another major advantage is the office itself -- located on Grant Road (north lane, next door to Black Rock Coffee, just across the street from the Mercedes Benz dealer and slightly west of the post office), the building has ample covered parking, and the interior capitalizes perfectly on stunning views of the Catalinas, with several exam chairs facing straight out to the gorgeous scenery...just another way to feel relaxed and happy in a place dedicated to making you flash your best smile!
