I came here the first time with my dad and my son to play pool and have dinner. I was pleasantly surprised to find they had grilled wings as an option. I love wings so grilled over fried is just the cherry on top. They had some great zucchini sticks as well. Their cocktails were creative. I had a honey and vanilla old-fashioned and the bourbon Bee which tasted great. The logo on their shirts "Get buzzed" brought a smile to my face. I went a second time with a friend and we had the Cajun Chicken pasta. Taste was 10/10. I like the environment; lightning, pool tables, set up & I like the waitstaff, very friendly and accommodating. I went here with my family on a Sunday around 5 pm. There was only one person working out front, so she was bartender and waitress, but she was very good at balancing both roles and providing efficient service. I ordered the classic cheeseburger with a side of Mac n cheese and it was delicious! The burger was very juicy and flavorful. The ambiance was pretty nice too. Not too dark, the music wasn't too loud, and it wasn't too crowded in here either. Made for a nice family dinner. This is a great restaurant located in downtown St. Charles with many different options for vegetarians. They also have really unique drink options that are a a must try. I ordered a vegetarian burger with fries and also got to try one of the pasta's with garlic bread and soup. The portions here are definitely great for the price especially with the pasta. The burger was decent for a vegetarian patty and the fries were really good. I also really loved the ranch that was given as it had the perfect sweetness to saltyness ratio. We also really loved the service as our waitress was really nice and always came to check in. The only issue I had was that it costed extra to replace the burger patty with a vegetarian one so that was a bit disappointing. The Hive is a quintessential bar in the heart of St. Charles that has a standard offering but fantastic service. A couple friends and I came in on a Friday night and were surprised to find a lot of vacant tables - we had our pick of the litter. The inside area is ample and I'm told there is an outdoor (patio? deck?) area in the back as well. Truth be told, I arrived first and hung out for a few while I waited for the others. This is where the top notch service started! Our waitress was Christina R. and she was phenomenal. She checked in on me a few times, probably because she felt bad for me sitting solo (haha), and was super nice. Once the others arrived she was full-steam ahead, taking orders, checking in, and making friendly small talk. She was such a breath of fresh air compared to the service I've had (in general) lately. As for the drinks, they have a solid selection of options and house cocktails of which anyone can find something they like. And the food, an average menu that covers all the bases (plus good wings!). We couldn't have been happier. Everything was delicious and came out hot and ready to eat. Not entirely sure if/when this place gets busy but we found the atmosphere to be chill and relaxing, the music at the perfect volume for conversation and good assortment of TVs if there is a game to watch. This is one of the only places in St Charles that shows the UFC fights, so they get an automatic five stars. We came to watch the fight last night and the place was PACKED by the end of the night which is such a fun environment to be in. The main card started around 9pm and we were able to grab a spot right in front at the bar but by 11pm the place was packed and several groups were just standing behind the bar. Bartenders were great and so were the drinks. The Hive is definitely my new go-to for fight night now! read more

Next time, I'd get an extra side of honey mustard because it was excellent. I didn't care for the chips, I'll get fries next time. The seasonal drinks were outstanding. My husband and I took our nephew out for dinner and a movie and tried the Hive because we've never been there before. Since it's a bar, I wasn't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised! Friendly service, but forgot to bring our cheese curds out before our meal. Only nit. Other than that, no issues. The Chef burger was awesome. I will for sure get that again. The fries were delicious. My husband loved the buffalo chicken sandwich... which surprised me. He usually doesn't like most chicken sandwiches he orders. My nephew loved his fish tacos. He finished his entire plate before I ate a quarter of my burger. I got the bomb pop, and it was good, but super sweet and not strong enough. My husband got something like an old fashioned, but it was too sweet for him. We will be back next time we see a movie out this way! read more

We came during happy hour at 5:00 on a Thursday. The place was dead. I think with all the new bars and restaurants this place just seems so old and outdated. The Portobello pub fries were pretty tasty. My husband said the fries were great but his burger was average at best. My $12 red wine was awful. My friends and I went in to celebrate my friend's 21st birthday, we just wanted a couple of drinks and some food to start off the night. We were informed that carding was more in depth and we understood that, but as soon as the waitress looked over my friend's ID we started to have some problems. The General Manager came over and accused my friend of having a fake ID and threatened to call the cops on her even though the ID came from the DMV just a few weeks ago in the mail since her birthday was early September. They said this very loudly and embarrassed her. The GM went back and scanned the ID to double check the authenticity. The waitress came back over apologizing for the mix up and told us the ID was in fact real and that she was looking for the wrong thing given that it was a state ID and not a driver's license. We left right after that. This situation was handled very poorly and I was so upset that my friend had to go through that embarrassment in front of a full bar. This restaurant needs to give the waitresses another training lesson on verifying IDs before throwing these accusations on people who don't deserve it. I understand having to crack down on fake IDs since it is a serious matter, but you need to learn the difference. read more

We enjoyed a wonderful Happy Hour and a delicious meal at The Hive Tavern and Grill located on Main Street in St. Charles, Illinois. The ambience is very much that of a tavern and very quaint. It was very well-maintained and clean. The music was loud, but not so loud that you could not carry on a good conversation at the table. The happy hour stretched until 6 PM. We had glasses of white and red wine for five dollars a glass and enjoyed a half price Portobello Pub Fries appetizer. The service was very good. The waitress, however, was unaware of the Lent menu located on their website. She was very quick and responsive in speaking to the kitchen and returned to offer the Lent specials. We enjoyed the Shrimp Po Boy sandwiches and a Cobb Salad with a Balsamic Dressing. The menu only offered three salad dressing options however, after we asked our server, she offered many other options as well. The meals were very delicious, the shrimp was seasoned to perfection, and the salad was very fresh. We would definitely recommend the happy hour and meals. read more

Friend 1 and I both got the Nashville chicken sandwich, Friend 2 got the Hive chicken sandwich, and hubs got the Fish and Chips. My food was excellent - the sandwich came with homemade potato chips that were a pleasant alternative to fries. Often they are coldish and limp (why is that?). So I was really looking forward to this - Yelp gave this as the ONLY place in the Fox Valley for great fries!
