The food is usually good, let me just start there. Nice portions, usually well prepared, cooked to order. From there, it goes downhill fast. I don't know if you're trying to impress us by not writing our order down, but you lose all of that good will when the order is wrong. Sadly, it happens all of the time. The lunch service is always severely under-staffed. One server for an entire room is a hefty demand for any professional. There is one waitress, and if you've been there, you'll know exactly who I'm talking about, who is mean, rude, doesn't make you feel welcome, and the last time I was there, she almost threw the plates on the table while practically turning the pitcher upside-down so liquid was flying everywhere. She's never to be found when you need assistance, she hangs out behind the bar or in the kitchen for long stretches, and it's a 20 minute wait until you signal you're ready for the check until the check actually arrives. Once she finally takes your card, she will disappear for *another* 20 minutes it seems, and you have to wonder where did she go with my card, is she in the back making rubbings or purchases? I'm joking but not about being unsettled. If she were friendlier, the whole get the check, do you need any boxes, any dessert to go conversation would be one conversation, not 4. I don't know how many times my guest or I will have to walk up to the bar to either get something ourselves or request, can you please take our check? NOT your normal hotel type restaurant. I'm a local. If you are a French Onion Soup lover, you must try it here. Probably the best recipe I've tasted. I also ordered the Pork Tenderloin. It was pan seared with garlic mash potatoes, pan gravy, and skillet Brussel Sprouts with crisp crumbled bacon. WOW !! It was good. Service was friendly and good. The menu has a good variety - something for everyone. And prices are reasonable, especially for the quality. The bartender told me that 95% of their dishes are scratch made. When you come to a hotel you never really know what to expect. I looked at reviews and was so so but because we flew in today and we were exhausted, we just stayed here. I'm so glad we did. The waitress was THE BEST. This woman was taking orders, bringing food, bussing the tables, being the bartender, and doing checks. Holy crap! We never waited long for anything either and she just kept going. She had at least seven tables and a few people at the bar too. She was legit. Give her a raise! Food was pretty good too. This place is the hidden gem that you forget even exists. I only found out about it because a friend invited me to happy hour here and her friend is one of the servers. I've gotten takeout here several times since and it's always excellent!! The Ribeye was wonderful, crab cakes were excellent, burger was fabulous, the French dip and French onion soup are also wonderful. We love coming by even when our main waiter isn't working because we get amazing service. Everyone is very kind and prompt and make you feel like they are happy you chose them. The food here is a well keep secret. Recently I had reason to stay here was was reminded of how good the food is. So many truly outstanding things on the menu. As others have said, it is a very good burger. I love the garden salad... not so much the Caesar. The entrees are quite good... grilled salmon with lobster and veggies is incredibly tasty -I think my favorite although the pork tenderloin with Brussel sprout and bacon stir fry is close in deliciousness. Very clean and friendly, accommodating service. The fish tacos were also quite yummy -everything was fresh, flavorful, and attractively presented. I have also been here with family for a weekend breakfast and the omelets were excellent. Nice neighborhood spot I need reminded to keep top of mind. read more

Last evening my husband & I went to The Provinces bar at the Hilton for dinner. We loved the atmosphere & decor. The restaurant area could use the lights dimmed a bit. The bar had great service; large menu. There are several big salads that you can get topped with grilled salmon, chicken, shrimp or ribeye. We got the Mediterranean salad, his with salmon & mine with chicken. Those were nicely grilled and moist. Excellent salads & plenty to eat. Neighboring customers got fried calamari and crab cakes, which also looked good. The calamari was a generous size. Plenty of parking, too. You can enter from Clayton Road. We really liked this place & want to keep it our secret hangout. read more

I stayed at the Hilton Frontenac during my 5 day stay in St.Louis and this was the restaurant attached to the hotel so I had plenty of visits here. On the menu was your standard bar food (potatoes skins, wings, burgers, pizza etc.) as well as pasta, steak and seafood options (prices were reasonable, appetizers ranged from $8-$12 and entrées were about $10-$25, prices are in USD). During my multiple stays here I tried the toasted ravioli, wings, potatoes skins and seafood fettuccine. The highlights were the seafood fettuccine and the ravioli. The seafood fettuccine was great (about $17 after tax), and had a very generous serving of scallops and shrimp, it even had some lobster meat included. The toasted ravioli I was told was a St.Louis specialty so I had to try it. It was a pretty good appetizer and was pretty tasty. A satisfying experience. read more

Hotel restaurants can be really bad. One of the reasons, I imagine, is the constant turnover of patrons, and the sense among staff that there are no regulars, with everyday a new landscape of mysteriously high expectations. My experience of Provinces was unusual, but pretty good. I entered the door off the back parking lot, and immediately was engaged in conversation by a guest, who seemed lonely for attention, and in five minutes told me more than I intended to hear, more than I needed to hear after a 45-minute drive w/ no caffeine. Once settled at my table for eight, I enjoyed the pot of hot coffee, and conversation with tablemates. Service was a little slow, but the fact that our party arrived over the course of 30 minutes probably confused the server. Once it arrived, the food was very good, like four-star good, more than I expected for an early morning hotel breakfast. My advice: tell the server up front exactly when you want to order, and how much time you have before you need to leave. Servers seemed friendly enough, and think would do their best to accommodate requests. read more

Typical hotel restaurant. Very poor quality. Only positive I found is that it was not horribly overpriced. They got the 2nd star for the proximity to my room. The food: Ordered fish tacos and that was a big mistake! Mahi Mahi was burnt and dried out. Tacos were covered in sauce and impossible to pick up without getting that all over your hands. Salsa, chips and quac came with it. The chips were stale! The quac and salsa were decent but no doubt from a jar. I'm not sure if they even have real cooks here. Come on man! Who knew? Not me. Now, I do! Thanks to Travel Zoo, we found a restaurant that we did not know exsisted, We redeemed a voucher I bought for $29 for a brunch for 2. Normal price $55. This brunch was a buffet. One buffet table had huge, cleaned (devined), and peeled shrimp. An array of FRESH fruit ( pineapple, honey dew, cantelope, red grapes, and strawberries), pastries such as muffins,danish and bagels. An array of salads. There were two tables of hot food. One with entree items such as Baked Chicken, Tilapia, Salmon, roasted potatoes, mixed vegetables, and assorted breads. The other offered breakfast items such as waffles, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, biscuits and gravy, Eggs Hollandaise,and fruit filled crepes. The fourth table had a carving station that included Prime Rib. A gentleman was standing by for you to" create your own omelet". Lastly, there was a bounty of desserts. Carrot cake (oh, so delish),cheesecake, several other types of cakes, and pastries. This also included Coffee, Mirmosa,Fresh Strawberry-Orange juice and Water. Each table is given there own beautiful stainless hottle of coffee...love , love, love this! No waiting for coffee. The restaurant is located inside the Hilton of Frontenac. It screams *old money* with its ornate, dated decor. I was mentally stripping the wallpaper as I ate. However, with that said, it was beautifully maintained. On to the staff, this is an eccletic group. Our server Niecey (sp?) was a very gregarious gal with a good sense of humor and a great personality. She joined in on our laughter and provided her own material to keep us grinning throughout the entire stay. Ice water, coffee, and juice was kept filled. I like presenting my coupons/vouchers upon ordering to prevent any problems with any restrictions. I noticed many tables with the Travel Zoo voucher and our service did not lack...no coupon attitude here;). This place just "served" me the worst breakfast I can recall in a long long time. Didn't want the buffet so I ordered a 3 egg omelet with fruit, and a side of link sausage. Omelet was fair, but the cook doesn't know how to cook an omelet. The 3 link sausages look to have been cooked on 3 different days. I'm seriously wondering if I got buffet leftovers. It was so obvious when the plate came out - any server who gave a shit would have left that mess in the kitchen. The fruit was genuinely slimy. Awful. I don't ask for much from a hotel, but lousy breakfast is a deal breaker for me. Too bad, I kind of liked the hotel. read more

My friends and I have been going to new brunch spots around STL monthly, and the Provinces has been my favorite of 2012. We made reservations on a Sunday AM and we had a groupon type of coupon (which we used without a problem or snooty look, for those of you that have gotten those before, you know what I mean!) and our waitress was excellent. We started off with their special homemade orange juice which was fantastic, then we headed over to the buffet. Let me just say that this spread put most buffets to shame! There was a mixture of breakfast and lunch choices, I think I made 3 trips up there! The food was fantastic, everything was fresh and rotated out of the buffet as things ran out, got old, etc.. and their omelet station was wonderful. I left completely stuffed and satisfied, so happy we decided to take a chance on a 'deal of the day' groupon! read more

As a frequent diner at this hotel with my elderly parents I have to say that the staff at this restaurant always gets it right. I want to especially compliment Masoud Who always seems to be there with a smile willing to take very good care of the diners. Whether you're having the T-bone steak, the Kansas City strip or perhaps the seafood linguine it is always prepared right and served with a smile. If you like appetizers there shrimp cocktail is one of the best in St. Louis with jumbo shrimp. Yes jumbo Shrimp. Many times when we are dining the restaurant is empty and we feel like were eating in a private dining room or at a country club. Masoud is a tremendous asset for this establishment. read more

Sadly, I dined here tonight 10/27 at 630 PM. The place came recommended, but I fear I may have come on a bad night as there was a wedding and a Halloween party in other areas of the hotel. Our party of 4 was seated right away, I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and fries. After a long wait our food arrived but I was given a salmon burger and fries. The waiter (Jeremy) left too quickly for me to ask about it, so I decided to eat it anyway. Very salty and overdone. About 10 minutes later someone else, I assume the manager arrived asking who had the chicken salad sandwich? I said I did, but already started on the incorrect order. I said he could box it up and I would take it to go and he told me "No, since it had not been on the table they could use it for someone else!" After that we never saw jeremy again for drink refills and had to contact another server to get our bill and to go boxes. The only reason this review got 2 stars was the other people in the party seemed satisfied and commended the onion soup. read more

As a Hilton Honors member I have travelled throughout the US and stayed and eaten at several Hiltons. This was my first time eating at the Hilton in Frontenac and it didn't disappoint. We went for Christmas Brunch. Upon being seated there was a large basket full of fresh baked goodies. The cheese Danish was divine. We then helped ourself to the buffet as the waitress was making our mimosas with fresh squeezed orange juice. The shrimp cocktail was jumbo sized shrimp. Their smoked salmon was delicious especially mixed on a fresh bread with their goat cheese. The prime rib was cooked perfectly with a nice subtle horseradish sauce. The buffet was very impressive with such items as biscuit and gravy, French toast, eggs Benedict, a very tasty ham, prime rib, spinach ravioli, grilled salmon, fresh potatoes cooked two different ways, breads, and a huge dessert table full of home made pies and cheesecakes. I was very happy and full when I left. I certainly will be making reservations again next year! read more

This restaurant is located inside the Hilton Frontenac. I went here for Sunday brunch. They have a fairly extensive selection: cold pastas, potato salad, cheese, smoked salmon, fruit, warm foods (salmon, tilapia, prime rib), breakfast foods (cheese blintzes, waffles, French toast, grits, eggs benedict), dessert (German chocolate, cherry pie, bread pudding), etc. Most of the dishes were not very well executed however; the waffles, cheese grits, and cherry cobbler were the notable exceptions (that's like a 12% success rate if you're mathematically inclined). Basically, if you prioritize quantity over quality, this place is for you. Although when I'm in the mood for that, I prefer IHOP myself. The ambience is dark, depressing, empty, and outmoded. You can order from the Bar Menu or the Dining Room Menu since on a Saturday night the dining room was closed at 6 P.M. That should have told me something. I have nothing against bar food when properly done. I ordered two appetizers, as none of the entrees was in the least bit exciting or appealing. The Calamari was a generous portion, but was so heavily battered you cannot taste the squid. The remoulade sauce was very good. The worst experience was Clam Chowder. I should have known better, but this was perhaps canned, it had the consistency of milk, my bowl had 2 or 3 clams and a couple of squares of potato. At least it was served hot. My wife had frozen ravioli's that came from a good supplier, but if it is on your menu, I think the kitchen should be able to make the item. We were a party of 11, and the grille was empty when we arrived. The server was good, until she got swamped. The bar tender, busboy and manager had to take orders. At least she refilled water glasses once during the 2+ hours we were there. 2 in our party were not served with the others at the table, they had to wait another 10 minutes.. We ate at the Bar and Grill mainly because the dining room was freezing cold!
