    Gooey Butter Cake
    Nick S.

My third visit in two weeks! It is that good! Simply the best, freshest food and a warm friendly staff. I had the Pastrami Ruben AGAIN and the fries! Don't tell my cardiologist! Then we tried the "Gooey Butter cake" so good! We split it three ways and it was delicious. Please patronize this place, I don't want to lose it! Farm to fork and a meat counter that won't quit!

I was expecting this place to be a restaurant, but i walked into a bakery/butcher/local market and restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised. The meat in the butcher case was so fresh and looked like perfect cuts of meat. They sell local harvested and fresh made treats. There is also plenty of seating, and even a small wine and spirits counter for your alcohol needs. Ordering food was simple and easy. Staff were so helpful with answering any questions i had. I picked up some lunch for my coworker and opted to pick me up a sweet treat from the bakery. I ordered a brownie. Man oh man, the brownie was so rich, chocolatey and oh so rich. It had crunchy chocolate morsels inside and a smooth rich chocolate icing. It was a little on the sweeter side, but not overly sweet that i couldn't enjoy it. My coworker order a steak salad and it looked so delicious. Im definitely going to come back to grab some food.

Very clean and bright business with a full of meat counter, deli counter and a delicious bakery section plus other sundry items available. They have happy hour specials and a full bar and the food is fresh and delicious. The burgers were absolutely fantastic, grilled perfectly and seasoned the best served on a toasted bun(yummy) fries are extra. The brownie was chocolaty and extra fudgie and they have a good cannoli. Definitely worth you checking out.

We've driven by for a couple months and finally decided to stop in for lunch. The inside has changed a little since it's years as Kohns, but it's mostly the same. Same coolers, same deli counter, same tables. The familiarity was nice. We placed our orders at the counter, reminiscent of the past. A pastrami sandwich for me and a cheeseburger for my friend. Because the sandwiches were a little pricy ($14 each) we both skipped sides. My pastrami was excellent. It's still Lennys famous recipe, which is all you really need to say about that. The burger was really just a burger (with lettuce, tomato, and pickle). You could tell from the texture that the quality of the meat was higher than you normally get, which my friend appreciated it, but he said it wasn't worth the price. The overall experience was decent but not exceptional.

This place drops the bar beneath the floor on drinks. $16 old fashioned and the glass isn't even half full. I've had old fashions all over Saint Louis and this is easily the cheapest pour I have seen at any restaurant. Ordered the charcuterie board and it looked like the staff ate 3/4 the board before it arrived. I will say it was good but not good enough to cover the teeny tiny portions. Don't get me started on the steaks, I come from small town McGregor, IA where meat markets are popular and reasonably priced. Steak here is obnoxiously over priced. 30-40% mark up form market, You could get a cheaper ribeye at Bristol's. But then they served the entrees and I have to be honest, they are fantastic. That's the only reason it's getting 3 stars. Best pork tenderloin I've had in Saint Louis. That is the only reason this place gets 3 stars. It would have 5 if the drinks were poured for what they cost and if the charcuterie board didn't look like it came off the kids menu.

We keep coming back for more - so this has become one of our favorites!!! if you are looking for a bakery, a butcher, a local market and a restaurant all in one you found your place! Every time we go in, we are happy we did. Amazing baked goods like their disappearing cake, grab some straight from the farm meat for a weekend barbecue and then lunch or dinner while you're there! You can pick out the steak you want and they'll prepare it right then for you while you enjoy cocktails at the bar. Their pork tenderloin sandwich is hands-down the best we've ever had.

Everything is SO GOOD! Today I had the "Gooey Butter Cake!" It is AMAZING!!! This is my third visit in two weeks. I'm going back for the fresh sauerkraut and the chicken!

I read up on Pierce Creek in a couple of different articles, about the cattle ranch and the food truck and such so we decided to try it on a Friday night before Christmas. It is back off old Olive at the prior location of a deli, off the beaten path a bit. Walking in we were greeted at the front desk area by a woman who asked if we'd been in before. We hadn't so she explained what to do. Go to the far cold case were there was a menu and a register tucked in the corner next to a small hot case with a few food items in metal pans. She also indicated there was a wine tasting, we weren't drinking that night, so we passed on that. There were customers ahead of us, so we reviewed the menu and some of the signs that had specials on them but generated questions, so we waited our turn. The woman behind the counter was friendly and helpful, answering all of our questions. I had wanted a non-meat option and there weren't any that appealed to me, so I ordered a salad and the soup of the day which was a tomato stew is what I think she called it. Husband ordered the burnt end and macaroni out of the hot case. There is a bar in the middle of the space with tables on the other side from the cold cases so we found a seat there. Some people were being waited on by the bartender and I think they were there for the happy hour. It was over when we got there so that would explain service differences, being waited on vs. ordering at the counter. Our food came out pretty quickly, my husband's burnt ends and macaroni was deemed ok. My salad was quite large so I split it in half to take the rest home. It was spring mix with onions, peppers, croutons, and tomatoes. The tomato soup/stew came with cornbread that was quite good. The soup itself I did not care for, it had a gelatinous texture and had carrots and potatoes? I'm not quite sure. All the staff was quite friendly and nice and I liked the local aspect of the products they offered for sale. The space layout was odd to me and felt empty. I will try a burger next time since they are cattle ranch owners. I just didn't want red meat that night.

Delicious made to order food. I got the Moobile and it was tasty, paired it with some mayo and ketchup from the condiment bar and it was even better. I got a sample of their upside down cupcake from a friendly employee and I am excited to pick some up the next time. Definitely will become a go to stop before seeing a movie. It was a charming environment!

Local grass fed and finished beef and pasture raised pork and poultry is amazing! The rancher himself works the restaurant while his helper is working the ranch in Lonedell MO. So many frozen local meats in the freezers and bakery options to bring home with you as well! They have breakfast too! Fun happy hour and atmosphere. We will be back!

Delicious food from high quality "farm to table" ingredients. Friendly staff in a walk-up counter type lunchroom. Lots of seating and quick service. There's also a bake shop, meat counter, and a bar for evening hours. Good food for our lunch on a busy weekday. We'll be back for sure.

What a fun surprise! If I could rate this place as a 6/5 I would. I'd been following Pierce Creek on social media for awhile, and knew I needed to try their beef soon, but didn't realize their retail space was so inviting and amazing. It's a deli, it's a bar, it's a meat market (but the good kind!) and a bottle shop all in one. Pierce Creek is an extension of a ranch near Lonedell, MO; the MOObile food truck (featuring smash burgers and tallow fries) is also theirs. The brick-and-mortar is in the former Kohn's Deli, and has a huge parking lot. It's an easy walk from the Creve Coeur AMC, should you want a bite and a pint before a show! We checked out the wall of spirits--all local, and most not found in grocery stores and large shops--then ordered food at the deli counter. We opted for the Local Cheese and Cured Meat Platter, and were pleasantly surprised when invited to pick any three Volpi meats and three cheeses from the case. The menu also includes their smash burgers and tallow fries, deli standards (including Kohn's Classic Reuben), and a range of substantial hot food--including pork tenderloin, whiskey-glazed salmon, hot vegetables, and more. They'll even grill a steak at "case price". We sat at the bar and ordered drinks from the seasonal cocktail menu, which features lots of local spirits and interesting flavors. Our food was soon ready, and that $15 charcuterie platter was more than worth it! It included generous portions of 3 meats and 3 cheeses, plus jam, olives, pickles, and "tallow-fried bagel chips". The chips were too greasy for me, but my partner enjoyed them. Everything was exceptional. The menu has so many tempting items on it, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming--I'm sure we'll be back soon!

I kept hearing about Pierce Creek and decided we needed to check it out! My husband and I were in the mood for a casual dinner on a Saturday night and ended up here. It's a store/butcher shop/carry out/eat in/bar! I think I covered everything. The menu is on the wall and food orders are placed at a counter. The gal who took our order was very friendly and answered the questions we had about the menu. We placed our order and then went and chose a table. The bar is over where the seating is and my husband went and got a beer. There were two older gentlemen playing music and singing. One of them came over and talked to us while they were on a break. It would have been fine, but we had our food and it was hot and we didn't want to chat and have our food cool off! Apparently they will be there every Saturday. We didn't enjoy their music so we'll be back on another night in the future. When we ordered our food, we were given a number to put on our table and someone would deliver our food when it was ready. Two people were running food - often together - to bring out all the food at once for a table. They literally walked around and didn't appear to be looking at the numbers on the table. They tried to drop off food at the wrong table numerous times. It's not a big place and there weren't that many tables taken. A number of people seemed to have ordered chili (including me) and every single one of us had to ask for a spoon. I asked for some butter for my cornbread and they were confused by that. I can't be the only one that likes a little butter with cornbread! They said they would go check into it. I didn't get butter and they never came back. But the food was good! And the staff (other than the people running food) were great! There are more menu items we want to try so we'll definitely be back!

It was a place I had always wanted to try, and the meal was a gift. I ordered takeout from their lot and arrived for pickup within 1 minute of their notifying me it was ready. The wait staff was quite pleasant and highly professional. I didn't want the food to cool, so I ate it right away while sitting in my car on their lot, facing the trees visible from the lot's northeast corner. The shadowy sunset-lit view was pleasant to behold. I had passed on having a drink and ordered their incredible Carrot Cake for dessert. It was a pleasantly dense chunk of cake, chocked with nuts, icing, and served with a small serving of custard sauce. Yummy, to say the least, so nothing to complain about there. Their Maine Lobster Bisque was a scrumptious starter that offered just enough pieces of sweet lobster. Their generous serving of biscuits was also tasty, but a bit too crunchy for me (most people probably love them). I thoroughly enjoyed their Whipped Potatoes and dove into the last dish with excitement. It was one that I often enjoy whenever I have ordered them at different places in town and around the country - their crab cakes. I had some crab cakes just a few months earlier at another establishment, where they were just mediocre. On every count except one, Bristol's had them beat. Given their cost, Bristol's Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes initially looked skimpy, but I got my money's worth of seafood because they were full of meat and were delicately seasoned. I dipped them in the remoulade, and they were quite good; yet, I suspect that the meat in one or both of the crab cakes was a bit undercooked. I felt a cautionary averse sensation when I took my first and second bites, but I explained it away. I couldn't accept my body telling me not to eat those great-smelling, great-looking crab cakes. I ate them while telling myself, 'No way would this reputable seafood eatery sell bad clams.' I finished the meal and felt fine through the night. I never had the full constellation of symptoms that usually go with food poisoning. Still, the next morning, I woke to a severe case of facial hives that spread to the lymph nodes in my neck with an additional lump on the outside of my right shoulder and on my left rear trapezius. My face felt like an over-inflated balloon. My vision was compromised by the squint deeply carved around my eyes by the tight, hard lumps that expanded my face and disfigured me. I had no fever, but I didn't feel like writing a review or taking pictures of myself until midnight. It was that second night when my symptoms improved, but they were still quite pronounced. I was grateful I had been protected by angels when I didn't have to go to the hospital with worse symptoms. Also, the medical staff would mistakenly have classified this incident as an allergic reaction, but I know I will eat crab cakes for the rest of my life. It wasn't the crab cake concept; it was those crab cakes. But what could have been the cause? One can have nasty symptoms in the first 30-60 minutes or within 1-48 hours with different kinds of shellfish poisoning, but that was not my experience. Google best explained the onset of my symptoms within 12-24 hours: "Typical for common bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus or Vibrio found in raw/undercooked crab." So, if you order this dish, I'm sure your meal will go well for most, but if your body gives you that slight, nauseating signal to return that dish to the cook, I hope you listen better than I did. Finally, I do not care to put my face on the internet to prove a point, but if the proprietors would like to see my 24-hour facial pictures, I will gladly share them to validate my "woe-is-me" tale.

Our celebratory dinner at Il Bel Lago was fabulous. First the ambiance is upscale and inviting,…read morebut not pretentious. Shortly after I sat down, we started with cocktails, I went with an old standard, but my husband and son tried signature drinks, and I highly recommend the Milk dud martini (it's almost dessert). We had Mark as our server (who was extremely attentive and helpful in making selections), he suggested a sample appetizer of tortellini and lobster ravioli (just a sample of each) and it was the perfect start to dinner. We then moved on to salads, some had the Italian salad and some had the Caesar - both were good, but the Caesar was served in a tortilla shell.... would have been better in a parmesan crisp cup. I selected the Sea Bass special - it was perfectly cooked and was in a perfect sauce. My husband and son had the Reagan pasta and my daughter in law had the Busch chicken all cooked to perfection. My other 2 sons had steak, one had the filet and one had the strip - both very generous cuts of beef and cooked perfectly....all in all a good night. Only curious item was when I asked for one of the small rooms I was told they had reservations for them....but we did not see it

We arrived on a quiet, cold night and were seated right away. There were plenty of tempting menu options and specials, which made choosing difficult. We started with Nonna's meatball and each ordered a pasta dish. My wife chose the pistachio pasta, and I ordered the pappardelle. The meatball was excellent, and the sauce had an almost barbecue-like tang. My pappardelle was incredibly satisfying and easy to finish despite the generous portion. That said, my wife's dish was the clear winner. The chili brought a piquancy that read as a pleasant smoky note, perfectly complementing the tomato base. The tiramisu was unique and truly one of a kind. We will definitely be back.
