Had the Maple Perhsing ($2.85) and it was delicious. The maple covering had a slight creaminess to it not just a harder sugar shell and the donut was still soft while not overly greasy. Got there around 8:45a on a Sunday and they were pretty limited in selection as looked to be selling out, I got the last Maple Pershing. read more

Amazing donuts!! Their dough is excellent, they have some late evening hours and they have chocolate milk. Their muffins are my fave and buttermilk old fashioned is hubs fave. First time visiting this classic old-school donut shop bakery in NE Portland. The service by the owner was quick and attentive. On this particular Sunday afternoon, the selections were very limited, but I was fortunate enough to get my hands on some Raised Sugar Donuts, Maple Old Fashion Donuts, and Maple Bars...Needless to say, these heavenly delights did not make it back home, on the drive back to South Salem. In a city full of great donuts, Annie's is an unpretentious take on a classic style of donut. Located on Sandy Blvd and 72nd, it's a bit further out than most of the trendy stops which makes it more of a neighborhood spot than tourist destination. The donuts are pretty regular in size, some skew towards large. They've got most of the classic flavors - your plain, sugar, cake, sprinkle, glazed, filled, fritter, etc - with nothing too crazy (no risqué names or medical flavors here). I'm not a huge donut eater but also not hard to please when it comes to donuts. I thought these were pretty tasty. With a small parking lot, friendly service, reasonable prices, and cool yellow booth seating, that makes this place a four-stars overall for me. read more

Spoke with an employee to try to send a thank you box of donuts to a client. I am on the east coast so I asked if I could have someone pick them up, he said no they don't work with doordash or anyone like that. I asked could you recommend another donut shop, he said he is not in touch with them. I then asked, could I have someone come there to pick them up. He said not really sure about that. Decent "basic" donuts (no Voodoo-esque nonsense here!) in a shop with weird hours: Annie's closes for a few hours in the early afternoon during the weekdays, reopening after 6pm until 10pm. On the weekends, get in in the morning, or you're out of luck! All the standards are here: maple bars, glazed, custard-filled, jelly-filled - you know, the basics! Although, there are a few fun surprises here and there, when they're not sold out, like the Old Fashioned. And they're inexpensive, too! You can get a dozen donuts here for less than you can purchase a half dozen at any of the "weird" donut places. However, it's recommended to get them fresh (in the morning, usually), as they don't have that great of a shelf life. Grabbing a few before they close is a bit of a gamble, especially if you're not eating them immediately. Still, Annie's Donuts feels like survivor from the days of "Old" Portland, and I mean that in the best way possible. I love supporting these locally-owned gems, and with donuts this good, for this cheap, I don't know how they turn a profit! I guess I'd better keep on supporting them, to make sure they stick around for years to come! read more

Old school all the way! Annie's is the kind of doughnut shop I grew up with before maple bacon, blueberry basil, lavender glazed and fruit-loop covered doughnuts became the Portland norm. At Annie's, you walk in and the doughnut counter greets you, filled with old fashioned cake doughnuts, buttermilk bars, bismarks, soft glazed, maple bars, chocolate dipped, and sprinkles. The fanciest they get is an apple fritter. The coffee is just as simple; do you want cream and sugar? This is not the triple shot, soy, no foam latte place. That is on every other corner, but not NE Sandy and 72nd! Inside there are several booths in a very simple decor, not updated to the all white, mid century mid succulent motif. It's old school, through and through. Service is the same. Friendly, efficient, on to the next. I stopped in on my way to a swim and needed some energy. Annie greeted me with a cheerful smile and conversation as if I was a regular who stopped by daily. This is what makes Annies's Doughnuts both nostalgic and charming. And the doughnuts are good. These donuts are delicious!! They're literally my ideal donut - super fluffy and a tad chewy at the end. I'm normally not a huge fan of cake donuts but even the cake donut I tried blew me away - it was really moist! I ordered a Strawberry Frosted with Sprinkles Cake Donut, Apple Bear Claw, and Glazed Twist. Great pricing - the three donuts were only $4.10. The Apple Bear Claw was my least favorite because it wasn't as fragrant as I expected. However, it was still really good. read more

All my friends and family in Portland rave about this place. Owned and run by the cutest couple, this place has light, airy donuts at bargain prices! We bought 2 maple bars, a cinnamon twist, raspberry claw and a chocolate devils food cake donut for $6.50! Friendly service, but the quality just isn't there. Maybe they used to be more from-scratch or maybe there's just nostalgia holding them up. I was disappointed to find artificial-tasting gel fillings, weak chocolatey-ish glaze, and buttery-flavored cake. The yeast donut itself, without the filling, is pretty good, though. Maybe if I'm craving plain glazed donuts I'd drop by again for that. I called in an order of 18 dozen donuts just before Annie's closed for the holiday weekend. I needed them Tuesday morning (the day they were opening back up) at 7am. The people at Annie's were so nice and accommodated everything I asked for. The donuts were fresh and warm and they tasted AMAZING! So soft and pillow-y. The variety was outstanding as well. Unfortunately, we were unable to dine in and get the full experience due to Covid. We enjoyed our doughnuts in our car in the large parking lot instead. Forget the blue stars and the pink boxes. Annie's Donuts are the real thing -- good, wholesome, honest donuts of nearly every kind with no unnecessary frills. Our favorites are the chocolate-covered, custard-filled bismarks along with Annie's fritters (both apple and raspberry) and their glazed cruelers and old fashioneds. We also like their bear claws (again, both apple and raspberry), maple bars, and buttermilks. Their donuts are reasonably priced and usually there isn't a line or a long wait. These are classic donuts, the kind I'd get as a kid at the corner bakery on Chicago's North Side. Let's hope Annie's survives Portland's changing landscape. read more
