Raspberry Rosemary Old-Fashioned and The O.G. (Orxata Glaze)

The raspberry rosemary old fashioned was the best donut I've had in my life, no exaggeration. These donuts are premium and are worth the adventure to try. Staff were very attentive.

Donuts for adults! Fun flavors, great taste, and good quality. We got four different donuts and loved them all. Don't remember what they were. One tasted like a PBJ, which was yummy; a chocolate iced with some sprinkles, one that was like an apple fritter--and don't remember the other one. Enjoyed them with sticky fingers...definitely should have taken pictures beforehand. Would definitely return.

Servers were nice and friendly. The donuts were okay. Creme brulee had a nice crunch when you bite not too sweet. The maple glazed is our fave. There is free parking at the back.

Excellent service! Donuts were delicious and very flavorful, especially the apple fritter. I could taste the cider coming through the dough.

Came on a late Monday morning and the system was down, so we paid cash. I enjoyed my seasonal blueberry bourbon basil donut, but it wasn't anything special tbh. It was really messy inside, with crumbs everywhere on tables and on the floor. It was very visibly dirty. The staff did have the time and means to clean, but they were preoccupied talking. Perhaps it was a one off day? But the status of the store kind of dampened the experience.

I'm now fat because of these donuts. I don't even like donuts!!! So delicious, I couldn't stop

Always a fan of Blue Star donuts! Service was quick and we enjoyed their September seasonal donuts!

Pina Colada + Chocolate Banana + Dulce de Leche donuts
    Chris N.

Innovative donut flavors and really friendly staff! Visited in the late afternoon and the person working kindly offered my friend and I a free donut, which was pina colada flavored. My favorite donut of the three was the chocolate banana donut. The other two were flavors that don't exactly align with my palette, however, I do think the flavors were on point and exactly as marketed/named! I would definitely go back next time in Portland and in need of a donut fix. There was also plenty of street parking available, which made visiting this donut shop straightforward and easy.

Honestly, best donuts I've ever had! I don't usually eat a ton of sweet desserts or pastries, as my palate tends to gravitate more towards savory. However, I will continue to come to Blue Star when I'm in the Portland area. I've been meaning to try them for years and never got around to it until this week. The donuts themselves are soft and fluffy, and almost just melt in your mouth. My favorite was the chocolate one filled with custard/cream. The chocolate itself tasted like dark chocolate, and was so rich and creamy. Definitely plan to visit again. My friend and I chose 4 and cut them in half to share and it worked well. The staff was efficient and answered all of our questions. Sometimes I feel like based on response, some establishments and employees get almost annoyed when customers ask questions or take a few minutes to decide, and the staff working made us feel welcomed and kept reminding us we could take our time choosing. Great service. For the apple crumble one, we didn't get a ton of apple flavor from it. That one was ok, as it didn't give off a strong apple flavor that we initially thought would be there, but it was still delicious.

Ruby helped my friend and I and was so friendly and efficient! We'll be coming back just for her from now on :D

iced Matcha latte oat milk + sugarfree vanilla
    Emily L.

I stopped by here after my flight as the 1st coffee shop I came across ran out of Matcha. I ordered a regular sized iced matcha latte + oat milk + sugarfree vanilla syrup. It was decent! The only thing is that it kind of tasted like egg yolk? Maybe it was the combination, but have never had it taste like that before. Took a star off because the total was $9 after additions ($1.50 for a pump of flavored syrup is ridiculous)

    Chris W.

I don't really eat donuts too much these days, however, in my return trip to Portland after almost 9 years I had to make a trip to Blue Star...in fact, I walked 30 min in the rain (willingly) to savor these little bad boys! So many great options to choose from! Service was quick and easy though I know it can get busy at times and they do sell out of some of their options if you wait to late to go in. Pretty chill inside and there is table and counter seating by the windows.

Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street? Donut
    Austin B.

tl;dr the delicious donuts at this Portland-based bakery are worth the pretty penny -- surprisingly, the funnel cake-esque old-fashioned variety outdoes even the signature brioche Los Angeles is the city of a thousand donut shops, many of which are decades-old mom-and-pop stores. As such, it almost feels sacrilegious to hail a non-native, new-wave donutery like Portland's Blue Star Donuts. This brioche specialist touts its locally sourced ingredients and 18-hour dough recipe. Blue Star's California expansion has, unfortunately, halted, but the brand remains one of the premier Portland bakeries. The Jefferson flagship storefront sports a rainbow of blue stripes. Enter into the bakery room, where each donut variety is gingerly positioned upon its own porcelain platter. A white-on-blue donut-themed mural pops against the otherwise minimalist decor, and trendy electronic music echoes around the walls. Unlike the other typically grab-and-go locations, the flagship invites customers to stick around. The adjacent dining room to the right is outfitted with an enormous communal table, and a bar counter winds along the ceiling-high windows across the entire length of the duplex. Across multiple visits to multiple Blue Star locations (including the new PDX airport outpost and California's now-shuttered Venice location), the highlights have been the old-fashioned donuts. These buttery rings fall somewhere on the spectrum between cake donut and funnel cake, and the rich base alone would be worth a visit -- the toppings are (quite literally) icing on the cake. The slightly sweet brioche donuts are good but not overtly premium or noteworthy. My favorite donut has the special-edition Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street? -- a cohesive and complex sesame buttermilk old-fashioned decked with a yuzu glaze. But the fall-themed Pumpkin Pecan Old Fashioned, which reminded me of sophisticated maple donut, was no slouch, either. Other, non-old-fashioned hits were the creamy, dynamically flavorful Lemon & Lime Curd powdered sugar brioche and the olive oil cake-esque Orange Olive Oil cake donut. I was least impressed by The O.G. (Orxata Glaze) and the signature Blueberry Bourbon Basil: the former tasted little different than a standard glazed ring, while the latter recalled a premium blueberry jam but forgot the bourbon and basil. During each visit, I have been surprised to find multiple flavors out of stock. Otherwise, service has always been friendly, efficient, and generous (at end of day, I was even offered donuts on the house). The donuts sell for an eyebrow-raising price of $4-6. This would reasonably feel like highway robbery for the varieties, but I could see myself paying double for the show-stopping old-fashioneds.

My first visit was on my birthday, so I got a free dozen doughnuts - such an amazing deal! The doughnuts are the perfect bite size, making it easy to sample a variety of flavors. They rotate flavors often, but Raw Honey & Sea Salt and Cinnamon Sugar are always available. The chai flavors are also excellent, especially the King & I, inspired by Thai pandan tea. Walking in less than an hour before closing, we were surprised to see most of the items still in stock! We ended up picking four things to try: Vanilla Bean Kouign Amann ($7) - This pasty has a sweet yet salty exterior that's complementary in flavor rather than clashing. It's accentuated with a crunchy glazed and caramelized sugar layer that's on the sweeter side. The interior is interesting. There's a cavernous gap right in the center that's filled with a sickly sweet melted sugar syrup. It's unpleasantly sweet and very cloying. The puffed and filled area is large enough that it compresses the other layers so the kouign amann is dense. I've never had a kouign amann quite this sweet before. (3/5) Meyer Lemon Olive Oil Cake with Thyme ($5.50) - This cake is so moist and rich, thick and dense, fatty and rich, that it feels like I"m eating a slab of butter. I'm sure it has just as many calories too! It's quite sweet, although not nearly to the level of the kouign amann. Overall, it's just a really rich and decadent cake. (4/5) Blueberry + Vanilla Cream Brioche Donut w/ Earl Grey ($6) - The top of the pastry is dressed with a cream that has an unmistakably strong bergomot earl grey taste. I wish there was way more cream - there's essentially only a dab on top! The rest of the donut is filled with a custardy light blueberry and vanilla jam. It's not too sweet and has an excellent high quality blueberry fragrance, creating an exceptionally strong blueberry taste. The jam is not too thick and is somewhat syrupy from sugar. The donut itself is really soft and extremely airy. It's the fluffiest donut I've eaten in a long time. (5/5) Raspberry Rose Cruffin ($8.50) - This pastry has some fun dehydrated raspberries sprinkled right on top of a light and fluffy cream that's not too sweet. The cruffin base is buttery in taste and great lamination even when filled with the custard and rose/raspberry cream. This is a heavy cruffin that's very filling. (5/5) Twisted Croissant certainly does some some really delectable treats. It's one of my favorite bakeries in Portland!

My mouth is watering describing this now, a true sign I'll be returning to experience this delicacy time and time again. There are three locations of Twisted Croissant in Portland, and this is the only one I've visited. The interior has a classic Parisian bakery vibe, clad in white subway tile from floor to ceiling. The bakery case in front of the store is beautifully stocked with fresh pastries, perfect for enjoying with a cup of coffee or tea. However, be advised, there are only two tables in the back of their public space, so it's not particularly inviting space to sit and enjoy your breakfast. Given the location, I assume there is outdoor seating in the summer months, but don't quote me on that. Regardless, run here if you haven't been. These baked goods are worth the visit!

The server told me that they are most famous for the raspberry cheesecake (or raspberry cream?, I forgot the name). It was basically a jelly-filled donut with something like frosting on top. It was heavenly. It goes really well with black coffee. I tried the sesame donut hole for fun (because their name is Sesame Donuts), but it was mid. The Sid's Special was like a blueberry-filled donut, which didn't taste as good as the raspberry one. The Portland Cream was a cream-filled donut, similar to the Boston Cream. Credit card/Apple Pay accepted. I didn't see any available bathrooms.

As a gluten-free girlie when you're craving donuts, you have to be ready to go on an adventure and…read moreto go on an adventure the prize has to be worth it. Let me tell you these are so worth it! I will start by saying these are not like a standard fluffy donut. Mochi style donuts are more like a thick old fashioned donut in the best way possible. Be ready to be full after one, or two. I love the variety of types of toppings and got half a dozen to try a few. Also loved seeing they fill the donuts to order, so less chance of a soggy center. Note: I had no soggy centers and it took 3 days to eat them all. Of them all, the horchata pudding was my favorite. The warm and creamy flavor worked so well with it. I will say the frosting and fillings were great alone but I wasn't huge on the brighter flavors (key lime, watermelonade) with the donut. Either way, I took care of my donut craving, got to see a different area of the city, and had a sugar rush for a few days.

Strawberry yuzu funfetti - anything with rainbow sprinkles is kiddo approved but this one is adult approved too! A little on the sweet side with the sprinkles in the donut too, but super fun! 5 stars Chocolate sunbutter - nice alternative to nut butters and mild chocolate flavor. Good chocolate donut all around. 5 stars Pool Boi - loved the creativity with the little gummy bear in the sour gummy ring and the blue raspberry flavor was on point! 5 stars. Passionfruit curd - fantastic tart curd with a classic mochi donut. Yum. 5 stars. Key lime pie - perfect tartness that worked well with the sweetness of everything. 5 stars. Cocoa pebbles - excellent chocolate donut! Could had used more cocoa pebbles. They need to have more chocolate specials! 5 stars. Horchata pudding - lovely cinnamony donut with a tasty horchata pudding. 5 stars. Ube - I wish the Ube flavor was in the donut too. Perhaps the Ube flavor could had been stronger in the glaze? 4.5 stars. Orange cardamom - subtle cardamom flavor but overall tasty donut. Not especially noteworthy flavor. 4.5 stars. Black sesame and jam - I usually love black sesame, but the combination with the jam was not my favorite. It's probably personal preference, but next time I'm going to ask for it without it. 4.5 stars. Strawberries and cream - compared to the strawberry yuzu, this one was a little underwhelming. Adding fresh strawberries with the cream would had been the way to go. 4.5 stars. Guava cheesecake - the Guava flavor was overpowered by the graham cracker flavor on this one. I think a straight Guava one would be amazing. 4 stars. Compared to pon de ring and more traditional mochi donuts, these had more donut characteristics and were much sweeter and less chewy. So glad we discovered this place!
