Very good southern food including fried chicken here at Dare U To Care Grill/Golden Bird. It's a combination of a southern food restaurant and a Golden Bird fried chicken franchise, located on Western Ave and 149th in Gardena. The oxtails are my favorite. They have delicious smothered pork chops, meatloaf and turkey. Their gravy is tasty! I also had the turkey chops, which I should have ordered with that gravy. The fried chicken is very good, and you can occasionally get it on special -- I've been there twice on Sundays when they've had a 2-piece special with fries for $2.99. I've also seen a bbq special on weekends. The turkey dinner I had was also a Sunday special, it included a big wing on top of a bed of stuffing, two sides and a bit of cranberry sauce. The sides are fine, I liked the mac n cheese, string beans & potatoes, potato salad, red beans, black eyed peas, corn and collard greens. During these Covid times the small dining room is closed, everything is to go. Social distancing and masks are enforced, and there's hand sanitizer if you need it. You can wait outside for your order, it usually around 15-20 minutes, but a lot of folks call their orders in advance for pick-up. Parking is easy, non-metered street parking readily available plus there's a small parking lot behind the business. Dare U To Care Grill is owned by the same folks who operate the Dare U To Care substance abuse facilities around LA. The restaurant helps support the work of the care centers. You can eat well and support a good cause while you're at it. Ok

I called Dare U To Care for a catering order, I paid upfront and ordered chicken, greens, and Mac and cheese. When I came in to pick up my food, it was ready right on time - and fresh out of the oven! The staff was extremely accommodating and helped us carry the food to the car. Now for the food. AMAZING! The mac was the first to go...and the greens were seasoned perfectly. The chicken was delicious as well, juicy with crispy skin. Definitely will hit them up for future catering orders.

It's been a minute since I've have had a seafood boil and man was this place was worth the wait!!…read more I came with a friend on a Wednesday night and thankfully it wasn't too busy. As for food we got the Combo 2 and our choices were shrimp, clams and snow crab. We went with the Torpedo sauce for our boil cause it was a mixture of all their other sauces (garlic butter, classic cajun and lemon pepper) and we got it at a medium spice level. And oh boy oh boy did it set our mouths on fire but in the best way possible!! The sauce was everything we wanted it to be, spicy, savory, garlicky, tangy and just pure indulgence. To calm the heat though we also got cajun fries, rice, Thai tea and Jasmine milk tea. Sharing a meal with a friend is always nice but sharing a meal with a friend here is great. I believe food is the ultimate uniter and I'm happy we chose to go here!! My one and only con is just the location because it was a bit sketchy especially at night but the food and service was so good I think it's still worth it to go.

The menu lists market price for their seafood, but nowhere to physically see the prices so you must ask the waiter. I ordered a pound of head on shrimp in spicy torpedo sauce (their house combination sauce) and some mild cajun fries for sharing. The shrimp was well cooked and a nice aroma of garlic lingered from the chunks of garlic visible in the sauce. The sauce had decently chunky bits which adhered to the shrimp well enough and was delicious with a nice kick of heat. The shrimp were less than fresh but perfectly palatable. The Cajun fries were lightly seasoned, with a crisp (but not too crunchy) coating, similar to the exterior of an onion ring. They were great for snacking and whetted my appetite well. All in the food was good, but I just wish the shrimp was fresher to lend some subtle sweetness and fresh feeling to the dish.

It's one of those "low-key hidden but worth finding" spots. Don't let the location fool you! I went on a Tuesday during the week when it wasn't busy at all -- nice and chill vibes. But babyyy once 6 PM hit? Dinner time activated. The crowd definitely started rolling in and you could feel the energy shift. So just know traffic picks up later in the evening if you're planning a visit. Now let's get into what matters: The staff? Super attentive and kind. I love when servers check on you just enough without hovering. And the food came out HOT. Not warm. Not "it's been sitting." I'm talking steaming, fresh, straight-to-the-table heat -- which is exactly how a crab boil should hit. Portions were generous because I was overly stuffed and still had plenty left over for the next day (which honestly might be the best part). Nothing like reheating a seafood boil and running it back. Thank you for hosting me and my guest -- we had such a good experience. I'll definitely be back for my next crab boil fix lol

We waited for 30 minutes to be seated even though plenty of tables were open, waited another 30 minutes to place an order, waited another 40 minutes until the food came out. At least the decor was "cute" pretty standard for a seafood boil and had TVs. We got 3 pounds of shrimp with the flavor mix and the spiciest level of heat in addition to some Cajun fries. The seafood was so bland and the fries were so dry with little to no seasoning.

I couldn't let Ragin' Cajun Cafe close its current chapter without one last visit for that authentic Louisiana soul food. This place has been such a staple in Redondo Beach and South Bay and while I'm sad to see the "Cafe" era end, I'm also excited for what's next - it's sure to be a hit! What I had to say goodbye one last time!? * Seafood Bisque: This was incredibly rich and velvety, as always. You can tell they don't ever skimp on the seafood--it was packed with flavor and the perfect way to start the meal. * Hush Puppies: Golden, crispy, and exactly what a hush puppy should be. They have that slightly sweet cornmeal interior that pairs so well with their savory dishes. Always worth adding! * Combo Jambalaya Plate: A massive portion and pure comfort. The spices were spot on--bold but not overwhelming--and every bite was loaded with meat and perfectly cooked rice. My goto comfort... The Next Chapter: For anyone worried about losing these flavors: don't panic! While Ragin' Cajun is closing, the owner and chef are reopening very soon in the same spot as Redondo Beach Grill. It's the same team and the same talent, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they evolve the menu while keeping that local heart alive. Their email to followers says they will keep a few menu items as well (doesn't say which ones!?) Thank you to the entire crew for years of amazing meals and hospitality. These flavors WILL be missed!! See you at the new, well, same spot (new name and decor!?)
