I recently visited AnQi and dined outside even though their indoor seating is open now. I got there right at 5:00 p.m. on a Sunday when they opened for dinner. There was a small crowd, maybe 6 other or so other groups that arrived at the same time, so it took a few minutes for the hostess to take everyone's temperatures and get them seated. It was a little windy and although they had fans outside, they did not have any heaters. Be sure to bring a jacket or blanket if you are going to dine outdoors! When we were seated, our plates were UV sanitized with a UV wand. The cloth napkins were removed from individually wrapped plastic and everything seemed to be very sanitary. The tables were spaced a reasonable amount and there were cute little green grass walls that separated us from tables. They seemed well staffed and the servers were always available if we needed anything. Now, my group and I are really into food. Like really really into food. So we ordered basically the entire menu minus some items. I tried to take pictures of everything but our table was always so full of plates and food, so it was hard because a girl also has to eat. Considering how much food we ordered, the service was rather quick. We placed our order in 3 waves and they timed it very well. We brought 2 bottles of vintage wine and it paired so well with our meal. I have zero complaints regarding the food. My favorite items were the garlic noodles and the chicken wings. I know, you would think chicken wings are pretty standard everywhere, but these were very well seasoned and pretty much the best chicken wings I ever had. If you are coming in a large group (more than 2-3 people), I should note that the servings are rather small. The chicken wings, ahi tuna tacos, dumplings, and some other items we ordered only had 3 pieces. The larger entrees are the noodles and crab, which in comparison to the appetizers are much larger but would be a standard entree size at another restaurant. So, the bill adds up rather quickly if you are eating to get stuffed (like we did). Definitely not a place I would eat at very often, but it is a nice spot for a special occasion. Only complaint was a few items were missing and we didn't realize we didn't receive them until the very end when we were too full to eat more. Also, with us weak Californians, I think outdoor heaters are a must. They're located just outside of Bloomingdales at South Coast Plaza, so there is plenty of self parking or you can opt for valet parking. read more

WOW!! This restaurant is AMAZING! The ambiance and design is modern and really neat with the colored lights. But really, the food is what makes this place shine. I was extremely surprised by how incredible the food was! I ordered the Lobster Dumplings, Garlic Noodles, Peking Roasted Chicken and the Keto Garlic Ponzu Filet. While all of these were fantastic, the stand outs were by far the Lobster Dumplings and the Garlic Noodles. I like both so much I ordered a second serving of them! I will DEFINITELY be returning in the future! On a side note, I'd have to strongly disagree with the bad reviews of this place. I did not get bad service, the food was amazing and I did not have to wait as I made a reservation. Maybe I missed the "bad" era cause they made changes? Not sure but it's sure an amazing restaurant now. In fact, I think they're selling themselves short by being associated with South Coast Plaza. Granted, this is a higher end mall but this restaurant is high end enough to sit on it's own in Beverly Hills or something. Thats how good it is! Recently had dinner there. Service was pretty good. Water cups kept at approximately 60% full. Decent return rate from water and associates to check on our satisfaction. Food came out rather quickly although the place wasn't very full. Quality of food was okay. Rib eye cooked well with low percentage of inter muscular fat. Small hot plates were not substantial and taste okay. Fried rice dishes were lacking. Vegetables were memorable for all the right reasons. Came here for lunch with my mom and had a great experience. Da Lat Rose (5/5): my mom loved the presentation of the drink with the nitrogen bubble! Tombo Tuna Tacos (4/5): pretty good appetizer, comes with 3 tacos. An's Famous Roasted Crab (4/5): tasty and nice that it's already out of the shell for you, however pricey at $95 per crab. An's Famous Garlic Noodles (2/5): for being known as one of their signature dishes this was very mediocre. Vietnamese Banana Fritters (5/5): loved this dessert, however they need to serve this in a bowl and not a flat dish as it was difficult to eat. Overall we had a nice lunch, loved the interior with all the cherry blossom trees. Definitely on the pricier side as everything was about $200 with tax and tip. A chick place to impress your non-Asian friends. This place is over hyped and over priced. If you want ot have real garlic noodle or garlic rice, Newport Seafood has much better noodle and rice at half of the price and they come from a no so secret kitchen. However if you want to host a party to impress, this is definitely the place to go. With the high price tag associated with each dish and the illuminating colorful lights, your guests would be wowed by your level of opulences. In fact, when we dined there, we saw many party goers coming in and out of the restaurant clothes in the last fashion. They were surely high society socialites. On the food side, we were not that impressed. The hostess told us the restaurant is a Vietnamese impression cuisine, but the menu had nothing Vietnamese on it. With the recommendation of the waiter, we got the famous garlic noodle from their secret kitchen( who knows where that is), calamari with green peppercorn sauce, butter fish and cauliflower with Brussel sprouts. Although the noodle is famous, I didn't feel it was that good as the whole dish was too sweet. Out of all the dishes, we liked the butter fish the best. Its taste was very close to the famous Nobu miso cod fish. The fish meat was very tender and flaky. The flavor was right on the note with seasoning. Unlike its food, the service is impeccable. Our waiter was very very friendly and attentive to our needs. He is impressively knowledgeable of the ingredients in the food. That's definitely a five star service. Would I return? Probably not. After the many praises of my yelp friends, I had to check out ANQI for myself. ANQI is located inside of Bloomingdales at South Coast Plaza. The chef owner here is Vietnamese and their menu focuses on elevated Asian fusion cuisine. The ambiance is intimate and high end, however I can't say the seats were all too comfortable. Service was professional, but there were moments were I had to really flag down my waitress. To start off, I had my eyes on their Classic Signature Cocktails section debating between the Heavenly Pear ($16) or the Oh-Mai-Lychee Martini ($15). I enjoy both pear and lychee flavors and I usually get lychee drinks, but I rarely see pear on the menu so I decided to go with the pear. The drink was pretty simple, and topped with thin slice of Asian Pear, my fav. My favorite part of the drink was eating the fruit that was resting in my alcohol, but I didn't enjoy the drink to its' price margin. For my entree, I had the Crispy Pork Belly with Ong Choy ($32). The crispy pork belly laid on a bed of ong choy, leeks, rice cakes and red chili. The crispy belly was delicious with the perfect amount of meat, fat and crispy skin. The rice cakes were surprisingly delicious and went really well with all the components of the dish. I would have liked some freshness like a fresh salad with the pork belly, but overall pretty delicious. If you know me, I always want dessert. I had to flag down my waitress for a dessert menu. When I got the dessert menu, I also saw a tea selection on the dessert menu. I wish I saw this sooner as I would have really enjoyed hot tea with my meal. At this point it was too late to order tea. They should really offer the tea selection sooner. Anyways, back to the dessert, I had a delicious Green Tea Cheesecake & Taro Mousse($14). There was a whimsical presentation and the ice cream pairings and fruits on the plate were all extremely tasty. I would come back here just for this dessert!! I liked ANQI, but I can't say I love it. I just feel like it was pricey relative to not too high satisfaction. Or bluntly speaking, I can be equally satisfied elsewhere for less $$. I wonder why the host was basically running to the table while I was slowly limping behind. Why did she leave me? Not a big deal truly, just odd. What was depressing was the food and drinks. Our 1st round of drinks were excellent (Enter the Dragon and Forbidden Fruit). Our second round was a take on an old fashioned (the Ace of Spades) - but nothing about the drink was cohesive so we had to send it back. For food, we ordered quite a bit due to excitement. Portions were small for the price mind you. Truffle Sashimi (A+), Salt & Pepper Calamari (Solid B), Lobster dumplings (C+, dumplings bland, but sauce was great!), Pork Bao Bun (B+, an easy crowd pleaser), Famous Garlic Noodles (B, Yeah they were good, but nothing I can't make a home in 10 min), and then.. the Keto Garlic Ponzu Filet. Filet was cooked perfectly, meat was excellent. The gorgonzola brulee was a good idea in theory, but flavor again didn't really mix well. And the side of the Asian Ratatouille... was a PILE of soggy drowned vegetables. And they tasted like they were drowned in some sugary teriyaki sauce. Consistently good food here. Even though numerous eateries have open med up near them in the mall , we keep coming back because it's still one of the prettier restaurants in my opinion. The lighting and decor is so beautiful. Serving potions are fair but not overly generous. We usually just order a lot of dishes to try, but we always get to garlic noodles. So for me at least AnQi is a solid option whenever I get hungry/bored of shopping. I have yet to try their noodle bar inwhich they serve their famous noodles and pho and other dishes. Their famous garlic noodle is delicious but surprisingly plain and sauceless. The market salad is delicious and perfect for those of us who don't want to eat anything meat-y. The chicken peking was delicious and the thai basil sauce that was served in was just out of this World. The service can be somewhat slow but that gives you the opportunity to enjoy your meal w/o getting rushed. Considering that the last time I visited here was on Black Friday, they were offering a special menu. Having said that they wouldn't allow noodle bar dishes such as pho being ordered while sitting in the main dining area which is somewhat disappointing. Considering that the turnaround for restaurants in South Coast plaza is high, AnQi being opened as long as they have, demonstrates that they are good at what they do! read more

Me and my family are regulars (parents like it more than us) at Anqi. We like their pho, and a lot of their sides, but a lot of the entrees are just ok (which is tough given their price) Great ambience, and service at this restaurant. They are very attentive. It is an upscale restaurant and pricing may be slightly higher than truly worth given food quality and flavors as below. In terms of the food, I would say that the Vietnamese food itself, such as the cha gio and pho not the most traditional or best flavoring I've ever ever seen in my life, but good for a modernized approach to viet food. Celebrated my parents anniversary here recently and I have to say the staff went above and beyond when it came to making my parents special day even more spectacular. Not a single detail was spared when it came to the service, lighting, presentation, and namely the cuisine. I arranged a prefix menu in advance, which included some of the restaurants iconic dishes like the truffle sashimi, filet mignon potstickers and of course Chef An's famous Crab and Garlic Noodles. Everything was absolutely delicious! From beginning to end, we were treated like royalty and the room was beautifully decorated. When dessert came out, Vivian created a breathtaking table scape of fog which was nothing less than magical. Special thanks to Vivian and her team for making all of the special touches that made the evening that much better. She is truly a rockstar! If you ever plan an event here. We were looking for a nice restaurant to take my son to for his birthday. He is a foodie and knows so many OC restaurants it's hard to find somewhere to surprise him. I found AnQi Bistro on Yelp. The menu was quirky enough but also had things those of us not so adventurous would enjoy. We all loved the food and the cocktails! The lobster and shrimp dumplings were amazing. The sauce was so good I didn't want to leave any in the plate! The bulgogi nachos were delicious made with crispy wontons, cheese sauce, bulgogi, spicy chilis. The filet dumplings were tasty too. Main course 1/2 lobster and An Famous Garlic noodles. The lobster was cooked perfectly and the noodles were garlicky to perfection. The hanger steak, New York and prime rib were fun, served on hot salt stone table side. I tasted all and my favorite was the hanger steak. It was tender and aromas of rosemary garlic and butter was beyond. Add to that a couple of shitake mushrooms, totally delicious. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts and cauliflower. The Brussels were cooked to perfection. Not overly done but crunchy and so tasty. The stir fry veg and puree potatoes were our other sides. The potatoes were decadent, smooth and rich. We thought the stir fry would be more healthy...not so but delicious nonetheless. Then came desert. The beignets were pillowy soft and so yummy. The tableside ice cream was fun and again very good. Presentation and flair made the night so fun. Their cocktails were really good too. I had a pear concoction that was not too sweet and perfectly sour. Also had a drink with a giant bubble and smoke. It was so fun. The waiter must have had an off night. The level of service was not what I expected. We waited a long time for our cocktails (worth the wait) post appetizers the cocktail waitress delivered the drinks saying she didn't want them to sit longer at the bar. During dinner he wasn't very attentive. The final straw was that he gave me the wrong bill. Overall this did not put a damper on the evening as the food was outstanding. Highly recommend. The atmosphere is cute at this restaurant. Good for customers, dates and any celebrations. Customer service is good. Except we ordered a drink from the menu and they said they don't have the ingredients to make it. Given how big this restaurant is, that was disappointing. And on a Saturday too? We've been to AnQi several times, and each time we've left feeling.. hungry. The garlic noodles are always tasty; the most consistent entree we've had. Our other favorite has been the shaken beef, but sometimes our vegetables have been a bit soggy and meat a bit tough. When that dish is made right, it's DELICIOUS. I will say that the portions are quite small, so just be wary of that. Interior of the restaurant is very classy and sophisticated, so we do enjoy that. We will continue to visit when convenient for us as this restaurant is located within a Bloomingdales. read more

We started off our day at Zinque in Newport which is French American and we wanted to change it up with some Asian cuisine, we walked in without reservations and were sat almost immediately on a Sunday night. The food and ambience was great but the service was not good. Our server was an older gentleman, who was very nice but never really came around after the taking our order, we asked for water as soon as we sat down as we had a long day walking around the beach and the south coast plaza, we did not receive water until after my wife got up and walked to the bar to ask for some, which was very frustrating. There's a wide variety of options to choose from & it's great to eat family style if your coming with a big party. We ordered everything from appetizers to entrees. Definitely must try their famous garlic noodles, but the chow fun noodles are good as well. The Asian fusion cuisine lets you have a global taste of dishes inspired by different Asian countries. The also serve mocktails for people that don't drink. The vibe of the restaurant has a night on the town feel. The beautiful floral backdrop towards the front makes a great photo op. The also have a bar to your left when you walk in. Since it's pricey I probably wouldn't regularly come here, but it's a great place to celebrate life's big moments. What happened AnQi? Even the limes were brown and dry. The arugula garnish was also brown. September 16 I had a reservation this evening, and arrived 5-10 minutes before check in. They also didn't give us any steak knives. The $16 shrimp prawn skewers? I am sorry they're baby shrimps and shouldn't be called prawns. sad sad single tiny skewer for $16 is ridiculous. The crab mean was so little for the Dungeness, and from someone who eats Dungeness crab often. I deshell them easily, that was a rip off! The garlic noodles were so bland, nothing like I remembered. Also the dessert came out with the berry sauce all over it. Had to send it back to the kitchen, because sorry either that or send myself to the hospital. When we my friends tried to order a second round a drinks, we thought it would just be easier and faster to order a bottled beer.... but they sold out of everything. I don't think that is their fault, being the ports interfere with many industry supplies. But maybe update that in their menu :) before passing them out. My other gf later had a bug in her sake cup when delivered, and the server said oh sorry we have a lot of fruit flies here.. EW??? A well cleaned place will NOT have that issue. Decided to do a quick stop at Anqi and was greeted by a friendly server, Joel. I wasn't too hungry and just wanted something peckish and a drink so Joel recommended this delicious Asian pear drink along with their tasty tuna tacos, both paired nicely. After that drink, I knew I needed to get a second one to try out and Joel recommended this lychee martini (sorry I don't remember the exact name). He knew his stuff and checked in on a good basis. I got here on Saturday at 6pm and the wait was around 20 minutes for a party of 2. The restaurant had a nice vibe to it and our server was nice and attentive the whole time. The food was decent but nothing special. The portions were on the smaller end. The kimchi fried rice was delicious, but again a really small serving. Drinks were also good. I tried the Moscow mule and really like it. I would come back here especially since the wait isn't that long compared to most places at south coast, but you would probably need more than 1 dish to feel satisfied. read more

Went to this place on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. There are few places in Orange County that I'd go to where I'd feel like I'm in a big city like LA. AnQi Bistro provides a fun atmosphere with great music, ambient lighting, and courteous servers. The food is delectable. However, the portions for the price are a bit disappointing. One can argue you're paying for the atmosphere, but, I had to look up pictures of the menu items to make sure I'm going to get a dish big enough to leave full when I saw servers delivering meals to other tables. I would return to this place with a group of friends for the great ambiance. If you're planning on going for a place to grab some drinks and hang with friends but aren't too focused on eating to be full, this might be the perfect place! Average taste but $$. You can reserve table ahead online. Get super busy over weekends and ask you to place all the order ahead (entrees w appetizer) so kitchen can prep in time. We tried shrimp satay (avg taste but 4 giant shrimp pieces), leek chive dumplings (good and comes w great dipping sauce but only 3 pieces for $$), a yuzu beverage that had buddha in the title (very avg), hunan rice (basically boiled and oiled rice w garlic), and general tsao's veg (decent fried veg), coconut dessert. Out of all the desert portions were humongous compared to the rest of the dishes. Even mains were measly. Quality felt good but doesn't justify the $. This place never disappoints. I go there with the family, colleagues and customers. The service is outstanding and food is spectacular. Seem to always start with amazing tuna tacos, shrimp & lobster dumplings, filet pot stickers. Sometimes bulgogi nachos, which are very tasty. We always order family style, famous garlic noodles with chicken satay, Shaken beef, orange peel chicken and butter fish. We Also get the kung Pao egg plant. Which is delicious.
