Food was good. I ordered the falafels wrap meal, and it was nicely prepared. The only suggestion would be for the Tziki sauce, if it could be more thicker and w/ more yogurt. It had too much liquid. Service was good as well. Very fast, and attentive. Ambiance is nice. Small and cozy, and great view of 9th and 42nd St. I highly recommend it if you're in the area and need a good, quick affordable meal. read more

I was flabbergasted you could find shawarma/gyro/doner in the city for less than $15 nowadays and for the size bigger than my face! AND delicious, real meat. The secret lies in the west side. Got hefty doner wraps with lamb and mixed (lamb+chicken). The flavors of the meat could be tasted so distinctly. The portions...substantial. Even my boyfriend was full after this meal (granted he ate an extra 1/6 of my portion)...a rarity. When the cook saw that we were going to sit down to eat instead of take out, he cut the wraps in half (didn't have to ask), set us trays, and gave us both fries, for free! Pleasantly surprised. My only gripe is that the sauces are very watery, especially the yogurt, and could be more substantial. Amazing value. Will definitely come again. read more

Istanbul Bay - Wraps: lamb, mixed (lamb+chicken) - Mediterranean Near Me - New York, New York

Great place for a quick gyro. I highly recommend the Turkish bread. Huge portion, could be divided in two. I overheard another customer asking for his to be sliced in half. This place is really set up as a "to go" joint, we ate in but there are very few seats. The hummus was also yummy, but make sure to ask for extra pita. It only came with one. read more

I waltzed into This Turkish delight on a non eventful evening craving a good ole Doner wrap. With humble expectations , I ordered it and they actually didn't ask me what wanted on it ( yet I mentioned the yogurt and hot sauce please). Quick and easy the slabs of lamb were sliced off and added to my quite larger than expected wrap with all the fixings . I raced home in anticipation as I finally unwrapped my promising dinner . I was happy and delighted! Hot , fresh, tasty and a generous amount of meat as well! So happy I found The Bay as I officially have a Doner "Go to!" read more

The people working at Istanbul Bay know how to handle busy nights with grace. No other place delivers better care. The food matches the service quality. Fresh ingredients make quality food at fair prices. This spot is on my return list. read more

Amazing food for the price, cannot go wrong or leave hungry. Portions are generous. Small shop front, no frills but gets the job gone. Very quick. Will be coming back. read more

Wow, food is beyond flavorful and truly authentic. Everything tasted so fresh. I had the platter with lamb and rice. I even got to try babaganush for the first time. My gf who had it tons of times elsewhere said this was one of the better ones she's had. She said it definitely tasted authentic. Very friendly staff. As for seating, it's very limited as it's more of a take out spot. However, my gfs and I were able to grab the seats and enjoy our food right on the spot. We did come off peak hours though, so please keep that in mind. I will be back when I make another trip to NY. read more

Fantastic place, super clean facilities and nice friendly staff. Quick service, courteous and caring folks operate Istanbul Bay. We ordered a mixed doner wrap for each of us and fries, it was SO much food. One wrap totally could have been two meals for me but I wasn't about to be weak so I tore through the entire thing in one sitting bc I'm competitive with my athletic trainer SO lol The meat is tender, hot, juicy, and flavorful. Very generous portion of protein in that packed wrap. The veggies were fresh and crisp and I loved the feta cheese. I added probably a whole pint of their yogurt/dill/mint sauce, it was so addicting. And of course the fries were arguably some of the best fries I've ever had at a quick place like this. So perfectly thin and crisp and perfectly salty. They've also got a few options for traditional turkish beverages, my partner got the Ayran since it's similar to a traditional drink he has back home but I opted for some good old coca cola. This place really hit the spot. Wish they got some more business, come out and support them folks! read more

Delish falafel wrap alert! Stopped in here on a whim as it was pouring rain and I wanted something how I could take back to my room. The falafels wee small but super dense & after about half way through, I was thinking to myself whoa I'm full..... but somehow I managed to polish off the whole thing. Next time, I'll make sure to order a side of their spicy sauce to see what that's like but the flavor was delish as it was - you can't go wrong with the falafel Freshly made to order, staff was super friendly. Thank you for the perfect, quick & easy takeaway on a cold, rainy day read more

Speedy service with fresh ingredients made to order. Was not aware of the meal deal (fries + soda for 3.99$), I ordered each separately. The cashier did not let me know the discount option... Also, the fries were not crispy at all. It was almost like the fries were not fully done when sold. Further, the meat has no seasoning. I had to dump hot sauce and salt on it. Overall I think halal guy is better! read more

I ordered a chicken gyro and French fries. While it was clearly fresh and made-to-order, it seemed like it really lacked any kind of seasoning. The chicken was just kind of bland. Not horrible and certainly edible, but overall that was the one critique me and the other person I was dining with had. The fries were really good and had a great amount - shoe string type. read more

If you were in DE at any point, you know how amazing and plentiful döners are. Me and bestie had to check it out. It reminded us of after club days in the Cobblestone streets of Heidelberg. When they showed me their wraps are traditional Turkish (yufka), I decided then to take one wrap to go as I left today. I'm here on this train waiting to get home to devour it. For those unfamiliar with the the spike it's on, they do shave it and cook it to the appropriate temp, so you are never eating undercooked meat. The veggie I got with yesterday's wrap was so fresh, but today. Nothing but meat and sauce. It's gonna be magical! Please don't hesitate, come try it. You won't regret it. read more

I think this place is criminally underrated: they load you up with one of the best lamb I've ever had (tastes and feels like brisket tbh). Great volume, great price point, and well it's nowhere as good as the Turkish food I had in Germany years ago but it's still very solid and will satisfy you. Their chicken is inconsistent, sometimes it's a hit and the juiciest softest chicken, sometimes it's a little firm and dry. read more

Great stuff! Good and fast service. If you're in the mood for some Turkish food, you can't go wrong with this place. You get a pretty generous portion for what you pay. We ordered the gyro and also falafel platter. Both were excellent. The rice is on point and the salad is fresh. My only wish was if you get fries, they just pile the meat on top of them, and this leads to some soggy fries. I think they should just have them on the side if possible. I'll be back. read more

Istanbul Bay is a casual Turkish & Mediterranean spot at the corner of 42nd and 9th. It is a new and welcomed addition to the neighborhood and an delicious and affordable meal. The restaurant is very small - standing room only with a couple of bar stools. The menu offers an array of salads, apps, salad, rice plates and sandwiches and wraps. The guys behind the counter are friendly and passionate about their food. I ordered the doner (lamb gyro plate), mix doner (lamb+chicken gyro plate), and a side of falafel (not on the menu). The plates come with bread, rice, and salad. They kindly threw in a container of what I think is keskul (milk pudding with almonds + pistachio) for me to try. The plates were generously portioned. I think we got more meat than we did rice! Definitely had to split it into 2 meals. The thin slices of meat were moist, tasty and flavorful. Salt level was balanced. Salad was refreshing, though a bit heavy on the parsley for my taste. I could do without the bread. Istanbul Bay's falafel is solid - crispy on the outside, soft and flavor-packed on the inside. They are on the larger size too. A side order of these guys isn't on the menu, but you can just ask. The keskul was the perfect dessert. Great smooth texture, delicate milk flavor and lightly sweetened. It's not listed on their menu but you can grab it from the drink case. I'm excited that Istanbul Bay has opened up, especially when many businesses here have closed during the pandemic. I look forward to many future meals from here. read more

Istanbul Bay, a Mediterrean-Turkish restaurant recently opened on the corner of 9th Avenue and 42nd St. i stopped there recently for dinner. It is a small space with limited seating inside and some tables outside since the weather is getting warmer. They have an extensive menu-gyros, salads, drinks, desserts etc. I ordered a lamb gyro which arrived promptly. it was extremely large and I had difficulty finishing it [as a matter of fact i had the remainder for lunch the following day] My recommendation is to go there hungry if you want to finish the entire meal. I would recommend and return. read more

Ordered a mix gyro plate with a scoop of hummus and falafel and some cheese rolls for pickup. They forgot my cheese rolls, but the main problem was that the food was bland. The rice was soggy and flavorless, which like ruins the entire meal. All the meat had no flavor. The falafel and the salad was good, and the side sauces were actually amazing, but come in really tiny cups, so not enough for the plate. The hummus had no flavor. I also ordered some bread. That was great. They included a pita bread into my order, but real disappointed that I missed out on those cheese rolls. I did have some leftovers the next day, and when I reheated it, the flavors came out of the meat or I was hungry. I think it might be a heating issue, but that hummus and rice left me disappointed. Maybe you're better off getting just the sandwich. read more

Not a great option if you're anywhere near a street cart (ie all of NYC). Their large plate is grossly overpriced at 17 dollars. The size is maybe 10% bigger than a platter from any street vendor. I wouldn't mind paying the price, but the actual quality and taste is not great. Their plate comes with a small amount of meat. Meat quality was very good, I had the lamb. However the rice, which is more than 80% of the dish, was just plain white rice. No flavors, no spices, nothing. It ass dry and bland and does an extreme disservice to the good meat. Honestly dokt understand how they justify the price becusse the rice is dirt cheap and has nothing at all done to it. To top it off they only give a small contianer of their yogurt. Extra is 50 cents! You are way better off getting a wrap, or better yet just going to a street cart. Better flavor, better sauce, and way more food for the price. Thankfully there is one right down the street. read more

Ordered for delivery and I'm impressed! I'm usually really hesitant ordering from new places from past disappointments but I'm so glad I did. The Chicken Gyro Sandwich was amazing. Full of flavor and HUGE. I can literally eat it for 2 meals and still have leftovers. Mix Gyro Dish with rice was just as good. Meats were so tender with explosive flavors. HUGE portions that can well over feed 2 grown men. I also ordered Hummus and their Homemade Bread. They were super fresh and just PERFECT as a side dish. Give them a chance - let's keep this joint alive! read more

I had a kebab with chicken, it was really good! The Turkish bread was perfect and there were plenty of vegetables and sauces. I did not expect this to be as life changing as it was. From the outside this unassuming joint can be easily mistaken as just another halal place. Who ever would think this was THE ultimate halal food hub. Omg I was in euphoria. I've never had such a delectable, flavorful and savory lamb gyro/yufkas before ("lamb wrap" on the menu). I've had countless lamb dishes and never had one come even close to what I had just experienced. The owner was very warm and hospitable and you can see the flow of regular customers coming in and out. I would usually post some food pix but that lamb was devoured so fast I had completely forgotten to take photos. read more

This place is awesome! We love the food so much, they give yummy hummus for the main dishes and the prices is definitely (relatively) more affordable than the same cuisine in the area! Honestly we love the food ( mixed donner sandwich and their falafel is our favorite to go!!! Omg the falafel is so crunchy and so flavorful!! And there are always way more meats that I've expected in my sandwich!! My partner is vegetarian and he always eats the falafel dish there now haha ). The owner is always soooo friendlly for a chat and a quick catch up in life, that's what touches my heart after this past year with pandemic, truly this is what neighborhood business should be! We truly enjoy their food and business ( they are always our default cozy dinner option!) and we are super grateful to find them open around the corner for us! read more

Pretty solid Turkish place. Only tried them once so far, but it was good. Portion sizes are pretty big. The meat was tasty - I tried a mixed doner sandwich and both meats were juicy and good. The bread wasn't all that great, it was just ok. The accompanying salad was better than I expected. Overall, this is not a bad choice at all for some Turkish on the run. read more

Had chicken plate. Excellent flavor and tender. Salad was simple and dressing was exceptional. Easily worth more than five stars.

Very impressed. As a long time fan of Turco around the corner and somewhat of a city halal snob, I'm not impressed often but damn these guys have a great product here. Esp the lamb. The lamb is very juicy and it has a great flavor profile. Plus portions are always huge. For all first timers I'd recommend get a combo sandwich with the garlic sauce and the house tomato sauce. Food was bland. Also they charged me a fee for using credit card in the store even though I ordered over $20 worth of food, and they didn't even tell me beforehand.
