I'm Chinese and from the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California so I know Chinese food and this place did it right. I made a reservation for 3 at 8:30 pm on a Friday night and it was definitely necessary. The wait for walk-ins was pretty extensive. The restaurant itself is super dark and pretty loud but that didn't matter to me once I started eating the food. To share, we ordered the dan dan noodles ($14.00), scallion pancake ($12.00), sichuan chili fried chicken ($28.00), crab tofu ($28.00), and eggplant with garlic sauce ($18.00). Everything was amazing. I would order everything we got again. The crab tofu was especially delicious. All the dishes were cooked perfectly and had so much flavor. I would definitely come back the next time I visit Brooklyn.

Delicious upscale Chinese food in Williamsburg! The place is beautifully decorated and it was quite busy when we went. We got three dishes and all of them were delicious: - Crab tofu: highlight! I highly recommend getting if you like crab, tofu, and salted egg yolks. The taste profile surprised me. The salted egg yolk gave a deep intense flavor to the dish. - Chili chicken: crunchy and flavorful, love how the batter wasn't too thick and the pepper was not too overpowering. - Sauteed green beans: deliciously cooked, the beans had good flavors and it paired very well with the chicken. Overall, I do think this place is worth the hype. It is definitely on the expensive side though. I would recommend the crab tofu!

The food is quite good here. Not sure it was worth the hour trek from where we live but a fantastic place for Chinese food if you live in the area. We loved the pig ears and crab tofu the best. The string beans and short ribs with chestnut were also pretty good. We were able to make a last minute reservation for 4pm on a Friday but didn't need it as it was almost completely empty.

Solid sichuan food in williamsburg! Met up with some friends for lunch and got our usual assortment of mapo tofu, dandan noodles and green beans and they were all super solid 9/10 good enough to rival spicy moon I liked that the waiters didn't hover over us and let us enjoy our meal in peace as someone who does not prefer to be asked how my food is mid bite Also a moment for the decor, I loveddd this space, it was huge and airy and gorgeous with lots of natural light and tastefully placed plants. Definitely a trendy williamsburg spot but the food does not disappoint

Chestnut Short Ribs Fish stew with fresh green peppercorn

We ordered the short ribs, numbing rib eye cubes, crab fried rice, green peppercorn fish stew, sautéed pea shoots, and pig ears appetizer. My favorite was the short ribs. It was fall off the bone tender and very flavorful. The fish stew was good if you enjoy numbing Szechuan peppercorn. I personally enjoyed the mushrooms in the numbing cube dish more than the rib eye because the mushroom had more flavor. The crab fried rice was mediocre and didn't really have a wok taste. The drinks were good! Overall I would come back if you're looking for good Chinese food in Williamsburg. It does get pretty crowded so I would recommend coming early or making a reservation.

I went for Galentines Day with my girlies and it was the PERFECT vibe. Low lighting, not super loud so it was a perfect "sex and the city" moment for us 4 to YAP the whole time. I really liked the apps here, but especially the cucumber salad. We also got vegetable dumplings that were pretty good and scallion pancakes (my personal favorite). I then ordered Kung pow chicken and got a side of rice. Overall meal was okay. TBH I was more into the apps. Entre was alright. No, the drinks are pretty expensive, but they do make them elaborately. I had gotten the Midterm which is vermouth, but also kind of had an amaretto-y taste to it. It's a strong flavor profile. My friend, however, got Kiku 101 and that SLAPPED. Perfect amount of sweetness without it going overboard. Overall, great spot. The place was a tad pricey, but hey that's Williamsburg. I forgot to take a picture of this, but I really appreciated how the menu let you know how spicy a dish was or how sweet or bitter a drink was.

LOVED the crab tofu, such a good texture and flavor. The double-cooked pork was amazing, everything I wanted in that dish. Antidote is upscale and elegant, elevating Sichuan cuisine. The staff were all wonderful.

So glad i finally got to try this place. Sichuan chili fried chicken: 4/5 The size and fry of it reminds popcorn chicken which I love. It's more light in flavor than I hoped, especially compared to the mapo tofu. Preferred the size of chicken pieces here over the one at Mountain House. Mapo tofu: 5/5 Delicious! Decently spicy and numbing. More so than Mountain House but equally good. Golden fish fillet: 4/5 Loved the flavor but it was mostly breading not fish. Would try the salted egg crab tofu version instead next time.

I came here recently with a friend for dinner. I'd had the Dongpo pork before and, once again, it was wonderful. We also tried a few other dishes: - bok choy: this was fairly plain- I believe it was steamed with garlic- but it was a good vegetable dish to balance out the richness of the pork - dandan noodles: these were good, but not as spicy as we were anticipating Everything came to our table extremely fast- probably within 5-10 minutes of ordering. However, the service was good and we weren't rushed out of the restaurant.

Walked in on a Friday at 5:45 and got lucky with a table for 2! My boyfriend and I shared: + Spicy cabbage + Garlic eggplant + Chicken soup dumplings + crab tofu + Egg yolk lava buns Standouts were the cabbage, eggplant and dumplings. Also loved the lava buns - reminded me of the salted egg yolk lava cake at the Kitsby. Will definitely be back!!

Re-review! I came here previously and was underwhelmed but I came back again and I understand the hype! Previous mistake was not ordering Sichuan dishes, which is an obvious mistake on my end when going to a Sichuan restaurant. I primarily ordered Sichuan style dishes, and they were amazing. Ordered - dan Dan noodles. A different type of noodle than traditional Dan Dan noodles, but the flavor was there. Strong and aromatic chili oil flavor coated the noodles nicely - lechan chicken. Cold appetizer dish with chicken soaked with chili oil. Super flavorful and spicy! - bean paste fish. Not sure the exact name of this, but wow this is amazing. A whole fish drowned in their chili sauce. I was ready to drink the sauce. Also hard to find at most restaurants so this was a nice surprise. Will come back to try more of their Sichuan dishes

Oh, I'm obsessed with Antidote --it's no wonder everyone raves about this spot. They do get busy, so be sure to make reservations ahead of time. The restaurant is dark and moody with the aroma of Szechuan throughout. For drinks, my friend and I started off with the Unlocking Mandarin ($19) and Storm Cloud ($19). The fact that the mandarin came in a tea cup and cloud came in an orbit spinning cup already impressed us. The aesthetics of Antidote is well curated and detailed. Everything from their decor, drinks, and even the menu design. But the real star of the show is the food here. Everything looks so good that it was really hard to narrow down our picks, which means I'm already anticipating to return. Between the two of us, we ordered the Crab Tofu ($26), Sichuan Chili Fried Chicken ($26), and Fish Blossom ($34). Everything was fantastically cooked and left us wanting more. The crab tofu was a really unique dish and an absolute must order everytime. The salted egg sauce had me eating more rice than I normally would because it was so good. I loved the presentation of the fish blossom, which was still crispy even with the sweet and sour sauce. The chili chicken is a classic and definitely spicy, but everything was balanced well with rice. I don't think you can go wrong with any item on the menu. I need to go back already!

One of my favorite NYC meals - the crab salted egg yolk tofu lives in my head rent free. Every spoonful is the perfect bite over a bed of warm rice. My friends and I made a reservation for 3 on a Saturday at 12pm and the restaurant filled up quickly after we were seated. The caramel glaze eggplant was addictive! The smokiness of the tea smoked duck was full of umami, but I would probably order a different dish next time. Antidote's ambiance is cozy with natural elements like plants hanging from the ceiling and a brick wall bar. Servers were attentive and made sure our water cups were full. Highly recommend.

(To be clear, this is a glowing review. I would give it 6 stars if I could) So here's the breakdown of what we got: - cucumber salad - green onion pancake - slice pork with garlic sauce - eggplants with garlic sauce - wonton in chili sauce - dan dan noodle - shredded beef with bamboo shoot - tea smoked duck - fish blossom - spicy cumin lamb - egg lava buns - the antidote (cocktail) If you're contemplating coming here, stop. Just come. you won't regret it, I promise. For context, there was 4 of us total, and we finished everything. All 11 dishes. Yes, it was that good. Refer to the below testimonials: - "This is the best Chinese restaurant I've been to. I would bring all my out of town friends here" - "This is my new favorite. I'm never going back to *insert previous favorite*" - "This is markedly better than *insert our previous fave chinese place*" (literally after the first bite) - "The lamb is so tender. wow!" - "This green onion pancake is like a croissant. Wow, probably one of my favorite dim sum places in BK! The mapo tofu and garlic eggplant were simply delicious and very flavorful. However, the dumplings take the cake. The pan fried dumplings were so yummy and the exact texture one would hope for. The flavor of the spicy soup dumplings was amazing, and honestly some of the best dumplings I have had. The pork and crab soup dumplings were also too good. However, one thing I would say is that the paper on the bottom of the dumpling container adhered very tightly to the soup dumplings so all of them tore before we could place them on our spoons. We were unable to drink any of the soup from the dumplings. Still delicious though. Also, the servers were very nice-we showed up a half hour before our reservation because we were hungry and they were able to seat us right away! read more

I promised 6 people... was seated early... only one other one showed up. Still the staff was a kind as could be. And the food... Chinese, on the spicy side and super exotic. Pigs Ears, Beef Tripe, Crab Tofu... the list goes on. Everything was great. The service was great. The evening, although there were only two instead of six of us... was also great. Fusion Chinese. Good flavor on the Chinese dishes. Yet the cocktails are the shining stars here. Good blend of Japanesque plant, modern decor with high ceiling and spacious table arrangements greatly enhance the ambience and moods. Great spot we stumbled upon in Brooklyn! Very authentic Chinese food but with a very modern dining experience. Typical authentic Chinese restaurants have kind of drab decor, but the ambience is as amazing and very modern. Their drinks are great -- I got the icy hot which is kind of a spicy margarita and it was really good. We ordered the spicy cumin lamb, the fried fish filet, dongpu pork (pork belly with bok choy), and the green beans. Everything was incredible. The pork belly had a great combination of meat and fat -- it was soft and had a really great flavor. The cumin lamb was just right -- not too spicy, not too cumin-y, not too lamb-y. Hit just right. Green beans were great as was the fried fish. Really great find and can't wait to come back. read more

We had the ribs (tough), the pork & crab dumplings as well as the pork dumpling (mild flavor), and the fried rice with shredded duck which tasted burnt. I definitely wouldn't come here again to eat, but it's a cool place to meet for a cocktail. read more

Ordered the sesame noodles and kungpao chicken. Food was delicious. Asked for less spicy kungpao and was made to order at perfect spice level. Lots of chicken. Had enough for the next day. Doesn't come with rice so make sure to order. A little pricey for delivery but worth it - fresh, tasty and fast. And they didn't skimp on chicken. read more

Went here during their first week and my group and I did family style. I think I will need to return for a fuller assessment. From my first experience, it was somewhere between a 3 and 4. Overall, it was an average experience but the memorable takeaway was the spicy cumin lamb. I also felt disappointed that they had run out of whole fish that night so it's hard to judge a Chinese place without having tried a whole dish. I'd recommend this for a casual dinner especially with friends but I wouldn't come here for a special occasion. read more

Went for lunch, and it wasn't as good as dinner. Firstly, the lunch menu, which is still advertised on the website, when we got there they say that's take out only. Second, maybe because it's much less busy in the afternoon, the rice wasn't as good, kinda dried out. The mapo tofu is still awesome tho. read more

"Dish after dish--it just keeps getting better and better." And that statement above was the general consensus from my entire table when we dined at Antidote. To be honest, I was wary when my friends invited me to try this new restaurant. They said it was Szechuan which meant I probably wasn't going to enjoy any of my food after the initial bite had burned my taste buds to oblivion, and that the ambiance may be meh with greasy food covered in layers of chili oil and poor quality ingredients. But boy was I proven wrong throughout the entire night and I'm so glad for that! Truly every dish was fantastic. We had the garlic cucumbers and eight spice tofu as appetizers. The tofu was phenomenal. I never knew a cube of soy could pack so much joyful flavor in one compact little bite! For our mains, we had the dongpo pork, salted egg yolk fish fillet, salted egg yolk tofu, lava buns, xiao long bao, duck fried rice, and shrimp fried rice. I'm not even a fan of lava buns and I could nary find a complaint to utter when I bit into it. The dongpo pork and salted egg yolk dishes were so so (SOOOOO) good that we argued about who would get to take home the leftovers. And their duck fried rice had the most delectably smoky taste to it--truly blown away. I can't remember if they list desserts on their menu, but they had a milk tea pudding and a pumpkin pudding. We tried their milk tea pudding and it was fantastic! We didn't try any cocktails, but their cocktail bar looked really lovely lined with mason jars of dried oranges and limes ready to serve as garnishes to the perfect martini. The ambiance of the entire space was also amazing, with mood lighting and tables that didn't make you feel like they were trying to pack in as many people as possible. And there was a beautiful skylight in the middle of the room overlooking their largest table. I loved this place so much, I came back a second time in the same week with a new group of friends, and then ordered take out for a night in a few days after! read more

A hidden gem in the heart of Willamsburg. From the ambiance to the food, perfection all around. I don't even have a picture of the food because it was eaten immediately and so delicious. We found Antidote on Instagram and decided to come for dinner on a Friday night. We started with dim sum and then ordered the duck & side of bok choy for an entree. It was amazing, and the cocktail menu was phenomenal!!! I couldn't decide what to get because everything looked amazing. The service was great too. Such a unique experience. I've heard of this place and I had to see it myself. As soon as I walked in with my girlfriend we felt a peaceful energy, the music and exotic plants definitely gave it away. Our server Rey, guided us through the menu and his recommendations were right on. Being a bartender myself I have to say their drinks are heavenly. Came here for my friends birthday. We were a group of 6. They had great cocktails. The food was fantastic, some more spicy than expected like the Dan Dan noodles. I had dinned at Antidote over LNY this year, and it was a great experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality by the owner. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with red lanterns and other LNY decorations, which added to the festive ambiance. The menu was extensive and featured an extensive variety of Szechuan dishes. We had both a vegan and gluten-free guest in our party and the staff did a great job of notifying us which dishes could be accommodated for them. We started with a selection of appetizers including bok choy, wood ear mushroom salad, and cucumber salad, which were beautifully presented and tasted even better than they looked. The wood ear mushroom salad was a must-have. For our main course, we ordered a variety of dishes, including golden fish filet, green peppercorn fish stew, and feihong spicy prawn. Each dish was expertly prepared and bursting with flavor, with the perfect balance of spices and seasonings. The favorites were the spicy prawn and the peppercorn fish stew (recommended only for the spice lovers as the green peppercorns are spicy!). To top it all off, we ordered a selection of desserts, including a egg lava buns and the rice ball with red bean soup, which is a sweet glutinous rice cake. The desserts were a perfect ending to a perfect meal. The service was exceptional, with friendly and knowledgeable staff who helped us navigate the extensive menu and made recommendations based on our preferences. Went for dinner tonight, enticed by the glowing reviews on Yelp. However, my dining experience left much to be desired. The high prices were hard to justify, given the underwhelming quality of the food and service. From the moment we entered, it was evident that we were not going to have the same experience as the neighboring table, which seemed to be receiving exceptional attention from the owner or manager. Unfortunately, no one bothered to check on our table even once during the entire meal. The fried chili chicken was a major disappointment. It had been deep-fried to such an extent that the chicken had turned into puffs, rendering it inedible. The excessive fried batter made it difficult to even recognize the chicken pieces. It was an unfortunate waste of what could have been a delightful dish. The twice-cooked pork was equally disappointing. It was drowning in fats, making it unappetizing and heavy on the stomach. This lack of attention to detail and taste was disheartening, considering we had high hopes for an authentic Szechuan culinary experience. Some of the best soup dumplings I've ever had, and the cold noodles along with the spicy cumin lamb both came with some nice back of the throat heat. Highly recommend the cucumber salad to cool it all down. The cucumbers have a refreshing sesame undertone. For how ridiculously good the food is, the restaurant is very well priced. i think this is my favorite restaurant in the city!! the ambience is beautiful - it's not too dark, but still cozy and decorated beautifully with plants. the food is some of the best i've had - the dan dan noodles (can be made vegetarian) are unreal and same with the kung pao tofu. the cocktails are so unique and they craft them to exactly your liking (you can choose how strong, sweet, and earthy you want your drink). i would say the cucumber salad here is better than din tai fung. food doesn't come out super quickly but is well worth the wait. read more
