    Rellenito - before

So after seeing a post about them on the Yelp Miami weekly newsletter, the pictures of the Rellenitos caught my eye & taste buds. I mean, I love black beans and sweet plantains so together they must be perfect right? Well, after some "field research" I can confirm that they are! Even though my initial impression of them as a dessert was technically incorrect (they're actually an appetizer) I would say they can be eaten for either course. I mean, how else would you enjoy a "pastry" of the aforementioned sweet plantains and savory black beans? As far as the rest of my meal, I enjoyed another side of their black bean soup, more than a couple very large and perfectly crispy tostones (fried green plantains) and a large juicy slab of carne asada. It had a nice smokey flavor, though it was a little thicker than Argentinian churrasco. Of course, I had flan. (I wanted to try their pio quinto dessert, but they had run out. My waitress was really attentive and accurately recommended the flan as a tasty alternate.) With its hints of baked in sugar, it brought happiness to my taste buds. Of course I washed it down with a nicely potent cortadito...two, in fact! Located on Flagler Street, they have a private parking lot and both inside and outside dining. As mentioned with my flan, their staff was pleasant and very knowledgeable.

I can't believe after living in Miami nearly my entire life, I have never had Guatemalan food. Shame on me! Recently I was working on a project highlighting unknown latin foods. I popped in because I heard rellenitos were a delicious food I should try and my friend who told me was not wrong. Rellenitos are a delicious fried food - a "dough" made of fried sweet mashed plantains filled with mashed black beans. Yes, it sounds weird but it was SO GOOD! But who would stop at one item? Surely not me. I ordered a chicken a la plancha with rice and red beans. Make sure that you also ask for picante sauce. When they asked if I wanted it, of course I said yes. It kind of reminded me of the picante that comes with fritanga which is one of my favorite. This restaurant may look unassuming from Flagler street, but the service was friendly, food was super affordable and also very tasty. Next time I try I will be getting some pupusas as these reviews say that they're very tasty here.

The food was okay, I was expecting more. If you need your ceviche fix this restaurant can do. Location feels like the restaurant has been here for many many years. The service was okay although the waitress forgot to give us Napkins.

The food is good. There is a store attached to the restaurant so if you want to buy this from Guatemala, then you came to the right place.

My favorite place ever! Granted I'm Guatemalan but I just absolutely love this place. The food is always incredible and made with love! No complaints ever!

While I have relatives in Guatemala, I will honestly say that I do not know much about Guatemalan food at all. However, I am always up for exploring, so when a friend's girlfriend says she has cravings for this place here we went. The set up of the restaurant is a little weird, you walk in and there is a long counter set up very close to the door. The dining room is on the right side. We first ordered some tostones to munch on. They are freshly made and piping hot, light and crunchy and excellent with a dash of salt. From what my friends told me, they do have a lot of generic S American food that are not necessarily Guatemalan. I decide to order from the menu section "Traditional Dishes". I got the Costillas de Puerco Adobados, pickled pork ribs. The meat doesn't taste "pickled", it probably is marinated for a bit, so the flavor is good, but not very tender. My friends ordered grilled beef steak which they seem to enjoy. The pork chop though, is super tough. I later learned from my Guatemalan cousin that this is how they are made, back home. Tough like a flip flop. Because they need to kill any worms or parasites in the pork. So, take my advice, don't order this.

The food is always amazing and cooked good. The services are good and quick and the location is nice with enough seating.

Coworker liked the skirt steak on his first visit but I opted for the house special which consists of carne asada, eggs, tortilla and cream but I got gallo pinto instead, order of sweet plantains and fried cheese, all fritanga style even though it's a Guatemalan joint. My issue was the carne asada was undercooked when I asked for medium well and they had to take it back twice, that liked it for me. The rest was ok not the worst not the best and it ended up being a $30 lunch with a soda plus the tip and I wasn't completely happy. The service is actually good which is why I'm giving it 4 stars but I know a handful of joints like this one where they cook better, the food is cheaper and the service is just as good or better. I guess perhaps I should stick to pupusas or a more traditional Guatemalan dish but this is what I wanted at the time.

We started with the bone marrow appetizer, and it was truly outstanding -- incredibly balanced, rich without being overwhelming, and so good we couldn't stop talking about it. We ordered the steak and eggs. The crunchy brioche, earthy mushroom purée, and beautifully sliced steak came together perfectly, and the saltiness of the caviar tied everything together in a really thoughtful way. The picanha was another standout! incredibly tender and full of flavor. We paired it with the broccolini and wagyu fat potatoes, both of which were absolutely delicious. To finish, we shared the ube cheesecake empanada. We were a bit hesitant at first, but it turned out to be the perfect ending to an already fantastic meal. The cocktails throughout the night were also excellent. We enjoyed the restaurant so much that we brought friends back later the same week. That visit was just as impressive -- we ordered the tomahawk steak, garden salad, bone marrow (again!), steak and eggs, truffle fries, broccolini, carrots, and tried all of the desserts. Once again, everything was delicious across the board. The only area for improvement would be the service. Everyone was kind and attentive, but at times too quick to clear plates and not proactive enough with the next course. At a restaurant of this caliber, I'd expect the dessert menu to be offered immediately after plates are cleared, rather than needing to track down a server. Overall, the food is exceptional, and we'll absolutely be back.
